Guys.
I really really really need this smoothie right now.
Because the croissants. The charcuterie boards. The steak frites. The calories are adding up.
So as soon as we land in the US, we’ll pick up Butters and detoxify the entire weekend with this.
With plenty of superfoods and greens, we will be set for 2018. Plus, the banana and apple adds just enough sweetness so you may not even need the honey.
But first things first.
I need to indulge in my last few chocolate croissants in Paris before we head home!
Green Detox Smoothie
Ingredients
- 2 cups baby spinach
- 2 cups baby kale
- 2 celery ribs, chopped
- 1 medium green apple, chopped
- 1 cup frozen sliced banana
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon honey
Instructions
- Combine spinach, kale, celery, apple, banana, almond milk, ginger, chia seeds and honey in blender until smooth.
- Serve immediately.

What type of blender do you recommend for these drinks?
Tastes good even without honey! The ingredients naturally compliment each other.
So refreshing! I was hesitant at first because I’m not a fan of celery but it definitely adds positively to this smoothie. I only had frozen spinach and kale, used 2 cups of milk as well.
Tip: Blend the spinach and kale first with the milk first before adding the rest of the ingredients
Great flavor. Didn’t have ginger so only thing I omitted. I do have a question about texture. Supposed to be a little chewy? Or did I blend incorrectly? Ended up doing the smoothie setting three times with the ninja blender. Chew kale bits. Might try blending kale first by itself next time. Let me know if you have other tips!
I put mine through a blender too (I don’t have a juicer) and afterwards I pushed through a colander using a spatula. That helped it be a little more liquidy and drinkable rather than chewy. Saved the leftover thick fiber bits for a spread or to be used later on. Hope that’s a helpful option?
I modified this recipe by adding a Gala apple, 1 cup of frozen pineapple, and omitted the banana and ginger. Used only 1 rib of celery. It was delicious!

Try adding a small portion of peeled and seeded cucumber to replace one stalk of celery, very refreshing.

This is my first time making a green smoothie and I will say the recipe is okay.. the taste of celery is very overpowering. I will try with only one celery rib and see how it tastes then. I also upped a lot on the honey.

This smoothie is really nice and considering I detest both kale and spinach, that really says something. Definitely recommend it.
What size cup do you consider a serving? I’ve made this smoothie that past two days. It’s really good! I just feel 1 serving on this smoothie is really nothing. I’ve blended all the ingredients and able to serve in a 12-16oz cup.Â

This green smoothie recipe deserves 5 stars for its ability to provide that needed boost of energy I’ve been wanting. I was looking for a detox green smoothie when I found this on the internet. The fist time I made it, it was incredibly sweet with added honey so I opted to leave that ingredient out the second time around. The apple and banana are sweet enough to flavor the smoothie. I plan to keep this recipe and use it again in the future. Thanks

Love this smoothie made it twice now, was sweet enough without the honey, second time just put one stick of celery in, which I find doesn’t over power it, delicious just had one for breakfast and lunch as I made the full recipe, will finish the rest off in the morning it was alright kept overnight, but wouldn’t want to keep it any longerÂ

Janet, you can enjoy a smoothie in the morning as a meal replacement (I find that this is the easiest way to include green smoothies in your day). If you wish, you can add another cup or two in the afternoon, when you usually have an energy slump. But please be mindful that this process varies for everyone, depending on a number of factors like your diet, stress load, and even mindset.
This is so good! I substituted 1% regular milk for the almond, and upped the honey just a bit. I quartered all the ingredients to make just one at a time- I am definitely going to make this a lot! (I will say that I do taste the celery but it isn’t a bad flavor- there are so many things going on in this smoothie and every sip is a different combi!)
Can I add lemon juice in it
Great recipe. I just got done making it. It was quick and helpful. . I just tried it and it’s definitely a taste you have to acquire, I guess anything that’s healthy you have to acquire a taste because it’s different. So I am trying it for the first time and I will be replacing two meals with this a day. ThanksÂ

I haven’t made the smoothie yet, but I’ve purchased all the ingredients. I realize this says serve immediately, but I work incredibly early in the mornings, so is this something I could make the night before and store in the fridge just overnight? I really don’t think my house would be happy with a blender going at 3am…

Would it be ok to add the chia seeds and to eat it immediately? I always knew that chia seeds must be eaten after they were left overnight in milk/yoghurt.
Sure! I always top off my oatmeal with chia seeds and consume immediately without any issues. 🙂

This was such a great recipe that tastes delicious! I realized when I started it I was out of kale and not enough almond milk to use so I substituted with water and used organic ground ginger which still worked fine and I have friends local that make their own honey!

I’m not a smoothie fan but it is one of my resolutions this year. Â I make this all the time and I love it. Â I make 4 servings at a time. Â I freeze 1 cup spinach, 1 cup kale, 1/2 Â chopped banana, 1/2 chopped green apple and 1/2 chopped rib celery in a zip lock baggie. Â Then when I’m ready to make I add milk, fresh grated ginger and honey. Â
So good and so easy if freeze most of ingredients ahead of time. Â
I leave out the chai.
Since excess servings cannot be saved or frozen for later, would it be possible for you to list out the recommended measurements for a single-serve blender (just one smoothie at a time)?
The recipe yields about 4 servings so you can reduce all the ingredients by 1/4th for a single serving. Hope that helps!

I was worried that the taste of the kale and celery would be too strong. I did not find that to be the case. I have made this twice and I enjoyed the smoothie both times. I replaced almond milk with unsweetened cashew milk w/ vanilla and I replaced the chia seeds with raw walnuts/almonds…because that was what I had on hand.
I have to let you know this, I’ve been making your detox green smoothie, and it’s amazing. Â No bad during nir after taste. Â I used everything in the recipe except the almond milk, I used water instead. Â Still yummy! Â Also, thank you so much for posting nutrition values as well. Â It truly helps. Â Keep warm.

I just made this and it is delicious. The tartness of the Apple is perfect and the sweetness of the banana makes it balanced. I was worried about the celery so I left it out, but I was worried about the kale too and I can’t taste it at all. I did add the juice from one lemon because I like things sour. Yummy. Nutritional values read 190 cal and 25g protein per serving, is that for 1 drink? Or the 4 servings this recipe makes?

Can it be frozen?
Once blended, the smoothies cannot be frozen. However, the ingredients can be frozen ahead of time.
