A copycat recipe that you can easily make right at home in just 20 minutes. And it tastes a million times better too!
I am such a sucker for lettuce wraps. They are so low in carbs so I become a bottomless pit, stuffing my face without any kind of guilt. And when it’s an exact PF Chang’s replica that can be made in 20 minutes or less – well, that just means I’m having this 5 times a week.
I kid you not. This is the easiest, quickest meal you could ever make. And if you’re quick in the kitchen, you could even get this on the dinner table in less than 15 minutes. Plus, it’s budget-friendly and you can easily double or triple the recipe as needed. What more could you ask for?
PF Chang's Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, diced
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha, optional
- 1 (8-ounce) can whole water chestnuts, drained and diced
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 head butter lettuce
Equipment
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the chicken as it cooks; drain excess fat.
- Stir in garlic, onion, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ginger and Sriracha until onions have become translucent, about 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in chestnuts and green onions until tender, about 1-2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- To serve, spoon several tablespoons of the chicken mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf, taco-style.

I just made this for dinner. AMAZING!! I was a little scared of the Siracha as I do NOT like hot food, but if just gives it a little flavor and minimal to no heat. My husband loved it, too. So easy and super fast. We were eating within 20 minutes of me walking in the door from work. Will be making this again soon. Thank you for sharing!
I made this tonight and it was fantastic. Didn’t have ground chicken so I subbed ground turkey and added some fresh cremini mushrooms. Can’t say enough good things about the rich flavor. Outstanding dish!
Made these tonight and they were delicious! Your photos of the wraps looked similar to one of my favorite dishes at a local tapas restaurant, so naturally I had to try them. They were even tastier and the whole batch was cheaper than the $15 dish from the restaurant! Awesome recipe!(:
I have been craving lettuce wraps and was a little nervous to make these because I was worried my husband wouldn’t like them (he is not a “leaf eater”) HE LOVED IT!!! HE said it’s now one of his favorite dishes I have made. I used romaine lettuce leaves because I had it on hand and it was delish!!! Served with a healthier version of fried rice. Kids even loved it!!
Phenomenal recipe!!! Thank you! My family plowed through it! Keep them coming!
Silly question, would it taste good if I use ground beef instead of chicken?
You can certainly substitute ground beef but I cannot speak for how much this will change the overall taste/texture of the dish.
I tried making these yesterday and they were delicious! Being Indian, I found that adding a little sriracha to the lettuce before adding the chicken was highly suitable to my palate 🙂
These look Amazing and soo simple! What kind of sauce would you recommend to top these off? I love the 3 sauces PF Chang’s serve with theirs…. maybe a peanut sauce but what about a spicy sauce? Thanks in advance!
These wraps have so much flavor, a dipping sauce is not even needed!
I made these tonight, hoping my purchase of hoisin and sriracha wasn’t for naught. These were fantastic. I can’t speak for the similarities to P.F. Chang’s but I’m making these again soon. Even my 2 year old, who’s going through chemo treatments, enjoyed his “lettuce tacos” and he eats nothing!
I did use just 1/2 an onion and doubled the sriracha
Hi Jamie….I just read your post and pray your little guy is doing well. Old post but caught my eye and heart.
OMG! Absolutely amazing! I just made a few tiny changes. I only used about 1/4 of a large onion. I thought one onion would be too much with the green onion also in there. I also didn’t have any Sriracha in the house. So, I substituted some Roasted Red Chili paste that I had (about 3/4 tsp). Then, my last little touch was to add in some thin carrot strips at the the same time I was adding the green onion and the water chestnuts. The carrots added color & crunch & tasted delicious with all of the sauce ingredients. My husband gobbled everything up. No leftovers tonight!!!
I was craving the Pei Weu lettuce wraps, but had no $ in the budget for take out. I’m so glad I found your recipe! These were delicious, and we’ll never have to do take out for lettuce wraps again.
I agree about the Pei Wei version of these – whenever I have to fly through Las Vegas, I make a point of getting an order of this to go – this saves me from having to cook or forage for someplace to eat once I finally get to me destination. Haven’t confirmed it, but I’m under the impression that PF Chang’s and Pei Wei share a corporate parent somehow…
In any case, I’m thrilled to be able to have a homemade version of this dish, instead of waiting for my next pass through an airport (the only place I ever seem to see a Pei Wei, tbh)!
I made this for the family tonight and it was a huge hit. My husband ate 10 of them and it still fed a family of four with a couple left for lunch. A great recipe to stretch a dollar and it tastes amazing. I’ve never been to PF Changs and don’t think I need to now!
I have tried several lettuce wrap copycat recipes and we didn’t like any of them. This is my second time making these for my family. We love them and look forward to trying your other takeout recipes.
Easy, quick meal loved by even my youngest, pickiest eater. Yummy!!!!!!!
Made these for dinner and they were banging! Definitely tasted like PF Changs if not better 🙂 It was easy to make too-will make again.
I made these last night for a group of girlfriends and it was a hit! It’s such a fun dish to entertain with. I wouldn’t change a thing to it. I served it with a side of stir-fried vegetables with just sesame oil and soy sauce. So simple and easy! I think they were even better than PF Chang’s original chicken lettuce wraps. Thanks for posting the recipe! Loved it!
I cook a lot and we rarely eat out. That being said…I NEVER comment about any recipe! After my hubby and I finished dinner tonight I knew that I had to! I made a double recipe and we are eating it again tomorrow and I HATE leftovers! I did adjust a few things.
1. I cooked my meat separate
2. I used peanut oil and olive oil
3. I let it all sit in the oven on warm while the hubby and I took the family on a run….(allowed the flavors to come together and cook down)
Haven’t had PF Chang’s in years. All that I know is that this was super easy and very fast! This will be going in our families rotation! So glad that I stumbled upon this site.
I never comment on recipes but had to come in to say this is an amazing and easy recipe and tasted even better than PF Chang’s. It would be so easy to double or triple it and I made a side of rice that we ate it with for leftovers. Super inexpensive and tasted just as good reheated. Love it!
I was curious, have you tried it with tofu? I love the tofu version PF Chang’s makes and would love to experiment. Just thought I’d ask before I tried it. I’m a vegetarian so I don’t know what the chicken tastes like. But I’m hoping similar.
Unfortunately, I have not tried this with tofu.
Just finished dinner of these awesome wraps. Used ground chuck, because it’s what I had. They were delicious. I make my own hoisin and it was great in this dish! Thanks for your hard work!
How do you make your Hoisan sauce? I would love some recipes on that as it was hard to find any type of Hoisan where we live.
Here’s an easy hoisin recipe that I use. I blend it up afterwards otherwise it’s too thin. http://www.grouprecipes.com/47010/homemade-hoisin-sauce.html
