Cheesecake Factory Avocado Egg Rolls
Just like the restaurant-version, except it’s so much cheaper to make right at home and it tastes a million times better too!
We don’t eat out at Cheesecake Factory very often but when we make a visit there once in a blue moon for a big family gathering or celebration, these avocado egg rolls are always a must. And when the plate hits the table, we’re all fighting for the last one. Except, no one wants to be the person to actually grab the last egg roll. We all say, “Oh no, it’s all yours,” but we secretly want it all for ourselves.
Or is that just me?
Now if you are one of those peoples, then have no fear – here’s a homemade version that you can make right in the comfort of your own kitchen. And you can grab that last egg roll guilt free! Just be sure to keep an extra stash somewhere in the kitchen where no one else can find it.
But the best part about this recipe is not only does it taste a million times better than the restaurant version but it’s also unbelievably easy to make and so much cheaper to make right at home. Simply combine your avocado mixture, which is very close to guacamole, throw them in an egg roll wrapper and then into the skillet until they’re wonderfully crisp and golden brown.
Done and done.
These came together in just 20 minutes, and we devoured them in less than 5. It was so good, we made them again the very next day! And I’m sure they’ll be back on the menu this week. But I may just have to make them when Jason isn’t home because I am in no mood to share these.

Cheesecake Factory Avocado Egg Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 3 avocados, halved, peeled and seeded
- 1 Roma tomato, diced
- ¼ cup diced red onion
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
- Juice of 1 lime
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 8 egg roll wrappers
For the cilantro dipping sauce
- ¾ cup fresh cilantro leaves, loosely packed
- ⅓ cup sour cream
- 1 jalapeno, seeded and deveined, optional
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 clove garlic
- Juice of 1 lime
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- To make the cilantro dipping sauce, combine cilantro, sour cream, jalapeno, mayonnaise, garlic and lime juice in the bowl of a food processor; season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium high heat.
- In a medium bowl, gently mash avocados using a potato masher. Add tomato, red onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt and pepper, to taste, and gently toss to combine.
- Working one at a time, place avocado mixture in the center of each wrapper. Bring the bottom edge of the wrapper tightly over the filling, folding in the sides. Continue rolling until the top of the wrapper is reached. Using your finger, rub the edges of the wrapper with water, pressing to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and avocado mixture.
- Working in batches, add egg rolls to the Dutch oven and fry until evenly golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve immediately with cilantro dipping sauce.

The dipping sauce was so delicious! it really complimented the avocado egg roll well. I think this sauce would go well with many dishes. I have made many recipes on this site and they have all been 5 stars!
I made these exactly as stated for an honest review. As is, and my HO, too much lime in both the rolls and dipping sauce. The eggroll wrappers were a bit thick for me and I didn’t like the dipping sauce at all.
With my changes, I decreased the lime a lot (probably 1/2 tsp), used Lumpia wraps, added a dash of Chipotle seasoning, and a dash of lemon pepper. I made my own sauce – one part sweet chili and one part Kikkoman teriyaki glaze.
I used this recipe for a Christmas party a few years ago and they were a huge hit. SOOOOO yummy.
I loved these SO much. Even the sauce is to die for! I replaced the onions with shallots 🙂 My family loved these and I would definitely make these again.
I baked the egg rolls. But avocados come out through the egg roll sheet, as they are very thin. What can I do to prevent that.
fry them
Do you think I can make these and freeze them? Will they still be good??
Can you add cooked, crumbled pork to these egg rolls?
Perfect fun little recipie. Took about 30 minutes (so I wasn’t starving by the time it was done). Careful w the oil temp and frying too long. Everything was delicious
! The dip I will use for other things and the egg rolls make for a filling post workout small meal. I added some shredded cheese and a lil jerk sauce
OMG…Made these tonight and holy smokes they’re so good! Thank you for the amazing recipe – this is one of our favorites from Cheesecake Factory and this totally hit the spot!
Let me start out by saying; I am not a fan of avocados or cilantro. Now with that said I saw these and something said “you need to try these” Damn it you take good pictures. They looked so amazing. So I tried them. They are really easy to make and they are (pause for dramatic effect)….DELICIOUS!!!! I am now hooked on avocados and cilantro!!!! Thank you for showing me the light 😉
These avacado rolls are amazing! They were so easy to make as well! Instead of the cilantro dipping sauce, I mixed Greek yogurt, sweet chili sauce and siracha together. This is definitely my go to, easy week night meal from now on!
I cannot open your video. It doesn’t work why?????
and also where can i find egg wraps please???
The CIlantro Dipping Sauce was great but not what The Cheesecake Factory serves with this appetizer. I used tortilla chips to consume the dipping sauce and went with Chinese Sweet Chili Sauce for the avocado egg rolls which is a good substitute for the Cheesecake Factory Tamarind-Cashew dipping sauce..
These look absolutely mouthwatering, can’t wait to make some.
Has anyone tried cooking these in an air fryer instead of frying in the dutch oven? They look pretty low calorie otherwise…
Did you end up trying the air fryer? I am thinking about doing it that way as well
Same question!!! I want to make these this weekend but with air fryer
I just made these today. So yummy! I had extra egg roll wrappers and I wanted to use them with ingredients I had on hand. This recipe fit perfectly. I made burrito bowls this weekend so I had left over homemade salsa. I added that to the avocado. So simple and delicious! Thanks!
I fully intend on making these soon and appreciate the freshness of these ingredients, but I’m wondering if the tomato is correct. I remember the egg rolls having a slight sweetness to them that I don’t think comes from the Avocado.
Have you ever considered using a sun dried tomato? I think that is the kind of flavor I remember and am sure they would still like be really tasty.
What a great idea! I will definitely have to try that next time.
These were yummy!! I did cheat a little and bought premade guacamole from the store for the filling. The dipping sauce was delicious! I’m printing this one to keep.
Only 288 calories? I’m going to have to try this! Thanks for sharing!
I did bake them instead of frying them, and it worked out quite nice. Thanks for the great experience.
So this recipe is in a gluten free site! Where can you buy gluten free egg roll wrappers??
egg fried rice is a favorite of mine, great recipe and thanks for sharing.
Simon
You have another egg roll recipe that calls for baking, why can’t these be baked? Are the baked southwestern egg rolls not crispy? I would love to make these for a baby shower but won’t have time to individually pan-fry them.
OMG!!! So I Just Made These An They Came Out Soooooo Good Best Recipe Its Absolutely Perfect..Thank You For Sharing ❤❤
Is it possible to make the rolls in advance and freeze them until ready to make?
Can I bake these instead of frying them?
We did the same thing, without as much lime they would be delish. with a whole lime it was crazy tart
Oh dear, these are dangerously too easy to make and to eat. If this sort of recipe intimidates you, DON’T LET IT.
I got 12 rolls out of one recipe. My husband thinks I am a goddess in the kitchen. Thanks for making me (and everyone else!) look good.
These look SUPER yummy. I really want to try them BUT sadly I cannot eat fried foods 🙁 (causes migraines…sigh…) Would you be able to reccomend a way to possibly bake these?
I ADORE your website!!! I think I have made 6 or 7 of your recipes and they always turn out deliscious!!! I cant wait to try these!!!!
If you use phillo dough, you should be able to bake these and have the great crunch to every bite.
These turned out perfectly!!! I love it when recipes posted online work exactly the way they’re supposed to. My children, my husband, and I absolutely loved these!
What is a good dish this can be paired with? I want to make these for dinner but I feel like these alone won’t be enough.
Also, I forgot to mention, I’m a vegetarian.. so suggestions welcome for vegetarian dishes!
My absolute favorite side dish is the garlic parmesan roasted potatoes. But please feel free to check out all of my side dish recipes here.
These are amazing! My partner and I made these for our third anniversary and we were amazed! I can’t believe I was so afraid to make egg rolls for so long, they are so easy to wrap up! Thank you!
This is the second recipe I tried from your site. (The first was the PF Changs Lettuce Wraps which were A++ by the way.) I didn’t really like this Avocado Egg Roll recipe, and I can’t quite put my finger on why. My husband and our foreign exchange student didn’t like it either. I do believe everything was prepared exactly as described. Since this isn’t a dish I normally order at Cheesecake Factory, it may just not be our taste.
I should add, although we didn’t care for the egg rolls, the dip recipe was phenomenal! That was a huge hit and I will be making that part again.
Fixed these tonight for an appetizer to serve during a football game. They were delicious. I was thinking about making them with wonton wrappers (just a dollop of avocado mix) like a cheese wonton.
Do you need to use a dutch oven or can you put them in a regular oven and bake?
Thanks
I want to try these sprayed with olive oil and baked. Has anyone tried baking them instead of frying?
As always every recipe I’ve tried is great.
Following- I would love to try baking them. I was thinking of doing it for 5 min increments at 475?
instead of talking about it try it! I’ve seen about 5 post that have debated backing them…
I’ve never made an egg roll in my life, but I LOVE avocado so I decided to give these a try today—the day I discovered them here. They were amazing! The dip was sick, it was so delicious! Was nervous to put them in that hot oil as I’ve never done that before, but they turned out great!
These were so good I overate & I think I could’ve eaten the dip alone with a spoon once my appetizer was gone! My only thought is that I wasn’t sure how much avocado to put in the middle of the wrapper, I guessed & so I’m not sure if I did it ‘right’. Thanks for this recipe & since following your blog, our dinners have stepped up a notch. So much fun making your recipes! 🙂
I cannot wait to try these! Thank you so much for sharing!
mmm I bet bacon pieces would be awesome in these
Guuuuurl these were soooo good! I had them 3 days ago and they ade it back onto next weeks rotation! Ha! Love all your stuff, you have fantastic taste buds
When I had these at the CF, they were served with a clear sweet dipping sauce. I found a copycat recipe that tastes right, and it’s very simple: 3-4 teaspoons white vinegar, 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon tamarind pulp, 1 pinch powdered saffron and 1/2 cup honey. Stir together everything except the tamarind in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 1 minute in the microwave, then add the tamarind pulp and stir until it dissolves.
I’ve never been to CCF, but I saw these and they looked delicious. I actually added bacon to mine, and they turned out amazing! Thanks for the recipe!
My daughter can’t eat mayo, is there a substitute I could use in the dipping sauce?
Greek yogurt or even sour cream would be a great substitute.
Hey I saw one question about freezing where you replied not to as the avocado might brown. I’m not trying to step on toes but you can freeze avocado beautifully. Just trying to be helpful. I actually pulled whole frozen avocados out of the freezer for this and it was a go.
I was searching copycat Cheesecake Factory dinner rolls and Google gave me Avocado Egg Rolls. I stumbled upon your recipe and I am bookmarking – these look so good. I hope to give this a try. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Absolutely Delicious! My husband and I enjoyed the combination together. The flavor was so good! Friends were asking for the receipe so I shares your link ! 🙂
This is my second time making them. Both times very good. When i have leftovers, i put them in the oven for a few minutes and to me they still taste good. I found the sweet cilantro dipping sauce on another website and i think the dipping sauce with this recipe and the other recipe tasted good. But i enjoy eating :o). We have a place here in PA that makes collard greens and chicken egg rolls and i made that too.
Chungah: Do you have more egg roll recipes with different fillings?
I will be making this tomorrow. Thanks for the awesome recipe, as always!
I came across this recipe on pinterest the other day. I went to the store to get all the ingredients and I can’t wait to make them. I want them NOW!!!
I love using sun dried tomatoes in recipes and this one looks like its a hit. Love your pictures.
Hi.
What can I use instead of sour cream.
when I want to reduce sour cream, I substitute plain Greek yogurt.
Ooh this sounds like a bit of me 🙂
I use almost the same mixture for my avocado toast, mash together avocado, red onion, vine tomatoes, jalapeños, lime juice and chilli flakes, spread onto toast then top with blobs of soured cream, grated extra mature cheddar, a bunch of torn up coriander/cilantro and lots of franks hot sauce
We don’t have egg rolls here (England) but we have spring rolls and chop suey rolls which are both similar but have a very thin wrapper which is not as thick or crispy as egg rolls are. Look forward to making these and playing around with different mixes for the filling.
Thank you for the recipe and I look forward to looking through your site 🙂
Wow! A favorite of mine at CCF; I often order them as my entire meal. I have to go easy on the dipping sauce though, as I have a low tolerance for peppery spices. Now we can make it to taste!
These give me life!! I am so excited to make them!
Damn, i love this dish. It looks so elegant and light at the same time. Need to try this.
These were awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I fried in coconut oil and they came out just perfect. Thanks again!
Will try them when I find the wrappers because I am at present in Central America and need to check availability . However, the ONLY wish I have with an unknown (for me) recipe like this I would LOVE a couple of photos of you filling and closing them and how they look in the quantity of oil.. However, no question that what photos you DO have , are mouth-watering!!
These look delicious. Could I make them ahead of time and reheat them? If so, how would you recommend doing it?
Just love these! Cheesecake Factory has huge portions but this is the one thing that always seems scant. We can never have enough of these..
I absolutely LOVE these, that’s a big part of why I go to CCF. I’ve moved, and the closest one to me now is hundreds of miles away. I half heartedly searched for the recipe, not expecting to find anything. I can’t wait to make them myself!
These came out really good. Only thing i would change is not as much lime juice, mine were pretty limey, almost overpowered the other flavors. But all in all, they were delicious!
We don’t have a Cheesecake factory here 🙁 I would like to try these for a cold buffet. Does the pastry stay crisp once they are cold? Im guessing they’re gone before they cool down as they look amazing but if you know that would be great!
Yum! Now I know what to do with the dozens of avocados falling off my tree. Thanks
Just made these and they were amazing! I have never been to the CF, but can’t imagine theirs being any better!
Do you think these could be done in the oven (spray with olive oil and place the oven on broil, then flip and repeat) without deep frying them? Always trying to find a healthier alternative!
Look so delicious and will try them next week. Thanks for the nice pics also. Love this site!
These look amazing. It’s amazing what wonderful things you can make by putting stuff in egg roll wrappers. I make cheese egg rolls and serve them with taco soup Can’t wait to try making these.
There is no way that I will go to the Cheesecake Factory and not order these. They are simply yummie! Now I have to try this recipe!
I absolutely love these! Question though, this looks like a creamy sauce…our Cheesecake Factory serves them with a clear green sauce…that is almost like a sweet green chili sauce?
Hi, The recipe sounds great. I was wondering how much oil to use when frying. Are you deep frying these or just coating the bottom of the dutch oven with oil? I hope its the latter.
Thanks
Can these be fried a day before – then heat them up in the oven?
I was wondering the same thing. Ours serves it with the same sweet, clear sauce with something green (possibly cilantro). It definitely doesn’t have sour cream in it.
thanks so much for the recipe. When I go to the Cheesecake that is the one thing i have to order.
i was wondering if there was a healthier way to make them maybe in the oven? instead of frying
thanks
Kylielyn
I would use heart healthy coconut oil to fry them in.
Is there a good dairy free option to the cilantro sauce?
Today I was try to make Avocado Egg Roll and really amazing, I love it so much! Thanks for sharing xxxxx
Also- I don’t have a food processor at the time- can I use a blender instead?
Sounds yummy! But I don’t have a Dutch oven, how can I make these without it??
Found this recipe yesterday while doing a google search for egg roll recipes. Tried it as soon as I got home and they were simply amazing! I wanted to take a picture to post on Instagram but my family ate them too fast!
The picture totally looks like there is bacon in there. I had to read the recipe 3 times to see if i’m seeing things or not. I am, but I am totally going to try these with just a little strip of bacon in each. Mmmm Bacon.
I have to ask… I tried making a grilled sandwich once with avocado, but due to the heat it rendered the avocado tasteless and the sandwich ended up in the bin. How do you manage to fry these egg rolls crispy brown and still have the avocado taste yummy? Is there a trick I don’t know?
Tanya, I’m not sure if there’s any trick to it but the avocado here surely isn’t tasteless!
it looks like bacon in your pics, but i’m guessing it’s tomato?
I love these egg rolls! Thank you for sharing! Have you had any luck with the sweet cilantro vinaigrette dressing they serve with them?
I just polished off the last two egg rolls. I think I could eat my weight in egg rolls and drink the cilantro dipping sauce straight up. Thanks for the recipe, as usual. Any chance you could post more photos of the steps like you used to do? My egg roll wrapping skills are weak. I always love your photos.
I never make it out to Cheesecake Factory because it’s always so crowded … I’m so happy to see these here! I can’t wait to make them, I think they’ll go great with a big green salad.
Wondering if you ever tried baking inside of frying these?
I am not able to print your recipes from you print button. It brings up a blank page. Help!
This is what I ALWAYS order if I happen to be at a Cheesecake Factory! Can’t wait to try it at home!
Over the top amazing!
What would pair well with this, if i was making a meal?
Like, a Chinese-type salad or a Mexican-type of salad?
Thanks. Looks SUPER yummy 🙂
I just made these tonight and had to come report – absolute PERFECTION! These are so good Chung-Ah! Thanks for the recipe 🙂
Girl these egg rolls are calling my name! Delish! Pinned
Yumm, yumm, yumm! Can’t say anything else! Beautiful photos too!
This is one of my favorite apps! I can’t wait to try it! I just bought egg roll wrappers for the first time!
Making them tomorrow!!!
My stomach actually growled…loudly…while looking at those amazing photos! Looks delicious 🙂
Hi,
Can you please let me know where to find spring roll wrappers?
Thanks a lot for sharing your amazing recipes so other amateurs like me can benefit. I love your blog! Amazing pictures. Great job. Jason is so lucky 🙂 Thanks again.
I’ve been living in the US for a year now but I haven’t been to the Cheesecake Factory yet. I really want to go and I’ll make sure to order these avocado egg rolls. They look so good, maybe I should already make them myself and then go to the Cheesecake Factory to compare 😉
Definitely a delicious roll.. something I would NOT want to share with anyone! 😉
I have no clue what the Cheesecake Factory is but these look delicious regardless!
These sound great! I’m a little confused about the wrapping technique….should all of the filling be completely enclosed in the wrapper, or are the ends open? That seems like it would make for messy frying?? Do you roll it like a burrito? Thanks!
The filling should be completely enclosed or it will just fall out while frying. You usually wrap one corner over the filling, then wrap the ends over the side you first wrapped, and close it with the final corner wetted a bit.
The wrapping technique is almost exactly the same as the traditional way butchers wrap meat in a square piece of paper; the only difference is that butchers tie the roll with butchers’ twine and the egg roll wrapper is sealed by swiping a small amount of water over the inner side of its edge, then sticking that edge down to the finished roll. So with the sides of the roll–the two horizontal points of the square–folded in, the contents of the roll are completely enclosed. That’s why you can toss your hamburger in your grocery cart without having it fall all over the place….
I don’t think I’ve ever had these at The Cheesecake Factory, but it doesn’t really matter because your homemade version look so good! 🙂
I’d got to give these a try. They look so good.
Everything at Cheesecake Factory makes my mouth drool. Have you seen their new reuben rolls? They are amazing!
Happy Tuesday!
You had me at avocado – these look amazing!
Have had the original at the CCF and have always wondered how good would these be if you added bacon. May have to try it now. Thanks for the inspiration.
oh man, these are one of my guilty pleasures for SURE! CF is one of my top restaurant picks of all time. thanks for your recreation! the cilantro dipping sauce is such a fantastic compliment.
le
These are beyond amazing!
I’ve never had these at the Cheesecake Factory…now I don’t need to I can make them at home! I usually always get the Asian Chicken Salad or their salmon. Now you got me wishin we had a Cheesecake Factory close!
You TOTALLY called me out. Not only do I want the last one of these…I want them ALLLL mwahahaha!
These look amazing! I want some right now!
This looks delicious, I’ll be making these! I’m also going to try the avocado mixture inside spring roll wrappers, maybe adding a little shredded lettuce. Thanks for the recipe and excellent pictures!
I tried these in spring rolls because I couldn’t find egg roll wrappers in my grocery store… itwas a disaster! I don’t recommend it.
I just made these using spring roll wrappers… and it turned out Awesome! However.. in Australia we have CheeseCake Factory. .. but you only buy cakes… its not a restaurant. .. so I cant say if they taste the same or not… but THESE WERE AMAZING… I wish I coukd post a pic here….
I LOVE these egg rolls at The Cheesecake Factory, and who knew I could make them at home in only 20 minutes!Obsessed with these. Pinned!
*Stretches out arms reaching for avocado roll* Want! These look wonderful, no wonder you’d be wanting the last one 😀 I can so relate with not taking the last one on the plate, everyone’s always secretly eyeing it up, be it a slice of cake, biscuit, the last chicken drumstick, mmmm!
The only place where it isn’t like that, is at granny’s where she jokes that we’re not going anywhere if we don’t polish it off 😛
Do you think this can be made ahead of time and thrown in the freezer for a quick appetizer? Btw I always love your recipes 🙂
Could you fry these ahead of time(hour before) and keep warm/reheat in oven till time to serve?
Yum! I appreciate that you wrote this recipe to make 8 egg rolls. Perfect portion size for two (or 1 ambitiously…). Your pictures, as always are gorgeous!! : )
Ive never had the real version but would never bother now! I almost never go into the CCF because the line is always out the door. Like on a Tues night in January the wait for a table will be like hours. Ok maybe not quite but it’s always longer than I have patience for. DIY at home is always best!
