Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats
All you need is 4 ingredients for these hypoallergenic treats! And the coconut oil makes these so HEALTHY for your pup!
I have been obsessed with coconut oil lately. I know, I’m a little late to the coconut oil trend but better late than never, right?
I use it in all of my cooking, but more importantly, it’s a godsend for these two nuggets.
I have found that coconut oil has been shown to elevate metabolism, provide a higher level of energy and vitality, protect from illness, and speed healing. As a bonus, coconut oil can also improve your dog’s skin and coat, improve digestion, and reduce allergic reactions.
See, I told you. It really is a godsend.
And they make amazing 4-ingredient hypoallergenic treats for your pup, letting you use up those lingering ripe bananas just sitting on your counter.
See, Ollie knows what’s up. He’s even got his puppy eyes down to a science.
Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats

Looking for a treat recipe to use bananas and peanut butter. Preferably with oats instead of flour, the coconut oil was a plus. This one was exactly what I wanted. Then I saw the taste testers!! Corgis know about food, all about food and will happily tell you!
Seriously, a good and easy recipe made with ingredients that are good for my boy Lewis. If I could include a picture, you’d see another very happy Corgi enjoying his treats.
Thank you for sharing your recipe!
My dogs love these!! My toy poodle will only eat these.
So easy to make. My dog loves them! I used molds or just made a ball and squashed flat. Definitely making these again
How many days will these keep in a sealed container?
Our dogs love these cookies! They make good gifts for fellow dog owners too. I like to add a free range chicken egg and touch of flower (makes it easier to roll out), and cook for a little longer.
1/4 cup of coconut oil seem to be a lot. Is this measurement correct?
How long do these treats stay good? How should I store them? Thx. – trying these tonight!!
My four dogs loved loved loved these cookies. Just made a batch today which was so easy. 2 of the 4 pups have allergies and we are switching their proteins as well as their treats. Thank you.
Our dalmatians have gone absolutely nuts for these!!!! They were so easy to make, we had everything in the house to make them and we will definitely be making them again. Thanks so much for a great recipe. @poppyandralph
I have a pitbull, who does not enjoy most human foods (unlike other dogs who eat scraps that fall to the floor). However, he LOVES coconut oil, which is what sold me on trying this recipe. I did this with my kids as a Covid-19 quarantine project since the theme for their “school” this week is Pets! Our dog gobbled it up and was begging for more. These were super easy to throw together and the girls enjoyed using cookie cutters. Next time, I’ll probably skip the cookie cutter hassle and just cut them after baking as other reviewers suggested. Thanks for this easy peasy and yummy dog-approved treat recipe!
Loved this recipe will make it again! Here’s what I did differently: only used 2 and 1/2 cups oats, 2 tablespoons cinnamon, and 1 cup tapioca flour which helps make the treat gummy and less crumbly.
Make sure you check all processed foods for Palm Oil and stop buying those items..
Quick and easy to make! My doggie loved them and making more today
My toy poodle Loved these. And they are really really easy to make. I just formed them into balls and pressed and baked.
I will be making these again.
I try to watch the full recipe and make it my little Sugar. it loves to eat various types of treat and I preferred to avoid packaged food. Thanks to sharing something new for us.
Wthis is my go to dog treat recipe. I make them in my pampered chef mini muffin pan. I freeze half and store the others in the refrigerator.
Both of the dogs LOVE them! I doubled the recipe, too. Instead of doing cookie cutters, I just pressed it onto a greased (coconut oil) cookie sheet until the ‘dough’ was approximately 1/4th of an inch (no rolling pin). I baked 10 minutes, took out, cut into small 1″ squares (which went onto two large cookie sheets with a double batch) and then baked another 10 minutes or so. Took out, let cool, stored in a glass container. Perfect size for both pups and I love how healthy they are!
My lab collie cross absolutely loves these he would make them a meal if i let him
My picky Yorkiepoo and Chihuahua absolutely loves these treats. They were in the kitchen watching me the whole time wanting me to give them some before they were even cooked I even like them even though my boyfriend says they need some sugar LOL I like that they’re healthy for everyone 🙂
Dogs love them ! How many calories per batch does this have ? Ty

I decided to try making these yesterday…. the result: My dog absolutely loves them!! And they are extremely healthy and so easy to make!! I will be using this recipe again.
How long do these treats usually last if you store them in a jar. I had some of mine go fuzzy rather quickly so I just wanted to know how long they’re good for to stay out or if they need to be refrigerated.
A few days at least but as I am not an expert on food safety, I cannot really say with certainty. Methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with.
I just made these with organic peanut butter
I use Snickers Organic peanut butter. Only ingredient is peanuts.
My dog and friend’s dogs love these. I have made them a few times. They are easy to make. I don’t have any trouble getting them to stick together, roll out the dough, and use cookie cutters. My little pup needs to be on a low sodium diet, so I use organic, no salt added peanut butter. I have done just rolled oats, or oats and oat flour. I break up the oats a little with a whisk. You must knead the dough a few times. I use a small heart shape cutter and a dog bone shape, and both work great.
(To Anna, Steel cut oats will not work for any baking.)
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with these!
I made these tonight and my poochie loves them!
Our beagle loved them! I used PBfit instead, because with him being so food driven we needed to keep it a bit more “weight friendly”.
What is tbe texture of these dog treats? Do they bake up crispy or soft?
It’s soft.
Hi, my dog has food allergies, and my vet approved this recipe – suggesting switching out the peanut butter for almond butter. I made the cookies last night and they were a HUGE hit with my dog! I had a few myself! Unlike some of the other posters, my batter was too wet, not too dry. I had to keep adding oats. I will play around with proportions for the next batch, but am thankful to have found this recipe!!
Will today I tried this recipe and my two dogs love love them
Can u use extra virgin olive oil? Dog doesn’t like coconut. Thx
Yes, absolutely.
Can you use liquid coconut oil to make this dog treat recipe.
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.

Love these easy to make and my dogs love them ,just made 2 recepies .
I just took fast cooking oatmeal it worked out great .thanks for the recipie
I made these- sorta. Adjusted the ingredient ratios slightly as I added ground flax and parsley. I also cheated and threw it all in the food processor so there were no oat “chunks”. I used assorted cookie cutters to make fun shapes. Took closer to 15 minutes to bake.
How many does this recipe yield?
Sandy, the yield can vary as it depends on the size of the cookie cutters that you use.
Just made this and it is a HUGE hit with all 4 of my guys! I was concerned about the consistency problems others had mentioned so I used 1/2 oats and 1/2 oat flour and they turned out perfectly! I mixed it all together in the food processor and they were easy to roll out and the cookie cutter was no problem! This will definitely be a go to recipe from now on!
How long is the “shelf” life after you make them? I know they will probably go really fast, but just curious. Thanks.
As I am not an expert on food safety, I am not comfortable answering these questions. Methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with.
I’ve made these several times as gifts for friends’ dogs – only 1 out of 8 that wasnt keen she does’t like peanuts, the others all love them.
After googling that it’s fine for dogs, I tried some with cinnamon, and the taste even more delicious.
I like them too as a not too sweet flapjack, so ate the broken one.
After several batches, I’ve realised that faffing about with the bone shaped mould is what takes most of the time, and I’m not entirely sure the dogs stop to admire the shape. If I’m in a hurry I just make flat sausage shaped biscuits, or maybe just a few bone shaped ones to decorate the top of a basket., with plain shaped ones underneath.
My dogs love these, I used a heart cutter ❤
So nutritional and love I know exactly what’s in them. So easy to make for my special babies
Thank you so much for your sharing. I usually make foods for my two Dachshunds. But normally, I prepare meat, fish and egg. Your sharing is really interesting. And the part I like most is that the ingredients is easy to find and it’s not hard to make.
Hi!!!! How long will this cookies last, stored in a jar like in the picture???? Btw My Scottish love the recipe, I just lightly floured the surface with organic coconut flour instead.
It should keep for a few days but methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with.
My dogs love it. And very easy to make. Thank you for sharing.
Looking for a calming treat… do you think I could just add chamomile to your recipe?
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
I add chamomile to a lot of my home made treats (I have a very hyper dog!) and she also has a chamomile cuppa at night before bed which she LOVES!
The dough does not hold well for cookie cutters, so I rolled them into little balls and flattened to bake.
I am trying these. I hope Thunder and Hunny like them as much as your dogs.
So you start with a 1/4 cup of solid coconut oil and melt it then add to remaining ingredients?
Yes!
I will be trying these treats very soon. I am also glad some people have eaten these themselves. I read all the comments and glad I did. Thank you.
How can I make them so they are soft my doggy has barely any teeth left , he eats with his gums
You can try to bake them for a shorter duration of time but as always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
Will these need to be refrigerated”
Yes, you can refrigerate or freeze to extend shelf life.
What’s the shelf life ?
As I am not an expert on food safety, I cannot really say with certainty – sorry, Katlyn! Methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with.
These looks amazing. This may be a stupid question, but I’m going to a dog and human cookie exchange and I’m wondering what could be added to these to make them suitable for humans as well?
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
Cant wait to try these!! Think the dough will work in my preformed dog biscuit baking sheet? Thanks so much for sharing 🙂
Yes! I don’t see why it wouldn’t work! 🙂
Just got a puppy and enjoying all the puppy treats. This one is going into the cookie jar tonight! Thanks heaps!
How long are these good for?
I prefer to store them in the refrigerator to extend shelf life but as always, please use your best judgment.
What is the shelf life for these? I’d like to make a big batch.

Dear Chungah thank you so much for sharing this recipe. Made them today and my dog Lola loves this treats. She gave me tons of kisses after . Also is great to find a recipe with VCO which im including on Lola’s diet too. And it was so easy to prepare!!!. Would be nice if you give us another one.

How and where do I store them?
You can store them in an airtight container either in the fridge or freezer to extend shelf life.
I just made them and they turned out great! My dog love them! I ate some too. So simple yet so satisfying! The pooch agrees!
I ate them myself. SO GOOD
I did too! hahah even my son loves them!
After discovering this recipe at the start of the year I have only just got round to making these treats and I am so glad I did! Like you mentioned above I also went with real peanut butter and our young pups absolutely LOVED them and I will definitely be making again in the future 🙂
Fyi, natural pb is available in any grocery and contains only peanuts and salt–your dog does not need sugar, either! You may need to use more or less oats/oil depending on size of bananns–you can also process oats into oat flour for easier mixing.
Don’t know why mine look soooo good but are so crumbly it eas pretty much a wasted effort to even make them. Followed instructions to the letter but could tell by the texture they weren’t going to hold together. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks…but I am going to use these crumbles as a breakfast topping for my fur babies….
If the mixture is too dry, you can add more coconut oil as needed.
I had a similar problem, I just threw everything in a food processor for a few seconds, it breaks up the oats and blends everything so it’s easier to work with.
Just made these and they could not but cut with a cookie cutter. The “dough” was just loose oats basically that I had to pour onto the cookie sheet. Unfortunately did not work for me. Used all organic peanut butter and coconut oil and banana. Too bad was hoping for better.

Yes!! Had the same issue definitely will NOT be using this recipe again!!!!
Can I freeze these?
Yes! 🙂
I made these for my rats and 2 pups I was baby sitting! They were a huge hit and the recipe worked perfectly for me! Thank you for sharing.
They will last longer in an airtight container. I used the Glasslock cylinder. Was blessed to be able to get them at 99cent store for $1.99. One time deal.
Should the coconut oil be melted or solid?
Melted.
Earlier you replied to this question with solid coconut oil here you say melted. Which is it?
Charlotte, you want to start with 1/4 cup solid coconut oil prior to melting. Does that make sense?
So get 1/4 cup solid coconut oil then melt it and add it to the other ingredients, right?
I’m making these snacks right now. I was looking for a way to use up some ripe organic bananas I had around and came across this recipe. Just a word of advice for readers – please consider using real peanut butter. My local co-op has a peanut machine that grinds fresh peanuts into peanut butter. I believe Whole Foods has something similar. Or you can just make your own by grinding peanuts. Love how simple this recipe is. Can’t wait for the dogs to try them out.
Please tell me what kind of dogs those are? They are unbelievably adorable! Also, what kind/size of dutch oven/stock pot do you use in your soup pictures, they are red and blue colored? Did you ever blog about what you use in your kitchen?
Thank you! They are both Pembroke Welsh Corgis. I also use the Le Creuset Signature Enameled Cast-Iron 3.5 Quart Round French (Dutch) Oven, Marseille.
I just made these for my two Jack Chi’s and they absolutely loved them! Great recipe and so simple to make!!
Could these be made with peanut butter powder?
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment.
I mix pb powder with a little water to make a soft pb and use that and it works out great!
I made these for our son’s family beagle. They were a great hit so easy to make and much appreciated. When we visit I always like to bring the pets a great. This will be my “go to treat”from now on. Thanks for posting.
Love your blog & all of your recipes. Made these for my girl & she loves them. I just made cookies since I didn’t have cookie cutters. Mine turned out more chewy but she doesn’t mind. How do you store them & how long will they last? Thanks for all of the amazing recipes!
I prefer to store them in the refrigerator to extend shelf life but as always, please use your best judgment.
Would you share which coconut oil you used? There are so many kinds out there, some with a stronger coconut taste than others. This would be very helpful!
I love using Trader Joe’s Coconut Oil!
Is it 1/4 cup melted coconut oil or solid form?
Solid form.
Is the oatmeal precooked or raw?
The oatmeal is not precooked.
The recipe says melted, so are we measuring solid first and then melt
Yes, that is correct.
So enjoy your recipes for the fur-babies. Will give these a try PS….your guys are so adorable. I followed your link to “their” instagram. The “FTW” video was hilarious. You captained that perfectly…teehee
So so cute! I love that you even had a dog bone cookie cutter. Adorable!
Where can I get bone cutter
They are available on amazon.com.
I just purchased one from Michael’s this weekend, less than $1
These homemade dog treats look easy to make. So much better than processed dog treats. Your puppies seem to enjoy the dog treats! Thanks for sharing. Pinned to share.
The Preventive Vet says: The list of peanut and nut butters containing xylitol that we have uncovered has now grown to FIVE! We have reached out to all of them to discuss this dog hazard and to secure increased awareness on their product packaging and websites. We will continue to keep you updated with progress. Here are the five companies (in alphabetical order): (1) Go Nuts, Co., (2) Hank’s Protein Plus Peanut Butter, (3) Krush Nutrition, (4) Nuts ‘N More, and (5) P28.
I don’t know these brands but they are sold on-line and in grocery stores.
I only use Jif or Skippy and this is NOT listed on the jars. Read your labels before buying. I will be trying this recipe. Thanks!
I’ve never made homemade dog treats, but I definitely need to try them sometime! They look like a healthy, nutritious treat for your dog! Thanks for sharing! 😀
I love these! Definitely going to make them for my girls (fur-babies)! Your sweet pups are beautiful!! Always love seeing photos of them!
These look good but watch out for this ingredient. Xylitol, a sweetener used in many foods, including peanut butter, yogurt, toothpaste and chewing gum, is safe for humans but potentially deadly for dogs. If ingested, it can cause seizures, liver failure and death, warned one animal hospital, which called xylitol “extremely toxic” to dogs.
Very true, but we shouldn’t be giving these types of peanut butters to our dogs anyway! The Xylitol is added to replace the huge amounts of sugar that are usually in peanut butter. Natural peanut butter is a much better choice, for humans AND dogs. Peanuts should be the only ingredient :). Thanks for looking out for our pups!
Please read recent warnings re giving dogs peanut butter. It’s been in the national news: manufacturers are using a chemical sweetener called xylitol and its deadly for dogs.
I never use ready-made peanut butter from the grocery store, and neither should you. My local co-op has a peanut machine that makes peanut butter. This is real peanut butter and the only peanut butter I will serve my dogs.
Peter Pan does NOT contain it
Thanks for the heads up on peanut butter. I didn’t know that.
