No Bake Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Easy peasy 4-ingredient treats that are sure to be your pup’s favorite. And you can whip these up in just 15 min!
After making those peanut butter dog bones, I’ve been having so much fun in the kitchen making dog treats for my two baby corgis.
It’s also been a huge money-saver because I’m alway stocking up on the organic treats at the pet store, but at the end of the day, nothing beats homemade.
It’s even better when you don’t have to turn on the oven. All you need is a mixer for this one.
But what I really like about these treats is how you can chill or freeze them, making these to be the perfect midday snack to energize your pups.
Best of all, these treats are chockfull of pumpkin, which is a great source of fiber and helps with digestive regularity.
But you may want to keep these treats out of reach because they’ll be sure to eat every single last one of these!
No Bake Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Ingredients
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- ¼ cup peanut butter
- ¼ cup milk
- 3 cups old fashioned oats, divided
Instructions
- In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat pumpkin puree, peanut butter and milk on medium-high until well combined, about 1-2 minutes. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups old fashioned oats at low speed, beating just until incorporated.
- Using a small cookie scoop, roll the mixture into 1 1/4-to-1 1/2-inch balls, forming about 20. Dredge balls in remaining 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, pressing to coat.
- Cover and place in the refrigerator until firm, about 1 hour.*

My dogs love these! I have made them many times, lately started processing the oats as reviewer Caleb mentioned. today I deceided to process the oats (not into a flour but broken down a bit. I reserved the oats for coating but just added all the other ingredients to the food processor. It worked like a dream! Doubled the recipe and it yielded 74 balls. I freeze them, vacuum pack in small batches. Of course George Michael and Millie Bobby got to try them out right away and gave a resounding paws up!!!
I made these, minus the milk and baked at 350 for 15 minutes. I roll into small balls that she gets as rewards / training treats. My dog absolutely goes crazy for them – and there is nothing unhealthy. We are dealing with some allergy issues, so this is great. Much cheaper than 10 cookies for $10 from the specialty store!
My dogs love these!
I leave in the freezer and give them frozen
I doubled the recipe and added 60 finely ground glucosamine pills and then weighed the batch and divided it by 60- they came out to 23 grams a piece. I also ran the oatmeal through the food processor briefly to make it a coarse oat flour- I think it helps with digestion- less gas. And they seem to hold together better. Same thing with the coating- a fine ground “oat flour” keeps them from sticking together. My dogs go nuts for these! I was buying name brand glucosamine treats for my 3 dogs which was costing $50/ month. This takes a little time but is way cheaper and there’s no mystery ingredients, additives, or preservatives. And I tried them too, they don’t taste bad with the glucosamine, but not sweet enough for my taste!! My 13 year old boy gets around a lot better with a regular supplement of these treats!
Thanks for the recipe!!!
My picky dogs loved these tasty morsels! I think the peanut butter in it was a perfect mix with the pumpkin and oats.
I’ve made these in the past but today I only have the 1-minute old fashioned oats Is it okay to use them?
My Boston Terrier (2 yr F) loved this recipe. Yet I have one easy question:
What is the shelf life for this recipe? And could you begin including this info with your recipes? Especially for guys like myself which are novice chefs in the kitchen!
Sincerely yours,
Will
Dog liked em
We foster an array of dogs, from puppies to seniors and everydoggy in between. This is one of the few fall back recipes I know everyone in the house will love and be able to digest with no tummy troubles! Thank you very much!
Agreed, Please add stability when refrigerated or frozen.
OMGOODNESS…..Couldn’t be healthier or easier!
These are the best! My dogs love them and so easy!
i know right…they are so amazing to my puppy and i actually made more today…
This recipe is awesome!! My yorkie is always so picky with treats but these make her go nuts!! She LOVES them.
This recipe is awesome. I use the treats to give my dogs there daily their daily meds.
This recipe looks wonderful, but I don’t have oats and raw pumpkin to make a pumpkin puree!
Use canned pumpkin.
My Shih Tzu loves them. I have a very tiny dog bone shape cookie cutter. I press down the ingredients
one at a time individually. Put them on a wax paper on a cookie sheet. FREEZE THEM. He LOVES THEM. I only give him one a day so he doesn’t get chubby.
Takes a bit of time but well worth seeing him enjoyment eating them.
Sure hopes someone try’s the idea. Really cute.
Can you freeze these also?
These are excellent and easy! My pups love them.
I add all the oatmeal then press them evenly into a jelly roll pan and cut them into squares. My mini dachshund loves them. After reading other reviews I plan to try sweet potato and bananas for something different. Even though she definitely isn’t bored with the pumpkin
Had to give Belle a sample before I made the rest if the treats into balls. She loved them. Made almost a double batch in order to use the whole can of pumpkin puree.
Can I give this to a puppy? She is 3 months old.
I was concerned about the non cooked oats reviewer’s notes so i toasted the oats, let them cool, made a batch. Thank you for the recipe. My gsd loved it. And i dont have to worry about the oats. Problem solved.
I made these, but substituted the cow secretions for Trader Joe’s Organic Coconut Cream (same amount). My two boys went NUTS for them!
not sure on the recipe because i havent trued them vut to Wendy on the use of coconut cream…any form of coconut is very bad for a dogs digestion…
Not really. Coconut is absolutely safe and beneficial for dogs. I give a spoon of Extra virgin coconut oil in the morning to Both my mini schnauzer and my boxer and they LOVE it. There are Natural coconut chips treats at the store that they love too. However, any type of food can actually upset a dog’s digestive system depending on the dog, just like on us humans. On the other hand, I did some research and found out that cow’s milk is in fact not good for dogs 🙁
You can use goat milk. I buy it frozen and let It thaw and my gsd loves it.
My 5 pitbull loved their treats.
Wow, that’s great!
These are the best thing ever. I’ve made them so many times now and my harper can’t get enough. I’ve also noticed it hasn’t affected her stool in anyway. Great stuff thank you for posting the recipe
I make these all the time for my pups AND my grandpuppy! They all LOVE them! I usually substitute mashed sweet potato for the pumpkin because I usually seem to have one I need to use up. Pumpkin for the holidays – just because. Either works, and the dogs agree. Terrific recipe!
Thanks for sharing!
I just have a quick question, After they have been in the fridge for the hour do you leave them in there and just get in the fridge and get them out as you need them or can they be left out at room temperature after?
Cassie, it is best to keep these in the fridge. 🙂
I enjoy making delicious treats and homemade dog food for my three silly fur kids. A toy mix, a gsd, and Great Dane! Three unique palates- so I was thrilled to see this easy recipe for punkin pb oaties! lol I have grandkids, too. Sorry for the name change. (Ps. Never let grandkids choose names- trust me! Or your poor dog will be named Maisy Mouse,Peppa pig, and umi zumi) I keep these items stocked in my pantry. So it was super easy to whip up! I made several batches- some how I managed to actually have some for the dogs! They are super yummy! Try to argue with three toddlers! I dare you. lol you’ll end up with these delicious treats in your mouth, too! Easy to make and very easy clean up- if you don’t share a kitchen with three toddlers! Please wrap the grands up in bath towels before trying to pick their peanut butter and pumpkin covered bodies before sticking their wriggling slippery bodies into the tub! I never laughed so hard in my life! Of course the three fur kids were equally covered in peanut butter and pumpkin! If it wasn’t winter- I’d have let the kids and dogs play in the sprinklers!
I can’t guarantee you’ll have as much fun making these doggie treats as we did.. nor need a bubble bath afterwards- LoL
But these dog treats are damn delicious! Aptly named!
I love all of these delicious recipes!!!
Grandma Tracy and the help of three toddlers and three dogs!
Of course!
I made these for my dogs except with banana puree instead of pumpkin. They go absolutely crazy when I pull the treats out of the freezer!
That’s so great!
Just made these for an older yellow lab. Tjey are in the fridge now for the hour. I hope she likes the.
How long can these be frozen for?
As I am not an expert on food safety, I cannot really say with certainty. Methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with. Hope that helps, Shirley!
Can these treats be frozen?
Yes, absolutely. I sometimes freeze them to extend the shelf life.
Is uncooked oatmeal good for your dogs I’ve heard that it’s not good for them thank you
Doreen, there can be risks involved when offering your dog new foods. Please consult with your pet’s veterinarian and use personal judgment for your own dog’s diet.
Completely a new dog mom here, so I apologize for asking such a stupid question! Is milk OK for dogs to consume?
Hi Kate! Some dogs have no problems digesting milk and dairy products, yet others can experience gas, diarrhea or vomiting — similar to us humans! It really depends if your dog can handle lactose, which is best answered by your veterinarian.
How do these hold up to being put in a pocket or bait bag? Do they fall apart or melt? Has anyone tried making them about the size of half a teaspon?
Could you add carrots to this ?
Yes, absolutely.
I made these the other night while puppy was sleeping……..had to make a second batch because the first was gone before he awakened…….all I can say is “delicious”….oh yes, Maverick likes them too
Doreen, thanks so much for posting.. AKC says not to give your dog raw oatmeal. It must be cooked.
Cooked oatmeal is to be given in moderation.
I will pass on this.
I’m wanting to make these for my chiweenie; as for milk: whole, 2% or What? As for peanut butter any particular? Also cook oats or not?
Stacy, you can use a milk of your choice but please note that most dogs can drink cow’s milk or goat’s milk but some dogs may be allergic/lactose intolerant. I also recommend using a peanut butter that does not contain xylitol. The oats are not cooked in this recipe. Hope that helps!
These treat are awesome an easy to make my 2 Boxers love them every time I open my frigerator they think now that they get a treat thank you so much
Great Recipe!! All three of our Caulker’s love the treats. I just made sure the peanut butter did not contain xylitol. I’m recommending this on the number of the Cogger sites I follow on Facebook.
How many days will the treats last?
A few days at least but as I am not an expert on food safety, I cannot really say with certainty – sorry, Jenna! Methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with.
Can u use can pumpkin?
Yes.
Oats are a healthy alternative for your dog, but are best if served up cooked. Whole oats w/no sugar or added crap.
I’ve made these several times. I always double it. I add different things to it, but I always add 1 tsp. Each of cinnamon and turmeric and 1 TBS. Chia Seeds, plus a little more milk for the chia seeds to soak up. I freeze then in molds. Jake loves them.
Made these substituted coconut oil instead of milk heard it keeps fleas away .great recipe and easy to make thanks.
How much coconut oil did you use?
Thanks for the tip. MY little one cannot have milk/dairy products. This fits the bill.
I made these for my fur babies as a pill pocket substitute. They absolutely love them. Thanks for the great recipe!
We have an older rescue dog that has issues with milk, we’d like to avoid if possible is there a good sub? Thanks!
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
Maybe organic coconut milk
Can these be made in larger batches and frozen?
Yes!
My concern is the raw oats and milk. I don’t think I’ll make them.
We do not use cow milk. Is soy milk OK for dogs?
I recommend consulting with your pet’s veterinarian.
Are they suppose to harden?
Not exactly, unless you store them in the refrigerator or freezer.
My chihuahua wont eat pumpkin or sweet potatoes no matter how I hide them. He loves his peanut butter. Wonder if ok to just do them without and just pb and oats?
Yes, absolutely.
Sorry for maybe a stupid question but I want to make these dog treats that you have posted. Is the wholewheat flour Plain flour or self raising flour have never used it before.
and your dogs are georgeous cant wait to make these Fran
Awwww, thanks, Fran! Not a stupid question at all. But there is no flour in this recipe. Are you referring to a different recipe?
Can the pumpkin be substituted for anything else? I have run out so would love to know possible alternatives
Sweet potato puree would be a great substitute.
Could I substitute with banana or apple? home pureed of course for no added sugar.
Hello! I love this recipe! Just curious though, have you tried to bake these? I’m wondering how they would turn out.
I actually haven’t!
your pup in this post is the cutest thing ever. What breed or mix is he/she? looks a bit Corgy…..
Yes! Full corgi actually 🙂
Hi<! Where do you get pumpkin puree?
Thank you,
Irina
It should be readily available at your local grocery store. But you can also make it at home. There are many DIY recipes available online.
can you freeze them?
Yes!
Can u freeze them and then give frozen to eat?
Yes!
I want to make this recipe with my students. Can i substitute the peanut butter with Sun butter? We are not allowed to have peanut butter.
Yes, but please consult with your pet’s veterinarian regarding possible allergies your dog may have.
Does it last? Do you have to refigerate?
I recommend storing in the refrigerator to extend shelf life.
Hi! I’m new to your blog and I love all of these dog recipes! I have a question about this one… I don’t own an electric mixer is it possible to simply knead the ingredients together with my hands? That might seem like a silly question but I really want to try this one and I can’t imagine that I would have the money to afford an electric mixer anytime soon. Thanks!
Yes, absolutely, but it will take some elbow grease!
These work so great for hiding pills! My dog loves the treats and is clueless his meds are in there.
Thank-You so much for the great easy recipe.
My dog loooved these! Thank you for another great recipe!!
I just made these today for my four dogs. I have to tell you that my pickiest little eater, Buzz, (Chihuahua mix) came into the kitchen to see what was going on. I gave him a taste, and he did his usual “snub” move where he sniffed and backed away with his nose in the air. My Rat Terrior, Charlie, came and stole the taste I had put down. But the little picky dude came back. I gave him another little nibble, which he snubbed again. Charlie again moved in and ate it. Buzz came back again, and I gave him a third little piece. He saw Charlie moving in, prepared to take it again and this time he gobbled it up. He stayed in the kitchen while I made them, and he kept scouring the floor to see if I dropped anything. I’m thrilled to have a treat that he will eat, and a healthy one! When I take it out of the refrigerator, he smells them and comes running! He absolutely loves these; so thank you for sharing this recipe.
Our dogs will love these treats … thanks for sharing! Your corgis are adorable!
Great recipe! I made these for my English bulldog today…he has a sensitive stomach and lots of food allergies, so these really fit the bill. So much better than store-bought treats, too. They were good enough to serve to my husband, but I did’t want to cheat the dog. 🙂
These are a great idea, but I barely find enough time to bake for my kiddos, let alone my dogs. I know, they do deserve the best, but I’m just don’t know if I can find the time! Maybe I’ll have my kids make these for the dogs!
I just showed those to my dog and I swear he nodded, Or maybe he just stared, either way, I know he’d love him. I need to be a better dog Mom and stop feeding him cheap crappy doggie treats. Trying these out!
We have an older rescue dog that has issues with milk, we’d like to avoid if possible is there a good sub? Thanks!
Jen, it is best to consult with your veterinarian for any possible substitutions.
I made it without the milk and used baby food puree pumpkin, which has water added. I’m sure you could just use a little water to sub mine turned out fine.
The PUPS are sooooo cute!! And these look great. I love your site. I make your recipes all the time and they’re a huge hit!
Oh my gosh, I’m dying from the cuteness of that last photo in particular…those little whiskers!! I can almost feel my pup looking over my shoulder right now, begging me to make these!
These sound good enough for me to eat!
Thank you for doing a dog treat recipe without flour. I’m so happy!
Yay!!! I have been waiting for these!!!! I love that it is a no bake recipe!! So trying this out this weekend!!!
Was just wondering if you used the Regular or Quick Oats?
Carla, I used Quaker Old Fashioned Oats.
The treats look great but the dog steals the show! What a cutie!
Oh, and did I mention your furry kids are CUTE CUTE CUTE?!
What a great idea! I love that you posted this! Who said food blogs are just for people! 🙂 My sister is always looking for healthy treats for her sweet girl, Pippa (a Cavalier King Charles). She refuses to give her anything inorganic or sourced from outside the US. She made some homemade treats for her not long ago and I said we should put them on the food blog. I’m sending this recipe to her ASAP to try. Looks good enough to eat!
So So SOOOO cuuuuuuute!
My dog LOVED the peanut butter dog bones! I know he will love these as well. Your dogs are adorable!
Ahhh these sound really good, and I totally understand why the little four-paws wanted to get their snouts into these. Did you try one yourself?
I remember last year when I made dog biccies, and I tried one, it was all right! I prefer sweet biscuits though 😛 I have heard most dogs are crazy about peanut butter – can’t say I blame them 🙂 x
Hi,
Can these treats be fed to cats as well?
Thanks!
Stephanie, it is best to consult with your veterinarian.
Do you know if humans can eat this treats? I would be willing to eat them. They have my two favorite things peanut butter and pumpkin
Oh my goodness! He is too cute!! LOL!!
He is adorable
Peanut butter and pumpkin…my two favorite ingredients to write cookbooks about 🙂
You have the luckiest dogs in the whole world! I bet they go bonkers for these!!!
your pups are some awesome models… 🙂
