Prep for the week ahead! Perfect to refuel and snack with cheese, crackers, apples, cranberries and almonds!
I’ll admit.
I have bought these bistro boxes at Starbucks on many occasions.
When I’ve been desperate for something light. Something indulgent. But nothing too crazy.
Particularly when I’m at the airport. When option one is Shake Shack. Option two is Panda Express. And option three is this.
So I’ll typically go with option three.
With Brie, Gouda, cheddar, nine-grain crackers, Granny Smith apple slices, dried cranberries and almonds.
It looks like a small box. But don’t be fooled. It’ll keep you full and satisfied for hours.
Except now.
Well. Now I have learned my lesson.
I go to the airport fully stocked. I never leave home without my passport and this bistro box.
Plus. The homemade bistro box costs $2.50 per serving.
So now you have $3-4 to spend on a celebrity gossip magazine for the flight.
See? I have all bases covered here.

Love copy cat even if it’s “just an idea” – great cost saver. Now, how about their BBQ chicken roll ups box. (-:
I’m on it! 🙂
Great timing! I’ll be taking a trip soon and will make one of these and take to the airport with
me. I love these snack boxes. Thanks for the idea!
How do you keep the apples from turning brown?
Sprinkling a little bit of lemon juice on them helps with that.
What do you use to keep the apple slices from oxidizing?
Lemon juice generally helps with that.
Do you put anything on the apples to keep them from turning brown. Typically I would think lemon juice?
Yes, lemon juice is great for that.
How do you keep the apples from browning? Do you mix w/some lemon juice before packing?
A little bit of lemon juice should do the trick!
Do you REALLY consider this something for your food blog? I am so disappointed that you think so little of your readers that you think they couldn’t figure out fruit, cheese and crackers. Ridiculous.
Hi Katie, it’s not so much the act of putting it together but rather sharing the idea of making this yourself and prepping it for the week, instead of buying the more expensive, and often a less healthy version.
Why the need to be so snarky? If you didn’t like the post, just move on. You don’t have to make it into a personal attack against the author.
Totally agree. Just move on instead of being cranky. You are here by choice!
Wow, chill Katie…thanks for the list of ingredients Chungah /Jana; some of us appreciate the little things in life!
Katie’s mom never taught her if you have nothing nice to say, you should say nothing at all. I, like others, appreciate the idea Chungah.
I realize we all have different opinions. With that said, I would like to say that I make this particular meal prep quite often. I make mini versions of it for my children’s 3pm snack. I would have never thought to make this box without this post. I am an avid home cook, I really appreciate these posts, and wish their more of them.
It also saves us money , time and I know my family is eating healthy. My kids also enjoy the peanut butter boxes in the prep series. We have tried nearly every prep on this site, and we appreciate the time, creativity and healthiness of each prep.
Thank you so much! We love to hear that you are enjoying them.
