Lemon Dill Salmon in Foil
Seriously dead-simple salmon cooked right in foil! 10 minutes prep. No clean-up! And you know lemon-dill flavors are THE BEST!
Greetings from Palm Springs!
We took a mini getaway to 109 degree weather for a little bit of R&R, except I’m the only one up at 6AM while everyone is sleeping in.
So that’s why I’m sharing my newest salmon in foil recipe.
Because I’m waiting for the rest of the peeps to wake up.
No, but really, I just had to share this ASAP as you know I love a good foil recipe.
It’s dead-simple with pretty much zero clean-up.
You know the deal.
Serve in the foil, and you’re set. Plus, you know you can’t go wrong with lemon and dill!
Lemon Dill Salmon in Foil
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried dill, or more, to taste
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 pounds salmon
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil.
- In a small bowl, whisk together butter, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic, dill, salt and pepper, to taste.
- Place salmon onto prepared baking sheet and fold up all 4 sides of the foil. Spoon the butter mixture over the salmon. Fold the sides of the foil over the salmon, covering completely and sealing the packet closed.
- Place into oven and bake until cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.
- Serve immediately, garnished with dill, if desired.

We have made this twice and have really enjoyed it. However, although I am a big fan of fresh dill, for this recipe I thought it perhaps added a bit of visual appeal to the plate but not necessarily improving the flavor while driving up the overall cost.
Hi Chungah!
I can’t wait to make this recipe!! I was just wondering if you keep the skin on the bottom side of your salmon or if you get skinless?
Thanks
You can choose either option, Nicole – it all depends on personal preference!
Great thanks! Sorry for making you answer twice; I somehow missed that that was the identical post right above mine lol.
Just wondering, do you leave the skin on? I am looking forward to trying this recipe.
Thanks,
Kelly
You can leave the skin on or off – it’s up to personal preference!
Can’t wait to make this. It looks so delicious. I love lemon and dill together, but I’ve never used it on salmon. How long have you been making this recipe? Thank you for sharing!
We make it all the time!
I made this today. Tastes amazing!
Excellent! We had this for Mother’s Day dinner tonight. I followed the recipe as-is, except that I substituted olive oil for butter. This was perfectly cooked and received high compliments from everyone. I think that the mix of dry dill and fresh gives a more intense and nuanced dill flavor — a big plus for a dill lover like me. Many thanks!
This was fantastic!! now when I ask my 4 year old what she wants for dinner, she says, “hm, how bout salmon?” love it!! thanks for sharing!!
Made this tonight – very easy and delicious. Instead of using dried dill, I just increased the fresh dill to 3 tablespoons. Just out of curiosity, was there a reason you mixed it? Paired it with rice cooked in low-sodium vegetable stock and steamed green beans. Thanks for sharing this great recipe.
As if it didn’t sound like a great dish, your pictures make this look incredible. It’s 9 in the morning, and I am thinking about making a salmon dinner dish now!
It is looking really damn yummy.
I will surely try it.
Thank you
Did you do the tram experience? I hope u had fun
Not yet – we are hoping to go today! 🙂
Did you use a torch to broil the lemons in the picture? Otherwise, they would not brown if wrapped in foil.
The lemon slices were pan-seared for photographic purposes.
Ok, that explains why my lemon slices didn’t get that same look!
Yumm, salmon is my favorite. Love the simple, classic you got with the fish. Definitely want to try this recipe for a simple dinner one night (:
OMG Chungah, this looks sooooo yummy. I enjoy your recipes.
I love the foil recipes!
Hi Chungah,
Hope you’re having a great time in Palm Springs! 🙂
We enjoy making foil recipes, especially on busy weeknights.
Thanks for the easy salmon recipe!
Amy
Hi Chungah looking forward to trying this recipe as I’m a big fan of baking fish in foil. Still trying to keep the summer heat out of the kitchen so I’m going to use the grill. Would you use indirect heat on the grill with the same temp?
You can place the salmon on the grill, covered, over medium heat for about 15-18 minutes, rotating the packet halfway, until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
