Peanut Butter Pupcakes
Treat your pup with these dog-friendly cupcakes filled with pumpkin, applesauce and carrots topped with a peanut butter frosting!
Pupcakes!!!!!
I know.
These look dangerously human-friendly, no?
I mean, if it wasn’t for the Milk Bone garnish, you would never know.
My friend almost took a bite.
Until she saw the bone.
So I had to leave a note by the cupcakes.
A big giant sign.
“NOT FOR HUMANS” it said.
But Butters knew what was up.
He patiently did a pose.
Then devoured.
No wait.
I don’t even think I saw him chew.

If using mini cupcake pans how long should I cook them for? Our pups are under 10 lbs and I think a reg sized cupcake might be too much. Also can you freeze the batter?
I made these for my Goldens 14th birthday. She loved them. She gulped it down in one bite. I will make them for all our pups birthday. So easy.
I have a picky eater, but she loved this. I did make one change to the icing. Instead of cream cheese, I pureed 1 banana and mixed the peanut butter with it.
Our dogs love them I would love to make them for dog birthday parties
The only one who listened the amount of ingredients to use thanks gave u 5 stars.
So….I doubled the recipe to make a dozen for my dog to share with her friends on her birthday. I made 2 dozen regular sized muffins with the cups full. They were a big hit, but I definitely could have made 10-12 from one batch. Frosting also made a big batch. Thankfully I made that second so I started with the original size and checking before doubling.
It looks wonderful and my dog will in joy the treat for thanksgiving
My dogs love these- they demolished them!
My husky loved this. I baked in an 8inch springform tin for 25 mins in a 150 fan oven. Came out perfect. I subbed mashed banana for pumpkin as that costs a small fortune in the uk. Loved this recipe even more as all ingredients were already in the cupboard/fridge. Awesome recipe
Hey looks amazing! how long do these last please!
My dogs devoured these. I used mini muffin tins and decorated the tops of half with shredded carrot “confetti” on top of the frosting. If you do use minis, I suggest chopping the shredded carrots a bit so they don’t stick up and burn.
Great recipe.
I threw a birthday party for two Frenchies we were boarding, they loved the pupcakes so much! Fairly easy recipe to follow, and frosting is a great consistency!
Made them with slight differences, they turned out great, but my frosting didn’t look like yours hastagged you in my insta post, thank you for sharing xx
i haven’t made these for my 15 year old dog yet. His half bday is today so i wanted to make these. Also could i not use punpkin puree?
I made these for my puppy’s 1st birthday. Beautiful moist healthy cakes. I omitted the oats as I didn’t have any. I made fresh pumpkin purée as it’s hard to find ready made in Oz. I only used one carrot as it seemed to be enough. They came out perfect and my puppy loved it. Thanks for sharing the recipe
I made these and my dog really liked them. But when i made them, it made enough for 8. I also had Extra icing and i put it in a kong. My puppy loved it.
Can I use banana instead of pumpkin purée?
Can’t wait to make these for a friend’s dog! Do you think I could tint the frosting yellow? Would it turn out decently?
These are too cute! How does the frosting hold up? Does it slightly harden similar to buttercream? I’d likve to mail these to friends and family, so I need to know if they’d survive the trip.
This frosting is made with cream cheese and would need to be kept at 40 degrees for any length of time.
It was Cooper’s 5th birthday today. I wanted something homemade so I knew that it was healthy. Cooper was kind enough to allow me to make one for his brother as well. They were so patient as I took pictures but once we gave the word, the pupcakes didn’t stand a chance. They devoured them. I will definitely be making these again. I did cut the frosting recipe in half as I didn’t want to overfrost, although it was their favorite part. The frosting was the first to go. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe.
My pup turned 1 today, and I baked her a cake from a recipe I came up with, but I had no clue what to put in the frosting, and you were my go-to! She devoured it in 2 seconds, and then slept for the rest of the night. Success!
I made a cake for my dog’s first birthday using a recipe I came up with, but I had no idea what to put in the icing, so I looked to you for super mario bros advice. She ate it in two seconds flat and went to sleep for the rest of the night. Success!
Hey looks amazing! how long do these last please
What’s the best kind of baking silicone pan to use for these?
My dog girls and all the dogs at doggie daycare love these! I just tweek the recipe a little I switch out wheat flour for brown rice flour.
I don’t even think my dog chewed her cupcake — more like devoured it! Such a hit with my dog and her other furry friends. Easy recipe to follow.
amazing the recipe worked so well and easy charile loved them
I made these last September for our mini golden doodle 2nd birthday. They were a hit! Just pulled the recipe out to make them again for his 3rd birthday….making extra this year for all of his dog friend in the neighborhood. Thank you for this great recipe.
My pooches absolutely loves these. Was wondering how long they keep for?
Made these for our girls first bday, they loved them!! Very easy to make, have already made more, shared with neighbors dog and he loved them!!!
Made them for our grandpups and they loved them. Only thing is the paper lining was difficult to take off; any suggestions to stop this from happening.
I followed the recipe exactly. The Pupcakes turned out fantastic. My dogs loved them!
Good but how long do you bake these for?
SEE INSTRUCTION #3. ” Scoop the batter evenly into the muffin tray. Place into oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a tester inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack before frosting. “
Made this for my pups’ birthday. Huge hit! Super easy and super cute! Will make it again!
So easy, cute and the doggos love them 😛
I’m adopting a greyhound tomorrow and today was his birthday so I wanted to make him a special treat. I only had chunky peanut butter so the frosting was a little thick. I added a tiny pit of water and maple syrup and it did the trick. These came out perfect!! Thank you!!
Do I need pumpkin, if so what can I use to replace it other than bananas
Made these for my mini Poodle’s first birthday. She can be picky so I wasn’t sure what her reaction was going to be, but she gobbled it up! I made mini cupcakes instead because a full-sized cupcake would be like a meal to her and got 20 cupcakes. Will definitely save this recipe for the future!
I made these for my pup’s birthday and they were a huge hit. SO easy to make and I love being able to know exactly what’s in the food I’m giving to my dog. The recipe says it makes 6 pupcakes but it actually makes 12, the video also shows 12. I doubled the recipe because I wanted 12 but ended up with 24, luckily they seem like they will be easy to freeze!
I made 6 from this recipe. They were pretty big – shaped like muffins with a domed top.
I was wondering if I don’t have to use applesauce?
How many pupcakes will this make.
It says 6.
Do you need to keep theses if a fridge
Yes, because of the cream cheese, they would need to be kept in the fridge or, even, the freezer for later use.
4 ounces seems like a lot for the cream cheese. Is there any way I can maybe do 2 ounces instead?
Absolutely ADORABLE! I made them for my girl Addison! They turned out perfectly! She thought that they were DELICIOUS!! Thank you for the recipe!
Laurie
Update: OMG, Lexi and Toby loved them! Lexi literally licked the plate clean. We froze the other 4 and Lexi kept pacing in front of the freezer looking for more.
Made these for my doggos first birthday.. batter was a hit and the pupcakes are awesome. Turned out super cute with heart shaped dog cookies on top. thank you for the great recipe!
This recipe is awesome my dogs loved it mine did take a lot longer than the recipe said but still looked and smelt amazing my doggie gobbled them up and had a great birthday ten out of ten would bake again
I just made these for my goldendoodle’s birthday. They just came out of the over and look and smell great. I can’t wait to give her one. I didn’t have whole wheat flour so I used all purpose. Baking time was a little longer (extra 5-7 minutes). I will give her one and share the others with her play date friends. Thanks for the recipe!
can steal cut oats be used in place of the old fashioned oats?
Yes, steel cut oats can be substituted. You can expect a slight difference in texture and flavor but it’ll still be tasty to your pup all the same! 🙂
I made them for my dogs 15th birthday. Her and my younger dog loved them and were begging, barking and jumping for more than one!
What kind of dog do u have? I have a 15 and a half year old peekapoo (Today’s his half bday)
How long is the shelf life for these treats? Without being refrigerated.
Methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with. Hope that helps, Linda!
This was a simple easy recipe and our dogs loved them
Even our older picky guy. My Bernese mountain dog was paciyall day waiting for these cupcakes l. Will definitely make again!
I made these for our dogs gotcha day celebration. I used gluten-free flour and they needed to bake 25-28 minutes. Excellent recipe and my dog devoured them!
My Fiancé and I were looking for something special for our Goldendoodles first birthday when I found this recipe, she is a super picky eater but devoured a full sized one of these in seconds! Super stoked on this recipe, thanks!
Made these for my pups birthday. Both dogs absolutely loved them! Super easy to make and healthy ingredients make for an easy on the belly treat.
My puppy, Max, is OBSESSED with these Pupcakes. He licked the bowl from the batter and kept walking to the kitchen and barking at the Pupcakes as they cooled…he’s never done that for any other treat. I was able to make 24 from the recipe (I doubled up the frosting) and I shared with the neighbors and coworkers.
Everyone loved them!
That is too cute! Thanks so much for sharing with us, Amanda!
Made these for my boy, Brock for an Easter treat and he loved them! Of course he insisted on licking the batter and frosting bowls clean.
Baking time took longer than stated but that could have been my fault as I had made a double batch for 12 cupcakes and I forgot to remove lower oven rack which was lined with foil and moving rack to a higher baking position may have helped.
Frosting was a breeze. Mixed easily once cream cheese was warm.
Bottom line prep is very easy. Baking time may need to be adjusted. This treat is 100% Brock approved.
I made it with ap flour and added a dash of cinnamon. I had a baby food carrot and one organic carrot. It made twelve pupcups but the frosting was a little bit short. Next time I will add a bit more cream cheese and peanut butter.
My rescue dogs 3rd gotcha day (I can’t believe we have had her in her furever home for almost 3 years!) is coming up and we usually celebrate with pupcakes and people cake. I don’t usually put frosting on mine but I think I’ll try this recipe instead and try the frosting. I was a little hesitant when I saw it had cream cheese in it because I wasn’t sure if it was good for dogs but after doing some research I feel better about giving it to her and her pup friends! Thank you!
Thanks so much for sharing!
I’m aiming to make these for my pups bday and thought I had whole wheat flour. Can all purpose flour be used instead?
You certainly can but they might come out differently. Please use your best judgement when making modifications.
Do you have any idea how many calories are in these per pupcake? Or maybe a chart you use to figure it out? I have a MinPin that eats EVERYTHING in sight so I have to try to count calories that I feed him.
Hi Lin! Nutritional information is provided only for select recipes at this time. However, if it is not available for a specific recipe, we recommend using free online resources at your discretion (you can Google “nutritional calculator”). Hope that helps!
Our two dogs love them
These look great! I’m going to make these for our rescue dog’s birthday! Can people eat this? It looks so yummy. Also – we live in Boulder, CO (5280 ft elevation). Would you have a high altitude version? I always have a hard time with baking because of that. Thanks!
You can certainly try to serve this to humans (sans the Milk-Bone biscuits) but please note that this recipe is specifically made for dogs.
I do not have a high altitude version at this time. Sorry! I hope your pup has a great birthday!
These amazing doggie cups cakes are not only great for them but are good for us to eat too! I ate one and I couldnt believe how moist and delicious it actually was! Scale 1-10 I give it a 10!
Do these need to he refrigerated? Thanks
Yes, you can certainly refrigerate these to extend shelf life but methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with.
Your dog is very fond of this cake.
Can you make this into a cake ? And what size pan would you recommend ? Thanks
What a great idea! But unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment when making substitutions and modifications.
Hi there 🙂 this recipe looks amazing! But could you recommend is there was a non-wheat flour I could replace with? And if yes, are there any things I should look out for when combining or baking the recipe? Thank you so much.
Hi Cheryl! Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
My 10 year old daughter made these for my golden retriever’s 2nd birthday. She only used peanut butter for the icing along with dog treats as toppers. They came out perfect. She shared with the neighborhood dogs and all cupcakes where devoured in 1 bite.
Aw, that is awesome! Thanks for sharing Lisa!
I’m gonna try this soon. Can the eggs be omitted? I have egg replacer if not. We never have eggs in the house and would prefer to not have to buy any for this recipe.
The eggs are the binding ingredient in this recipe. So you might be able to omit them, but it will change the consistency of the pupcakes. I would use egg replacer if you can, but we can’t guarantee that they’ll come out the same. Please use your best judgement when making substitutions/modifications.
You could try using flax egg… which is 1tbs flaxseed meal and 3tbs water… leave to gel for 10mins then use in place of 1 egg…
Could you bake in a glass rectangler dish instead? Any idea how long if yes?
Unfortunately we cannot answer with certainty as we haven’t tried that ourselves. Please use your best judgement when making substitutions and modifications.
Are the old fashioned oats cooked or added as a dry ingredient? It looks like dry to me but I wanted to check. Thanks!
The oats are added dry.
How long will these keep if refrigerated, can we freeze them with the icing?
You can certainly refrigerate these to extend shelf life but methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with.
How long would I bake these, if I make mini pupcakes instead of standard size?
Hi Deb! Mini pupcakes would be so stinking cute! But unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty regarding the change in baking time. You may want to reduce the baking time by 5 or more minutes but as always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
Are the shredded carrots and old fashioned oats necessary?
You can omit.
What does omit mean?
I’ve never made cupcakes for a dog before, but my kids insisted for our pups birthday. It was really fun for them and fun for all of us to watch her enjoy them.
I have made these twice now, for each of my pups First Birthdays, and they were a HUGE hit! I have small dogs so I made 9 smaller pupcakes instead of 6. I also gave extras to my co-workers with dogs and was told they were devoured almost instantly! Love this recipe. It is so each and looks fabulous when finished! Thank you!
Can you refrigerate these to keep? If so how long?
Yes, you can certainly refrigerate these to extend shelf life but methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with.
Do you think freezing them would work?
Absolutely!

Thank you so much for this recipe! The Pupcakes are in the oven right now today my dogs turn 2 and I decided to try out this recipe.
Made these today for our German Shorthair Pointer’s birthday. They were super easy to make and turned out so cute. Love the milk bone embellishment! Can’t wait for the dogs to enjoy them at our get together this evening!
Thank you for the great recipe and inspiration pic!
Thank you so much for this recipe. My English Bull dog’s Adoption day party is next weekend and this is exactly what I was looking for. I have all the ingredients and can’t wait to make this. I like the other poster’s idea of doing mini muffins since we have a lot of chihuahuas also participating in the event.
Made them for my Chihuahua’s birthday. These were really easy to make and my 2 Chihuahuas LOVED them! The birthday boy has gastrointestinal problems and I was so happy that these did not upset his stomach 🙂
Cant wait to try some of the other treats!
Thank you!
I love your blog for humans and dogs! My daughters and I made these pupcakes to celebrate our rescue pup’s first birthday, and our blind dog’s gotcha day, along with some friends’ pups birthdays. These were such a hit! We made small muffin size so they were bite-sized for the dogs and they were perfect! Thanks for sharing. Everyone was very impressed by this nice touch for our special babies!
do you think you can replace the pumpkin with mashed banana?
Yes!
These look so delicious! Recently got a dog at the shelter a few months ago, but already planning his 1 year adoption anniversary. Bookmarking this and making it for him next year! Thanks for sharing this recipe!
