M&M Cookies in a Jar
These easy, budget-friendly jars make for the perfect holiday gift that everyone will love!
Thanksgiving is 1.5 weeks away and Christmas is right around the corner so the #SundaySupper team and I are bringing you holiday gifts from the kitchen. And what better way to say “Happy Holidays” than with a mason jar filled with all the ingredients to make homemade m&m cookies?
It takes just 10 minutes to make, they’re completely customizable and best of all, they’re so inexpensive! If you bake on a regular basis, you’ll have all the ingredients on hand. The only thing I had to buy was the seasonal m&m’s but feel free to use whatever type of candy or chocolate chips that you already have. I just wanted to go the more festive route which is why I chose the green and red m&m’s.
Then when you’re all done, tie a bow with a holiday tag and you are set. Now how easy was that? Plus, I’m sure the recipient of these jars will be thrilled about this gift. After all, how can anyone have a problem with homemade cookies, especially when all the hard work is done for you?!

Can I leave the m +ms out
How long do these last in the jar?
Can I substitute chocolate chips instead of the m +ms
Yes, of course!
I made these as favors for my daughters “Cooking class” Birthday party. I included as little spatula and and the directions. It really was adorable. And the cookies are quite tasty.
YUM!!! I found this recipe to use as a project for my sons 1st grade holiday party. Just baked them to make sure they were good, and they are fantastic! so simple, and delicious. The kids will be able to take them home to bake with their family on holiday break, or give as a gift!
Thank yoU!
Thank you! This cookie in a jar Christmas gift recipe is just what I was looking for! It tops up perfectly tight in the pint (16oz) mason jars! I layered it a bit differently to give it a more patterned and balanced ingredient look: 1/4 cup of flour at the bottom of the jar and the remaining 2/3 c of flour last, at the top, with the other ingredients layered in-between as listed. They are so beautiful! I wish I could post a pic! Thanks again!
I am planning a cookie exchange and think these will make a cute favor. They are the perect size for what I am looking for. Thanks!
Do you have a current template for the tag?
Not at this time. Sorry!
If we omit the oats, should we add more flour or other ingredient?
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications. Sorry, Hannah!
I’m a bit confused…this calls for using a pint sized jar…but the label on the packaging says the pint sized jars are 16 ounces, not 8 ounces. 1 1/2 cups of flour would more than fill an 8 ounce jar in and of itself. This recipe says to use pint sized, but one of the comments mentions that 8 ounce jars were used. I’m planning to go ahead with pint sized and forget the ounces…
I’m confused about this as well and waiting for the reply…..
I’m sure these jars are pint size. The reference to 8 oz must be a mistake. There are 16 oz in a pint.
The recipe calls for pint-sized jars, which is equivalent to 16 ounces.
how many cookies does this make?
The size of cookies can vary depending on the amount of batter used for each.
I only have quart jars. How much do I increase it to fit into those jars
You may need to multiply the recipe by 1.5 or 2 as you see fit.
Easy, yummy and cute. I made a test batch and had to decrease the cooking time to 10-11 minutes. Maybe I made the cookies smaller than intended, but they are good and will make great gifts for my coworkers.
Do you have a template for the cute tags on the jars? Do you print the recipe on the tag as well?
Printing the recipe is really up to you! As for the template, I randomly found one online. There are a lot of free templates available!
If you go to this web address there is a link about 1/3 of the page down to open up the page for printing up the cute tags you are talking about. http://www.recipelion.com/Cookies/10-Minute-Holiday-Cookies-in-a-Jar
Thank you for this recipe! I made these M&M cookie jars for our neighbours & teachers this year and they do look gorgeous, if I do say so myself. They tasted great in my test batch too. As a tip, I used the end of a turkey baster to pat down each level; it worked really well and helped keep each layer in place.
I’ve see a lot of this same recipe other websites also. Just wondering what the purpose of the oats is? Since it’s not an oatmeal cookie, do these taste good with the oats? Is it something I can just leave out? Thanks
The oats provide a little bit of bite into the cookies. I think it gives the cookies a little pizzazz but feel free to omit to your tasting.
8-ounce is how much in ml..do you maybe know?
There’s about 30 mL in 1 ounce. Hope that helps!
8 oz. is the same as 250 ml
Do you know what the shelf life is of the mason jar with the ingredients inside?
I would say 1-2 months, although I’ve had it longer and it was just fine!
Is it 1/2 cup of oats or 1 cup of oats? The printer friendly version says 1 cup but your website says 1/2. 🙂
Please use 1/2 cup oats.
Hey
Just wondering what size mason jars you used?
I used 16-ounce mason jars.
A pint size jar.
