My husband and I are not real big fans of turkey, but roast one as a rule for Thanksgiving…and had a lot leftover. I am so glad I saw this recipe. We now want to roast ANOTHER turkey just to have these sandwiches on hand!! I would not change a thing about the recipe. It is perfect, and I have been sharing this recipe with all of my friends! Thank you!!
why i love this recipe
Crowd favorite. Buttery, toasted sliders loaded with all of the Thanksgiving fix-ins are sure to be a guaranteed party hit – perfect for holiday entertaining and feeding a crowd.
Great way to repurpose leftovers. This is a great recipe to use up some of the leftover turkey and cranberry sauce from Thanksgiving. Have some leftover mashed potatoes + gravy and stuffing too? Throw those right in! The best part? It doesn’t really taste like leftovers.
Made all year long. Even if leftovers are not accessible, these sliders can still be made and enjoyed any time of the year with store-bought deli meat and canned cranberry sauce.
leftover thanksgiving slider variations
Dinner rolls
Not a fan of Hawaiian rolls? Dinner rolls, homemade or store-bought, can always be used.
Ham
Ham is a great swap for the turkey.
Bacon
Adding bacon is always a good idea.
Mashed potatoes
Mashed potatoes with a little drizzle of gravy would add such creaminess to the sliders.
Heat
Pickled jalapeno slices or banana peppers can add a kick of heat.
Cheese
White cheddar, Swiss, gruyere or provolone would all work very well here.
Everything bagel seasoning
Swap out the poppy seeds for everything bagel seasoning blend.
tips and tricks for success
Use Hawaiian rolls. Hawaiian rolls are perfect for sliders – sweet, fluffy, melt in your mouth dinner rolls. Not to mention, they are perfectly bite-sized to feed a big gathering.
Use your favorite cheese. The recipe lists Havarti but Swiss or gouda are also great options.
Double the recipe. The sliders can easily be doubled or tripled, using a separate baking dish for each.
Make ahead of time. This is a great recipe to assemble ahead of time and placed in the fridge (up to 4 hours).
Cover with foil. If the tops of the dinner rolls are browning too fast, tent with aluminum foil as needed.
Absolutely! To make this without leftovers, deli turkey (or your favorite deli meat) can be used instead.
Can I add other leftovers?
Mashed potatoes and gravy as well as stuffing would be great additions.
Can you make this ahead of time?
Yes! The sliders can be assembled a few hours in advance and placed in the fridge. Brush the tops of the sliders with butter, sprinkling with poppy seeds, and bake right before serving.
How can I store leftovers?
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
