Classic Pigs in a Blanket
The easiest two ingredient pigs in a blanket you will ever make – perfect for game day or as an after-school snack!
I know most of you are so excited for the Big Game on Sunday, and the last thing you want to do is be a slave to the kitchen while entertaining guests. That’s why I have made the easiest, most simplest appetizer you could ever make: the two ingredient pigs in a blanket.
You can use your favorite kind of sausage for these – andouille, smoked, turkey, etc. I chose the traditional route and went with Hebrew National. And after you cut up your sausage into bite-sized pieces, you’ll wrap them up in thin strips of crescent rolls. From here, you can either sprinkle on some poppy seeds or throw them right in the oven.
12 minutes later, you’ll have the best, most fastest-selling appetizer on your table. You can even make it before-hand and just pop it in the oven before serving. Seriously, how easy and effortless was that?!
Classic Pigs in a Blanket
Ingredients
- 1 (8-ounce) tube crescent rolls
- 8 hot dogs, cut into thirds
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds, optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.
- Roll out the crescent rolls into one sheet, placing 2 triangles together by pinching the seams to make a square. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut each rectangle into 6 strips.
- Wrap each strip around each hot dog, leaving a little space at the edges. Sprinkle the tops with poppy seeds, if using.
- Place into oven and bake until golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
- Serve immediately.

I just made these for my kids’ party and they were a huge hit! So easy to make and so delicious! The perfect snack for any occasion
Love, love, love these classic pigs in a blanket! The combination of crispy bacon and warm, gooey cheese is pure perfection. I could eat them all day, er, night
I used cheese in mine also.
Can these be prepped ahead of time, refrigerated for a few hours then baked right before party time?
One correction – In Step 2 you said to make the two triangles into a square. Then you said to cut the rectangles
into strips. That was confusing until I realized that you probably meant to make the two triangle into a
“rectangle “. Using the word “square” was a typo I guess.

Thanks for the fantastic idea! If I were bringing these to a party (cooked), do you think they would travel ok?
You can certainly make these ahead of time, although these are really best when served immediately.
I’ve had to bake then ahead of time, then warm them up with a microwave at the party. It’s not as crispy/flaky of a Crist as when right out of the oven, but it still worked and held up fairly well. Only needed a short time in microwave, until warned, maybe 30-60 second, using 15 sec intervals after the initial heat and checking the temp.

I am using all beef hot dogs to make these. do i need to cook the hot dogs first before I wrap and bake?
Lesley, there is no need to cook the hot dogs prior to baking.
Oh yes, I’ve always loved these 🙂 saving this to try out soon!
Look lovely … and so easy … but what are crescent rolls? (I’m from the UK!) Is it croissant dough?
Here’s a reader from Sweden who wonders too what are crescent rolls 🙂
Crescent rolls are very flaky and buttery crescent-shaped rolls. You can buy the pre-made dough or make it from scratch. It’s amazing, and so versatile!
Pigs in a blanket totally make me feel like a kid again. Love!
Right?! You can NEVER grow out of pigs in a blanket 🙂
It’s the simple things. 🙂 Seriously, this is one of the best treats out there and yet I managed to totally forget about it! Thanks for the reminder. And next time I’m definitely adding the poppy seeds.
Those pigs in a blanket look absolutely perfect! Great job 🙂
