Slow Cooker Sweet Potato Casserole - That ooey gooey marshmallow topping!!!! All made in a crockpot. So easy without taking any oven space. Double win!

Thanksgiving is in T-minus 48 hours.

Ummmmm, so how did we get here so quickly?

I thought we had another week or so.

And I’m not a last minute planner. At all.

I make lists.

Lots of them.

Months in advance, really.

Except this Thanksgiving really crept up on me.

Thank goodness I have this slow cooker though.

Between the scalloped potatoes and creamed spinach, I may not have to use the oven at all.

Plus, the marshmallows.

You always need marshmallows for Thanksgiving.

There’s no argument here.

You just do.

Now they will melt beautifully in the slow cooker from the residual heat.

BUT!

You know. I always love to pop this under a broiler for color.

Or a blow torch.

You pick.

this ones a keeper. I made this for Thanksgiving. I used a whole stick of butter because a half didnt seem like enough and little more brown sugar, kept everything else the same. Got many compliments and its just so easy you can’t beat this for taste and if you use a crock pot liner the cleanup ease alone is enough to make this this was to go when having this side dish. absolutely is going to be a staple for our thanksgivings to come. THANK YOU

  2. Would this recipe work in a 6 qt slow cooker, as written, or would that require doubling the ingredients?

Looks delicious. Have you doubled this recipe? If so would you just cook longer???

This was my choice recipe after searching for one I wanted to try. I just finished preparing it and crockpot hot. Looking forward to eating it with my family this evening. Thank you!

I am making this either tonight or tomorrow for thanksgiving for family. I am also adding pecans before the marshmallows. Just another idea for you guys as well.

This would be the perfect side dish to make for thanksgiving. Its a warm dish so it would be good for that warm fall feeling. I would like to make this for freinds and family!

  7. Could I make this is the crockpot for the most part but then transfer into a baking dish and top with marshmallows to get that toasty color?

  8. Should I adjust anything if I’m using canned (yams) sweet potatoes?

I don’t normally write reviews but this was such a hit at my work’s Thanksgiving potluck today! I added some pecans and substituted the all spice with pumpkin pie seasoning as I didn’t have all spice and it was delicious. It was wiped out as people went back for seconds. I had a few coworkers come ask me for the recipe too. I will definitely be making these for my own Thanksgiving dinner. The best part is it’s quick and easy and who doesn’t love the crock pot?

Looks perfect for my work Thanksgiving potluck, to make fresh there.  However, there’s some steps with the potatoes that are left out. For a first-timer, I need everything.

Do I peel, cube, boiled, or do anything to the potatoes beforehand?
Do I mash them when they’re done? Help.

  11. Made this for thanksgiving and it was awesome! Going to make it tomorrow for Christmas. Thanks for sharing!!!!

  12. Hi.. I am making this right now. How did you get marshmallows toasted?

  13. Do you think this recipe could be doubled in a larger (6 qt) crockpot?

  14. What’s the serving size for this recipe?

  15. Are you supposed to boil the sweet potatoes first?

  16. Can I mash the sweet potatoes or do you recommend just dicing?

  17. I would like to leave off the marshmallows. Any problem with that?

  18. This looks so good and I’m really loving all the slow cooker recipes. Happy Thanksgiving to you

  19. Happy Thanksgiving to you This looks so good and I’m really loving all the slow cooker recipes.

  20. YUM!!! I made the potatoes the night before and then set them on warm today. I won’t lie – the butter/brown sugar/spice mixture was so good. I bet it would make a great crumble topping for some type of fall dessert. I had to add a little bit more butter and some salt as well this morning because the potatoes dried out a little overnight. Otherwise, this was a HUGE hit. I did transfer the potatoes to a Pyrex and let the marshmallows broil. Perfect. Thanks so much for an easy and delicious recipe!

  21. Made this today, not in the crock pot. Delicious and easy. Thank you for sharing!

  22. Making this right now – thanks for the recipe! Not sure I will remember to come back when I’m fat and happy from Thanksgiving, but I’m sure its perfect (smells like it at least). 🙂 <3

  23. Can you put the ceramic crock under the broiler to brown the marshmallows?

  24. This looks so good and I’m really loving all the slow cooker recipes. Happy Thanksgiving to you 🙂

  25. What about using canned sweet potatoes? How much time reduction is needed?

    • Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.

  26. This is a perfect dessert! I love sweet potatoes, and often made mashed sweet potatoes. I have to try this next!

  27. I want to throw this bad boy in the oven instead of a slow cooker. What would the oven temp. and duration be for this recipe instead?

  28. Mmmm…

It would be nice to have this without the marshmallows, for us VeggieHeads.  I’ve tried the vegan ones from the vegan store online, but they are either sold out, or really stale.

Any suggestions? I love, love Thanksgiving dinner, but it’s challenging to find delicious substitutes for some things…

  29. With Thanksgiving around the corner, this is a perfect dessert! I love sweet potatoes, and often made mashed sweet potatoes. I have to try this next!
