Tomato Basil Chicken Fettuccine
A quick weeknight Italian pasta dish using fresh, simple ingredients that you already have on hand! So easy and simple!
It’s just such a simple dish that comes together in a flash. And you can repurpose leftover ingredients as needed – like subbing in leftover chicken from the night before or adding in those lingering veggies from the fridge.
But the tomatoes and basil are absolute key here. It brings in such fresh flavors, and the juices from the tomatoes coupled with the melted butter make an amazing sauce for the fettuccine.
Tomato Basil Chicken Fettuccine
Ingredients
- 8 ounces fettuccine
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 cup basil leaves, chiffonade
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan
Instructions
- In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions; drain well.
- Season chicken with Italian seasoning; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add chicken and cook, flipping once, until cooked through, about 5-6 minutes on each side. Set aside and keep warm.
- Add garlic, tomatoes, basil and red pepper flakes, if using, to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes begin to burst and have softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in pasta and butter until melted and well combined, about 2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Serve immediately, topped with chicken and garnished with Parmesan, if desired.

This is absolutely delicious. I am making again this evening! I added quartered artichoke hearts, capers, red onion and a squeeze of lemon. LOVELOVELOVE!!!
So delish
I did add red onion and mushrooms
Only because I had them
And more garlic
We all loved this dish
Thank you
Made this with ready cooked rotisserie chicken, so skipped the chicken cooking stage. I also use 4 large tomatoes, which is what I had on hand. I found it very tasty, but will cut the butter in half next time. Very easy to make an impressive dish!
Easy, fast, and good! I added a few squeezes of lemon.
Delicious! Fast! Weeknight crowd pleaser!! I did use real butter but hey, it was incredible.
Made as written – no substitutions. It is a great way to use up a ton of beautiful basil. Next time will likely cook the entire box of fettucine instead of 8oz only.
This recipe is A-MA-ZING! I usually follow recipes as stated the first time and make adjustments the next, but this need no adjusting, it’s perfect as is! I might be adventurous sometime and try some of the suggestions of other reviewers, like adding onions, bell pepper or zucchini. But this one is a keeper for sure! Thank you!
This was great! I came upon the recipe looking for something to make with what we had in the house. Since I was using things up, I added chopped onions and zucchini with some more olive oil before adding the tomatoes. Once simmered, added the rest of the ricotta cheese I had at home, maybe 2 tablespoons? Was so good! I can see this becoming a staple.
made this the other week and it was AWESOME. this is the first time I have ever left a review, that’s how good it was. My husband said to add this to our rotation. Fairly easy to make as well! YUMMM
Fantastic recipe! Once the prep work is done, its really quick and easy. Everything was balanced. Thank you!
Loved it! Very delicious.
I won’t be doing this recipe again… not enough sauce, if you can even call it that. Not very flavourful either…even with fresh tomatoes and basil from my garden. I don’t get why it has a 5 star rating…
This is such a quick and tasty recipe to make. My partner and I made it a few weeks ago, and it was easy to do even after a few drinkies 😉
Great summer dish!
I have tried countless online recipes and I’ve enjoyed many of them, but NEVER have I been so blown away that I felt let to leave a review. This recipe is so fantastic! Absolutely delicious, easy and man did my family inhale it!!! They used bread to wipe out the pot! Thank you for this recipe… It’s an absolute winner!
Delicious!! We will add capers and/or artichoke hearts next time for a little extra flavor.
I made this last night and it was amazing! I cooked the veggies in balsamic vinegar wine , I also added some clamato juice when I put everything together. I think next time I will add zucchini in with it to make it more amazing;)
The addition of zucchini sounds perfect, Cassie!
I just made this recipe and it came out so incredibly good! My family loved it and it wasn’t difficult to make.
One of my favorite recipes…so quick and easy…and delicious! Have even made without the chicken. Even better, use fresh fettuccini!!
Great idea!
This looks amazing, as always. Thank you!
