Green Detox Smoothie

Guys.
I really really really need this smoothie right now.
Because the croissants. The charcuterie boards. The steak frites. The calories are adding up.
So as soon as we land in the US, we’ll pick up Butters and detoxify the entire weekend with this.
With plenty of superfoods and greens, we will be set for 2018. Plus, the banana and apple adds just enough sweetness so you may not even need the honey.
But first things first.
I need to indulge in my last few chocolate croissants in Paris before we head home!


Green Detox Smoothie
Ingredients
- 2 cups baby spinach
- 2 cups baby kale
- 2 celery ribs, chopped
- 1 medium green apple, chopped
- 1 cup frozen sliced banana
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon honey
Instructions
- Combine spinach, kale, celery, apple, banana, almond milk, ginger, chia seeds and honey in blender until smooth.
- Serve immediately.

Love this smoothie made it twice now, was sweet enough without the honey, second time just put one stick of celery in, which I find doesn’t over power it, delicious just had one for breakfast and lunch as I made the full recipe, will finish the rest off in the morning it was alright kept overnight, but wouldn’t want to keep it any longer

Janet, you can enjoy a smoothie in the morning as a meal replacement (I find that this is the easiest way to include green smoothies in your day). If you wish, you can add another cup or two in the afternoon, when you usually have an energy slump. But please be mindful that this process varies for everyone, depending on a number of factors like your diet, stress load, and even mindset.
This is so good! I substituted 1% regular milk for the almond, and upped the honey just a bit. I quartered all the ingredients to make just one at a time- I am definitely going to make this a lot! (I will say that I do taste the celery but it isn’t a bad flavor- there are so many things going on in this smoothie and every sip is a different combi!)
Can I add lemon juice in it
Great recipe. I just got done making it. It was quick and helpful. . I just tried it and it’s definitely a taste you have to acquire, I guess anything that’s healthy you have to acquire a taste because it’s different. So I am trying it for the first time and I will be replacing two meals with this a day. Thanks
Thanks for sharing! But please be sure to give your body enough sustenance to make it through the day. This smoothie isn’t really a longterm meal replacement but it sure helps you detox for a couple days. Hope you’ll enjoy it!

I haven’t made the smoothie yet, but I’ve purchased all the ingredients. I realize this says serve immediately, but I work incredibly early in the mornings, so is this something I could make the night before and store in the fridge just overnight? I really don’t think my house would be happy with a blender going at 3am…

Yes, you can substitute the milk of your choice. Most of the ingredients can be frozen but as always, please use your best judgment when freezing. Hope that helps!
Would it be ok to add the chia seeds and to eat it immediately? I always knew that chia seeds must be eaten after they were left overnight in milk/yoghurt.
Sure! I always top off my oatmeal with chia seeds and consume immediately without any issues. 🙂
Is there something else other than almond milk or milk that can be used to make the smoothies?
What a great idea! But unfortunately, without having tried this myself, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment when making substitutions and modifications.
This was such a great recipe that tastes delicious! I realized when I started it I was out of kale and not enough almond milk to use so I substituted with water and used organic ground ginger which still worked fine and I have friends local that make their own honey!

You can omit or substitute with something else like pineapple or mango chunks! 🙂
