In a large bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Place an oven-proof 10 inch cast iron skillet in the oven.

In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, and butter. 

STEP 3

Pour mixture over dry ingredients and stir using a rubber spatula just until moist.

STEP 4

Remove the skillet from the oven and scoop the batter into the hot skillet. 

STEP 5

STEP 6

Place into oven and bake.

Serve warm.
