Asian Turkey Lettuce Wraps
These simple wraps comes together in less than 30 min, and it’s incredibly hearty, healthy and filling!
Before I became a stay-at-home blogger, Jason and I ate out almost every single day of the week. It was so much easier than cooking at home and then having to do the dishes thereafter. But after awhile, it became increasingly expensive and I quickly began to see some weight gain. So that’s how this blog actually came about – as a way to save money and to create a more healthier lifestyle for my family.
So I’ve teamed up with Cook Smarts for the month of September in their Meal Planning Awareness campaign. As money and resources are being wasted, along with the rise in obesity in the U.S., we want to teach home cooks how to easily plan delicious and healthy meals for the week in about 30 minutes, which is less time than it takes to eat just one meal out! Meal planning can seem a bit daunting but with the right tools and knowledge, you’ll have everything you need to succeed in the kitchen to live a healthy, happy lifestyle.
So I hope you’ll join me in my pledge to prepare 4 or more home cooked meals over eating out for 1 month, starting with these super easy turkey lettuce wraps.
If you’re like me, you’ll eat this by the spoonful!
Asian Turkey Lettuce Wraps
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground turkey
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, diced
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 3 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 head butter lettuce
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium high heat.
- Add ground turkey and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the turkey as it cooks; drain excess fat and set aside. Add garlic, bell pepper and onion to the saucepan. Cook, stirring frequently, until tender, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, ginger and ground turkey until well combined. Add rice and green onions and gently toss to combine.
- To serve, spoon several tablespoons of the turkey mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf, taco-style.

This recipe was…damn delicious and very tasty!  I’m a total beginner cook, but was able to follow this recipe without too much fuss.  So helpful to have photos a plenty.  I really like a photo of all of the ingredients so you can get an idea for ratios of the ingredients. Â
Might be a noob question, but are yall using the 93 / 7% fat or the 99 / 1% fat ground turkey?
Cant wait to keep working my way thru the recipes on this site!
Super quick and easy to make! Delicious as well as WW-point friendly.
This tasted great! A simple, yet feels so fancy, recipe and so flexible to allow for modifications. Making it during this coronavirus time (hence the need for substitutions) was a mega treat and a nice departure from our normal dinner rotation. I didn’t have bell pepper, but I did have some dried shiitake in the pantry, so rehydrated a handful of those babies and chopped them up finely to add umami to the dish. Mixed in a dollop of oyster sauce and some sriracha to the hoisin-soy mix. Served rice on the side instead of mixed in, but you know what, we really didn’t even need it. Took reader Emily‘s suggestion below to add crushed peanuts. Served with trimmed romaine lettuce as I did not have butter or iceberg. Both my guy and I loved. This is a keeper – thank you, Damn Delicious!
This is very good! I’ve made it twice now and will continue to make it for me and my bf. I wish it made a little more.. I might double the recipe next time. We added chopped peanuts on top 🙂Â
What’s the serving size of this recipe?
This was delicious!! It was pretty easy to throw together all in one Pan and the DIY component before you eat was fun!
This is one of my favorite recipes. Can this be made in crock pot?
What a great idea! But unfortunately, without having tried this myself, I cannot answer with certainty. But if you get a chance to try it, please let me know how it turns out! Good luck! 🙂
awesome recipe, was delicious oiled into cooked acorn squash halves too 🙂
piled…into 🙂
This was a winner!! A new staple in our home and I will be looking at your other recipes now! So easy and so delicious!!
Dinner and all 3 kids took leftovers for lunch (I doubled the recipe). Thank you!!Â
Lani
Yum!! We loved this and it was so easy to prepare, too! Great flavor!
Not that tasty. Â Will not make again.
Super quick and easy to make! Delicious as well as WW-point friendly.
Can this be served as an appetizer at room temperature?
Yes, of course, but this is truly best when served warm.
Delicious!! And pretty easy too!
That’s how we like them 🙂 Glad you did too!
After 6 years of being married and having kids, this is my go to for a quick and delicious meal! Thanks!!
That’s great Angie, thank you for sharing!
So Damn Delicious! 🙂 This is our go to recipe for lettuce wraps and there are never any leftovers. Last night we had lettuce wraps and also baked up some wonton wrappers and made little asian turkey lettuce cups as well. my boys 7, 6, and 4 loved it! My favorite thing is how versatile it is .. sometimes we add mushrooms, or substitute cauliflower rice for the white rice, endless possibilities! 🙂 Thanks you so much for this recipeÂ
Tried this recipe last night. Loved it so much I considered having the leftovers for breakfast today but decided that I had better wait and share it for dinner tonight with my boys. My 6 year old can be picky when it comes to meat dishes, but he ate every last bite of this. Best.Recipe.EVER!!
can i replace the rice with chopped mushrooms?
Yes, what a great idea!
We really loved this recipe! Thank you so much. We added water chestnuts and chopped mushroom. I also topped it with cilantro and served it with a sauce I made by mixing Asian chili garlic sauce with some low sodium soy sauce as an optional topping for an extra kick. Hubby had two helpings and even sent photos to his sisters which is a true sign of big hit. 🙂
Thank you, Chung-ah! This recipe got 9.5 stars from my husband last night! He devoured them! I was shocked that something healthy made with turkey and brown rice could be so high on his ranking! It was absolutely delicious. I added in some stir fry veggies because I had half a bag leftover from a previous meal as well as mushrooms that I was trying to use up and it was great!Â
Have you tried these in any other type of lettuce, instead of butter lettuce??Â
Any other type of lettuce should work just fine.
My husband and have been on a mission to eat healthy. I made these this past weekend for dinner and we both LOVED the recipe. I shared the recipe with my mother in law, and she loved it too, and she made it for us for dinner again last night! I am keeping this one for the recipe book. I am loving your healthy recipes, thank you!
I don’t see green onions in ingredients? How many did you use?
Krystin, the amount of green onions is listed in the ingredient list:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground turkey
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 small onion, diced
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1 cup cooked rice
3 green onions, thinly sliced
1 head butter lettuce
Made these tonight and they were so delicious! I happened to have some fresh thai basil to chop and toss in right at the end, my oh my, delicious addition. Thank you so much for the recipe.
I made this for dinner tonight, and it was absolutely delicious! Did everything exactly as instructed, except I also added sliced water chestnuts at the end. Because I’ll take any excuse to eat water chestnuts haha.
I just made this, and I must say it was awesome! I too used ground turkey breast, and I couldn’t tell a difference. Never again will I go out to a restaurant to get this, it’s too easy to make at home, and healthier!
Could I replace the white rice with quinoa instead?
Yes, that would be a great substitute!
I made these last night and they truly came together quickly and my 10 and 14 yr old boys both loved them. Will make them again!
I just made these last week! So good!!!!!
Hi Chung-Ah,
Do you have any personal recipes for homemade Hoison sauce, or know of any? Thank you for all the budget friendly, delicious, easy recipes. I use many for entertainment and have tried to hashtag Damn Delicious on my Instagram pictures. I want to give credit where credit is due!
Unfortunately, I do not have a recipe for homemade hoisin sauce at this time, but I have just added it to my bucket list! 🙂
I made this yesterday….Oh My!!!! It was soooo good. Made SO much!! Lots of leftovers for lunches and suppers.
Thank you.
Yum thanks heaps. So delicious!
Great recipe!!! I added water chestnuts, chopped peanuts and accidentally forgot the rice- still delicious. I actually used the rice in my tofu vegetarian version for my 11 year old. Love your website!
I used to view cooking as a necessary evil for those who couldn’t afford to eat out all the time… namely, me! For 2 years or so, I scraped by, cooking boring meals typical of college students. Then one day, I tried a recipe that made my roommate’s mouth water and I realized cooking could be fun, even for cheapsters like me! Now I love cooking and look forward to every pay day so I can buy ingredients for a new recipe! I’m so glad I found your site. I’ve cooked several of your dishes and just love them. You’re my tried and true, go-to recipe site now. Thanks!
Could I use green bell peppers instead, that what I have right now?
Yes, that should be fine.

Planning on making this for dinner this week, but I just have one quick question….Does it matter whether the cooked rice is hot or cold? Thanks 🙂
Nicole – feel free to use cold rice. It just may take a little bit longer to heat through than using hot rice.
this was a great recipe I made it last night and my family I absolutely loved it it was so good I’m going to make this again and again and again and again thank you so much for the recipe

I’ve been meaning to try this recipe for weeks and let me tell you – once I made it it did not disappoint! We scarfed down the food in silence (a true tell of a good meal!). Thank you!!!!
Lettuce wraps were a hit. I have 3 boys plus my husband… A very steak eating family. Trying to eat healthier. This is a good first step.
I love lettuce wraps and look forward to trying your version 🙂 They’re great because you can make a lot at one time and freeze dinner sized portions and then reheat them super easy. Voila, dinner! lol
Do you have the nutrition facts for this dish?
Unfortunately, as I am not a registered dietician, I am not comfortable sharing nutritional information of my recipes. Please use online resources to obtain such information.
I completely understand. Thank you for your quick response! I made this for dinner the other night & it was a major hit.
I’m so happy to hear that!

I’ve made this several times now, and each time my youngest daughter asks if she can eat any of the leftovers, if there are any! 🙂 I am thankful for your photos, as I didn’t think to add the ground turkey back into the pan when you add the sauces in, as you don’t specify it in the recipe, which isn’t a big deal, but it just reaffirms for me why I like blogs that show the cooking process. 🙂
We’ve eaten this in romaine and iceberg lettuce, and have also tried it with plain flour tortilla shells (soft), and I’ve eaten it straight out of a bowl. It’s delicious any way it’s presented. Thank you!
I’m so glad you’ve made this. We make this about once a week – it’s just so easy! And thanks for the heads-up on the ground turkey – I just updated the recipe.

Wow! Great recipe. Quick, easy and delicious. Don’t be afraid to double the recipe if you are making this for a larger number of people. My modification was to add some shredded carrots and a dash of red pepper flakes.
Tonight’s dinner!
I’m making this recipe for dinner tonight! 🙂
Let me know how it turns out!
Whoa! Shows how long it has been since I’ve been reading blogs. You got a re-design! It looks great Chung-Ah! And these Turkey wraps oh man, do I love a lettuce wrap! Can’t wait to make these.
Pinning this!
And I think I get to meet you in a couple of weeks during your Iowa farm tour! You won’t be touring my farm, but I’m happy to share information about turkey farming with you!
We love cool Asian lettuce wraps and this is not exception, especially with healthy turkey as the star ingredient 🙂
Not only the food looks delicious, but it’s important that it is easy and fast to cook on week nights. Most people are so busy and very hard to find the time to shop and cook. Meal planning does help, but sometimes it’s even hard to do when our weekend is filled with all the activities. Your turkey lettuce wraps look healthy, delicious and easy to make!!! Love it!
I’m happy about this campaign. I cook practically every meal. Weeknight and Saturday dinners with enough leftovers for the following day’s lunch. Saves a lot of money doing that. Also, I had my first burrito experience in Melbourne 2 weeks ago. This Asian style burrito, I am most certainly down for.
It looks delicious! Thank you for the photos! (:
This looks so delicious!!! I want to try this VERY soon!!! YUM.
Great job! This looks so perfect and I love that infographic!
This recipe looks amazing! Thanks so much for helping us promote Meal Planning Awareness month too – it’s been going great.
Oh YAY! I’m so glad you enjoyed this recipe, Chung-Ah! Your wraps look just irresistible, and I love the idea of ground turkey instead of chicken. You’re makin’ me crave them all over again!
Thanks for the awesome recipe, Georgia! We really loved it!
I love lettuce wraps! Now I can make my own and skip the take-out.
Nice recipe – thank you.
Simple cute and helpful pictorial!
I do this for my family memebers but I find I still go around shopping centres anyway! (I always run out of butter and sugar, hehehe dessert blog problems)
I love this for a quick meal, also the mince is great for freezing too. My left over are often put into noodle salads, tacos and jaffle sandwiches (it is Australia style toastie).
Ooooh those jaffle sandwiches sound awesome.
Well over a year ago, my hubby and I decided to curb our eating out. We did….drastically. There were just so many benefits to it. I love to cook, and doing it just makes sense. Not only does eating in have the (potential) to be very healthy (dependent on recipes/ingredients, of course), but, sometimes the hubby and I team up to make something. It’s been fun, enjoyable, and I think people would be surprised if they just gave it a try. We really haven’t looked back since we began doing that. And, now, with a newborn, we are really trying to our best to teach him good eating habits…and, keeping him as far away from McDonald’s as possible….lol.
Jason and I like to team up too – we have lobster on our list to make!
What a great addition to any weekly meal plan! I am a little obsessed with anything I can eat wrapped up in one delicious package and these look like healthy perfection 🙂
We had Asian Turkey Lettuce cups last week!! I could seriously eat them every day. Love that you added rice to the mixture. These look so good!
This is one of my favorite eat-out meals. Thanks for the at-home recipe 🙂
I have been intimidated by cooking anything with an Asian influence (as I failed a few times early on) but this makes me want to take another shot at it. Thanks for the great recipe.
I love anything I can put in a lettuce wrap! This sounds amazing!
