Prep for the week ahead! Perfect to refuel and snack with cheese, crackers, apples, cranberries and almonds!
I’ll admit.
I have bought these bistro boxes at Starbucks on many occasions.
When I’ve been desperate for something light. Something indulgent. But nothing too crazy.
Particularly when I’m at the airport. When option one is Shake Shack. Option two is Panda Express. And option three is this.
So I’ll typically go with option three.
With Brie, Gouda, cheddar, nine-grain crackers, Granny Smith apple slices, dried cranberries and almonds.
It looks like a small box. But don’t be fooled. It’ll keep you full and satisfied for hours.
Except now.
Well. Now I have learned my lesson.
I go to the airport fully stocked. I never leave home without my passport and this bistro box.
Plus. The homemade bistro box costs $2.50 per serving.
So now you have $3-4 to spend on a celebrity gossip magazine for the flight.
See? I have all bases covered here.

I didn’t realize how much I had missed those boxes until I made this, but obviously this is way better! I couldn’t find a regular aged cheddar so I grabbed an Irish cheddar and it’s SO GOOD with the Granny Smith apple! I’m not a fain of raisins so I didn’t expect to like craisins, but they’re delicious with the almonds. Gave me energy to get so much done at work! I do have to ask though, what’s the nutrition info on this? I don’t see it here (maybe I’m just blind) and it isn’t in the Meal Prep cookbook so I’m curious.
Thank you!!
<3
What brand are the non grain crackers that you found? I can’t find these anywhere!!
To be honest, I can’t remember the exact brand but any brand of nine-grain crackers, such as Kashi, should work just fine. 🙂
i enjoy this all the time. however, because I count calories, I give the almonds and cranberries to a friend and eat only the apple slices and cheese. can you tell me what the calorie count might be please because 480 for the whole bistro box is very high for my program!
thank you
We cannot recalculate the nutritionals but we recommend using free online resources at your discretion (you can Google “nutritional calculator”) to obtain such information. Hope that helps!
I want to know what brand of nine grain crackers taste like the ones at Starbucks
Pam, this may be best answered by Starbucks. 🙂
Great idea. Could also have a spontaneous picnic!!!
Hi,
I just wanted to know if the cheese will be okay on room temperature and for how long…Thanks! Love your idea!!!
As I am not an expert on food safety, I cannot really say with certainty – sorry, Sheila! Methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with.
Yum! Thanks for the idea. I’m pregnant and hungry all the time. This would be a satisfying second breakfast. 🙂
Chunga, I really appreciate the idea. As a husband who dotes on his wife, who is a very busy mom and teacher. I’m always trying to come up with ideas on how to make her life a little easier. I normally buy her Lunchables for a snack, but honestly, I may start making these.
Just curious, how many ounces are your dressing cups that you’ve put your nut and fruit mix into?
I used 1-ounce disposable cups.
This is such a great idea I don’t know why I didn’t think of doing this. Grapes would be a great addition. I’m going to makes these for next week! Thanks for posting this!!!!!!
I love your site and your ideas- I really appreciate you Chunga. Thank you for this as I wouldn’t have thought to do this without seeing your post. Be encouraged that we DO appreciate these tips for those of us without the creative food gene!
I am not a coffee drinker which as an RN for 45 yrs seems impossible, but coffee upsets my stomach. Therefore, I never go to Starbucks, the smell alone sickens me, so I have never seen their bistro boxes. As an older woman, diabetic, on a limited number of calories, needing protein and fiber, calcium and raw fruit/veggies, this is a great idea and lends itself to easy substitutions of nuts, cheeses, crackers, even raw veggies. Thanks for the heads up!
I’m sorry, but you’re going to put crackers in a box w/ fruit and cheese and put the whole thing in the fridge? Talk about “cracker wilt”. 🙁
I actually haven’t had any issues with these crackers! 🙂
I have a question. Can I substitute the cranberries with raisins and the almonds with dry roasted peanuts?
Of course!
What a wonderful idea. To buy this already prepacked would cost an arm and a leg. Much cheaper buying all the ingredients, make this for the week is a duh moment for me. Thank you so much for all your wonderful money saving recipes and ideas. This one to is a keeper for me. You rock! Please keep your fabulous recipes and ideas coming. This is also a good, healthy and practical idea for me because I am trying to lose weight and eat healthier to. This will be my healthy snacks. I will also be packing son for my little soccer player. Thanks again, and have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks for the idea…I love all of the ingredients in this. I may add a hard boiled egg for extra protein for my husband and I.
Great idea – I might do the same!
I wish you would remove rude and obnoxious comments like this one from Katie Murphy. She obviously has nothing better to do with her time than to post on blogs with negative, nasty comments. When a person is being helpful, if you have nothing nice to say, you should have learned as a child to keep your mouth shut if you have nothing nice to say. There are people that are not very creative or would not even think of putting these food items together in a box for a healthier snack choice.
Thank you,
Chungah! We appreciate your site and all you do! Have an amazing weekend!
Yum! I can already tell I’m going to love making this next week!

This is one of those times I just say “”Doh! Why don’t I ever think to do this in the morning?” Thanks for the reminder!
I work 4 hour teaching days at a high school. I got hungry by 10:30am. This idea seems so obvious when you lay it out this way! I have been buying premade boxes. I have earned several free lattes but I would rather have the cash!! Making these up on Sunday night to enjoy next week. Thanks
What brand of crackers do you use?
I used a generic brand from Whole Foods.
