Thai Salmon in Foil
The flavors are sealed right into a foil packet with no clean up! The salmon comes out so tender/juicy. Sure to be a family favorite!
It’s crazy.
I was never a fan of Thai food until 3 years ago.
Really.
I think it was the smell of fish sauce. I couldn’t stand to be near it.
I still can’t stand to be around it – except when it’s added to Thai-inspired dishes, the flavors are AH-MAZING.
Or can I say, the flavors are “lit”?
A few of my friends were discussing the definition of “lit” last night, and we came to the conclusion that it meant “crazy good”.
Is that right you guys?
Because after that, we were basically sending each other snaps, being in bed at 9:00PM, or dancing to Spice Girls in front of our dog and cat with the caption: Our Saturday night is lit.
So basically. what I’m trying to say here is this:
This salmon is legit lit. With no clean up.
Boom.

Thai Salmon in Foil
Ingredients
- ½ cup sweet chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 teaspoon Sriracha, optional
- 2 pounds salmon
- ¼ cup peanuts, chopped
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil.
- To make the sauce, whisk together chili sauce, soy sauce, garlic, fish sauce, ginger, lime juice and Sriracha in a small bowl; set aside.
- Place salmon onto prepared baking sheet and fold up all 4 sides of the foil. Spoon the chili sauce mixture over the salmon. Fold the sides of the foil over the salmon, covering completely and sealing the packet closed.
- Place into oven and bake until cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.
- Serve immediately, garnished with peanuts and cilantro, if desired.

hey Chungah, you did this tonight… I have to say this is the “how to make your family happy” class. It may sound funny but I served it with Pad Thai, no meat or shrimp, I mean…just with vegetables and Pad Thai Tamarind sauce.
Thanks, he was in!
This dish was absolutely delicious! It was so full of flavor. The entire family loved it! I will definitely add this to my favorite recipe list.
Really tasty, light and easy to prepare !!
Had this tonight with skin on salmon portions. Added a few slices of red onion on top before wrapping in aluminium foil and half submerging in a water bath in the oven at 200*C for 30 mins. Serve on bed of rice with juices over top and a garden salad with sweet Thai salad dressing. Wonderful.
Soooo good! Definitely making this again
My wife and son can’t get enough of this salmon. So easy to make and easy to clean up.
Simple, easy and perfect!
This is now my favorite salmon recipe.
Thank you soooo much!
Really tasty, light and easy to prepare… even foe a novice.
I followed this recipe exactly and it came out perfect. Super delicious. I will definitely make this one again!
This was delicious! Only thing I changed was I added 1 tsp of lemongrass paste and I didn’t use the peanuts or cilantro. I made some jasmine rice on the side. I’ve printed it 🙂
This was very yummy. We had it with calrose rice and green beans. So easy and amazing. ❤️
Amazing recipe.. you cannot go wrong with this. Very impressive at a dinner party too. Thank you
Let me just say how delicious and easy this recipe is. I was looking for a recipe for a recent camping trip – you know easy foil packet recipe. I prepared everything prior to leaving and assembled the packets in the RV. We put the sealed packets on the BBQ and about 20 minutes later we enjoyed the best camping meal ever! We accompanied the meal with a Thai salad. This recipe is a keeper for sure.
I have been using recipes from your site the last couple of months, but this one I had to review because it is out of this world. I prepared just as written with the exception of the peanuts at the end. I eat a lot of salmon, have tried numerous methods of preparation, and I feel this is the best. I can’t wait to prepare this for guests.
Thanks for this great recipe. I made this tonight with Pacific Sockeye filet. Delicious!
Baked for 20mins., broiled on high for 5 minutes made the sauce thicken, perfect w Jasmine rice. Add side Asian salad w citrus-ginger dressing, sliced ripe avocado. So yumm.
This was an excellent recipe! The salmon I had definitely took longer than 15 to 20 minutes (I think because I used multiple layers of foil – one piece of foil could not seal the salmon filets). Also, I highly recommend serving the salmon with spoonfuls of the sauce that pools around the salmon. The sauce is SO GOOD.
This is my go to salmon recipe! I’ve made it many times, both grilled and oven baked, and it always tastes damn delicious!
I made this today it was deelish… the indian in me addedd a dash of chilli powder … I also baked it a hit longer ..
Unbelievable – followed the recipe first time round but in my second attempt cut sweet chilli sauce by half, adding in the cilantro to the recipe AND marinated the salmon for 2hrs then baked. The latter of my attempts we preferred but you can be flexible with this recipe which is why it gets 5 stars from me.

We ate this with roasted broccoli and it was one of my favorite dinners in recent memory. Thank you!
Made this for dinner last night and everyone LOVED it! Incredibly flavorful and so easy to make.
Made this tonight and it was easy and delicious. A great way to serve lovely Scottish salmon.
Scott
Thanks, Scott!
This recipe really sucks!!!!!!Theres many better recipes out there that are worth the time and effort…Don’t waste your time here…
They can’t all be winners for everyone. Sorry this one in particular didn’t turn out for you, Dan.
Dan…. the only thing that sucks here is are your taste buds and your attitude!!!!
And thanks Jana for sharing your dish with us.
This recipes cook time is wrong. I used a pound of salmon for the same amount of time and it still wasn’t fully cooked. Salmon always seems to turn out best broiled
Stephen, sometimes an oven’s set temperature isn’t always equal to its actual temperature. I recommend utilizing an Leave-In Oven Thermometer for accuracy. Hope that helps!
I chose this recipe because it looked good in images but was disappointed to find that it doesn’t look anything like the picture. Your salmon looks like it was grilled while mine looks anemic and boiled. You must’ve broiled yours afterwards but did not say so in your recipe. It still tasted good but next I will bake or broil it.
Kristina, the recipe was cooked exactly as written. It was, however, topped with additional sauce and various garnishes for photographic purposes.
This was fabulous! I did not have sweet chili sauce but I did have chili garlic sauce, I added honey and chinese vinegar to make a sweet chili garlic sauce, followed the rest of the recipe – delish.. I also cooked the salmon only 10-12 minutes but we don’t like it too cooked. Again, delicious.. I served it with a quick stir fry using veggies left over in my produce drawer from the rest of the week – wonderful quick dinner and easy clean up as well – Marta – Sugar Land, TX.
So great to hear! Thank you, Marta!
I made this recipe last night and it was indeed damn delicious. This going in the permanent file. Easy guest dinner would be this, already cooked jasmine rice, and sunomono, Japanese cucumber shrimp salad. Your website is wonderful!!!!
We love hearing that, Lane! Thanks!
I am so glad I found your blog and found this recipe. I made it last night and it was a huge hit. In the future, I will save some of the sauce to use for dipping when serving.
Great idea Betsy!
I just made this tonight. Tasted just like the dish I get from my favorite Thai restaurant. I served it with a side of Jasmin rice and sautéed green beans with shallots. The whole family loved it, including my 3-year-old. Thank you!
This was amazing! I had it last night with the chopped peanuts and determined this will be a dish I will do over and over again!
This looks mouthwatering, so much so that I can almost taste it. Yum
This looks amazing but I wonder how to reduce that sodium figure? Even with low sodium soy sauce it’s incredibly high. Is it from the fish sauce or the chili sauce? Any suggestions on getting that down?
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
Can I use frozen salmon?
I recommend letting it thaw prior to using.
Made it last night. It was great! We liked it so much I’m making it again tonight.
Thanks so much for the easy and so tasty recipe ! Will make it over and over
(maybe tomorrow night too 🙂 )
Can’t wait to give this a try. Just Got back from Thailand and I’m really missing the flavors there, plus I’ve been trying to eat healthier now that vacation is over, so salmon is perfect! Thank you!

What are some good side dishes for this main course? Would you eat with rice? Just btw, your recipes are AMAZING! cheddar bay biscuits come to mind. Mmmmm.
My absolute favorite side dish is the garlic parmesan roasted potatoes. But please feel free to check out all of my side dish recipes here.
I made this for dinner tonight and it was amazing. I also did a packet of large shrimp at the same time and had a hard time deciding which I liked more. Definitely a recipe that is going in my “favorite file” Thank you for sharing!
Would any other kind of fish be a good substitute? We live in Kansas and any kind of good fish is hard find or is really expensive. How about frozen?
Yes, you can substitute other fish but cooking time may have to be adjusted accordingly. I also recommend using thawed fish, not frozen.
This might be a stupid question, but do you leave the skin on or off the salmon?
That’s completely up to you!
Love your recipes !! I always have trouble coming up with sides for them. Would love if you suggested sides.
My absolute favorite side dish is the garlic parmesan roasted potatoes. But please feel free to check out all of my side dish recipes here.

We loved this recipe! My seven year old daughter had thirds and declared this is the best way she has eaten salmon ever! Props to you Chungah – your recipes always seem to work. I used Viet Huong Fish Sauce for this one. It a product from Hong Kong.

Assist have to make time to give credit to this wonderful delicious worth making recipe! Another new recipe to be added in my list.
Top some that it may helpful though, I happened to ran out of chili sauce so I subsitiuted it with chili powder instead. It still worked wonders!
Thanks
When I grow up, I want to cook like you and be s creative. Since I have children and grands, probably older than you, I don’t think that will happen. Love your work though. Always delicious.
Asked before but must have got lost in cyberspace!!! ???? Hate that.
I want to put this atop a SALAD. What kind of dressing would compliment this thai salmon do you think? Am thinking about some mixed greens–maybe some pine nuts– not sure about a cheese– and then need to dress the greens with something. Don’t want it to ‘collide’ with the thai sauce in the salmon. Hints??????? Thanks!
What a great idea! I’m thinking you can even go with a Thai-inspired dressing mixed with lime juice, brown sugar, fish sauce, etc. Hope that helps!
To Lynne,
I’d like to suggest some bean sprouts! Thai dishes have lots of bean sprouts and goes we’ll it’s nuts, coriander as well. I topped mine with fresh chopped tomatoes and coriander! ! It was heaven!
Salmon is the most healthy food ever. Hey Chungah1 The way you have cooked the salmon is very simple. So, evryone can make this recipe easily.
Though I am a junior cook and started learning cooking, I am glad to say thank you very much. 🙂
Great simple recipe. Love a well cooked piece of salmon (:
I’m considering making this. Is sweet chili sauce the same as chili garlic sauce?
And I need a substitution for the fish sauce. Some people say anchovies, some say Worcestershire sauce, some say soy sauce and vege chicken broth. Which works best here?
Thanks so much, We are enjoying our recipes very much.
Greetings from Simi Valley, CA. (I’m waving south to you,LOL)
Sweet chili sauce is actually not the same as chili garlic sauce.
You can use any of the above-mentioned substitutes – it’s really up to you and what you have on hand.
Really great piece of recipe my mouth is watering just to see them.
What is “sweet Chilli sauce?” Is there a brand or name for it? Thanks. Love your recipes. Beautiful. I’m always pinning them.
Sweet chili sauce is a popular Thai condiment. I prefer to use Mae Ploy Sweet Chilli Sauce.
What a mouthwatering recipes. I am going to try it now.
Thanks.
Hmm . . . is there a recipe for the sweet chili sauce so those on Keto can replace with sugar substitute? Looks delicious!
Hi Sue – I believe there are many DIY recipes available online. Hope that helps!
Hi Chungah,
Thai food is one of my favorites and this Salmon looks really delicious.
Love how easy it is to make and NO clean up!! 😀
Thanks for the recipe.
Have a great weekend! 🙂
Amy
What if I just want two servings instead of four? Just cut the ingredient amounts in half?
Yes, that’s exactly right.
Hi! This recipe looks delicious. What brand fish sauce did you use?
I used Thai Kitchen Premium Fish Sauce.
Can’t wait to try your delicious recipes!!
Do you think this could be cooked on the grill? It’s going to be hot next week, so trying not to heat up the house.
Yes, absolutely.
Thanks, Trudi, I had the same question. Wonder if it would take the swame ammount of time. Btw, thanks for the recipe, Chungah. Can’t wait to make this!
