I know the shrimp is supposed to be the main hero and all but my goodness.
That sauce. That pooled sauce the shrimp is swimming in. Now that is the true hero here.
It’s sweet, it’s tangy, it’s buttery, it’s garlicky. It’s absolute saucy goodness. And everything you could want in a sauce.
Have some crusty bread nearby because you’ll want to sop up ALL of it, leaving zero leftovers behind.

Honey Lime Shrimp
Ingredients
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed and divided
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium shallot, minced
- 1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- ⅓ cup vegetable or chicken stock
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
- 2 teaspoons lime zest
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
Instructions
- Melt 6 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add garlic and shallot, and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in chili powder and paprika.
- Add shrimp; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Cook, stirring occasionally, until pink and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in vegetable or chicken stock, honey, lime juice and lime zest, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- Remove from heat; stir in cilantro and remaining 2 tablespoons butter until melted.
- Serve immediately.

This sauce sounds delicious. One of my family members doesn’t like shrimp. Do you think we can use cut up chicken tenders in it’s place? Any tricks before I try?
I haven’t tried that Belinda, but I’ll chime in to say that one of my favorite recipes is honey lime chicken enchiladas, and it is very, very similar to this recipe. It is so delicious! If I were you I’d make this, but reserve a portion of the marinade (the honey/lime/chili/garlic), and toss cooked chicken tenders with it.
Made this last night and it was a hit! My husband said “if it was easy to make” then I should add it to our regular rotation – which is his highest complement. And it was very simple and quick to make. The sauce is delicious!
