Garlic Sesame Noodles
Easy peasy take-out style sesame noodles for those busy weeknights! It’s a simple, quick 30-min meal the whole family will LOVE!
Remember when I went to Brooklyn a few weeks back?
I had that epic pizza slice. With actual pizza toppings.
I know. It was kind of insane.
But.
I didn’t just go for the pizza.
I mean. I did.
But I also went to attend an exclusive LEAN CUISINE tasting experience hosted at the Museum of Food and Drink.
Aka. MOFAD.
I know.
There’s a legit museum of food and drink.
And I was fortunate enough to explore their popular exhibit, Chow: Making the Chinese American Restaurant.
The takeout boxes were hanging so beautifully from floor to ceiling, yet my eyes were glued to the fortune cookie dispensary.
Except.
Well, it didn’t quite fit in my travel bag to bring back to Los Angeles.
I did, however, fit 27 fortune cookies into my purse…
That I inhaled on the flight back home.
No, but really, it was such a treat to meet the LEAN CUISINE team of highly trained chefs.
I listened and watched in awe as they prepared a recipe inspired by their newest dish, learning about the nutrition and care that goes into each of their recipes.
And the highlight of the night was clearly this.
Their newest flavor of all: Garlic Sesame Noodles with Beef, made completely from scratch using fresh, quality ingredients – and something I really needed to faceplant myself into.
I got so excited, I immediately hopped on a flight back to LA with all those “stolen” fortune cookies.
But really, I needed to make this noodle dish for myself.
I tried to stick to the original recipe as much as possible, with garlic noodles, flank steak (LEAN CUISINE chefs used prime rib beef), carrots, bell peppers, and garlic with a soy garlic sauce.
So I’ll be here, skipping date night and eating up all these garlic noodles, and all of my fortune cookies for dessert.

- 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced
- ½ teaspoon sesame seeds
For the sauce
- ¼ cup reduced sodium soy sauce

Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, garlic, brown sugar, sambal oelek, oyster sauce, ginger and sesame oil; set aside.
- In a large pot of boiling water, add Yaki-Soba until loosened, about 1-2 minutes; drain well.

- Stir in bell pepper and carrot to the skillet. Cook, stirring frequently, until tender, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in Yaki-Soba, broccoli and soy sauce mixture until broccoli is tender and the sauce is slightly thickened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in steak until heated through and evenly coated in sauce, about 1 minute.
- Serve immediately, garnished with green onion and sesame seeds, if desired.

very yummy. i added some mushrooms and some yellow onion. beef was a bit bland tho would recommend marinating or something if you have the time
I just made this. It is beyond delicious. Everyone in my family loved it and they are not easy to please! This will now be added to our rotation. I tripled the recipe.
just a thought, can we use the thin spaghetti noodles for this recipe? Thanks!
Of course!
I’ve made this with and without the carrots and bell pepper. I can honestly tell you it’s totally worth it to keep those ingredients in the dish. This is so, so good. I feel like I’ve ordered from a Michelin rated restaurant! I love the full flavors and I really love me some garlic. Thanks for the numminess!
You’re so welcome! Thanks for sharing with us.
This was great! I used dry egg noodles, presoaked in boiling water, and chicken instead of the beef.
Great!
Today, I ordered your book!
Great!! Let us know how you like it!
I have several packages of rice noodles but, I have to admit, I don’t know how to prepare them correctly.
Some instructions say to rest noodles in hot water for a few minutes….then, caution not to let them sit and become
mush. Others say to heat and cook for a few minutes and quickly rinse.
Can you advise? I may just give it up and go for a G.F. Pasta.
Hi Carole, we can only advise to cook as it states on the packages. Let us know how it goes!
looks delish! Is there a substitute for the noodles
Ariya, you can substitute with a noodle of your choice!
This was a yummy dish. I left out the meat and added more veggies and substituted fish sauce for oyster sauce because that’s what I had on hand. It was so delicious. Even my husband liked it even though he was complaining about it not having any meat at first.
Great recipe, I substituted chicken for beef and it still came out yummy!
Any suggestions for how to substitute the meat for tofu? Can you marinate the tofu in the sauce to give it more flavor?
Yes, absolutely!
I made this tonight with ribeye, extra veggies and a little more chile paste. I couldn’t get yaki soba, but found udon and this was amazing! My fiance raved. Thanks, Chungah!
Can I substitute Sriracha for the Sambal Oelek? It’s just what I have on hand. Thanks!
Yes, that should work!
Is there a specific brand of Yakisoba noodles that you used in this recipe? I’ve seen the Maruchan’s fresh Yaki-Soba stir fry noodles (with seasoning sauce base) in the asian stores. Thanks!
I always use Maruchan!
Made this last night! My husband and I ate the entire pan… I made extra noodles for my daughter and served hers with some of the sauce. We loved it! And I forgot the fresh ginger but I had ground ginger and it worked.
This dish looks great! I was wondering if this will keep well in the fridge for meal prep?
Yes, it certainly keeps for a few days!
What would be the best noodle option for a gluten/wheat free diet? This looks delicious and I want to make it to fit my daughter’s dietary needs. Thanks!
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
Most soba noodles are made from buckwheat flour and are gluten free. Check the package to make sure. Buckwheat does not contain gluten.
Yakisoba noodles aren’t soba noodles, they’re a ramen style noodle and they contain wheat flour. Also all the soba noodles I’ve seen here in the US, while they contain buckwheat, they also contain wheat flour as well, unfortunately. I’ve yet to find soba noodles that are pure buckwheat, even the expensive Hakubaku has wheat flour in their soba noodles. If someone can point me to a soba brand noodle that has no wheat, I would greatly appreciate it.
It Looks yummy. Thanks for this mouth watering noodle recipe post.
