Super Bowl Turkey Chili
This bowl of chili is incredibly cozy and comforting, and so perfect for game day!
Did you guys hear about the chicken wing shortage? I saw the headlines for it on the tv at the gym but I thought it was a hoax! I mean, really, a chicken wing shortage before the Super Bowl? And bandits stealing about 65,000 wings?! Wow.
So with that said, I bring you a Super Bowl party food that doesn’t involve any chicken wings. But it does have ground turkey, premium lager, tons of veggies and three kinds of beans. You also can’t forget about the garnishes – cheese, Greek yogurt and fresh avocado slices.
So there you have it – a hearty, Super Bowl party food that ensures your daily serving of vegetables. Who needs chicken wings anyway?
Super Bowl Turkey Chili
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 large bell peppers, diced
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 3 carrots, diced
- 10 ounces mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1 ½ teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 ½ cups beer
- 2 (14.5-ounce) cans diced fire roasted tomatoes
- 1 (15-ounce) can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 (15-ounce) can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium high heat. Add garlic, bell peppers, onion, carrots, and mushrooms. Cook, stirring frequently, until carrots begin to soften, about 8-10 minutes.
- Stir in cumin, chili powder and oregano; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Add ground turkey and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the beef as it cooks.
- Stir in beer and reduce heat to low; simmer, covered, until slightly thickened, about 15 minutes. Stir in tomatoes and beans and simmer until thickened, an additional 15-20 minutes.
- Serve immediately.

This was fantastic. I used my food processor to chop up the veggies to hide them from the kiddies. It turned out great with so much flavor! We loved it, and I’ll be making this again!
This has become a staple in our house and I legit want to do it weekly as meal prep for the week, so yummy, easy and healthy!
Wow so delicious and simple! Definitely a repeat recipe, I think next time I’ll roast and add some poblano.
This was delicious. Made it for the super bowl last night to accompany the non healthy items we were going to consume! The chili was easy to make, packed with veggies and low fat protein, and the beer gives it a delicious smell and flavor! Definitely making again! I had leftovers again for lunch today and it was awesome.
slow cooker version?
What a great idea! But unfortunately, without having tried this myself, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment when making substitutions and modifications.
Any substitute for beer? My father can’t drink alcohol, but I’d love to make this chili for him!
You can substitute vegetable stock. 🙂
I’m not the most experienced cook and this was a mega hit for our Christmas party last weekend! I wanted to try something different and this was the perfect choice! I love all of the veggies! I did tweak the recipe a bit. I used a stout instead of a lager to add a richer flavor. I also added one fresh jalapeno and combined it with the garlic and bell peppers in the food processor (I didn’t want the veggies to be too chunky). I also shredded the carrots to make sure they cooked all the way through. With this recipe, I didn’t feel like I was making chili until the ground turkey was browned and the beer was added, but just trust the process, it will end up like chili! With the final steps, I ended up adding an extra can of tomatoes and three tablespoons of tomato paste (we like chili tomatoey). I will definitely be making this again, yum!
Just like someone else had commented, I don’t think I’ve made a chilli recipe twice, but THIS will be my go to chilli recipe. It was close to perfect. Thanks!
Made this last night, my boyfriend loved it. Me? It was good, but not what I was expecting. I would use a cup of lager rather than a cup and a half. If you like a little bit more spicy I’d suggest adding a spicy pepper of your choice. Other than it being thinner than what I like for chili, the flavors were nice and the smell of my house was amazing!

Making this tonight! I don’t think I’ve ever made the same chili twice – part of the beauty of chili, I think!
