Spam Fried Rice
A quick and easy dish that can be made with any meat or veggies that you have on hand. It’s the perfect clean-out-the-fridge meal!
I love to cook Asian-inspired dishes so a rice cooker is much needed in our household. But for the last two years, we’ve actually been without a rice cooker and it’s been driving me crazy. I just didn’t have the time to shop around for a rice cooker so for the time being, we resorted to cooking basmati rice on the stovetop, but it just wasn’t the same as using a rice cooker. That’s why I was incredibly thrilled when Zojirushi asked me to review their Micom Rice Cooker & Warmer NL-AAC10/18.
The minute I received the Micon, I was in heaven. With 7 different settings (white/sushi, mixed, porridge, sweet, brown, steam and quick cooking), a steaming basket, and a “keep warm” function, it’s no surprise as to how the micon cooks such perfectly fluffy and tender rice every time. Plus, the cute melody that the rice cooker plays each time the rice is ready always puts a huge smile on my face.
So with a full pot of perfectly cooked white rice, I couldn’t help but make some fried rice. I’ve made pancetta fried rice and quinoa fried rice so I went a different route using Spam. I know that some people have HUGE aversions to canned meat but Spam was a major staple in our household growing up and it was such a delight when my mom would break open a can of Spam. Plus, with a drizzle of Sriracha, this Spam fried rice quickly became a childhood favorite!
Spam Fried Rice
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 6 ounces Spam, diced
- ½ cup frozen corn
- ½ cup frozen peas
- ½ cup frozen diced carrots
- 3 cups cooked rice
- 1 ½ tablespoons soy sauce
- ½ tablespoon fish sauce
- ¼ teaspoon sesame oil
- ¼ teaspoon white pepper
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Sriracha, for serving
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet over low heat. Add eggs and cook until cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per side, flipping only once. Let cool before dicing into small pieces.
- Heat remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in the skillet over medium high heat. Add garlic and Spam, and cook, stirring often, until light golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add corn, peas and carrots. Cook, stirring constantly, until vegetables are tender, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add rice and gently toss to combine.
- Add soy sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil and white pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until heated through, about 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in green onions and eggs.
- Serve immediately, drizzled with Sriracha, if desired.

Super easy and super delicious recipe. 10/10 will make again. We used jalapeno spam and added a touch of hoisin for a little sweetness. Thanks for the recipe!
Yum! I had a sudden craving for Spam fried rice which, I’ll admit, my family thought I was pretty bonkers for wanting… until they tried it. My husband immediately asked me to put it on a recipe card and put it in the box. High praise from him! We did modify the recipe but not dramatically. I had a 12 oz can of Spam and no real use for the remaining half can so I threw it all in (plus we have a kid who refuses to eat eggs so we wanted a little extra protein for our picky eater to hold her over a bit longer). We also don’t normally keep frozen veggies around so I used larger quantities of chopped fresh carrot and chopped fresh snap peas – can’t wait for sweet corn season to toss in some fresh corn kernels. Other than that, made as written. It was really excellent. We thought we’d try a bit of chopped pineapple in our next batch for fun.
As with all stir fried dishes – folks really need to have all the ingredients prepped to go before they start because once things get going, there’s not a lot of time to spare with tinkering. As long as folks do that, they will have smooth sailing!
It was hot diggity damn delicious! I used Kikkoman Umami soy sauce that I bought at Sun Foods in Brooklyn Center, MN. I’ve found that a better soy sauce makes a better recipe. I added green beans, hot red peppers and celery. It was a little too hot for me, so next time I will add just a tablespoon of the peppers, they were homegrown and I did not know their strength! An exceptioal recipe, many thanks!
Finally made this and it totally tastes like my Moms. I knew there was one secret ingredient she kept from us and I found it here, fish sauce!
Fast, fresh and so good.Â
Thank you.Â
Quick easy dinner that turned out delicious!
Can this be made ahead of time? What would be the best method to reheat and/or keep warm? I’m going to a luau theme party and this looks like a great recipe!
This recipe lives up its name! I was hesitant to use the Fish Sauce, but it was a needed ingredient. Will be making this again using Shrimp and Chicken. Excellent recipe!
Simple, perfect recipe. The only thing I change is I add the garlic after the spam begins to brown to prevent garlic from burning.Â
Tried this and it was DELICIOUS!!
Quick, easy, yummy
Used 2 single serve Spam pks.
The only thing that would make this recipe any better, is a “jump to recipe” button 🙂
This recipe is simple, quick, and FANTASTIC!
Everyone loves this – mother-in-law who doesn’t like spam, to father-in-law that is from Hawaii and grew up eating this… LOVES it!
Well done. This will be my go-to from now on.
This recipe is amazing. It’s the best fried rice I’ve ever had. I’ve already made it 4 times in a month and my whole family loves it. I made a double batch tonight. Forever recommend!
It was delicious and very easy to make, my first time making anything asian. In my case I felt like it needed a little more of the sauces than the recipe said, so I adjusted it a little bit. Definitely recommend it!
This recipe is very tasty on its own without adjustments! If you aren’t sure if you like white pepper, go easy on it at first. I’ve made this recipe quite a few times and now I just add things to the quantities I prefer: more eggs, less white pepper, more soy, and an addition of ginger. The spam is a great change of pace. Â
Look so good yummy make that for my family for dinner
Shit I’m ghetto asl and I do not have all the ingredients but damn I managed this shit to taste good as hell
I like it a lot!! It is delicious! I’ve made it twice now when I was a rush to get dinner made & it was so quick and easy to make! It’s now gonna be my go to now whenever I want quick fried rice! Definitely get the spam all good and browned/ crisped & if possible, if you have time, let the rice get cold by putting it in the fridge for a little because it will fry better versus it getting a little mushy because it’s so hot from being freshly made like it did a couple of months ago when I first tried this recipe out. If possible even two or three day old rice would work really well just plain white rice or whatever you have I think would work. And you wouldn’t even have to heat it up because it would get hot in your wok or frying pan or large pot or whatever you’re cooking it in.
i made this last night and was surprised at just how good it was. The secret is to really crisp up the spam. i didn’t have scallions and i did add a little sesame oil….but other than that followed the directions. Will make again.
Great recipe! We loved it! Will be making it for company!
this was delicious and easy to do, we loved it
Ugh , this is sooooo good and satisfying ! My family will eat this a lot ! Bless this recipe lol! Yummy !
Made this a few times now and always delicious!Â
Wow, this really was damn good!
Yesterday saw a recipe for fried Spam found your recipe decided to try it. Didn’t have any span frozen corn or frozen carrots so I made it using what I had, sliced beef frozen peas, rice, I did have all the Asian ingredients one word to describe TASTY!
I had the craving for Spam and this recipe was perfect. It was so much better than I expected. Next time I will try the low sodium Spam.
Made mine with low sodium spam because that’s all I had. Rest of the recipe made exactly as written and it came out so good! Next time I’ll have to make a double batch because it went fast! Even my 4 year old who suddenly stopped liking rice ate it up.
damndelicious!! My family loved it. So easy to make. Thank you so much!
Just tried it out today and it was amazing! My family loved it!!!the only thing  I did differently was substituted fish oil for oyster sauce. It brought down a lot of saltiness.Â
i didnt really have fried rice, but replaced with noodles. IT WAS AMAZING. thanks for putting this up!
We love spam fried rice and your recipe didn’t disappoint. I used bacon flavored spam, and had to use a can of drained mixed veggies instead of frozen. Still yummy! I like the sriracha too!
I liked this but will reduce the soy sauce as it was super salty. I used the low sodium spam too
We love this recipe at my house. Matter of fact we love all of your recipes…. I came across some black pepper spam and it gives it a little kick since we don’t really like sriracha. Delish!
I’ve been making this recipe for several years. My kids both like it. It’s a very quick and easy dinner, as long as I remember to cook the rice the day before. Leftovers are rare, but they work well for school lunches or picnic food.
(Note: I use the low sodium Spam and it’s still fairly salty.)
This was delicious! I did use lite spam and olive oil spray for a healthier version. It did not disappoint! Thanks for the recipe!
Made this fried rice today for the first time and it was delicious. Followed the recipe. The whole family enjoyed it.
Was so easy to make, will certainly add it to my favourites.
We love Spam, having married a Filipino lol. I use Spam often when I need a meat for fried rice. I like how you make your recipe for fried rice and much better than mine lol. This is delicious ! Most recipes say just to scoot your rice over and then scramble the eggs. But I have found that doesnt work well for me. THIS is a perfect way to make it. THANK YOU! Both my daughter and i keep turning to you for our recipes, from salmon, to scallops and now fried rice. All are Delicious!
I’m totally addicted to this recipe now!! I make it at least once a week now
Amazingly Easy and Delicious! Tried the recipe for fun and my family was pleasantly surprised: so much protein, flavor plus the vegetables make this recipe a keeper.
This is a wonderful recipe! My only comment is you do not need to make 3 cups of rice. It is way to much rice and you only need to make about 1 cup. I also did not add the fish sauce or the Sriracha.
I believe the 3 cups rice is COOKED. one cup uncooked yields about 3 cups cooked.
Hi, I came back after taking a hiatus from cooking anything interesting for the last few years and wow! It’s changed quite a bit. Thank you for this recipe, my son and fiance ate it up, and they both don’t eat vegetables!
Can’t wait to try it. I am a big fan of asian food.
I made this recipe for dinner today and my whole family loved it. Thank you!
Awesome!
We love so many recipes on this site, but this may be our current favorite. The whole family loves it! We do a double batch so we can enjoy the leftovers, and even working with such a big quantity, it is insanely easy to make. (We use our wok instead of a skillet to fit all the ingredients in.) Awesome.
Sweet! Happy you’re enjoying it!
I know this is old but do you cook the rice sushi style or white? I tend to make sushi and used the leftover rice! Thanks.Â
That sounds like a great idea!
Delicious!!!!! Made this last night and we devoured it! Will make it again!
Thank you Phoenix! We love to hear that 🙂
What kind of rice do you use for this recipe? I’m not sure if basmati is best for fried rice. Thank you.
I have used basmati rice in fried rice before and loved it! But you can always use a rice of your choice to suit your personal preferences.
I actually made this, double the amounts. Kept the onions out. Which makes it also a great dish to share with my dogs. They normally just get rice and chicken with some veggies in it. I figured since I was making it, I’d make enough to share with them.
That is not good for your dogs!
Not good for your dogs!
I LOVE spam fried rice!!! I will have to make this recipe very soon!!! 🙂
I just made this fried rice and it’s so good! Perfect proportions of all the ingredients! I asked my teenage son to try a bite and he took the bowl away from me saying it was really good, and he’s tried a lot of fried rice since it’s a staple at family gatherings. I grew up on fried rice but have never liked it when I made it…my husband even made it better than me, until today. And the recipe only uses one pan so less clean up. Thank you so much for this recipe!
PS – I substituted the spam for Chinese sausage. I love your site and have tried several of your recipes which always turn out great!
Just made this for lunch and it is so good! THE perfect comfort food. My 4 year old picky eater finished his bowl way before everyone else. Thanks for the awesome recipe.
I just got off the phone with my sister-in-law. She told me that she made fried spam and rice with egg dish for her family. I have never heard of this before. She said the whole family loved it. So here I sit and I googled the recipe and your recipe came up. I have made several of your recipes and never have gone wrong! So I am going to make this recipe for my family. Thank you so much for posting this!
Any idea the caloric count? Love love love this recipe.

Thanks for posting your recipe. Earlier today I had the desire for Spam Fried Rice. Your recipe is the greatest! I truly enjoyed my meal. I’ll be checking back often to discover new culinary delights.
Thanks again.
Oh. My. Goodness! I finally found a recipe for Spam Fried Rice, and I’m definitely looking forward to making it for lunch or dinner someday. 🙂
This totally reminds me of home. We always had spam on hand. And always made fried rice with it! Now that I’m living with my fiance, (who is white) I didn’t think he’d like spam. Today I went out to buy some and pan fried it a little to eat with some rice. I will be making this for dinner tonight!
Recipe looks great. I’m thankful I bought a rice cooker with sautée feature. I can sauté everything in the cooker’ then when liquid is added it automatically switches to the next cook mode. One pot is my way to go. My friends at work were talking about rice cookers. I kind of laughed and said, you can cook rice in no time in the stove, why buy another gadget. The convencing part of their speal was, you can walk away, set a timer etc. just like a crock pot, which I happened to own a couple of. I happened to be walking through Costco and there she was, a shiny programable dream stainless steal, sautée, cooks rice, works as a crock pot, keeps warm, steamer basket, rice paddle, and was programable with delay feature. Sold. So that said, I’m making fried rice as I type this, sitting in my recliner, not standing by the stove …aaaaaw ya
Do you happen to have nutrition facts for this dish? I looked on mobile and pc, and couldn’t find them on either.

Can I keep this in a crock pot to keep warm?
Without further recipe testing, I cannot advise if this can be kept warm in the slow cooker. Please use your best judgment for serving and reheating.
I actually tried keeping it warm in a crock pot myself for a potluck event and while it still tasted fine, the spam turned a brown color and didn’t look that appetizing.
Hi!
thanks for the awesome recipe simple and it looks like it’s going to turn out delicious. One question though does the cook rice have to be straight out of the rice cooker or does it have to be cooled down what do I do?? Im learning how to cook so sorry if this is a dumb question 🙂 thank you
Not a dumb question at all! It is actually best to use day old rice for fried rice, but if you have freshly made hot rice, that should be fine too! There’s no need to cool down prior to using.
This recipe is amazing, my kids loved it, especially my three-year-old. Very tasty and easy to assemble, Thank you so much.
I can’t wait to try this! Your blog is amazing! I love the pictures and details. Keep it up!
If you dont mind could you tell me what makes big difference between using frozen veggies and can or fresh veggies? I was EVER interested in cooking but lately I just started loving and enjoying cooking! Many recipes like above are using frozen peas or corns but wonder if I just use can one. Is it gonna make big difference for tasting?? Thanks!
Cloey, I prefer to use frozen veggies because it is cheaper and it’s always something that I have on hand. It will make a tiny difference in taste because if you are using canned corn kernels versus frozen corn kernels, the canned corn will be a little bit sweeter. But really, it’s up to you and your taste preferences.
Also frozen veggys are better because there flash frozen sealing in all the good stuff vs even “fresh” non frozen fruits and veggies. Gotta think how many days it takes a tomato truck to get to a processing plant and then to the grocery store. The only exception to this is Proably publix but you pay more. Then again there veggies and fruit always taste extra fresh.
Hi there! I simply would like to offer you a huge thumbs up for your great info you have right here on this post.
