PF Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps

A copycat recipe that you can easily make right at home in just 20 minutes. And it tastes a million times better too!
I am such a sucker for lettuce wraps. They are so low in carbs so I become a bottomless pit, stuffing my face without any kind of guilt. And when it’s an exact PF Chang’s replica that can be made in 20 minutes or less – well, that just means I’m having this 5 times a week.
I kid you not. This is the easiest, quickest meal you could ever make. And if you’re quick in the kitchen, you could even get this on the dinner table in less than 15 minutes. Plus, it’s budget-friendly and you can easily double or triple the recipe as needed. What more could you ask for?
PF Chang's Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, diced
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha, optional
- 1 (8-ounce) can whole water chestnuts, drained and diced
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 head butter lettuce
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the chicken as it cooks; drain excess fat.
- Stir in garlic, onion, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ginger and Sriracha until onions have become translucent, about 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in chestnuts and green onions until tender, about 1-2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- To serve, spoon several tablespoons of the chicken mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf, taco-style.

I can’t remember if I have commented yet, so forgive me if I already have. I simply wanted to say that these lettuce wraps are so freaking delish and surprisingly enough, super filling. I do have one important point and that is I have eaten these with ground chicken one time and twice with ground turkey and the turkey, hands down, is the best protein choice by a landslide. That says a whole lot coming from me too as I do Not typically enjoy ground turkey in anything. It’s like the turkey flavor is so neutral that all the other flavors are allowed to come through. The chicken for me tasted strangely heavy and the flavor profile wasn’t very pleasing to me. I highly recommend trying this recipe with the turkey. This recipe is a permanent resident in my recipe files. It’s easy and quick to make and yummy. A win-win
I love this recipe so much. I’m not a fan of water chestnuts, so I replace them with chopped peanuts to get some crunchy texture. Amazing!
This recipe is always a hit in my house, idk why I don’t make it more often.
Such a great copycat recipe.
Perfect all the time. I doubled the recipe because it is just that good. I also added mushrooms to bulk it up because I read another one of the reviews who did that. DELICIOUS!!!!
The best lettuce wrap recipe! I have been making it for a few years now.
Delicious and so easy!
Made this recipe only added 1tsp sriracha-perfect amount -however I tasted before serving and felt it was missing something-I added 2 tblsp hoisin – helped but not there?????
We sprinkled crushed peanuts on servings-
Did not add salt didn’t feel it needed it also sauces had plenty-used gluten free soy.
Very good …. I used finely diced chicken breast, water chestnuts,
red bell pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. I chopped some cilantro for the topping.
I didn’t have butter lettuce or iceberg, so I served it on a bed of Spring Mix. DELICIOUS
Very good replica!
Excellent, easy recipe for a weeknight dinner. Will definitely make again.
I mostly followed the recipe as is, except I browned the onions before adding the chicken. I didn’t have hoisin so I used some oyster sauce, though not nearly 1/4 cup (probably 1-2 tbsp if I had to guess).
I love this recipe and make it all of the time! To make it stretch, I add a bag of finely cut cabbage to this dish. It gives it a little extra veggie too!
I ate this on cauliflower rice and it was DELICIOUS! I doubled the sauce using low sodium soy sauce and found it to be too salty. I also didn’t add the onion or water chestnuts because my husband doesn’t like either. I’m definitely adding this to my weekly rotation. Thank you!!
Used this recipe many times. Works with turkey and pork as well. Fantastic.
The chicken was amazing. I left out the water chestnut but that was the only omission. I tried the butter lettuce wrap and it totally fell apart so I just used a fork kind of like a salad. I’d be interested to see an actual wrap successfully eaten but I will be making it again.
Excellent!
Definitely going to try this! But, I might cook my onions first just for a couple minutes and definitely add the crunchy rice noodles!
Excellent & flavorful and my kids ate it too!
Phenomenal. Like it better when I can make it at home!
Very very good! And very simple to make.
I made this recipe last week and Im back to make it again. Amazing! Better than PF Changs!
The PF Chang’s recipe has apparently changed through the years. It used to have lots of chopped mushrooms in the mix, and included a base of fried rice sticks–those crinkly little white noodle things. The kids always loved to see them puff up and curl when I dropped them into hot oil. We haven’t eaten there in several years since we live quite far from one of their restaurants. They have also dropped several of our favorite dishes.
I very much liked the inclusion of hoisin sauce in this recipe–my old one from the 1970s (predated PF Chang, of course) used oyster sauce, but other details were quite similar. I followed this recipe exactly, except for adding a generous cup of minced mushrooms, using Chinese black vinegar instead of the supermarket rice vinegar, and frying up rice sticks to provide a bed for the chicken filling in the lettuce leaves. Turned out delicious!
How do you make the puffy rice sticks?
My husband were looking for something different for dinner. We are dieting and cutting carbs and this was delicious and super easy to make when when I’m also making a completely different dinner for our 6 kids.
These are a part of our regular rotation. SO good and easy 🙂
Would love to try this Recipe!
These were good but not as good as PF Changs. The hoisin sauce was too overpowering. Maybe you can suggest a specific brand. I love the other ingredients and the crunch of the water chestnuts.
I didn’t have any hoisin at home so I had to substitute. I substituted about a tablespoon and a half of bbq sauce and about 3-4 tablespoons of soy sauce. I used this recipe as a base and added chopped mushrooms, carrots, and chopped sweet/hot peanuts (I omitted the water chestnuts for the peanuts). I added garlic powder, onion powder, umami seasoning, Asian seasoning, and pepper- all to taste. It’s the best version of the PF Changs lettuce wraps I have ever made!!! 10/10!
So you didn’t make this recipe. It’s fine to make a substitution, say oyster sauce for hoisin if you have one and not the other. But when you’re omitting this, and adding that and this, then it’s no longer the same recipe. It might be quite good in its own right, but it’s not this recipe.
I used some leftover shredded turkey. Delicious! Do you have nutritional information for recipe as given? Thanks.
This recipe is amazing! So delicious!
I doubled the recipe because my expectations were high. Kids liked it enough, but it lacked something. I don’t like recipes that specify “salt and pepper, to taste”, which occurs all too often. I’d much prefer a suggestion. I added 3/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper; not enough, in my opinion. Keep in mind that I doubled the recipe amounts. I’m a wanna-be dad cook (chef?) who would love to get feedback on recommended salt and pepper amounts.
The key to “salt and pepper to taste” is to taste your food as you go. Try it before you serve it, and add more if it needs it. In general, Americans fear salt, but adding a pinch every time you add a new ingredient (i.e., when you add the chicken to the pan, when you add the onions, and at the end when you add the water chestnuts) will deepen all the flavors and bring the dish to life.
As another aside, most recipes don’t specify a measurement of salt because every type of salt has a different level of saltiness. A teaspoon of kosher salt will be way less salty than a teaspoon of iodized table salt. All professional chefs agree that kosher salt is the way to go – I prefer diamond crystal kosher salt.
Delicious!! Super easy to make and full of flavor. The green onions and water chestnuts were stars! I’ll definitely be making these again.
I can’t get enough of this recipe!!! No joke! The flavor is awesome!
Delicious and quick! Will definitely make again. BF said he could eat it all the time.
Just made this tonight! Omg!! I followed the recipe exactly (didn’t use the optional siracha) and these taste just like PF Chang’s!! Thank you
Made this and it was just okay, didn’t love it. If I was going to make it again, I’d probably alter the ratio of hoisin and soy sauce (more soy, less hoisin) and maybe add sesame or peanut oil for added flavor.
I’ve been making this for years. So easy and SO damn delicious. Since I have celiac I found gluten free hoisin sauce (at Sprouts) and use tamari instead of soy sauce. Nothing is lost. So so good.
This is one of my favorite dishes to make. I add extra soy sauce and sriracha and some peanuts to give it a crunch.
So, so good!
This has become a regular in our house. I did make some tweaks. We cook whole pieces of chicken, then run them through the food processor to chop it into very small pieces, which is much more like Chang’s. We usually add carrots and onions as well. The carrots, onions, fresh ginger and water chestnuts all get run through the food processor to chop it very small.
This is also a great make-ahead meal! Just reheat the cooked filling in a non-stick frying pan or in the microwave. If it’s too dry, I just add a little water to re-moisten it while heating. It also works great kept in a slow cooker for a party.
We like this with a drizzle of Sweet Chili sauce on top.
This recipe was delicious! Everyone enjoyed it. It’s easy to make and taste wonderful
Takes exactly like P.F. Chang’s lettuce wraps!
Thank you!
Made these as directed and they were incredible! Husband loved them too. I did find the amount of rice wine vinegar to be a bit powerful for my tastes, so I just added a little more hoisin and soy to my own preference. If you’re not a big lover of vinegar, maybe cut the recommendation in half. Definitely damn delicious!
I live in a small rural town and there’s nowhere for me to get lettuce wraps. This recipe has really been life changing for me. I added grated carrots because I had a bunch of them. It was so easy and quick! I’m upset that I just found the recipe.
Love this! Make it often!
I also add chow menu noodles for the crunch.
I’ve made this a few times and am always thinking of ways to tweak it. I added a little onions, diced carrots, mushrooms, sesame seed oil, and some chopped cilantro at the end. I use butter lettuce and made a peanut sauce to drizzle on top. Yummy one thing about this recipe. You can change it to your family’s liking.
A family favorite! I had a slightly different recipe a few years backs. I like this better overall but I do tweak a few things. I use sesame oil in lieu of olive oil. Sometimes I use ground turkey. I also add match stick carrots at the end to give some crunch! We also like romaine lettuce as let’s more like eating a taco. Oh so yummy!
Delicious! I used turkey instead of chicken and it taste great.
Easy & fast meal! It’s sooo yummy. We’ve been making this recipe for quite some time. We usually add rice to make the meal more filling. Definitely recommend!
I have made this several times — it turns out great every time. I use ground turkey instead of chicken and it’s delicious. During COVID supply chain issues I couldn’t find water chestnuts, so I diced some carrots and cooked them in… not quite the same crunch but it was still good. I recommend 110%!
Damn tasty, indeed! I cooked this, and it was great. The recipe was simple to follow. I’m still giving it 5 stars, however as I bit into it, it fell apart. “This is missing a crunch,” I remarked. “Yeah, it’s missing the crispy noodles,” my spouse replied. I’ll get these next time and include them. I also omitted the ginger because I dislike it. Even so, the results were fantastic. I will cook this again and again.
Easy and fast to make and PERFECT! LOVE IT! Since I don’t use soy sauce I substitute Coconut Aminos and it works great! It’s also great over sticky rice for a more hearty meal 🙂
LOVE this!!! Soooooo good!
Great recipe, but too much ginger. Next time I make this, I’ll try 1 teaspoon .
This is the second time I’m making these. My family loves them.
Two questions, can I make the filling the day before? and
Will it work to substitute tofu for the chicken for our vegiterian?
I added mushrooms finely chopped. Any other suggestions for the vegetarian?
Huge hit. Made them two days in a row for my 12 year old and sister. Very easy, fast and delicious!
Absolutely love this recipe. I’ve made it many times and it’s always delicious
Easy and DELICIOUS! I didn’t have green onion or Sriracha, but it was still yummy. Will definitely make this again. I sent it to my family & told them to try it – they won’t be disappointed!
Sooo goood! Made this tonight & will be on future menus. Thank you.
I wasn’t sure how these would turn out and they far exceeded my expectations! So delicious!
This was very good. Even my picky children ate it. Changes I made: ground instead of minced ginger (less than of course), same for the garlic, no water chestnuts or green onions (because I never like those). Had it on romaine lettuce with a little bit of jasmine rice. We finished it off!!! Thanks for the recipe.
These are amazing!! I used sesame oil to cook with instead of olive oil, subbed liqiud aminos for the soy sauce and added mushrooms. My husband and I ate the whole thing…. woops, lol. This recipe had been saved!!!
This is such an amazing recipe! Gorgeous dinner, and a great lunch the next day. I paired it with some homemade vegetable eggrolls and a cucumber salad. Absolutely delicious!
Was very del
I’ve made these before and I could eat them everyday. So good. How do you keep them hot.
I have been making this for many years. Amazing, easy to prepare. Family favorite
This recipe is fabulous, as good as if not better than PF Chang’s! We love it and it’s so easy to make!
By far the best recipe you can find on the internet. Easy and reliable for busy days. Toddler approved. Yum!!!!
I have been making this recipe for almost 4 years now, since I was in high school. It’s a favorite every single time, and the pickiest eaters, those on diets, etc. I cook for absolutely love it. Making sure the ginger is freshly ground or bought ground is absolutely a game changer for this recipe, but it’s just as good if it’s dried. Cannot recommend making this more!!
I’ve made this MANY times and we LOVE it! This is one of the faster recipes I have but the meal tastes like something that takes a lot of work.
We always have subbed ground turkey for the ground chicken and it still tastes like P. F. Chang to me!
Great as a leftover meal (for one!)
Also, I frequently sneak in about 1 1/2 cups of chopped mushrooms (saute first then set aside) and my mushroom “haters” don’t even notice.
Thanks for a WINNER!!!!
Don’t change a thing. These are absolutely perfect and I loved by all that eat them! Thank you… for this easy and yum-yum recipe
Is there a particular kind of Sriracha? I have been to several stores and the sriracha in the Asian section is sold out, however, they do have it in the Mexican section and it isn’t the same sauce. Please help.
Thank you!
Absolutely perfect! Didn’t change a thing!
Excellent lettuce wraps! Can’t wait to make them again
Easy and delicious
Wow, this recipe blew me away! I can’t stop gushing about how amazing it is. The your step-by-step instructions were so clear and easy to follow, even for someone like me who isn’t a pro in the kitchen.
This was wonderful, only exception was to add shredded carrots and used chicken thighs. I ground the thighs by pulsing in the blender.
Amazing! Came out perfect.
Delicious recipe your photographs are great, make them look more appetizing. Thanks
GREAT recipe! Made these as appetizers and used baby endive leaves for appetizer sized portions. Made as a meal for my parents and was out of peanuts so subbed pistachios- fabulous!
Peanuts? I don’t see peanuts in the recipe.
These were delicious! Only changes I made were doubling the sauce and adding diced up bamboo shoots to the water chestnuts and green onion mixture. I think we’ll be making these at least once a week….and probably tripling the recipe 🙂
This was outstanding and simple to make! Made it twice in one week!
I love chicken wraps! It is nice to try new dishes but since I am working from home, I have nto time for cooking! I will try it on weekend!
I was reading another recipe and realized it wasn’t yours . My favorite recipe I make them all the time. My family loves them. Thank you for sharing.
How is this so good?? The flavor is PERFECT and the directions were easy to follow. It only took about 20 minutes to make, so this will definitely be in the rotation for busy weeknights!
I did add a small handful of shredded carrots per the suggestion of other reviewers (1/3 cup at most), but the sauce amount was still just right.
Great recipe, we added some minced baby bell mushrooms but the only change I would make would be to change the 1 TBSP to 1 tsp of ginger, it was so overpowering that really the primary flavor that came through. If you’re a ginger lover then go for it, for us it was a bit too much
I love this, this is my favourite
SO yummy!!!! I add in canned mushrooms, carrot, celery, bamboo shoots, extra water and chestnuts. I finely chop or grate all of these. I double the sauce ingredients since I add so many extra vegetables.
This was easy to make and even my picky eater liked it.
Excellent – consider stir frying 1/2 cup of peanuts in, finish with toasted sesame oil.
Delicious
SO yummy. I had it with rice and broccoli, will definitely be making again
SO good, used finely chopped chicken thighs vs. ground chicken bc store was out. Also used romaine lettuce bc it’s what we had on hand, still was excellent. So for others in similar positions: these subs work well!
Love the recipe, we added baby bella mushrooms [cremini mushrooms], finely chopped, julienne carrots for color, and a dice of medium-sized white onion. Also, we doubled the sauce so the kids could eat it over rice to be more filling, and the adults watched their carbs and stuck with the lettuce wrap, but we sprinkled cashews and fresh cilantro.
This recipe truly is damn delicious! My husband and I make it at least once a week now and look forward to it every time!!thank you!
These were absolutely DELICIOUS! Making them again tonight (the second time this week!)! Followed the recipe to the letter and was not disappointed whatsoever. Thank you for sharing!
We love this awesome recipe and our grandkids love it too! Quick, easy, and so delicious! We don’t care for water chestnuts so I substitute celery. Thanks for sharing.
My husband is so picky but loved these!!
These are soooo delicious and super easy to make. Love them.
This was DELISH! Will definitely add this to my rotation. I appreciate that it is as easy to make as it is tasty 🙂
This is quite similar to what one can order at PF Changs. Easy to make, taste good and much cheaper to prepare and eat in a relaxed home environment.
It is one we repeat at our house
Absolutely DELICIOUS!! Have made this many times, it’s always so fresh and amazing! I make white rice and put a spoon of rice on the lettuce, then the chicken mixture, and top it with crushed cashews!! Give it a try, you won’t regret it!
I made these tonight and they are insane! I will add these to my weekly lunch prep meals!
My family devoured these! It’s a new favorite for sure. Not only does it taste incredible, but it’s good for you!
Super easy to follow and turns out delicious every time! Great recipe!
I just finished eating this I make it all the time it’s delicious.
Fantastic copycat recipe! Tastes so close to PF Chang’s I thought it was! I’m saving the recipe and looking forward to making it again. So tasty and delicious!
This recipe was amazing my family and I devoured it lol. I would 100% try again, it tasted just like PF Chang . So happy that I could eat this again as the closest pf Chang to my house is an hour away
Great
Great recipe! I didn’t have ground chicken so I thinly sliced and chopped two chicken breasts and it was delicious!
I was craving Changs lettuce wraps and decided to Google and see if there was a copy cat recipe and bingo! I have made these 3 times, and making them tonight for my sister. Amazing how fast they are to make. I use romaine lettuce, as it’s tougher. Will add some shredded carrots this time as some have suggested. These are delicious, and looking forward to dinner tonight!
Really great recipe!! Easy to follow and tastes delicious! We make it every week since I found this recipe!
So, so good! Made one batch with mushrooms and one with diced red pepper for the non-mushroom lovers. Kids and adults loved both versions. Will be making it again, nice and healthy with enough for the whole family.
This is soooo good!! We’ve made it three times now, two times for Dino’s y. E wry one loves it! Just a couple changes. We e used apple cider vinegar instead of rice wine vinegar sometimes. Also we got Pre hopped onions because onions make me cry lol. And we used a minced finger that works. The butter lettuce is a must. And make rice and egg rolls. So yummy!
Just made this for the second time in 7 days. So good. I am so full but can’t stop eating it. I do find that darker/fattier ground chicken works better. Might try pork next time!
Damndelicious is right! Recipe is excellent! I made extra sauce with soy, hoisin, rice vinegar, siracha, & red pepper flakes; whisk it and add as you eat. Mucho damndelicious!!
Great recipe. I have never had the PF Changs version so I have nothing to compare it to but its is very good, I will definitely be doubling the recipe next time. It is also easy and quick to make Ive made this with both ground chicken and ground turkey and it turned out good. I also like to use romaine lettuce because it adds some crunch and it also it acts as a handle.
We ABSOLUTELY LOVE this recipe! I found it a few years ago and we make it at least once a month. We have used other meats like ground turkey or ground pork and they work just fine. We also prefer romaine lettuce, we like how it makes boats. We top the wraps with the crunchy chow mein noodles. I highly recommend this recipe. It is so quick and so delicious.
I have to cook Gluten free so I had to sub out the hoisin sauce plus my kids don’t like straight ginger so I subbed in Iron Chef Orange sauce to replace them and a little extra vinegar. DELICIOUS! My family loved it. Thank you for posting!!
Christine,
San J makes a good gluten free hoisin sauce for future endeavors!
I made these today! Very good!
I didn’t have hoisin so I used oyster sauce, added mushrooms finely minced because that’s what PF Changs does and it gives a good umami flavor.
Will make again!
This was FABULOUS! I’m not one for wraps, but this made an incredible topping for salad. So easy and quick and very tasty!
I’ve been making these for years! Such a staple in our healthy eating home. 🙂
So, so good! Made one batch with mushrooms and one with diced red pepper for the non-mushroom lovers. Kids and adults loved both versions. Will be making it again, nice and healthy with enough for the whole family.
This is so good!! I added chopped up mushrooms to it while cooking the ground chicken and then drained after the chicken was done. This recipe is excellent and my whole family loved it!!
These are amazingly simple and are very good!! First time I made them I used pickled ginger because that’s what I had on hand and it worked fine so I think I’ll stick to it. I have used both Chinese lettuce and Butter lettuce. The Chinese lettuce is more substantial for holding together but I just made them on NYE for a party and the Butter lettuce was the perfect size for arranging on a platter – but the leaves are thinner so they’re a little harder to manage because they fall apart easier. I do include the (optional) Sirracha sauce as it’s not really a lot and it gives it a slight kick. I have people from the party asking me for the recipe which is always a good sign!!
Hay going to fix it with a friend will let you know how it is
I specifically got all the ingredients for it today and gave it a try this evening. Typically, I’m not big fan of either soy sauce or hoisin sauce, but I loved the taste and feel they fit perfectly in the mix here. Making them again tomorrow, using ground beef this time and experimenting with some of the other ingredients. We’ll see how it goes. 🙂
Absolutely delicious, I have been making this recipe for a long time now… but I add diced up mushrooms also, it’s a huge hit in my home!
This looks awesome! I make your sweet potato, black bean, and feta frittata all the time and also use it as a base for my own creations – so I’m excited to try this as well. For the reader saying this is not low calorie, I guess it all depends on your definition – I calculate this at around 220 calories / serving if divided into 6 portions, which sounds pretty light to me. I usually serve frittatas like this for dinner with some green salad, though potatoes or toast is nice if you want some carbs.
Easy and delicious!
Wow! This recipe was so flipping fabulous! I doubled the recipe and only had 1/2 of 1 serving bc my stomach was removed due to cancer, so I can’t eat that much. I told my roommate to help himself, and when I went back for the other half of serving, the entire pan was gone! He shrugged and said, “it was so good; I couldn’t help it!” I’ve been craving them ever since, so making it tonight! Can’t wait til my son is home for winter break; his face will brighten up so much! Lettuce wraps are one of his favorite things and with my ailing health and my early retirement and long term disability along with a college student don’t allow for extra anything, so we haven’t been to a restaurant in ages. Thank you so much for making an Asian recipe that is so easy to make at home! ((Hugs))
OMG Y’all … I’ve made this several times both with ground chicken and ground pork and pork is where it’s at! It’s a more hearty flavor with the Hoisin sauce vs. chicken … I totally mince more garlic and green onions and I add the chestnuts and the green o’s towards the end for the crunch and fresh flavoring of the onions as well a little more Hoisin sauce… Additionally, I add fresh rice noodles to the mixture and stir them in, but cut them into bite size so they will spoon into your lettuce easier … I make my own concoction of a hot sauce and add that to my lettuce wrap but siracha is a good choice too …
I made this yesterday, and it banged so hard! Next time I’ll add more vegetables to this recipe (personal preference). I’m going through your other recipes, as this one was such a blast.
10 stars. Made this four times. Once with chicken, once with beef, once with turkey. All pretty good. Personally I double the hosin sauce because I like it, andd a grated carrot, and garnish with cilantro. But. The absolute best was when I seared some ahi tuna then rough chopped it and served it separately to combine in the lettuce cups at the table. The ahi stayed rare (my preferred way) and I got all the yummy goodness of everything else. This is my go to recipe. Fast. Easy. Tasty.
Delicious down to the piece. My wife and daughter like it better without the ginger and the water chestnuts diced rather than sliced.
Couldn’t find hoisin sauce. What could i use to substitute ?
I make this once a week now and triple the recipe. My wife loves it and she is a very picky eater, 10/10 one of my favored recipes!
I only had ground turkey instead of ground chicken and the recipe came out amazing!! First time trying these two! Thank you for sharing, will be eating these weekly! Ha!
We LOVE these and have made them numerous times. They are delicious and super easy to make. They are even toddler approved!!
Awesome I have made this so many times and always a hit! Everyone wants the recipe. And it easy!
These are AMAZING. I make them once a week, and double the recipe and there are only two of us I don’t even measure anymore I have made it so much. I add 2 giant handfuls of spinach, chopped, at the end, mix and let wilt, for a little extra nutrients. Favorite recipe in my arsenal.
Wow. I was just looking for a random lettuce wrap recipe and google took me to this one – my country doesn’t have PF Chang’s so I was going in blind – and I’m glad I did. It was utterly delicious! I made it with ground pork because it’s either that or beef in the stores here, but I can see it would be amazing with chopped chicken thighs, crumbled tofu or even green lentils. I upped the ginger and the green onions amd used a yellow chili sauce because that was the only pepper paste we could find. This filling was perfect with the lettuce but I could see it being a nice indulgence on rice or tossed into lo mein or egg noodles or wrapped with glass noodles in a rice paper square or if the liquid was evaporated more it could be used as dumpling filling. I can see many options for this one, so thank-you for putting it out on the interwebs.
My sons and I LOVE this recipe! I make it often and take it to work for lunch with a side of fruit. I use ground turkey in mine.
This is so quick and easy to make! It is so light and refreshing that me and my boyfriend eat the whole thing ourselves. He has said multiple times that this is the best thing I’ve made him.
The last time I made it I added peppers and jalapenos from our garden and it was delicious.
Okay, these are really, reeeealy good, lol. I am pretty particular with this specific lettuce wrap recipe as I have eaten it at PF Changes way more times than i’d like to admit 😉 I do adjust this recipe by using pork when I am feeling like something closer to the original, but it’s still REALLY good with ground turkey. The one suggestion I would give is for people to use a wok if they have it/ It’s hard to replace that smokey, umami-ish ‘breath of the wok’ flavor without cooking in a wok under very high heat.
This is straight up the best! Forget the lettuce! I could eat the chicken filing just by itself – all of it in one sitting, but incredible self restraint but be employed to avoid excessive calorie consumption. BWT, what are the nutrition details for this amazing delish dish?
good.
Love this recipe! Always looking for ways to incorporate veggies, so I added finely diced red & green pepper plus diced mushrooms (I cook these down before adding to chicken). I added some brown rice for texture and to stretch the mixture for feeding a bunch of people. The sauce is so good!
These are amazing. I sometimes add a dash more of the rice vinegar because I like the acidity, and make this in double batches. It usually doesn’t last more that 48 hours. My husband asks for this meal regularly. It’s SO good.
Can’t wait to cook. Its looks amazing.
Damn delicious for sure!!!
Absolutely love this recipe!! Easy and delicious Always come back to this one and won’t use any other.
Tastes like the real deal, really clear instructions. 10/10!
My go-To recipe. I make this all the time and it is still my favorite, easy, recipe! Thank you.
Love this recipe! I double it and it’s all gone!
Family loves it!
Amazing. This recipe was so delicious. I highly recommend.
I found this recipe last year when I was looking for something different to do with Thanksgiving turkey leftovers. It was so good – even with diced leftover turkey that I tried it a couple of weeks later with the ground chicken and it was exactly like PF Chang’s! I’ve incorporated this into our regular rotation, even somethimes using it as a main dish with rice and steamed veggies on the side.
The recipe is perfect as is, but I can’t leave well enough alone so I substitute chili garlic sauce for the sriracha and throw in some diced mushrooms.
Great recipe! Super flavor & consistency.
Yum! I used gluten free hoisin and soy sauce. Easy quick and delicious.
So good! The right type of lettuce has been hard to find I recently served with rice and my hubby loved it! My boys like to put it in a tortilla instead of lettuce. It’s also great the next day served with mixed greens, sliced cucumbers, tomato’s and a rice vinegrette.
I just made this and it is EXACTLY like Chang’s. It’s delicious!
Super quick and easy to make! Very delicious, highly recommend. I substituted the soy for coconut aminos.
So very flavorful. Better than a restaurant. We like to use those fried rice stick noodles on top. My daughter requests it weekly! Delish. Thanks for the recipe!
SO YUMMY and FRESH! This is a regular dinner meal my husband and I prepare. It is easy, fresh and sooo delicious! I prefer it over PF Chang’s actually.
Fantastic! Easy, quick and super delicious. We needed to use up what ginger we had, so put in a little more than was called for and it was still great. We were also out of Sriracha, so I substituted 1 generous teaspoon of Gochujang and it gave it the perfect “warmth” for my wife who does not do spicy very well. This is definitely what we call “a keeper”, and thank you so much for making this recipe available!
Delish! Mine came out a little dry, I used ground turkey, so I added a couple Tbsp of chicken broth to moisten it a little! Yummy, thanks for posting it
DELICIOUS! My hubs and I really enjoyed this for dinner, along with Pot Stickers (frozen from supermarket) on a hot summer evening. Cut ginger by 1/2, as we like a lighter ginger flavor. Also garnished with additional sliced green onions, because we love them. This recipe will be in our rotation.
Tried this tonight with diced chicken thighs (cut quite small) and everyone loved it! I was hoping for leftovers for work, but I guess I’ll have to pack something else!
It’ll be one of my go-to meals from here in out!
The most incredible lettuce wraps I’ve ever had! I think they’re better than PF Chang’s and so budget friendly!!
Family loves lettuce wraps. Thanks for the recipe. Easy to make and to serve. I used Romaine lettuce as my wrap.
I often use your cookbook.
This is delicious! I have made it several times. The only problem I have is finding the right type of lettuce that doesn’t become difficult to handle. Any suggestions on something else to put the chicken in? Thank you!
Made as directed except used ground turkey as that’s what I had on hand. Very good, quick and easy. thank you.
Can you please share best subsititute to chicken in this recipe
I’d double the water chestnuts and substitute more chopped mushrooms for the chicken.
More crunch and more umami meaty mushroom flavor.
If you were looking for another meat that isn’t chicken, try 90/10 ground beef.
I’ve made this recipe several times using soy curls (hydrated and roughly chopped) instead of chicken. I would guess you could similarly veganize with tvp or crumbled tofu.
Absolutely delicious! Definitely a favorite.
Amazing taste. I would like to see someone chop all that in 10 min though. I spent about 30 minutes getting everything prepared, but definitely worth the effort. I picked up gochujang (my first time) instead of siracha because the store was out. It worked very well with the recipe. That was my only change except to double everything. A lot of recipes just aren’t flavorful enough for me, so I end up adding. This one is super tasty as is. If you haven’t made it before, I would suggest you try it without modification first. Your guests will be amazed. My guests all wanted to know what was in it that made so much flavor. My wife asked me why I haven’t made it before, lol.
Found this recipe randomly, and boy am I glad I did. Basically followed the “rules”, substituting a few ingredients, based on personal preference, and items on hand.
I prefer romaine hearts for the vessels, and used finely diced chicken breasts, for more texture…I don’t like anything that’s ground up.
I can honestly say right here and now…I’ll be eating this at least 2-3nts a week. YES… IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD!
Love the flavors. Only addition I made was one more clove of garlic. Thank you! Will make again. These are great.
I always make 2 batches. One with boneless skinless chicken breasts, cooked & chopped finely. And one with pan-fried & chopped tofu for the vegetarians in my family. It’s a hit both ways! Everyone LOVES it!!
Delicious! Just as I remember it
Easy & great tasting!!!
I found this recipe a few years ago and it has been my go to for a quick and easy meal prep! It’s so delicious!! Everyone who has tried it has fallen in love with it.
Just made these for the first time. Personally I added slightly less fresh ginger. They are really good! A new staple in our rotation.
This receipt is Spot on!!!!! So good I’ve made it a hundred times
Hi,
I just stumbled across this delicious sounding recipe? I was wondering if I could substitute the ground chicken for ground turkey breast?
I’ve used turkey, and it’s still great!
a beautiful meal and so easy! the perfect way to use up a ton of our garden lettuce. only change I made was using slightly less hoisin, a little more rice vinegar, and a modest drizzling of dark soy sauce.
my main tip is to let it cool a bit before serving. piping hot, it wilts the lettuce. but when it’s warm (not stovetop-hot) it kind of congeals and gets super saucy and easy to serve.
I’ve made this many times, and never gotten remotely close to making it in 20 minutes. It’s still a great meal the kids love. I recommend gochujang instead of sriracha if you want to mix it up.
Super easy recipe that copycats PF Changs! You can substitute any of the veggies mentioned for what you have in the fridge. Just adjust cooking time! Carrots, bamboo shoots, chopped spinach or Bok Choy, even corn or bean sprouts! Great with a peanut dipping sauce or your own homemade concoction!
Is it better to use ground chicken thighs or chicken tenders. I grind my own chicken.
Grind it cooked to uncooked first?
I’m soooooo picky… former restaurant owner and lifelong cook and foodie. This is my go-to for quick, easy homemade deliciciousness. I serve mine over brown rice and double the sauce per hubs’ preference. Dammed DELISH!!!Thank you!
wow, that was deeeeelicious! No need to go to PF Changs for lettuce wraps
Excellent, flavorful with fresh ginger, fresh garlic, fresh green onions, fresh onion,
fresh butter lettuce wrap. I favorite light and amazing meal. Make it often.
This recipe is great. Quick tip if you want it to be even lower carb. Use a low/zero carb hot sauce (Asian variety, not a vinegary Louisiana style). You can still use sriracha if you want but if you follow the rest of the ingredients below you may find you don’t need it. Skip the hoisin and add a dash of fish sauce to get a little of that umami you’re missing and brown sugar Swerve for the sweetness at the end (add a teaspoon at a time to reach the sweetness you want) Skip the water chestnuts and use celery but don’t cook until the last minute so they stay crunchy. The carbs will go down to almost zero. It’s delicious both ways. Bon Appetit!
Made it. Loved it. Wished I could post a picture of it.
Such an easy, delicious recipe! Definitely a new staple. Thanks for sharing:)
Tried it added the hot spice it was delicious and I did taste just like P.F. Chang’s lettuce wraps but I think a little better
10/10 would recommend! I wish we doubled the recipe so we could eat more! It was so yummy, will definitely be making it again in the very near future!!
Perfect every time! Restaurant quality recipe here.
Delicious and it was so easy to make. Thank you for sharing. I think I’m at PF Chang’s. 🙂 I recommend.
Really good, we are missing mushrooms from the PF Chang recipe, so I added them.
Delish! Made per the recipe but left out water chestnuts because not a fan and added fresh cilantro—recommend! So good, everyone loved it, thank you!
This is such a great recipe!!! I love it… I’ve made it several times now!!
Damn delicious is right! I made this, the recipe was super easy to follow and it was delicious. I’m still giving this 5 stars but when I bit into it. I said “this is missing a crunch”. My husband said “yeah it’s missing the crispy noodles”. I will buy these next time and add in. I also skipped the ginger, don’t like it. Still came out amazing. Will make again and again.
I have been looking for a chicken lettuce wrap recipe for a while now since my husband loves it and now my search is over! My husband raved about how flavorful it was! This will be in our regular rotation. I love how fast it comes together and that I have the majority of the ingredients handy. Thanks for sharing such an awesome recipe!
I LOVE any Asian cuisine, but this really takes the cake! I definitely modified the recipe with my own personal substitutions (nothing against the chef… It’s just what I do – haha) and it was still AMAZING! I subbed sriracha for gochujang, water chestnut for daikon, added Napa cabbage, added matchstick carrots, and topped with crushed cashews and crunchy vermicelli. I’m also a sucker for Chinese hot mustard… so I dipped my wraps in that.
Overall, FANTASTIC recipe!
Love this recipe! Like other reviewers I miss your homemade hoisin sauce. I even tried to find just it on the Website. Are we missing something? Would love it if you would post the recipe again. Thank you! Yummy stuff!
I made these tonight! Turned out absolutely amazing! I’m not super experienced in the kitchen, but the directions were easy to follow and it turned out delicious.
This was a hit in our house. So easy and so much flavor. I will definitely will make again.
Added diced baby corn, some rehydrated diced shiitake and some diced smoked tofu. This was an absolute winner and goes directly in our recipe book. Thank you!
Love them, best Chicken Lettuce wrap. So Good.
We loved this recipe! It is easy and the lettuce wraps were amazing. I only used half the sriracha, which gave us a perfect amount of heat. These will be a popular add to my Happy Hour appetizers.
This one is good, but the older version of this is much better! Took me forever to find it. We make the sauce that goes with the old recipe all the time and use it for everything. Worth taking the time to find, I promise!
Where should I begin looking
Do you have the link to the old recipe?
Omg licking my fingers
Fabulous recipe. I used ground Thai chicken, carrots and Boston lettuce. My husband absolutely loved it.
Love this recipe, I like to add pineapple pieces and chopped peanuts. Thanks for the awesone deliciousness
Made this yesterday, and it’s a winner! Next time I’ll add more veggies to this recipe (personal preference). I’m going through your other recipes, as this one was such a knock-out.
Awesome dish, spot on flavors and easy to cook and arrange .
One of our favorite meals!!!! We add rice the lettuce wraps to make it go farther with our family! We also love to put peanut sauce over the top! Yummy!
These just fabulous and my 9 year old loved them also .
YUM! I’ve never been to PF Changs before, but these were so tasty. I used ground turkey and added some jalapenos with the green onions and water chestnuts. Delicious!! Will be making this again and again.
Thank You for this easy and very tasty recipe!
Delicious! And so simple to make. I added extra shredded veggies just because that’s my preference, and it turned out amazing. This is definitely on my rotation of simple quick dinners.
Family favorite in this house! Recipe is perfect!!!
I have been looking for a PF Chang lettuce wrap recipe and this looks like the one. However, does anyone know a ‘recipe’ for the added sauce the waitstaff puts together at the table to put on the wrap? Thanks so much.
It is probably a simple fish sauce, minced garlic, and diced spicy peppers put together for a while to infuse. That is the simple Thai dipping sauce that is used in wraps.
I use sriracha, soy sauce, and Chinese hot mustard. Change amounts of each depending on who is eating (how much heat they can take). They looked like the 3 things they used to bring to the table to me and tastes yummy (IMO).
I’ve made this countless times and always turns out perfect. I usually add diced mushrooms and shredded carrots as some have already mentioned. I don’t use ground chicken but buy thin sliced chicken breast and dice it myself, I’m always weary about buying ground chicken not knowing what’s actually in it..easy to cut up when chicken is partially frozen.
I’ve made this several times for my picky kids – I use the butter lettuce and usually make rice and mix it into the wrap. My kids just eat the filling with rice, it works out!! It’s so quick and easy and super delicious!
Absolutely delicious! I omitted the ginger (gives me a headache) and sriracha. I diced chicken breast up since the grocery store is out of ground chicken. Tastes amazing.
no sugar in recipe for lettuce wraps….i commented on jicama the 1st time, did not repeat my comment
My husband and I made this last night, but substituted Gochujang in for the Sriracha and it was delicious. We also added finely chopped carrots and mushrooms as the comments suggested for extra veg. We will definitely be making this again!
So good! A little sweeter than PF Changs but it was a hit!! I can not cook and I was proud with how well this came out. Thanks for the recipe!
For next time I may add less Hoisin sauce and maybe include oyster sauce to cut the sweetness (per another persons review below). I didn’t have sriracha so I added chili flakes and at the grocery store I was not sure whether to get rice vinegar or rice wine… so I went with rice wine (recipe calls for rice wine VINEGAR which they didn’t have).
But again, thank you! I’m glad I have all the ingredients in my pantry now as I will be making this again and again
Love Thai recipe. I didn’t have good luck serving it on the lettuce leaves, but served it over rice. Delicious too!!
Loved these!!
Great appetizer-super tasty! Neighbor brought this over as an appetizer to share. We brought out some Carolina Reaper hot sauce to add for those who were brave. With or without the added hot sauce, this was simply delicious. Neighbor shared the recipe with me so I plan to make it myself soon. Highly recommended!
This was easy and delicious I didn’t have the shrirachi sauce so I subbed Frank’s red hot. But it came out awesome. Thanks!!!
Excellent – stir fry in dry roasted peanuts and top with toasted sesame oil after cooking.
This is the way 🙂
Easy and tastes great!
I’ve made this recipe several times and it is so flavorful! Makes a delicious low carb dinner with minimal effort. I sometimes add chopped bell pepper and carrots for more veggies. The water chestnuts are a must. I had to order on Amazon but they really make the dish pop!
This is amazing!! I doubled the recipe and still wish I had made more! I have 2 somewhat picky teen girls and they both loved it. I will definitely be coming back to this recipe!
Target usually has the water chestnuts.
A lazy day after a big Thanksgiving event, I needed to cook some defrosted year old ground chicken and didn’t want to go shopping.
I substituted store brand bbq sauce for hoisin, 3 celery ribs for water chestnuts, dried chives for green onions and iceberg lettuce for butter. It was delicious.
I look forward to trying actual recipe without substitutions.
These are so so so good!! I added some diced baby bella mushrooms, used chili paste (instead of sriracha), fried some rice noodles to put on the top, and used iceberg lettuce for that extra crunch and let me tell you… *chef’s kiss*!! I also made a separate “vegetarian” version for my husband with tofu instead of chicken and he loved it! It was all super easy too!
Dead on recipe
Made it last night and it was great – My wife and grown son couldn’t get enough – skipped the water chestnuts

Exton Pa
Amazing and easy recipe….. doubled it and it was a huge hit
Tried this at a small casual dinner party. Success and super easy!
Finally got to make this recipe. So easy. Delicious and a fav with the family.wil definitely make it again.Thank you so much
Delicious! I made this last night and we loved it! We will make this again. Thank you!
Please tell me the nutrition facts below the recipe don’t apply to this! Where does the fat come from? Nonetheless they are delicious.
Too much ginger. I had add some brown sugar to even it out.
Perfect, delicious, easy dinner right here. Thank you!
Excellent and easy to make
Thank you for sharing!! I’ve made this 3 times now and absolutely love it for lunch, dinner, and/or leftovers! I add whatever veggies I have on hand but usually shiitake or baby bella mushrooms and carrots, about ¼ cup of each and add them in when I add the onion etc. Super quick and easy. Crowdpleaser!
Easy to make and very delicious. Lunch meal with a bowl of soup.
Decreased the Siracha to one teaspoon and added some shredded carrot for color.
Thank you for the recipe.
I’ve made it about 4 times and each time it just gets better!!! Absolutely delicious
Super delicious! I doubled the recipe because I have a big family and the only thing I changed after doubling it was just used 1 onion and 1/2 tablespoon of Siracha. I have picky eaters and they all enjoyed it!
This is a great recipe! The only thing I added was mushrooms but it was easy to make and quick.
Really came out great. I used a bit more hoisin sauce and only about half the can of water chestnuts and these were a hit at dinner tonight. Would definitely make these again as they are fast and easy to make and really do taste like restaurant food.
This recipe looks absolutely amazing and I am hoping to make it for my family, but my daughter is allergic to chestnuts. Would simply omitting them or replacing them with something else be recommended? Thanks!
Water chestnuts are an entirely different plant than normal tree-nut chestnuts, they come from a grass and are more of a asian marsh carrot, so I’m nearly positive your daughter would be totally fine. If you’re very nervous I’d replace them with carrots as they’re mainly in the recipe to add crunch!
jicama for crunch
Super good! The only thing I did different was used oyster sauce instead of hoisin as I didn’t have any. This was super flavorful and just good. I’m bookmarking this recipe as I will use it again and again and again.
I was wondering if anyone has tried this with ground pork. I live at the beach in FL. Not many choices in grocery shopping. Publix has some reasonably price lean ground pork. I am not a fan of their ground chicken. It was spice/herbs like rosemary. Thanks. I have made this before with chicken I minced up and it was yummy.
Yes, I made them with lean ground pork and they were very good. I just made them for the first time tonight (a test drive for a Thanksgiving appetizer). My grocery store didn’t have any ground chicken. I honestly think both meats are mild in flavor. I’d even try ground turkey.
KAREN (NO NOT THAT ONE!) I had to comment on how you’ve embellished your name! I’ve been wondering how people with THAT name are feeling right about now. You sound like a very fun person.
Anyway, I also substituted the chicken but with Plant-Based Meatless Crumbles, which are made with non-GMO pea protein. I got the idea from Chipotle’s new Chorizo, made with the same. If you season the meatless crumbles well enough, as the sauces in this recipe do, you would not know that you’re not eating meat. I have a couple of daughters who eat vegetarian so I’m always looking for yummy recipes. I’m so glad I found this one!
Great recipe first of all! Couldn’t find ground chicken so I subbed chicken for turkey. They were awesome my daughter asked for this meal again and I was able to buy ground chicken but didn’t the turkey was good and inexpensive. Thanks for this winner!!!
I love this recipe – it tastes even better than lettuce wraps in a restaurant.
This recipe was super easy and had great flavor. I do agree with some of the other commenters though – this was too sweet for my taste. I’d probably use a quarter of the white sugar. Otherwise a great dish, I will definitely be making again! I think I may even add some chick peas or kale next time.
I think you reviewed the wrong recipe? I don’t see sugar even listed in the ingredients.
I think this recipe should call for 1 tsp. of ginger, not 1 tbs.. I followed as directed and the ginger was very overpowering. Now I know for next time. Otherwise, very good! Don’t forget the crispy rice noodles!!
Super easy and very tasty. I add some sesame oil. Not always easy to find ground chicken so we have used ground beef and it still was a hit.
This is a keeper.
I am not known for my culinary skills, but I am a hero with this meal. Everyone in my family loves it and tonight after dinner my teenage son made a point of thanking me for the meal! I grind the chicken in my mini food chopper and it’s perfect. I did shop around for hoisin to find a tasty one with no added sugar. Thank you for sharing this recipe!!!!
LOVE to make these, my partner loves it even more! Thanks for the recipe! I do switch the olive oil for sesame oil and when building my lettuce wrap I put a little white rice, the meat mixture, and add crushed cashews on top! So good!
crushed cashews sounds like a great addition! I’m going to try that tonight 🙂
I made these tonight and my kitchen smelled amazing and the flavor of the recipe was outstanding. Will for sure be in my rotation.
Made these last night and they were so damn delicious! Thank you for the recipe!
Easy and fast! Added some carrot shavings to give it some color too!
Use ground chicken thigh meat if you can find. Better for both texture and flavor. You can easily make your own in a food processor. Agree with sesame oil and/ or neutral oil instead of olive oil. Regardless, an excellent knockoff.
I have made this a few times now, always exactly according to the recipe. the funny thing is, i have never been a fan of water chestnuts, but in this recipe they are perfect! everything is in just the right measurements. even the sriracha. my recommendation is to make this recipe exactly as-is and enjoy every bite 🙂
Legit recipe this will be a staple recipe! The only thing I added a bit more hoisin sauce, reduced onion to half but added more green onion. Used living lettuce and also don’t forget the fried rice noodles! Sealed with a crunch on top and bottom!
Have been making this recipe for a while and love it every time! So good. I sometimes substitute a stir fry sauce for homemade if I don’t have it and always tastes good!
Great flavor, not strong, meaty, cold or hot, meal.
Love this recipe, hadn’t had it in awhile but got some fresh lettuce at the farmer’s market today. It was the perfect lighter dinner!!!
Yummo! This recipe is every bit as good as PF Chang’s! However, with all the chopping it took a little longer than 20 minutes but well worth it!
So delicious and fast. I used romaine lettuce grown from my dad’s veggie garden. Used ginger powder, added red peppers, and followed all other ingredients.
Love you sooo much for sharing this yummy recipe. Have good luck & health.
So damn delicious. We all loved it. Didn’t have ground chicken so, just chopped up chicken breasts real small and used them. Texture turned out same as ground chicken; and the flavor was amazing.
I have made this a lot, but lately the ground chicken in store is through a grinder so looks like worms. I followed your review and diced breasts and we liked the texture better. Good idea!
sooooooo good! even my younger brother who doesn’t really like greens loved it! highly recommended
Sooo yummy. I used garlic powder, minced dried onion and ground ginger. I skipped the green onions. Loved it. Definitely on our regular list now.
I made these and they turned out so good! I didn’t use the Sriracha, but they were still amazing. Very easy and convenient! Will be making again!
Easy recipe and absolutely delicious! Lots of texture and flavor. Will make these again!
Delicious recipe, worked great!
This has been a go to recipe for YEARS! Sooo good and easy! I add a little more ginger, hoisin, and sriracha (sometimes a little more rice wine vinegar depending on the brand). It’s a classic in my household that we will go to again and again!
I just love making and eating these! So simple and yummy!!
This recipe truly was damn delicious! It surpassed our expectations of being just like PF Chang’s Lettuce Wraps – it was even better! A winner in our family’s rotation of dinner ideas!
So delicious and fast. I used romaine lettuce grown from my dad’s veggie garden. Used ginger powder, added red peppers, and followed all other ingredients. This is so tasty, that I will definitely make again. I used a food processor to prepare the chicken before frying.
Just made this. Omg. Every bite is explosion of flavors. Absolutely love it.
I have made this so many times now and it’s the best lettuce wrap recipe out there. You need the sauce though: Sriracha, soy sauce, and Chinese mustard.
Made this with ground turkey and added carrots. Was amazing.
I don’t condone cussing, but when my kids said “holly crap this is good!” I’ll allow it. 😀
I have a question I have rice vinegar, but it says rice wine vinegar…. Can I use mirin? I’m a little confused ! I can’t seem to find “rice WINE vinegar”. Any tips! Thank you
Use your rice vinegar 😉 I did, and it was great!
Made this with ground turkey and added carrots. Was amazing.
We LOVE this recipe! It is even better if you use homemade hoisin sauce ( 2 Tbsp soy sauce,
1 Tbsp peanut butter,
2 Tbsp molasses or honey,
1 teaspoon rice vinegar,
1 teaspoon sesame oil,
1 clove grated garlic, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper,
1 teaspoon miso paste OR 1/4 teaspoon 5 spice powder + 1 tsp. thai chili sauce).
YUM!!!
Is this all you put in it or is this the hoisin sauce recipe?
The BEST!!!…followed recipe and used suggestions from others
1. Sesame oil a must, NO OLIVE
2. Half hoisin, half Oyster sauce( 1/4c total
3. Water chestnuts,Shiitake mushrooms, a pinch of chopped shredded carrots,Greens onions
WOW
Great recipe!! We add chopped mushrooms and chili crisas a condiment;) This is a regular meal inour house. Love it!!
sooooooo good! even my younger brother who doesn’t really like greens loved it! highly recommended
I have ground pork and found this recipe. I’m confused though, can any one answer if the calories listed are for each wrap or the entire batch?
It’s for one serving, which is 1/4 of the whole batch. I don’t know if the head of lettuce is included in those calories, but that’s such a small contributor it doesn’t really matter. So it’s up to you how many individual wraps you make with 1/4 of the filling.
Does it really matter?
Great & quick meal. We have started making it every week or 2. 15-20 min from start to finish. Saves well for lunch the next day. We usually wrap as we eat so lettuce is crunchy whenever you serve it. Damn delicious.
I forgot. My grocery didn’t have ground chicken. I don’t like turkey. I bought ground pork. After all it is the other white meat. I don’t know the calorie count for pork. It was delicious. I did add my cellophane noodles. It was a keeper for everyone. They want this for taco Tuesday.
Taste just like the Chang’s. The only difference is my PF Chang’s has cellophane noodles in it. Not a lot just a little.
Cellophane noodles are SO easy. They come packaged in the grocery store. You put them in hot oil for literally 2 seconds and they swell up and get crispy! They take this recipe to the next level!
Totally hooked best meal ever I can eat it almost every night.
Absolutely spot on Fabulous!!! This recipe is so fantastic and tastes exactly, if not better, than PF Changs. I always use this recipe and double it because I’m cooking for a lot of people and it’s a crowd pleaser for sure! Thank you for sharing! Made it last night and it did not disappoint!
Great recipe!! We add chopped mushrooms and chili crisas a condiment;) This is a regular meal inour house. Love it!!
Thank you for this recipe. I’ve made it about eight times now for my family and it’s always a hit.
Love this, just as good as PF Chang’s recipe! Thanks!
I make these ALL the time! So fast and easy to put together. SO flavorful and we make potstickers to go on the side. One of our favs!!
Made this for part of an all-apps dinner, husband said “Company Dish”
I can’t believe I waited so long to make these. I had see this recipe a while ago and always wanted to make it. I am trying to eat healthier so I pulled this one out. This is so delicious. So easy to make. These reheat well. It made enough for dinner and lunch. Don’t wait like I did. I will not wait so long to make again.
This recipe is damn delicious! I’ve made it a couple of times! I freeze in little containers so lunch is always ready!
I simply loved making this recipe. I will be making this again next week.
Easy, fresh and yummy!
Yummiest. We’ve made it 3 times in 5 weeks.
Great recipe, copy cat or not. It’s a one pan meal that turns out incredible! I think it would be really difficult to mess it up!
Thank you so much, because I’ll admit that I am not a person who can eat something & tell you how it was made.
Really like this recipe and easily scalable for larger groups. If your on a clean30/whole30, swap in some raw almond butter (2 tbsp) for hoisin and coconut aminos for soy sauce.
A different flavor but the almond butter adds a nice richness.
This was SO delicious!! My husband can’t stop talking about it! Thank you for sharing!
LOVE LOVE!! I’ve made this many times for our family. So Good!! Although, I do quadruple the sauce ingredients (except the siracha, easy on that one) because, I double this recipe. This is a great meal for leftovers and prep meals.
…..also, add shredded carrots…
This recipe is delicious! I tried a different recipe for lettuce wraps before making this one, and while that one was ok this one was way better, and I incorporated a few elements from the first recipe and the result was perfect!
Soooo good! You don’t need salt though, the soy sauce and hoisin are salty enough. I served with baby corn and shredded purple cabbage for a little extra crunch!
Good recipe but not true to PF Chang’s. Add the Chinese cellophane to the top. and mushrooms in the chicken and I think it’s missing fish/ oyster sauce to be true copycat
This recipe is delicious! I tried a different recipe for lettuce wraps before making this one, and while that one was ok this one was way better, and I incorporated a few elements from the first recipe and the result was perfect!
I double this recipe, and added 1/4 Cup oyster sauce, 1 tsp of fish oil along with the other hoisin sauce and instead of Sriracha I used 2 spicy red chili’s (I folded them once chicken was browned and before all the sauce)
Will making this for years to come!
Thanks
R
Fish oil, or fish sauce?
Super quick and easy!! Favorite of everyone’s!
I make this recipe for more more tha one year now and we still like it a lot
Are these really tasty lettuce wraps? Yes. Do they taste like PF Changs? No.
I love lettuce wraps and this recipe is easy and delicious. I use sesame oil instead of olive oil, and I do add some chopped mushrooms and carrots to the mixture, also, to give it a little extra texture. I also use sambol oelek (chili paste) instead of Sriracha. I make this recipe over and over again. It is damn delicious.
This is a great recipe. Absolutely delicious
OMG! I’m really bad about actually leaving reviews. However I woke up this morning wanting to eat the leftovers for breakfast! I’ll wait for lunch though lol. This dish was AMAZING! packed full of flavor! As suggested by another reviewer I used sesame oil in place of olive oil. I also sprinkled crushed roasted peanuts on top of each serving. I will be making this again and again and again!
You had leftovers?? I wish…mine were eaten in seconds!
Damned Delicious!!!!! Easy to make and tastes great. The store didn’t have ground chicken so I used turkey and it was so good. Can’t wait to try it with chicken and will double or triple next time.
I forgot. My grocery didn’t have ground chicken. I don’t like turkey. I bought ground pork. After all it is the other white meat. I don’t know the calorie count for pork. It was delicious. I did add my cellophane noodles. It was a keeper for everyone. They want this for taco Tuesday.
Just tried this – quick, simple and absolutely delicious! Thanks so much for sharing 🙂
Every time I make these (about once a month, great recipe), and use the hoison sauce, I always find myself singing: That sauce is hooooisooooon… (That girl is poison, anyone?) My wife is tired of hearing it.
Hahaha omg! Now I can’t stop hearing that!! I will definitely be singing that in my head when I make these tonight!
This recipe is amazing though, and I do make it at least twice a month!
Omg love the song reference!!!! Lmao
Making these tonight for who knows how many times but it’s been a while. I will now sing this any time I do anything with Hoison.
These are good but they are not like PF Changs. Too sweet. Something is missing.
It is because if you look up the allergen info for these, the P. F. Chang’s website lists shellfish. It appears oyster sauce, not hoisin should be used. Hoisin is very sweet, and oyster is less. It also lists sesame, so I would think using sesame oil instead of olive oil will be a better option too. I am going to test it out with these changes this weekend. Hopefully it won’t taste like candied chicken this time lol.
Fantastic recipe!! I do a lot of cooking for my adult children’s freezers. This recipe has been a huge hit. I followed the suggestion someone else made for freezing and I do not put in the green onions or chopped water chestnuts. (I give them cans of the chopped water chestnuts, so they are set except for the lettuce and green onions.) First time I made it I used olive oil, as specified. Next time I used sesame oil. EVEN BETTER! I add the chopped onions to the pan when the chicken is halfway cooked…that way there isn’t a chance of chicken getting dry before onions are cooked enough. Once chicken is cooked, then I add everything else. I also love the suggestion someone made of using celery instead of the water chestnuts, because I always have celery. When making this for the hubs and myself, I keep that in mind. Great recipe DD!!! Thank you for posting it. 🙂
Can I be your adult child?? Love that you do this for your kids!! I always follow recipes exactly because I’m not great at knowing substitutions, but I’m going to definitely use sesame oil and celery after reading your review! Thank you!!
I was out of Hoisin so substituted Oyster sauce & some honey, and added chopped mushrooms to the mix. Delicious!
Family favorite that we’ve been making for a couple years now! So easy and delicious!!! We usually double the recipe so we can have leftovers. Thanks so much!!!
I make this once a week!! So yummy! Just wondering, the nutrition facts, how big is the serving size? Or is this per wrap??
Packed full of flavor and really is so quick!
Subbed ground turkey for ground chicken but kept everything else the same. Will be making again. Even my 6 year old liked it. Another DD winner!
Everyone I’ve made this for has loved it! So tasty and freezes well!
I’ve been making this recipe for no less than 7 years, and it comes out amazing every time. I’ve never fed this to someone that didn’t fall in love for it- big hit with my boyfriends kiddos, and easily adapted for keto people 🙂
This was a great recipe. I didn’t have Hoisin sauce so I used chili sauce with garlic instead. It tasted great. I also added shredded carrots. Delicious.
Daring Gourmet has a super easy recipe for homemade hoisen sauce that’s super good. This recipe is great but I’m going to use the homemade hoisen sauce recipe from now on because it’s way better than the store bought stuff
Wonderful, didn’t have any hoisin sauce so substituted mix of mirin, soy sauce and balsamic vinegar. We crave this recipe now!
5 stars every time!! I have been coming back to this recipe for years and I only thought now to finally leave a review. This has been a bookmark staple recipe and each time I make it it’s always perfect. It always turns out it’s finest though when I ground my own chicken. Which if you would’ve asked me years ago I would’ve said that’s too much work but now it’s as simple as taking chicken breasts and throwing them an a tiny electric food processor/chopper I have and pulse it a few times and the chicken is perfect for this recipe. I don’t grind it up until it’s mush so I have little marble size and smaller chunks of chicken. I haven’t ever had water chestnuts on hand But I imagine this recipe would be even more amazing if I followed it to a T.
This recipe is amazing and taste identical to PF Chang’s lettuce wraps. I have been craving this dish and I am so delighted I can now make it at home. I made it for my son and I and we made a double batch so he could have left overs. It is one of those meals that is so easy you will definitely impress your friends if you choose to invite them over for this meal. Guys this is a good meal to impress a date with!
I made this with tempe and now it’s a staple for me and my vegan boyfriend.
This recipe is everything I need right now! What hoisin sauce did you use to ? I noticed the recipe states the sodium is only 331 mg per serving, which is great. I’ve never cooked with it before and I’m looking to keep this on the lower sodium side so.
I made these with morning star crumbles and it was delicious. I subbed rice wine vinegar with apple cider vinegar as well. I have not had the P.F. Chang’s version in a long time as I have been vegetarian for many years but with these changes it was very good. Would 100% make again and it was east to make.
So good!! My boyfriend does not like any type of Chinese or Asian cuisine, but he loved this (I was shocked). I’ve made this twice now and it’s been amazing both times. Super easy, always delicious and definitely budget friendly. If you’re looking for leftovers-I’d recommend doubling. 10/10!
This came out AMAZING. I had to make a few changes though. I didnt have ground chicken so I used chicken breast. Once it was cooked I chopped it up until it was like it was ground chicken. I also did not have water chestnuts but I did have peanuts. I chopped them and threw them in at the end. I also had a bag of broccoli coleslaw that I threw in at the end to add more crunch and veggies. I have to say this came out better than I had expected. Great recipe!!
This was delicious! I always try to add veggies to ground meat dishes, and I added a finely diced yellow bell pepper and two finely shredded carrots to the mixture. I couldn’t even tell that there were extra veggies in there with the strong (good) flavor of the sauce, so I will definitely continue to do this.
Here in germany, getting Hoisin can be quite a task – but Oyster Sauce is widely available. Would this be a good sub? I know it won‘t be the same though..
You can make your own hoisin sauce with ingredients that are easier to find!! I just did it the other day, I think through “half baked harvest” food blog. Though, this one might have a recipe also! At the very least google it! I don’t think oyster sauce would lend the same flavors as hoisin.
I tried this recipe last week and it was just as amazing as everyone says. I used ground turkey instead of chicken and I added matchstick carrots for extra crunch per one reviewer’s recommendation. Will definitely make again
Just made this dish and it was excellent…….I’m following noom, and it fits in very well with calorie budget….lowered salt by using lo salt soy sauce….Great taste will use it frequently.
So. Damned. Good! Thank you!!! I’m in a good food desert and am trying to make all my once accessible faves at home. This REALLY hit the mark. Thanks again!
I have made this recipe a few times now and love it! It is a quick meal that tastes delicious!
I love this recipe…I crunch up cashews or almond and add them to the wrap as well as match stick carrots…gives it a little more crunch and freshness.
Made this for the fam and everyone loved it. There were NO leftovers. I will most definitely be making this again!
House and guest favorite. I make it exactly the same except substitute celery for water crestnut. I’ve been using this recipe for years.
This was great! Very delicious.
Excellent! We live way too far from PF Chang to get delivery. It was outstanding and I thought just a tad different than PF Changs, but my husband nailed it–I did not add salt and cut the soy sauce in 1/2. But the flavors are outstanding and I would never have guessed there were water chestnuts in it but other recipes I have tried leave them out and that leaves out the crunch! This will be our lettuce wrap recipe from now on. Thanks!
I have used this recipe for YEARS and it never disappoints. I have a stained printed paper copy in my kitchen that I pull out every time. I normally have to change an online recipe to make it suitable for me and I do not have to with this one. You will not go wrong. Of course over the years I have changed it a bit not because it needed it but because I found a better ingredient. I use Jing’s Sichuan Crisp instead of Siracha and I think the flavor it wonderful. Both works so use what makes you happy. I also choose to chop up my own meat and prefer thigh over breast. I don’t like the texture of machine ground chicken myself. Thank you for providing this fantastic recipe. May I have your permission to put a link on my blog?
Have never had the “real thing”, but these are DANG delicious! A real crowd pleaser— so much that I double the recipe for 4 of us. Do offer Bibb and romaine lettuce because sometimes the Bibb isn’t quite strong enough to hold all the good stuff we pile on! Thank you for sharing this new family favorite! Also, fun meal to make with the family.
This was awesome! So easy to make and delicious! My store had diced canned water chesnuts which saved me a minute. This is going to be a regular meal for us!
Absolutely delicious and nutritious! I will definitely make this again.
Amazing, so easy to make and better than PF Changs!
This was a great recipe! Not difficult to make & delicious! I will definitely be making it again!
I have made this three times now. The first two times, I diced chicken cutlets thinking that would make them more “P.F. Chang like”. The third time, I used the ground chicken as the recipe calls for. Oh. My. Gosh. The ground chicken makes a huge difference. My kids could not stop eating them. I went back for thirds. At the end of the cooking process, I added a good tablespoon of hoisin, an extra splash or two of soy sauce, and a good squeeze around the pot of sriracha, but we like our food a little bit saucy and spicy. I always order lumpia from our favorite Filipino bakery to go with our lettuce wraps because… well… the kids love lumpia. This time, however, the lettuce wraps were the star of the show! If you have not made this yet, do so!
I made these wraps and they came out really well. I pretty much followed the recipe but replaced mushrooms with cooked leftover white rice. I did not have ready made hoisin sauce, but used a recipe to make it.
The recipe steps were ckear and beginner like me was able to prepare easily.
My daughter and husband loved it.
I will make it again.
Made this for dinner this week. Both my guys loved it. Hasn’t been a week yet and they’re asking fir it again. That doesn’t happen often.
Love this recipe! It’s so easy to make and is a hit every time.
Amazing recipe! I didn’t have Siracha but it was so good!!!
Quick and easy! Make sure to have all of your ingredients chopped and ready before you start. It’s quick and delicious.
This is the one thing I always order at PF Changs – and I liked this recipe even better. I tripled it and served it at a family gathering and it was a huge hit. THANK YOU!
My family and I have been craving this all quarantine. I’m a teenager and enjoyed making it! The only thing I did was added extra hot sauce, but otherwise it’s great!
I made these lettuce wrap for my husband and he loved it and so did I. I will definitely make again.
Loved it! So tasty and satisfying.
Always make this when I’m craving Asian flavours. So simple yet flavourful.
Love this recipe, I have made it over and over. thanks!
Thanks for this recipe. I tried it tonight and it was delicious and a definite hit with my family!
So good and so easy! My kids always love when I make this. Thank you!
These were so good and literally took 15-20 min max all together. I followed it step by step adding a tad bit more low sodium soy sauce but besides that I copied it exactly. Paired these with some rice and hot chili sauce. Will be making again for sure
Thanks a million for this recipe! My family loved it! Because we are not big in spicy food, I substituted the sriracha sauce and replaced it with a sweet (and mild) chili sauce. Amazing! You are the best!
I completely forgot to rate this. 5 stars!!!
Thanks a million for this recipe!!! It was amazing. Since we’re not big in spicy food as a family, we substituted the Sriracha sauce to a sweet (and mild) chilly sauce and it this became a hit! We all love it!
This looks so yummy and delicious. I think my son will love it.
Delicious and so easy to make!
So easy and tasty. Such a quick and easy meal.
I used ground pork as i did not have chicken.
I baked won-ton wrappers in muffin tins ( as i did not have bib lettuce. cooled and filled. It was great. anxious to make again using lettuce. It is 3.5 H RT to a store for me so have to improvise often.
Thanks for a great recipe.
And yes we used a variety of dipping sauces to drizzle over each ..
It is so easy to throw this recipe together and it is ALWAYS a hit! We prefer crunchier lettuce so I use romaine which is sturdy and easy to hold and eat. Also, I serve the wraps with a bowl of dipping sauce on the side— bottled PF Chang Kung Pao sauce from the grocery store. It takes the recipe to another level.
Easy to make & DELICIOUS! My kids keep asking for more 🙂
Family favorite
AMAZING!! SOOOO tastey and healthy! Highly recommend.
Best recipe and one of my gotos!! So healthy and flavorful. Could not recommend more. I sometimes add cabbage and make an “eggroll in a bowl” version!
Great Idea!
Amazing!!!
Made these tonight and they were delicious . As others suggested, added mushrooms and carrots. Next time I will add some red bell peppers.
Thank you for this awesome recipe. A keeper for sure
Nice recipe, I added more heat, with siracha, 1/2 chopped jalapeño, chopped mushrooms , also added a tap of cornflour mixed with cold water and cooked at end, gives a nice shine and some thickness. Do t forget the fried rice noodles to top it with.
Excelente dish in a few minutes!!
It’s my second time making this. I made it a few weeks ago and didn’t have water chestnuts and I added celery and carrots. Yum. I thought the recipe had fish sauce? Was the recipe edited? I really loved it before I just didn’t remember how much to out so I didn’t add it.
The 8 gram of sugar is for the whole meal right?
Print Recipe option shows weird characters instead of the recipe, btw the photos are so good and are tempting me to try the recipe tonight.
Don’t even mess around, double this recipe because it’s that good and you can always have them for leftovers or for lunch the following day. This is a delicious dish that I will esily add to my meal rotation. I think they would also be a perfect appetizer if you can find firm petite romaine lettuce.
The nutrition facts listed are for per serving.
Delish!! We added some finely chopped peppers for some more veg. Will definitely add to the recipe rotation!
Good, but really missed the mushrooms that are in PF Changs recipe. Not necessarily for flavor, but it adds a HUGE textural component that this recipe lacks. While the flavors are spot on, downright delicious, actually, texturally it was just slightly off. I will definitely make this again, but add chopped portabellas to the party.
I, too, wanted mushrooms. The PF Chang’s version used to include shitake mushrooms, but I think they may have gone to ordinary button mushrooms in recent years. I went with a few fresh shitakes and also used Chinese chili garlic sauce instead of sriracha. My small town supermarket is full of Chinese sauces that make better choices and taste more authentic than American-Thai sriracha. I might try chili sesame oil next time.
We thought it tasted VERY good, with only the 2 tweaks I mentioned.
This was so good and easy to make! My husband thought I used some type of PF Changs meal kit and didn’t believe I made it myself. The only change I would make is to use iceberg lettuce, which is sturdier than the butter lettuce.
I did make the side sauce that I saw in one of the reviews, since I had most of those ingredients out anyway. It was good but the recipe is still great on its own.
This dish will definitely be part of my regular rotation.
This recipe was very good; however, I wouldn’t say it tasted exactly like PF Chang’s lettuce wraps. I used ground ginger and didn’t have an water chestnuts. I don’t know that that would make much of a difference though. Also, I didn’t even know that ground chicken was a thing…it is a pleasant surprise. I would make this recipe again, but I am still on a quest to conquer the PF Chang’s recipe.
Made these tonight and soooo much better than the ones at PF Chang’s. I really don’t like ground chicken so I used skinless, boneless chicken tenders. Cooked them first, took out of the pan and cut into bite size pieces and then followed recipe. Added chopped peanuts on top because they’re YUMMY!
This recipe was very good! I would definitely make it again. It’s easy to add in any vegetables you have in your fridge. I recommend adding bean sprouts and shredded carrots as toppings. Next time I’m going to try adding sliced zucchini or cucumber.
This is so good! I usually add a little extra heat, but the flavor is absolutely wonderful!
grandkids love it! So does Grandpa.
This recipe is amazing. I prepared the chicken lettuce wraps for a gathering of my fiancee’s (3) close girlfriends last night, and they were amazed. One of the comments was that they are much better than PF Chang’s. Thanks so much for sharing this Damn Delicious recipe!
really good. does anyone know how many wraps would be considered a serving? i really need an accurate calorie count.
These were delicious and so satisfying. I filled up and felt guilt free. It was so nice being full but not feeling gross and I actually enjoyed the meal which is the best part because it’s a healthy alternative. Highly recommend. I also used ground ginger instead and it came out just as delicious.
how much ground ginger please?
This recipe is wonderful. I did not add the sriracha, and served it on Trader Joe’s jicama wraps. Perfect!
What a great recipe! Thank you so much for sharing it. My husband loved it and was so simple to make. We have to agree with you on being better than PF Chang’s.
I deal with a very picky mother and sister so when cooking dinner, I usually have to end up making pasta every night which drives me insane. (I do love pasta but after a while it gets tiring.) Hoping to please them when I go over next by making this recipe. I’ve made this recipe with my grandmother twice and we absolutely love it. With school starting for me soon I won’t have time to cook often and know this recipe will be helpful as I tend to take longer than the original recipe states. (Never has happened with this recipe though)
I am gonna try it! Yemmyyyyyyy
Thanks for sharing this lovely recipe
Terrific recipe. I added some zucchini and mushrooms.
Made this for dinner tonight and it was, in fact, damn delicious. Even my picky kids liked it and ate it without complaint. This is one of my and my husband’s go-to orders at Chang’s, which is unfortunately fairly far away, so this was definitely just like being there. Thanks for another winner!
These turned out super delicious. I altered the recipe by using sesame sauce instead of hoisin and added some shredded carrots for color. The butter lettuce makes for the perfect wrap. A great alternative to our traditional Taco Tuesday.
Looks like a simple and delicious recipe. I think I will try it in the weekend.
My go to recipe for lettuce wraps! No fail, absolutely delicious, consistently good every time. I bet this is your #1 post for your analytics!
Super good recipe and an easy dinner. I added shredded carrots and topped with finely chopped peanuts.
Delicious! I knew this was going to be good just from the smell in my kitchen while it was cooking. Thanks for the great recipe!
This is delicious! I used a small electric chopper to grind the chunks of boneless skinless chicken breast before cooking, it worked great. This recipe tastes just like PF Chang’s, costs less, quick to make and feeds more! Thank you
Amazing! I made mine gluten free and they tasted just like PF Chang’s- excellent recipe. I will definitely make this again.
We do rice, shred lettuce on top and then do the meat mixture! Easy and delicious!
How do you make it gluten free?
GF soy sauce and GF hoisin sauce are the only things you need to alter.
Just made this for lunch.. I was craving yesterday and stumbled upon this recipe.. I had ground turkey instead of chicken, and used garlic chili paste instead of sriracha had the 2 replacements on hand.. yum will def make again!
Absolutely delicious. The whole family enjoys this recipe.
Delish!! Everyone enjoys this wonderful dish…so good for your figure, too!
Loved this recipe but felt it needed a little boost at the end in the lettuce cup so, added chopped salted cashews and cilantro, (the idea came from an Epicurious recipe), really brought the flavors to life!
I hate when tasty food takes little to no time to make because it’s so easy to eat it too often and usually it’s high on carbs :). This one is quick to make but low on carbs so I’ll be without any kind of guilt as you are…Thank You!
So simple, yet so tasty!
For those who love cilantro, add to the wrap and it’ll make big difference. You think this recipe is great as is, but after having it with cilantro, this original recipe seems like an A- compared to an A+ with cilantro.
Agreed
Simple and easy best combo
Love this recipe! Can I change to chicken breasts? Thanks!
I came here from your instagram page. I made this recipe yesterday night with my sister which was so delicious. Thanks for your posts. Again thanks for your post. I love your instagram posts.
I made this last night and it was delicious. I love the crunch of the water chestnuts. Eating it in the lettuce wrap is perfect! One thing I noticed is the sodium content – when I tracked it in my food diary, it shows double the sodium amount. I only use lower-sodium soy sauce so I was thinking the milligrams would be even lower; however, they weren’t. Can you double-check the recipe to see if the nutritional facts are correct?
This turned out great. Loved it and so easy.
So, so delicious — highly recommend!
Excellent and delicious! Easy to make. I ground my own chicken using 3 skinless boneless chicken breasts. Only change I made was using an additional tablespoon of olive oil because chicken was so lean. Also didn’t need salt and pepper at end because it was perfect without it. Would make again. For the sauce I used the Ginger Soy Sauce recipe from Food.com. These wraps tasted like PF Chang’s. Thank you for sharing!

So good!!! Better than PF Changs in my opinion because they don’t cost an arm and a leg – haha! We eat these often and my whole family enjoys them!
I would not add salt due to the high sodium content of the other sauces that are added.
This is not a larb recipe, Emme, larb is good, and we make it far more often than the lettuce wraps but larb is a Thai dish with mint, fish sauce chilies and other goodies. The PF Changs crunchy thing in it is the puffed fried rice vermicelli they add for crunch and to absorb some of the sauce.
Love these! Have made several times; and am making again this week as a first night meal on a camping trip. The smell alone is wonderful.
I make as is; but I also like to tweak sometimes and add cilantro, as I love cilantro; plus more green onion. And a handful or two of roasted peanuts, as I like the flavor, and more protein to add to stretch the meal. Two nights dinner, or dinner and lunch. YUM!
Absolutely delicious! My husband can’t stop talking about how good these lettuce wraps are. Great summer dinner, especially if you’re counting carbs.
Just finished making this for dinner tonight. This is NO WAY P.F. Changs recipe. It is sooooooo much better than PF Changs. I should know. We go there often so my husband can order this for his dinner. He loves it. Plus I have tried at least 5 other chicken lettuce wrap recipes. Those don’t come close to the flavors in this recipe. I swear the flavors BURST in your mouth. Perfect amount of crunch with a perfect sauce. And absolutely go with ground chicken if you can. Absorbed way better then diced fresh chicken.
The only thing I did different was I added 3 times the green onions (cuz I love them). Then took off the stove once added. But
changed nothing else.
Thanks sooo much. My hubby will be soooo damn excited. I can see us eating this weekly during the hot summer months. Yay! Please post more recipes like this. Pretty please.
Easy to make and quite tasty!!!
Great recipe! I added bean sprouts delicious.
Excellent recipe. Easy to make and delicious result. I’ve made it five times in three weeks.
Great, easy and everyone loved it, used ground turkey also……….yum!
I also use ground turkey a lot, as it is often a better deal than ground chicken.
So good….entire family asked if we could have this in a weekky rotation. Thank you!
SOOOOO good. and really easy!!
Wonderful! Husband and I both loved this. I’m needing to change my diet and avoid wheat and this was a great recipe to add to my new menu planning! Will be making it again! I did cut the hoisin sauce in half, and substituted celery for water chestnuts.
Taste just like PF Chang’s. I use ground turkey instead of ground chicken and still taste great!
These are better than the restaurant’s. Thank you.
Used ground turkey instead of chicken because that’s all I had. Also used oyster sauce and sesame oil instead of Hoisin as suggested by another review. I added just a touch of brown sugar. Also added a bit more green onion. It was spicy and delicious! I bet it will be even better with ground chicken.
This is delicious! My entire family LOVES it and it’s hard to find something everyone loves! I’ve made it several times. This time I used ground turkey b/c the ground chicken wasn’t available. It was just as good. I’m not the best cook, but this recipe makes me seem like a great cook! 🙂
Absolutely amazing! My new favorite recipe! So quick & simple! And so delicious I had it for breakfast (yes breakfast!) AND lunch!
This is delicious! I made a double batch, and also added some grated carrot and snow peas cut on the bias. I also cooked up some Jasmine rice – it was delicious both in butter lettuce leaves and over the rice.
Can I use pine nuts instead of whole chestnuts?
The recipe calls for water chestnuts- way different from chestnuts! Lol
Awesomeness! Followed the recipe to a t best lettuce wraps I’ve ever had!
These are better than PF Chang’s! This recipe is wonderful! Have made them over and over! Yummmy

Very good! PF Changs is hubs favorite. He loved these. Hoisin has a very high sugar content though, so I cut it in half and subbed it for 2 tbsp oyster sauce and 1tsp sesame oil. Amazing and drops the carbs/sugar even lower without sacrificing the flavor one bit!
This is a great recipe! Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely delicious! I’m trying to find freezer friendly meals. I feel like it’ll do okay to freeze and thaw. Thoughts? Thanks!
If freezing, I’d leave out the green onion and possibly the water chestnuts until reheating. Preserve the crunch and prevent the onions from being limp and soggy.
Damn delicious! That’s all I have to say!
I made it to the point, I had to do it again in same day. 1st batch disappeared in 15 min. Second batch was with 3 lbs of ground chicken and lasted a bit longer. Thank you!
Thank you for writing about this. I tried at home the first time that was too yummy. Keep writing that helps us in getting an idea about new recipes.
Excellent!! So easy and uses ingredients I usually have in my pantry on standby. A delicious use for the ground chicken I keep buying and hadn’t (until now) found a great use for. This recipe will be making a regular appearance in our dinner rotation.
Delicious!!
Very easy, I will definitely make it again. Next time I will try cooking it in a skillet instead of a saucepan.
Delicious! I baked chicken breasts and then diced them rather than using ground chicken. This will be added to the rotation!
I will admit I have not made the recipe but reading thru it the PF change version has a Ramen noodle addition or something “crunchy” in their wraps . What do you think about that?
Traditionally, toasted & ground sticky rice is added for crunch to all larb. Easy to make & store: Start with a 1/2 c of sticky rice (raw) in a heavy pan, no oil. Continuously stir & toss til the grains are a rich golden brown. Let it cool and crush with a mortar & pestle or in a spice/coffee grinder. Keeps in a jar in a cool/dry cabinet or fridge. Yummy! 🙂
I’ve made this multiple times but I always use ground pork instead because I prefer the flavour. I also increase the amount of ginger. Today, instead of wrapping inside lettuce leaves, I finely sliced 2 kinds of lettuce, some celery, some cucumber (drizzled a bit more rice wine vinegar on the lettuce, then topped with the meat mixture. We always garnish with the crushed peanuts — fantastic!
I didn’t happen to have a whole pound of ground chicken on hand the day I made this, so I cut it a bit with 25% ground white turkey. Still delicious. I do wish I’d had butter lettuce on hand; all I had was Bibb lettuce, the leaves of which were too large to roll.
The one thing left out of the original recipe is woodear mushrooms (black fungus). Other than that, spot on.
Your Recipes are excellent. Love to Read & learn from your website.
Looks very fresh. I will definitely try it once in my kitchen. Thanks.
Really good. I made it with chicken for my guys and with teriyaki tofu for myself. Was really good. I didn’t have any hoisin sauce (and was too lazy to make some) so I substituted William Sonoma’s spicy peanut sauce. I also sautéed the chicken and tofu with a little sesame oil in addition to olive oil.
I will definitely make this again. Thanks for the good recipe.
Absolutely fantastic!!!
Nothing to say more. I want to say Wow. 😮 Appreciate your amazing idea to share with us.
The taste is fantastic. I did swap out pre-grated ginger from the produce department for ease and because it has a less intense bite to it.
I hate to rain on anyone’s parade, but these lettuce cups are NOT low carb. Hoisin sauce is a little sugar-bomb and has about 25g carbs for every 2 tablespoons, meaning there are about 50g carbs in this recipe. Maybe the author is using a different variety? There are low-sugar Hoisin recipes online so next time I will try the swap and see if they’re still as good.
Spot on recipe! Did more than a tablespoon of Siracha to suit my taste. Can’t wait to make these again.
Have made these a few times now and they always turn out amazing. Simple and delicious.
Delicious! A hit with the entire household. I didn’t use Sriracha due to a little one who can’t take the heat, but didn’t miss it. I doubled the recipe so I could have leftovers. So glad I found this site!!!
I just made these for the millionth time tonight for dinner. I have the same issue with a little one who is sensitive to spice, so I leave out the Sriracha as well. My husband and I love spice, though, so we drizzle the Sriracha over the top of the chicken mixture in our wraps and it is wonderful!
I made these tonight, and the prep was quick, and the wraps were delicious! Best thing? I didn’t have to share them with anyone like I normally do at the restaurant. Great recipe; thanks!
Awesome recipe..-2nd time making it ..Putting under as my grandma would say “Tried and True” recipe box!!
Tried this tonight and it was delicious!! Will definitely make again.
For the sauce, I’m going to cheat and use Trader Joe’s Gyoza Dipping Sauce. If you haven’t tried it, it’s Amazing! Not gluten free though (soy sauce). I use it on tofu and veggies and it makes everything better. Similar to the PF Chang’s sauce and the recipe posted here by Shirley Maxwell. Making this for my PF Chang’s-loving daughter tonight! Thank you for the sure-thing recipe!!
Good recipe, but a big part of the flavor of this dish at PF Changs is the dipping sauce. Would love that recipe.
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1/8 teaspoon chili oil
1 tablespoon thinly sliced green onion
1/4 teaspoon Chinese hot mustard
1 teaspoon sriracha
I warm mine up on the stove to help integrate the mustard! This sauce will blow your mind! Even better then P.F. Chang’s dipping sauce!! It is a bit spicy but you can always cut back on the sriracha! I hope everyone enjoys this dipping sauce with these lettuce wraps because my family does 🙂 Also this lettuce wrap recipe is THE ABSOLUTE BEST I have come across! I think it is even better and more fresh then P.F. Chang’s!
Delish! Made vegetarian — used extra firm tofu for the ground chicken and cooked it in sesame oil! Otherwise followed and LOVED it!!!! Glad there are some leftovers but not for long!!! Thank you.
This is in our regular rotation. Tonight I was out of sriracha so subbed chili garlic paste instead and it’s fantastic (but very spicy if that’s Not your thing).
WAy too much ginger, overpowers everything.
Yummy! I served it with the butter lettuce cups and rice. Way too much spice for my kiddies. Maybe 1/2 the ginger and 1/3 of Sriracha. But if you like spice go for it! Thanks for the dupe- it was a nice variation from my usual.
This was amazing! Thank you so much for the recipe! Will be making many more times.
Delicious!! I will be making this again.
WoW! Delicious and easy! We made this exactly as the recipe called for.
WoW! Delicious and easy! We made this exactly as the recipe called for except with ground turkey(it is what we had on hand) instead of ground chicken.
Fabulous! Just a great recipe. So flavorful and made even more so by my adding extra ginger:) So easy, too. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome recipe! My in-laws are on a plant based diet so I made this with beyond meat crumbles. You have to alter the order a bit-onions first then meat only cooks 3 minutes so everything else needs to be Pre measured to dump. I also used both butter and iceberg lettuce to see the difference. Everyone liked both. Thanks for the great recipe!
Hey Chungah,
its dough time here during the lockdown period now. However i am busy spending my time with new recipes every day. I think this will be on my list for this week. Do you also write about Vegan meals, i wanted to try some vegan items as well.
This is an excellent recipe, quick and easy. I followed the recipe exactly with no changes. Rave reviews from friends. Love this!
I’ve made this recipe many, many times and we really enjoy it. I think it’s better than P.F. Changs ( we don’t have one in our area)
This looks delicious! Quick question, do you use rice wine or rice vinegar?
Thanks
I found out rice vinegar is often referred to as rice wine vinegar!
This is amazing! Make it all the time. It is a family favorite!
So easy and delicious. Will definitely be making again.
Easy and delicious, as promised!
This is a fantastic recipe! I used ground pork only because we don’t care for ground chicken, otherwise I follow. We have it 2 to 3 times a month!! Thank you for sharing.
You might want to check the nutrition facts on the P.F. Chang’s lettuce wraps. They have about 80 carbs per serving.
One of the best and healthiest recipes ever! My husband and I love LOVE this recipe. Our niece made these and now it’s a staple for us. We serve with strips of fresh julienned red pepper on top instead of using the water chestnuts for crunch. And, we buy the miniature artisan romaine lettuce because it just holds up better for the “wrap.”
Very easy and tasty
This was delicious! I actually added in half a cup of brown rice and half a leftover potato and I loved it!
OMG how delicious bless you
Has anyone made this with rice noodles?
what is the serving size for this recipe?
So so goof!
Question: my onion is rather large, would you recommend 1 cup of diced onions? More or less? Thank you!!
Use the entire onion. You can’t go wrong with ingredients on this recipe! The sauce is the real magic.
This is one of my favorite recipes and i make it often. I add mushrooms as well.
Soooooo good. It is definitely a staple in our house!! I have to make atleast a double batch each time. I do not use ground chicken, I put the raw chicken breast in the food processor.
Regarding Donna’s comment about her experience at PF Chang. When I read her comment, I assume she is saying that it is better to make your own Lettuce Wrap than to go to P F Chang for their Chicken Lettuce Wrap on account of food poisoning. We had Chicken Lettuce Wrap at PF Chang numerous time and never experienced food poisoning.
These are delicious. I’ve made them again and again. They are quick to make using pantry staples. Even if you don’t have everything, they are adaptable and still taste great. We like them even better as leftovers.
Thanks for this recipe- it’s the bomb!!!! I’ve tried other lettuce wrap recipes and hands down, this one comes the closest to PF Chang’s chicken lettuce wraps. Ground chicken is the way to go. I didn’t add the sriracha as I don’t like the taste. I tripled the recipe and we had plenty for dinner and leftovers for a few days for the whole family. This had been added to my go-to recipes.
WOW. Highly recommend this recipe. I never leave reviews but this recipe was too good not to. It made my whole family happy and it made me feel like a professional chef! Adding white rice into the lettuce cup also added a great complexity of textures. Can’t wait to make this again soon!
This was SO SO GOOD! It came together very quickly and easily. I used romaine instead of butter lettuce (I wish I had butter lettuce just because the leaves would be easier), but other than that I followed the recipe exactly and it was delicious. This is a new staple for me FOR SURE! Can’t wait to make this for friends.
Really delicious , super easy & healthy I’ll be making these again
Amazing! These came out great. The only thing I didn’t have was the rice wine vinegar so I used white instead and hoped for the best. The meat mixture is delicious! I put it on an Asian style salad because I didn’t have the right lettuce and my husband had it over rice. A hit!
Fabulous! Crowd favorite. I use GF ingredients and my Celiac family member is thrilled to be able to enjoy this dish. Highly recommend it. When we do not have the correct lettuce, we serve it over chopped ice berg as protein for salad.
I’ve never frozen and thawed for a party later. Anyone try freezing? Hints appreciated, if so.
It is a favorite for tailgating, Go Vols
This is the second time I’ve made this. It’s delicious! I added diced carrots, sone toasted sesame oil and celery and topped mine with toasted sliced almonds and sesame seeds. I’ll definitely make this again!
I love this recipe!! To make it lower carb, I cut the hoison in half. Then I add a tablespoon of all natural peanut butter. Sprinkle cilantro on top at serving, if you aren’t a cilantro hater. It’s so delicious!!!
I should add that I skip the hot sauce (I’m a wimp) and the water chestnuts and its still ah-maze-ing!!!
I modify this slightly.
Nix the hoison sauce and add crushed peanuts, diced carrots and toasted sesame seed oil. This is one of those meals you look forward to making.
Can I use ground ginger if I don’t have fresh?
I don’t see why not. But the fresh ginger really – REALLY – makes a difference in Asian dishes like this.
Made these just yesterday!! I was very pleased. I didn’t think 1 pound of meat would be enough but, once i added the onions, water chestnuts and scallions it was very was a lot of meat filling. I used half pound of ground chicken breast and a half pound of ground chicken thighs. I added more hoisin sauce for flavor. I also added shredded carrots…. My question for your readers is how else are you eating this? What if I don’t want to use my hands? I’d love to take this for lunch but I don’t like to use my hands to hold food when I’m at work. Due to all the germs in the hospitals.
Completely understandable. How about trying it “deconstructed”, putting the filling on top of Chopped/sliced lettuce so it’s more like a salad and can be eaten with a fork?
I just took this to lunch at work today. Just left the filling, brought chopped lettuce in a separate bag and just added on top. Stayed crisp and cold and still had all the flavours!
Kevin is SO right, it is worth the trip to the store to get fresh ginger, or if you want a shortcut where ever the jarred, minced garlic is kept most stores carry minced ginger. I was raised, southern, white bread, white rice blah blah blah BUT! my uncle’s wife Hisako was from Japan and omg she is who introduced me to the magic that fresh ginger can be…
Really good stuff!
I finally got around to making this tonight after intending to for months…I won’t wait that long until I make it again! It was damn delicious (;
I served it on purple bib lettuce with sliced cucumbers, radishes, and baby carrots on the side. It was healthy and looked colorful and amazing. My husband and 17 year old son both said they really liked it and want me to make it again.
This was AMAZING! My boyfriend and I both loved it. The only thing I left out was the ginger, since I am allergic. But the flavor was still so great without it. Thank you!
I actually add extra hoisin because it’s the best part! I don’t add onions, usually just dried minced onion, but I’m guessing the key there is to make sure they’re fully cooked, and also “one onion” is a little vague, when I do use real onion I eyeball how much I should use since some onions are small and some are huge.
Anyway I made this last night for the approximately millionth time lol and it’s a favorite! I always double it and sometimes add things to it like broccoli slaw or spinach.
Delicious and easy!
Wow- my picky 4 year old devoured 3 of these and I ate several too! I thought the flavors were perfectly balanced, and it tasted like something from a restaurant. I am very skeptical about online recipes- this is only the second one I’ve ever made that came out much better than expected. This dish will now be added to my regular line up- it’s healthy, affordable and versatile.
Thank you for this recipe. I’m on a low-carb diet and so I had this with a side of stirfried vegetables and it was so delicious! And it taste just like P.F. Chang’s. Easy to make, hardest part is the prep. But even then it was such a walk in the park. Husband loved it too!
AMAZING! I’ve made this recipe so many times I’ve almost committed the ingredients to memory. This is the tastiest healthy meal around! Let me be clear, this recipe tastes just like PF Chang’s!
Just made this for my family a big hit,we ate at this place once time and my daughter has been asking me to make some.
Wow!! We just had dinner at PF Changs a few days ago and had the Famous Lettuce Wraps. I just followed the recipe and WOW – my family inhaled the wraps!! A new family favourite now!
Make these too many times to count, and my family goes apeshhh over them every time!… even my picky 4 year old, that almost exclusively eats just white rice because he’s so picky! These, in my humble opinion, top PF Chang’s! This recipe is in heavy rotation in my household at least twice a month and never disappoints. Thanks so much!
Made this for dinner and it was quick, easy, and delicious! I added some baby bella mushrooms that I needed to use and they blended in nicely. Will definitely make again!
Yummy!!! That’s all I have to say.
Made these for a double date with my boyfriend’s parents and they were a smash hit! I doubled the recipe to serve as the main course and it fed 4 with leftovers! I served them with crushed peanuts as a topping. These were fool proof!
I’m single and tired of eating burgers & fries so I wanted to try something quick and easy. Had this dish before at P. F. Changs. This recipe is perfect. Even better. I’m amazed how well it turned out. I used chicken thighs which I ground in the blender myself (yes the blender. I don’t have a food processor) Followed the recipe to the T. The ingredients blend well and result in a great tasting dish. Can’t wait to try some of your other recipes. Will be sharing this one with my daughters. Thank you!
I have made these lettuce wraps many times and my family LOVES them!! I double the recipe because we love it so much, and if we ever have leftovers (which rarely happens) its amazing for lunch the next day. I leave out the Sriracha because my little ones are sensitive to spice, but my husband and I just add it over the top of our wraps, and it’s great! My six year old (who is usually particular with his dinner) says these are his favorite. Thank you so much for this recipe!!
I am excited to try these tonight. I realized I don’t have any ground chicken. Could chicken thighs work?
Haven’t tried it yet but will be. Do you also have the recipe for the sauce you add to it?
These were absolutely wonderful! So easy to make and really delicious! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
Would love to know if you recreated the dipping sauce as well.
I would love to know the recipe for the dipping sauce as well!!
Thank you for asking that, I’ve been looking for that recipe also, I just wish someone would have answered you with it
I made this sauce (on another PF Chang’s chicken wrap recipe. really good
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1/8 teaspoon chili oil
1 tablespoon chopped chives
1/4 teaspoon Chinese hot mustard
1 teaspoon Sriracha
Although it is very liquidy….is that a word lol. I am still looking for another to add to the collection that is thicker…..
Absolutely delicious and light! Only thing I did differently was to double the recipe. Leftovers were great, too.
I am going to make this for my vegetarian son (who eats fish) but used chopped shrimp. Do you think that will work?
I have made this with shrimp and it was great!
Kate, you could use TVP instead of shrimp. Or even tofu.
I made this recipe for the second time last night and it is really delicious. I follow the recipe exactly and appreciate that is does not have mushrooms. This will be a family staple in our home.
Wonderful and easy
This was awesome. Super easy. Followed recipe exact. This recipe didn’t have a dipping sauce so got that from another recipe but this was amazing. Whole family loved it.
Easy recipe with high marks from all of our guests! It’s good that you can finish it in under half an hour!
Did not like it to much Hoisin sauce needs something??
I use more than it calls for and at siracha and more ginger than they call for as well. Mess with those three until you get the taste right.
Perfection! I’m not entirely sure my husband believes I made these and didn’t just run out to P.F. Chang’s for the real deal. I doubled the recipe because we were feeding 2 adults plus 4 young kids. I added some cellophane noodles seasoned with sesame oil & soy sauce, and some thinly julienned carrots to put on top. Rice would have been a good addition, too. Definitely making this again!
JUST made these for dinner and they were AMAZING! We will definitely be making these again! I followed the recipe exactly how it is, except my local grocery store was out of water chestnuts so I added a handful of peanuts to my food processor, chopped them upend added them in. I also topped it off with sesame seeds for garnish.
Again, I am not sure how this recipe doesn’t have anything but a 5 star
Me & my husband love this recipe! We are big fans of the PF Chang’s lettuce wraps. This recipe is a winner for homemade Damn Delicious Wraps! Thanks so much for the great recipe!
Easy to make and we loved it!!! Perfect for two!!
Loved it the first time I made it. Tonight I am doubling the recipe!
That’s great! Thanks for your feedback, Lily.
Love how easy this was to make. I replaced water chestnuts with apples (because that’s what I had) and added mushrooms. Hubby LOVED it said it was better than PF Chang’s! Added a soup and it was a filling lunch.
Love these! Thank you for the receipe recipe absolutely delicious!
Absolutely refreshing and delicious! Also easy to eat for a week’s worth of dinner for one!
So yummy! Making again tonite. Last time I doubled ALL the sauce ingredients, except for the siracha. Perfect!
I love this recipe but what could I serve as a side dish with it? Thank you
Hi Margaret, I just made white rice to go with ours. Evened out the spiciness, hope this helps
I just made them! So awesome! Husband loved et gem!
I loved this recipe so much! I also added a simple ginger carrot-raddish slaw to the top to get more veggies in. 😉
very yummy and easy
Super easy recipe!
Wonderful flavor too!
I’ve already made it 2xs within the last 2 weeks.
Both times I’ve made it, my husband and I finished it all.
No leftovers and not enough to serve more than 2 people.
I made this for (2), this was delicious and easy to make. I would probably use little bit less sriracha, just a little. The recipe was simple enough, I will be making this again.
This is so delicious and easy to make! My family loves it and my teens will even through it together themselves for movie nights, etc. cooks very quickly too!
Absolutely delicious!! Thank you!
The recipe is close but, PF Chang’s
has mushrooms too.
Looks delicious, but I’m allergic to Hoisin sauce. Does anybody have suggestions for substitution?
Anie, Do you know what component of it you’re allergic to? You can mix your own and leave out or substitute that particular ingredient.
I use whatever sweetish Asian sauce I have, usually oyster sauce.
Absolutely delicious!! I had better double the recipe next time.. Thank you for sharing.
I absolutely LOVE this! I made a few adjustments, only because I had different ingredients at home, and it was so tasty. I had the Asian Lettuce Cups at CPK a couple of weeks ago, and they were quite good. I am so glad I tried this recipe. I added shitake mushrooms, red bell pepper, crisp celery, and used a couple of different sauces (Oyster Sauce, Kona Coast Island Teriyaki Sauce, low sodium soy sauce) and sprinkled some sesame seeds. I also used crisp iceberg lettuce–delicious! Thank you so much for the recipe!
Have made this recipe two times and my family says it’s better than PF Chang’s. Only thing I add extra is a little cilantro and top with chopped peanuts since. Thanks for this recipe.
Delicious! I couldn’t stop myself from just eating the mix right out of the skillet! I used low sodium soy sauce and then did add some kosher salt at the end before tasting. It was still a little too salty for me. I will not add any salt at the end. So so good!
Unfortunately it was a no for us. There was just something missing that I couldn’t put my finger on which makes it really hard to tweak. I added a bit more vinegar, soy sauce, and some brown sugar (I remember using this in a very time consuming lettuce wraps recipe years ago), but all I could really taste was the Hosin sauce, which is a bitter taste by itself.
My son, who literally eats everything and loves PF Chang’s lettuce wraps, told me very politely that he didn’t care for it and asked for something else.
I wish I knew what I needed to add/omit/tweak to get it right for us. It was SO easy and I would definitely make it again if I could figure it out.
It’s obvious by all the positive reviews that it’s a favorite for most people, so if your reading my review my suggestion would be to definitely try it! I would suggest to just mix all the sauce ingredients with the ginger separately and taste. This was you can make sure the sauce is to your liking before you incorporate, which is what I plan on doing next time.
Aisia chili pepre sauce 1/2 tsp? Copy cat does a close one almost the same.
Maybe try replacing the hoisin sauce with oyster sauce? That would give it a slightly different flavor that could be “missing” for your family!
or fish sauce maybe? I have been ramping up to finally make this and tonight’s the night. I already have a deep love of Asian cuisine, especially ginger, I also add a heavy dose of roasted minced garlic. My family LOVES heavy garlic.
Love that this version has no mushrooms. They taste great!!
This recipe is Awesome!!! A must make! It is so so good!!
Easy and delicious mid week meal! Thanks for another great recipe! You are my go to site for recipes.
Can’t wait to cook this! Looks yummy and very easy, too.
Where do all the carbs come from? can i eliminate or reduce or substitute something else?
I just went and bought all the ingredients and read the carbs on the water chestnuts and the Hoisen sauce and now I know why there are so many carbs! Try the gluten free hoisen sauce it has a fraction of the carbs and I just put a few water chestnuts in it and I’m thinking this cut the carbs by more than half!
I loved this recipe it was amazing of course the gluten free hoisen made it a little less indulgent but if you’re keto and trying to be good but have a delicious dinner this my friends is a god sent!
I’ve eaten many a lettuce wrap and so thankful this recipe and glorious comments inspired me to make them finally! These were delicious. Made them exactly as written but added a few crimini mushrooms and one small grated carrot for color and crunch. Thank you for sharing!
I LOVE this recipe. Do you think it’d keep in the fridge well for a couple days? Thinking about making it fora few lunches during the week.
What a great idea! But as I am not an expert on food safety, I cannot really say with certainty. Methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with. Hope that helps, Sara!
Easy and delicious! Is a hit with the entire family (even the picky eater). Will be one of my go-to recipes!
Such a good recipe!! Love it!
I’ll be trying the other Asian inspired recipes. Hope there is a really good fried rice one.
Thank you for your genious and sharing your recipes.
Made this last night and it was delicious. I paired it with your PF Chang’s chicken lettuce wraps to make a bowl. It satisfied my fried rice craving. I will definitely be making this again. Thank you for your wonderful recipes.
The first time that I made this, my family couldn’t rave enough. I made it a second time but used ground turkey instead of ground chicken. You wouldn’t have believed the difference. I was stunned. Trust this original recipe and don’t fool with the ingredients.
Tip:. I have a very busy life so, as often as possible, I like to prepare as much in advance as I can. This recipe is perfect if you prepare the first 2 steps, refrigerate that then complete step 3 when you reheat the prepared part.
I LOVE this recipe it has become a go to for me. I used chili paste instead of sriacha but otherwise follow it exactly. YUM.
We really enjoyed these….did add some mushrooms and garlic/chili sauce. This will be made again and again….finished them with a bit of peanut sauce.
We love this recipe! Sometimes we just make the chicken mixture, add extra Sriracha, and cabbage, and make eggrolls. Soooo tasty!
This was an excellent recipe. I could eat it all day
Thank you so much
I was missing some things, so used turkey instead of chicken, chili paste instead of sriracha, powdered ginger, no vinegar. I didn’t have chestnuts, but those would have been excellent. This was great! It needs the hot sriracha (or chili) because it is complimented by the butter lettuce. I also cooked the onions and meat at the same time- I like onions soft- and added green onions on top at the end without cooking. It’s possible that a wok might make this dish even better, but I just let some of the liquid cook away. I might eat this every day forever.
Did similar to other reader and added mushrooms and garlic chili sauce. Yum
I want to try this recipe but I can’t get hold of water chestnuts where I live. Please can you recommend a substitution? Or should I just leave them out.
Thank you.
You can omit, Charlie. 🙂
You can replace the water chestnuts with cashews. It’s even better!
Do you cook the cashews?
I added in chopped mushrooms as well for extra oomph, so I think it would be a good filler if you don’t have water chestnuts as well!
i use jicama
Crazy good!
Absolutely love this recipe! I’ve added a few things like sliced baby portabello mushrooms and spicy garlic chili sauce to it just to kick it up a notch. I’ve made this three times now and its always a hit at my house!
We’re happy to hear this is a keeper for you! 🙂
I just wanted to tell you that I’ve referred back to this recipe more times than I can count. I’ve made it over and over again and we absolutely love it! It is and will be a favorite of ours for years to come. Thank you for this!!
My wife and I love this dish! I usually make it with diced chicken, but I have also done it with tofu for my vegetarian friends. I don’t change much at all, except a little more garlic (measure that with your heart). Mushrooms are also great addition if you have them. The only thing it was missing for me was some sort of crunch, so I usually will top it with crushed peanuts or crispy rice noodles. Delicious!
Waaaay to much ginger. It really over powered the rest of the flavors. I think the base of the recipe is good and will try it again only using a tsp instead of Tbps of ginger.
Making these tonight! What do you think a good side dish would be? I’m trying to be semi-healthy and stay away from potstickers 🙁
Hi Christine! It really depends on your taste and personal preference. I personally love these on their own but please feel free to look through our side dishes for ideas and inspiration. 🙂
I wanted to make these ahead of time for a party. What is the best way to keep them warm or to reheat? I don’t want them to get dried out! Thank you in advance!
I recommend reheating in the microwave, in 30-second intervals, until heated through but as always, please use your best judgement when making substitutions and modifications.
About to try this recipe. Wondering if you can make it with ground turkey Instead of ground chicken without ruining ruining the taste.
Absolutely, Pam!
I made these last night with ground turkey and they were fantastic! I was looking for ground chicken at the supermarket, however, I could only find ground chicken breast. I was afraid ground chicken breast would be too dry, so I substituted with ground turkey. It worked out very well!
My husband and I absolutely loved these wraps! We had some leftovers that he took to work and his coworkers also loved them. Thank you!
That’s what we love to hear! Thanks Ramsey.
Absolutely delicious! I diced up chicken breasts instead of using ground chicken. Tastes better than Chang’s!
AWESOME – Easy and so tasty!!!
I will be checking out your other recipes
Thank you
Amazing! Never going to P.F. Chang’s again!
Recipe is fantastic and looking for tips on how to keep wraps together. We’ve tried multiple lettuces but all wilt under the chicken. Suggestions?
I found that butter lettuce works best! 🙂
Best ever .made it once and am making it again. Delicious
We make these at least once a month. Love them. Very easy to anyway in extra veggies for the kids like shredded carrots too.
We just ate this for dinner 2 days in a row! Thanks for this recipe! Sooo good!
Easy and tasty! I will definitely be making these again soon.
It was super hit. Everyone in the family loved it.
Great recipe. I make these a lot. But why add a step with the water chestnuts? You say to use whole, then dice them. You can buy them diced. Less utensils, less time.
These are amazing!
I used a homemade hoisin sauce recipe I found that used only a little honey – as the sauces I found at the store had lots of sugar.
I couldn’t stop eating them!
They’re going into the rotation for sure!
Do you still have that recipes?
Used ground chicken once in a chicken ball and hated it, so was hesitant to try again in this recipe. Very quick and easy recipe. Spicy and hot is not good for our bellies, so ommitted Sriracha. My smeller and taster does work like it should. I asked hubby to taste it before making the wrap. With one spoonful, looked at me and shook his head no. While thinking what esle can I make , he takes two more spoonfuls and says excellent. Then filled the lettuce. First time using butter lettuce which I think made a big difference. However the filling kelp falling out. Usually don’t comment, but others need not worry to give it a try.
Could you please share the hoisin recipe?
Would you share your homemade hoisin sauce recipe ?
These were delicious!! I added shredded carrots which gave it some more color and tasted great. I also had to make my own hoisin sauce (peanut butter, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, sesame oil) because I didn’t have any available. The peanut taste from the peanut butter was really nice!
Fabulous!
I am a college student and I made this as an appetizer and all my family members loved it(even the picky ones)! It’s so easy, and very delicious and the best thing is that it doesn’t take a long time and only requires a handful of ingredients. I recommend everyone to try this recipe. I always get compliments and requests to make it again soon.
My Family loved this recipe, easy to make and very good!
Omg! Amazing. Yum!
I tried this recipe and did a blind side by side comparison with the restaurant version and this is wayyyyy better. It wasn’t even close.
i made this for my family today and WOAH!!!!!!!!! These are my favorite things ive ever cooked. Thanks for the great recipe!
Yum!!! This was so good and easy!! Can’t wait to make again next week. 🙂
When I told my husband I was making this for dinner his comment was “gross, I don’t like that stuff”. After dinner he asked if I would cook it for dinner tomorrow! Needless to say he loved it.
Delicious!! Love this recipe!!
Great!
Delicious!!
Damn these are good! Seriously best chicken lettuce wraps ever, thank you!
This recipe is DAMN DELICIOUS!
I’ve made this at least a dozen times because my finicky 5yo and 7yo love them.
Awesome! Easy to make and tastes great!
These wraps are just delicious. Found this recipe more than a year ago and have made them many times. They just disappear at parties. Sooooo good. (Not sure if I reviewed before so thought I’d do so now.)
I needed this recipe in my life. Followed to a T (except for green onions) and they were delicious. Leftovers were great as well! Thanks for this – looking forward to making this regularly!
Awesome!
made exactly…very good
Awesome!
Great recipe! I omitted the onions (I’m allergic), doubled the seasonings and added 1 cup of cooked rice and 1/2 cup finely diced bell peppers (red, yellow & orange, for color). So very good!
Super easy, super quick, super delicious! Have made it twice so far and look forward to incorporating it into our rotation of week day meals.
They never get old! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
I love the recipe! It’s so easy. Has anyone took the time to measure to see how many tablespoons in one serving? I’ve made it several times and it turns out delicious each time.
Great recipe & very easy! Going into my regular rotation!!
Delicious and easy!
Love it! Healthy, easy, and delicious! Jana – I love all your recipes that I’ve made! I’m an artist building my own website and I really like the scripty font you have – would you mind sharing the name of it with me? Thanks!!
I love the recipe I double the wet ingredients because I like it juicy also I add two small packets of roasted peanuts and chop them up. I think it is delicious
My husband actually kept complimenting mefor the lettuce wraps. The recipe was so fast and so easy to prepare. This will definitely be a go to recipe from mow on. Thank You so much.
That’s great!
sorry probably somebody already has asked this question
Is this still as good if you make night before??…I have cooked before but having a lot of people with a lot of different dishes so want to do some prep tonight !!
Ps. full menu from your site 🙂
Sure! The leftovers heat up very well! 🙂
I tried this recipe earlier and it turned out delicious. Thanx for the recipe.
I make these at least every other week. They are part of my regular dinner plan. My husband and daughters absolutely love these lettuce wraps. One of the convenient things about this recipe is that I can make it that morning, leave it on low in the crock-pot, and it tastes even better that evening. This recipe has bailed me out on many busy after-school activity days. If my girls are really starving, I will add some ready to heat rice to go with it.
Out of curiousity about how many wraps were you able to get in a serving? Trying to determine WW points 🙂
Whitney, it’s really difficult to answer how many wraps is equivalent to a single serving especially because some people tend to fill their wraps up more so than others! It may be helpful to divide the mixture into 4 equal servings to serve 4. Hope that helps!
This is delicious and easy to make! Prepared exactly as written but omitted green onions as I was out of them. This is in heavy rotation!
I used pulled chicken, and HM hoisin sauce to make Lower carb, minimal sugar (1 TBSP local orange honey) ok… went a little crazy with the garlic !!! Came out fantastic… Great recipe !!
It is awesome, and if you can make the hoisin sauce at home.. It enhances the homemade taste
Now that I have had these, my wife would not eat them because she is VEGAN, do you have a VEGAN recipe to substitute?
What a great idea! But unfortunately, without having tried this myself, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment when making substitutions and modifications.
Hi! I made a vegan version by substituting meat with the Trader Joe’s meatless grounds. I also added a small grated carrot just cause veggies? I left everything else the same but I changed up the cooking process slightly since the meatless meat cooks differently. Most hoisin sauce is vegan but just double check the ingredients to be sure! I first sautéd the onion, added the “meat”, then added the rest of the ingredients except for the sauce, let that sauté till the veggies were soft and the “meat” was heated through, then added all the sauce ingredients with an extra tablespoon of water since the meatless meat can be a bit drier let that let it cook a few minutes. Really tasty! Oh also just to be extra I added some crunchy chow mein noodles that just happen to be accidentally vegan!
Great recipe. I didn’t have green onions or water chestnuts but cooked red peppers and zucchini with the chicken.
Sweet!
Great recipe, but make it better! Substitute olive oil with a combo of peanut and sesame oils. Forget ground chicken which includes the fatty skin. Brown skinless diced chicken breast in the peanut and sesame oils. Yummy! And better for you.
I loved this recipe. I didn’t have soy sauce like I thought I did but still came out wonderful. The only thing I changed was to use iceberg lettuce, just more surdier.
How can this recipe be made in 20 minutes when total time is stated to be 40 minutes. LOL
This was great!!
I didn’t have water chestnuts so I just finely diced up some celery. Perfect substitution for PF Chang’s!
I make This at least twice a week sometimes I use ground turkey they are absolutely delicious
Well I would not say it’s exactly the same as as p f Chang’s but since we have a family of six we tripled the recipe and not one bite was left…damn delicious!
Hi Chungah,
I just made your PF Chang’s chicken lettuce wraps…SO DELICIOUS! My tastebuds were blown away. Can’t wait to make more of your recipes. Thank you!
Happy you liked them!
I looked at quite a few Chicken Lettuce Wrap recipes before settling on this one. I chose it because it had fewer ingredients and good pictures! It is perfect. Easy to double and freeze half. I will be making it again for sure!
I have made this recipe at least 7 or eight times since I found it. It is yummy. It is so quick and easy.
My family is loving this recipe!!! We can’t eat it often enough! I’m now making double batches so we can take it for lunches, too. MUCH better than PF Chang’s! Thank you!
Oohh my gosh!!I made this recipe yesterday and now with leftovers im making it again tonight for dinner again!! Thank you, this receipe is SPOT ON!!!
Thank you for sharing!
It is a easy recipe. I am making since last year and i just love it.
It’s one of our favorites too!
Thank you thank you!! I love This recipe and my kids tdo to. The sauce ratio is spot on. They are Damn delicious. I really Like your site. All of the meal prep looks so good. I will Be coming back quite frequently.
Made a low carb version of this tonight and it was amazing!! I used coconut aminos instead of soy. Also added some sesame oil (instead of evoo) and left out the hot sauce and water chestnuts. I added 2 tbsp of all natural no-sugar-added peanut butter at the end and sprinkled it with fresh cilantro. Absolutely delicious!!!
Has anyone made this and stored it in the freezer? Wondering how this tastes after thawing and cooking?
Have made a million times and love!! I’d like to make and take to a friend. Can I freeze?
Freezing sounds like an amazing idea but unfortunately, I cannot answer this with certainty as I have never tried freezing this myself. Please use your best judgment for freezing and reheating.
I just made this a few minutes ago. And it is so so good! I followed the recipe exactly as it was and it turned out great. I am so glad to have found this site. I love Chinese food and this is about as close as you can get to any takeout I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to try the other recipes you have. Thank you so much!
Thanks, Kim!
These were SUPER easy, tasty and delicious! I made a few medications. I sautéed the onions, plus added red and yellow peppers, before I cooked the chicken. I subbed celery for water chestnuts because I couldn’t find them at the store I was at yesterday, and didn’t want to have to stop at another store. They were SOOOOO yummy! Thanks for the recipe! 🙂
Thank you, Deanna!
Made these wraps tonight. They were delious! Thanks for sharing thus recipe. ***** 5 stars!
Thank you, Julie!
This recipe is seriously delicious. Though not exactly the flavors represented in P.F. Chang’s lettuce wraps, it’s so similar, and still soo good, and also very much not as $$$ as a typical meal from P.F. Chang’s. I made a few adjustments/additions. I created a side of sauce from a mix of the Soy sauce, Hoisin Sauce, Rice Vinegar, and ginger powder. This was something that could be drizzled on top or dipped into. I also used Iceberg lettuce rather than butter lettuce. That’s typically what we get when we order from P.F. Chang’s and I just personally prefer the crunchiness of the lettuce. I have been so impressed time and time again by the consistency of health and delicious taste from this site. I guarantee I will be adding this to my meal plan cycle. Also, this works as leftovers like a dream!!
Thank you for sharing, Sonia!
Oml these were delicious I’ve never had pf changs as I am from Australia but I love home cooked Chinese i was in the mood for san choy bao but didn’t have any pork or beef mince all i had was chicken thighs i followed the recipe to the T and I will definitely make this again i didn’t add any siracha as I am very intolerant to chilli due to gi tract issues and added extra spring onion and garlic and extra water chestnuts as I am in love with water chestnuts lol i ate 8 lettuce wraps without noticing because they were so delicious and being post chemotherapy treatment this provided the protein i needed I’m free of cancer thank goodness i think i might start saving up for a trip to the USA a sort of food testing trip and I will most definitely cook your other recipes thank you for such a delicious recipe
Awesome! What a great idea! We hope you get to go on your trip!
Made it tonight and OMG it was fabulous, it was as if we were at PF Chang’s.
Yay!
Has anyone tried freezing the mixture and then thawing to put in fresh lettuce?
Well- I’ve made this at least 5 times so I figured I should show thanks. Lol. It’s awesome. My kids love it. THe only change I make is I substitute half the meat with Riced cauliflower kids don’t even know and usually I always get caught with my healthy subs!!!
Aw thank you, Jennifer! Happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed it!
What is making the fat so high? Over 15 grams seems odd…
Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!!…Delicious…Having leftovers for lunch tomorrow!!..
Leftovers are the best! Glad you liked it!
Yum. This is definitely a keeper!
I made this last week and my family loved it. I can’t wait to try more of your recipes. They all look
so good. I look forward to opening my email and seeing something to try. You are appreciated I
love your recipes
Thank You
Thank you, Marion!
Chungah, I made this meal tonight and damn…it was delicious!!!!I look forward to trying more of your recipes. Thank you for sharing.
That’s great! We hope you’ll find more recipes you love in the future!
This recipe was simple and delicious. My wife, kids and I wanted to try something different for dinner tonight. We made this into our dinner and it was great. We enjoyed the experience. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing, Nisha!
Wow! Seriously delicious and easy to make. A new household favorite. We opted to use half of a small onion and ground ginger otherwise followed the recipe. Used Iceberg lettuce.
Sweet! Thanks for sharing.
My first visit to your blog, but it will not be my last. FANTASTIC recipe. Used shredded carrots and bean sprouts as toppers for added color and crunch and 1 tsp of Sriracha. Had a glass of white wine and pigged out. Is there a way you can have comments separated from reviews as some other sites do? Hated wading through all those dumb comments top get to real reviews.
What if you have ground Turkey available in freezer? Is it still worth getting ground chicken?
Sometimes, these small changes in a recipe really make the taste change.
Yes, ground turkey would be great in this recipe!
I’ve made it with ground turkey a few times and couldn’t tell the difference.
This is also great on riced cauliflower if you want to turn it into a main dish
I have been on a pizza kick for awhile now and am always looking for creative new pies. I made this and put it on a Boboli Pizza Cruist and it is absolutely amazing! Best pizza I have ever had! I added a light layer of Italian 5-blend shredded cheese. No need for sauce, and, of course, you omit the lettuce. Thank you sharing your taste here 🙂
Very creative! Thanks for sharing.
I made this for dinner!! Omg amazing thank you thank you for the recipie! I used ground turkey and it was awesome sauce keep the recipes coming
Love it Carol! We will!
These were so bomb! Wish i had more! Took me like 5 mins to scroll down to the bottom of your page to comment though. Wish commenting was a little more easier though.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!
GROW UP PEOPLE!! Chungah, perhaps it time to remind people to keep their comments about the recipes? I always browse the comments to get a feel for how the recipe was received, the reason they’re there, right? I saw pages and pages of people’s outrageous comments belittling each other and being rude and inconsiderate to each other. Such bad behavior has no place on a recipe website.
Too much Sriracha! Cut to half. Other than that, perfection.
I made this last night. Very yummy. My BF went back for seconds. Thank you for a great recipe. I will make this again.
Oh that’s awesome! Seconds are the best 🙂
This is a super reciple. The taste is wonderful!! Everyone in the family loves it so much I always double it so we have leftovers. I don’t change anything. My husband and grandson like it a little heartier so I serve it over steamed rice for them!! My daughter is gluten free so I have to find gluten free hoisin sauce and tamari sauce instead of soy sauce. If you can’t find gluten free hoisin sauce in the supermarket you can make a gluten free version found on the internet.
Thank you for sharing your experience Liz! So happy to hear this turned out great for you and your fam.
Winner! I’ve made this several times sans sriracha (not my spice style) and I really love it. It is quick; it is easy; it is delicious. This recipe is now saved with my favorites.aria.
How much is one serving? I see it serves four. I make this all the time. I double everything aside from the onion and the Waterbury chestnuts and I add a bit more serachia and hoisin saise. Love it! NEED serving size though.
Kyndra, it’s really difficult to answer how many wraps is equivalent to a single serving especially because some people tend to fill their wraps up more so than others! It may be helpful to divide the mixture into 4 equal servings to serve 4. Hope that helps!
Ok, so I fall into the category of people who make food but rarely comment. This was FANTASTIC!!! It took next to no time to cook, essentially costs butter lettuce and chicken so a solid $5 dolla in my life, and tasted sooooo good. In all the “quick dinner” meals I’ve made this takes the cake. Seriously about the same effort and time as cooking pasta and sauce, but way better. Thank you so much!
Oh.my.god! This is seriously some mouthwatering stuff, need to try this!
This is a HIT with my teens … and me!!!
Very tasty! I don’t find it necessary to use olive oil when browning ground chicken breast, more calories saved. Served on lettuce as shown and with rice/cauliflower. Could also envision topping with chopped peanuts. Thanks so much for the recipe!
I admit I butchered the recipe because I was just using what I had on hand, so if anyone is wondering, gochujang can be used in place of hoisin, mirin and a squeeze of lime can be used in place of rice vinegar and ground chicken can be used instead of chicken breasts. I also added sesame oil for some oomph and a little peanut powder to thicken the whole thing a little bit. Definitely came out with a little bit of a different flavor profile than PF Chang’s but still really similar and so damn delicious! I made this as directed and then put it in a slow cooker to serve at a potluck. It was a hit and every bit was finished by the time I went home. I did not make the special sauce to go with it.
Wow!!! These are so easy and delicious!!! And this comes from someone who doesn’t enjoy cooking very much. It smelled so heavenly, I was thrilled to be cooking It! Thank you so much for posting!! Looking forward to trying other recipes of yours!
Absolutely loved these lettuce wraps – but found the majority of the unnecessary comments distasteful.
Loved it.. can you please post the receipe for the sauce that goes with lettuce wraps?
I do not have that recipe at this time. Sorry!
I was going to explain why my family loved this recipe, but after reading the comments from all the trolls on this site I think this will be my first and last comment. What a shame.
Hi! I’m excited to finally try these lettuce wraps! For the chicken, did you use ground chicken breast or was it a mix of white and dark meat? I’m looking to reduce the fat wherever possible to accommodate my macros. Thank you!
I used white meat.
I used ground turkey as it was on sale plus I prefer iceberg lettuce …can put in freezer for a couple of minutes so it’s really cold…nice complement to the heat in the ingredients. Even my grans love it and had two helpings and have asked me to make it often. Others have said that it tastes just like PF Changs! Can’t thank you enough!
I love every recipe on your blog!! I have now decided to make them without reading reviews. People are out of control with their comments and rants that have absolutely nothing to do with the recipe! This is very unfair and actually RUDE to Chungah. I can’t justify scrolling through 500+ comments to look for the ones that relate to a recipe.
Getting ready to try these! Can’t wait!
Made this last night but added cabbage and served over rice. DELICIOUS!!!!!
I couldn’t locate my usual go-to chicken lettuce wrap recipe but found this one and have always loved your other recipes. I AM SO GLAD that I couldn’t find my original one! This was absolutely wonderful! Can’t wait to make it again. Followed the recipe to the letter. It made so much and was delicious! THANK YOU!!!!!!
I made this recipe (doubled) for a sick friend and her family. I almost had to go back to the store to buy more ingredients as I sampled it before delivery. Then I sampled again. And again. IT. IS. DELICIOUS. (And so easy!) The friend and family RAVED about how much they loved it for days and days.
I made the recipe exactly as written, except used ground turkey instead of ground chicken. Perfect! Thank you!
Can’t wait to make, it looks YUMMY!!!! 🙂
Absolutely perfect recipe. My wife and I LOVED it. Change nothing, just follow this recipe as written.
Thanks much!
So so good! I used low sodium soy sauce and added a bit more sriracha sauce. Ended up eating it over lettuce like a salad not lettuce wraps it was awesome. Hubby loves it too. I’m looking forward to lunch tomorrow with leftovers!
Love love love thanks! Does anyone have the copycat recipe for the chili sauce they serve on the side!? They used to mix it tablesise but can’t remeber what it was. GREAT RECIPE!!
Made this for dinner, I ended up using fish sauce to replace salt and it, so delicious. Will make a bigger batch next time.
These were delicious, a 10 out of 10. I served them with the pineapple fried rice that’s also on here, and they were a huge hit. Usually I tinker with recipes to adjust them to my taste, but this needed no changes. When my 7 year old and hubby saw them they were a little dubious, having never had lettuce wraps before, but after tasting them they kept asking for more. Definitely going on my recipe rotation.
Super easy to make and I made this for a potluck at work and everyone loved it! Whenever I need good recipes I go to your site and am never disappointed!
Thank you! Made for dinner tonight and will be sharing your recipe with our readers over at Super Safeway!
I’m tripling the recipe but am nervous that it might dry out if I leave the crackpot on for several hours. I don’t want to ruin the goodness…
these were delicious. i’m gluten intolerant and used tamari sauce in place of soy sauce and it was fantastic. Thanks for the recipe.
My daughters love chicken lettuce wraps and I heard that PF Changs were really good.
We are looking forward to trying this out. Thanks for posting it.
This MAY have already been said in a previous comment but I work at a P.F. Chang’s and I see one missing ingredient that we use in our mix with the water chestnuts. Dried, then rehydrated shiitake mushrooms. Squeeze water after rehydrating Maybe a half pound for this recipe. Not a chef, so I have no clue. Probably don’t have to do all those steps with the mushrooms. Just know that’s what we do in our kitchen. Also know I won’t look back at these comments.
I forgot to add we dice the mushrooms. Good luck.
Thoughts on making this for a party and keeping in a crockpot?
I’m tripling the recipe but am nervous that it might dry out if I leave the crockpot on for several hours. I don’t want to ruin the goodness!
Honestly, it’s hard to say without trying it myself. Sorry!
Love this recipe! I’ve tried several and this one is the easiest and best tasting by far. We skip the hot sauce but add the rice noodles at the end. Could probably eat this everyday. Only problem I have is finding ground chicken. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
You can also sub ground turkey if ground chicken is difficult to find.
These wraps were absolutely amazing. Made them for my wife’s Birthday party and our family mopped them up! We didn’t even get any! So easy to make during the week I will be making them again real soon. I may try a triple batch and freeze some and thaw and reheat when we want it, even as just a snack.
I HATE PF CHANG. i got food poisoning immediately after i ate the food. Don’t eat it .
Seriously, you have to stop Dona. Your food poisoning has absolutely NOTHING to do with this recipe. If you don’t have something constructive to say, leave it alone. It’s time for you to move on. Goodness.
Thank you so much for the recipe. Always trying to come up with new dishes to break the mundane. Myself and my fiancé loved it. And can’t wait to try some of your others. I couldn’t find the right lettuce, but romaine spears worked great. And after scrolling thru comments, people! Good gracious! Cooking is an art. Substitutions and creativity is recommended. This is a guideline. Feel free to jazz it up. Change the lettuce, add some veg or nuts or substitute sauces. You’ll be fine and it will come out great no matter your preferences. Thank you again my dear.
I tried this recipe tonight and thought it was great, might cut back the hoisin sauce to half. Will definitely be making this one again!!
How are you getting over 60 grams of fat in this case recipe? The only ingredient that has fat is chicken and you are draining off the excess fat. The recipe is fantastic.
Thanks for the great recipe. This is the third time I’ve made it. Made some rice for the men in the family and I use bibb lettuce. It really is quite tasty (damn delicious) and quick, easy and inexpensive. I couldn’t ask for anything more in a recipe.
I had about a third of a can of pinto beans left over from taco night and smashed them and added them to the partially cooked chicken. Kids didn’t know.
mmmm made this tonight. 10/10 will make again. Dieting is easy with recipes like these 😉
We had this for dinner tonight and it was so good! We did make spoken rice for the kiddos incase they got too frustrated with the lettuce and just too the rice with the filling , but they WANTED lettuce. It was so cute watching 2 – 3 year olds along with big sis try to eat the wraps. We halved the onion, but everything else was the same. It’s going to go on our rotation for sure! We’ll probably try ground turkey next time.
This is a really good recipe IF…. you double the hoisen sauce… there’s not enough it’s very bland with the amount listed in the ingredients.
After all these posts, mine may not be read, but I have to add that after making this great recipe many times using iceberg and Romaine lettuce, I finally used Boston/butter lettuce. It was a disaster. The Boston lettuce is too flimsy even after soaking in hours in water to maximize the crispiness. I was so embarrassed with the results after serving it too my guests.
The best results I got is using Romaine lettuce. PF Chang uses iceberg lettuce. Why this recipe calls for Boston lettuce is beyond me. If you read this far, you can try the three types of lettuce and draw your own conclusion.
Why did you soak the lettuce for hours?! You ruined the lettuce and it became water logged! Soaking lettuce in water won’t make it crisp. It’s not the lettuces fault or Chungah’s fault, it’s your fault.
The point of the butter lettuce is its softness and pliability, and it’s amazing in this recipe. I’ve had wraps with Romaine, but far prefer the butter lettuce.
I am on a low carbs diet right now. Your lettuce wraps recipe is just what I needed, a healthy dish. easy to make but with a good dose of proteins and fats, I love olive oil.
I am still making these after all these years. So damn delicious! Thank you so much for the recipe. This is a favourite!
Just finished making this for dinner. Didn’t think it would fill us up. End results were absolutely amazing, and we actually have leftovers; ) thank you for sharing!
Just made this recipe for my family, but I tweaked it a bit. I used a package of chicken thighs. Cooked them slowly for about 40 minutes in a mixture of peanut oil, soy , garlic, ginger, black bean sauce and plum sauce. In the mean time, I chopped up some celery, carrot, green onion, water chestnut and bamboo shoots. When the chicken was done, I chopped it very tiny. In a hot pan I sauteed the veggies, then added back the chicken. I added the water chestnuts an green onion last, so they would be crunchy. I also made a sauce with the left over juice and added a slurry to make it thicker. Wow, so delicious!!
Just made this recipe and it is awesome!!!!! I Definitely will use this recipe again!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks for the great recipe. Everyone in my house loved it, and that is not easy to do!
Don’t make the assumption that just because it’s served on lettuce, it’s healthy, much less low carb. This recipe is loaded with carbs and sodium.
I loved your recipe! At PF Chang’s they serve theirs with a little sauce that you spoon over it. Do you know the recipe for their sauce?
Thank you.
Susie
Not at this time – sorry!
BTW – Don’t kill yourself trying to find “Rice Wine Vinegar”. “Rice Vinegar” is readily available at any grocery store and it is virtually indistinguishable from the rice wine vinegar.
I know that this is a copy cat recipe and it IS delicious but if you want to change it up, add 1 shredded carrot and some peanuts or cashews. Maybe even a drizzle of toasted sesame oil at the very end. I upped the hoisin sauce to 1/3 cup instead of 1/4 cup. I made it once with ground turkey and once with ground chicken. Both seem to work well. If you don’t have all fresh ingredients on hand, I did a cheaters version that used 1 1/2 t ground ginger and 1 1/2 t garlic powder. I was hesitant to use an entire chopped onion so I scaled back a little on the 1st batch. I used an entire onion in the 2nd batch. Don’t let the 1 full onion scare you. It’s fine. I also consider the Sriracha sauce (or any red chili sauce) to be essential. I like a little heat so I actually used 2 T of sriracha instead of the 1 T that is listed. I skipped the added salt completly. There is so much salt in the other elements of the recipe, you don’t need any additional salt. It’s a great recipe. Thank you!
Made this tonight and my husband and I loved it. He is the pickiest eater ever and he went back for seconds. Its missing a few original ingredients like mushrooms and rice noodles, but I still thought it tasted fabulous.
Is the serving size the whole batch? Trying to track my macros
The nutritional information is for each serving.
Love your recipes and those lettuce wraps, I just drool over them but I would like to know just how many of your recipes could be appropriate for Diabetics or altered to make them Diabetic friendly (I try but I make for a terrible Diabetic)..
Thank you
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
Yum! I love lettuce wraps, and thanks to you, I have a new favorite. I’ll be making this often!
I so enjoy your site and your recipes. Would you please consider adding a print option so we can enjoy your recipes a little more easily. Thank you.
Gloria, there actually is a print option so you can easily save my recipes – just look for the PRINT RECIPE button located in the recipe box. You can’t miss it!
These were amazing! And so quick & easy!
Thank you for this recipe. It was amazing and even better than PF Chang’s! It was awesome with turkey 🙂 The lettuce I got was a little too wilted for wraps, so I chopped it up into a salad with the filling on top and it was still really really good!
I felt compelled to leave a comment. I have made this dish from this very recipe a good 4 times already and it never fails. I use other Asian ingredients I have laying around also just because they are there, but if you follow the recipe as is, it is delicious. I add a little oyster sauce, sesame oil, and sambal.
Sadly I was a Sou Chef for PF Changs for 2 years and this is not close to the recipe. We used Mushrooms that were fried. No saracha is in the recipe as well as rice wine. So you Grind the chicken and cook with about half a cup of garlic (Per wok) you use WHITE pepper, black doesn’t come close to the flavor. Pf change is americanized so the true flavors you will never come close to unless your travel. I Replace the Ginger with galangal (Spicy Ginger) to give it a bit of bite. But this is supposed to be a savory dish not spicy. Use water chests nuts and soy sauce. Those are the only ingredients in chicken lettuce wraps. Anyone who tells your didn’t doesn’t know true asian cuisine.
Who told you how to write? You’re a chef and you can’t properly dictate you’re ingredients? Or spell the name of your restaurant or clearly advise as to why different types of pepper make a difference. No wonder you worked at PF Changs
When I made it – a friend said OMG this tastes better than PF Chang”s!!!! Funny you should say, I said… !
is it 8g sugar one wrap or the whole meal?
The nutritional information is for each serving, not for each wrap.
Kids loved it. My wife and I – not so much. Wasn’t bad, but definitely lacked something compared to our experience at PF Chang. I used legitimate hoisin sauce and went light on the siracha sauce for my wife and daughter. Would really have liked to have instructions on the side sauce.
This recipe ISO much better than PF Changs. Thanks so much for sharing. Love your site!
These even smelled good while they were cooking and so easy to make. Whole family loved them. Had to cut my kids off so there would be enough for everyone.
These were awesome! I used turkey instead of chicken and still turned out great. They seemed fine without any additional sauce as well, but I did use some Sriracha for dipping. Thanks for the recipe – definitely going to be a go-to!
Ok – I rarely leave comments on food blogs, although I voraciously read them. But I made this a couple of days ago – on Valentine’s Day, to be precise, to share as a loving plate – and this recipe is legitimately damn delicious. My husband said it blows away PF Chang’s version. I loved it so much that I am making a big batch of it to share with coworkers next week. I love taking the results of good recipes to work to share – and I will definitely be sharing the link to your recipe.
I did have one minor modification as it was what was available in my kitchen – I cut up some boneless chicken thighs into small-ish strips and sautéed that up instead of using ground (didn’t have any ground).
This recipe is definitely one to keep around.
Thank you so much for posting this! Just made it and it came out great! I also added carrots and cabbage (diced in food processor) instead of water chestnuts. Everyone loved it – even my 2 year old.
I know PFChangs and Pei Wei are the same company however I have never been to PFChangs. Do they put the lettuce wrap sauce on it as well? If so do you know how to copy the sauce?
Unfortunately, I do not have the sauce recipe available at this time.
This looks so yummy! Also perfect for my diet! can’t wait to try it!
Sounds like you have crappy take-out food in the UK. That stinks for you.
I made these tonight and they were a hit! Even my 1 year old daughter liked them! I’m making them again on Saturday for a potluck. Thank you!!
I used Dark Soy sauce, which is a bit sweeter and much better tasting than regular soy sauce, and it took this dish from really good to AMAZING!
Oh my! I adore these lettuce cups! One of my favorite dinners ever!
I’ve made these many times, and they’re always a hit! At home, I’ll throw in crimini mushrooms, black bean sauce, and chill paste and top with matchstick carrots, lime, cilantro, and peanuts. For a crowd, I keep it simple, chuck into a crock pot, and bring rice as a side. Thanks for a recipe that keeps making me look like an awesome cook! 🙂
I have made these many times and even when we had guests over. My husband loves these. I did not use the chestnuts or green onion. Kept it simple. Super delicious.
PF Chang’s chicken lettuce wraps taste pretty dang good. I’m not sure how to beat that by 1M times, but I’m willing to give it a try.
Now if you could just replicate the ambience at the restaurant, you’d be all set.
I’ve had both. Believe me, she’s not kidding about hers being better.
Recipe calls for 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
I found wine vinegar and rice vinegar but not that which is listed. I’m about to make this, wish me luck.
OK, used the rice vinegar. This was great. Family loved it (made rice for them; I did the lettuce wraps) and it will be on the rotation in this house. Thank you very much.
My husband is obsessed with this dish and asks for it about twice a month. Thank you! Your site is amazing.
I’ve been making this for a LLOOOOOONGG time and perfecting (to my taste anyway) it along the way. I’ve found that ground TURKEY is even better. It adds a bit more flavor all around and less fat. VERY tasty!!!
Would you happen to have the recipe for the sauce they use on these.? They are wonderful buy the way!! We love them!!!
Unfortunately, I do not.
they use hoisin sauce. Most grocery stores have it. I added some sesame oil
I’ve had both. Believe me, she’s not kidding about hers being better.
I usually add some chopped mushrooms and reduce the hoisin to half…super recipe!
Made this tonight. My husband put this on the “make again” list. This is so delicious and I agree, better than PF Chang’s. Partially because there are no mushrooms, partially because you can customize it. Overall, absolutely wonderful!
I stumbled across this recipe about a month ago and I’ve made it at least 4 times since then. Better than any CHICKEN LETTUCE WRAPS I’ve ever had anywhere. Tonight I added in an extra helping of ginger and reduced the hoisin to sauce to just 2 TBSP. For anyone watching calorie intake/output this saves you literally hundreds of calories. Thank you so much for your recipes. This is my favorite go-to quick dinner
I am try this recipe for soy chunk. yummy taste
I came by this recipe while looking for dinner recipe ideas on Pinterest. I love PF Chang’s lettuce wraps, so of course I was excited to try this recipe. Not only was this super easy to make, it was absolutely delicious. I am now anxious to try some of your other recipes. Thank you! You have a fan in me!
What is the serving size? Is it 1/2 cup of chicken mixture? I’m not sure what the nutritional content is and would like to know. Can anyone answer this? Please and thank you
Yes, each serving is roughly 1/2 – 1/3 cup.
Thanks for the recipe! Tonight was the second time I’ve made this and my whole family LOVES it. My 8 year old daughter says it’s her favorite dinner and calls it PF Mommy night. Just want to say thanks!
Have made 2 batches of this, this week alone! Took it to my office & ate at my desk – everyone was raving about the aroma & wanted the recipe, so now you have a bunch of NYC’ers on this receipe. Well done! I even bought a food processor last night to quicken up round 2 & it was way easier.
Just made tonight and it is fabulously delish!! Thanks so much for this copycat recipe. I can’t wait to try your other ones. Only change I made was to use ground turkey because it was actually a little leaner than the ground chicken at my grocer’s.
I made these for the first time tonight….it won’t be the last! They were fantastic! Super easy and quick to make. My family thanks you!
Low carb, high flavor. I’m totally sold! These look SO tasty, and they’re 100% family friendly! Cannot wait to give these a try! Maybe if you add the yogurt and spoon in serving will become even more wonderful.
This looks a like Gimmie Some Oven post! same pictures and everything, were is the credit?!?
Are you referring to this post? http://www.gimmesomeoven.com/orange-chicken-lettuce-wraps/
She posted her recipe in July 2016 and my images here were posted in May 2014 so shouldn’t you be asking her for credit?
Could this be made the day before serving?
Yes, absolutely.
Thanks! Looks wonderful!
I just made these and they were absolutely amazing and super easy! I added in some diced mushrooms and used turkey instead of chicken (my grocery store didn’t have ground chicken) but I followed the recipe for everything else. I will be adding this recipe into my rotation for sure.
Well, you already have 384 rave reviews on this dish, but I still feel I need to chime in. I’ve had this recipe for what seems like forever, and just tried it tonight. It’s a raging heat wave in SoCal, and it just seemed to fit the bill. I got two beautiful heads of Butter Lettuce at the farmer’s market today, and the only change I made was to make it with ground turkey instead of chicken…. We had your
Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken last night, which was outstanding as well and I just didn’t want to repeat the protein. Oh my goodness! The lettuce wraps were great with ground turkey! Both recipes a definite keepers, as always! Thank you!
Made this tonight and it was excellent!! Thank you!
This wasn’t too bad.
Is it bad that i ate it in one sitting? haha
Absolutely not! 🙂
Very good. Although not as good as PF Chang’s. Something is missing.
I made these for dinner tonight. So easy, delicious, and guilt free! Thank you for a great recipe!
Made tonight, and husband and 7 YO liked it so well that we will have again. Added lime juice and basil with the cilantro at the end to give more of a Thai flavor, which we really liked and would do again. Skipped the water chestnuts. Easy meal!
I was about to make this recipe tonight until I discovered I had no more hoisin sauce, then I found I could make my own, so I did. I used ground turkey, since that was what I had on hand. This recipe was bursting with flavor. My husband asked for seconds! He really enjoyed it, even without rice (which he loves). I will definitely make this again. I agree that it is beneficially healthful to make copycat recipes, as you can adjust the ingredients, such as sodium, which I did, to make a healthier version of the original. This recipe is a keeper. I will attempt to make more recipes on your site. Thank you for sharing.
The recipe is great, and the conversation turning into an international bash is priceless.. b.t.w I am an American and we did not kick Englands butt.. or whatever exact words were used. Many factors contributed to the victory and if you know history we were very lucky on multiple fronts. Anyway..great copycat recipe.
Super yummy recipe! Thanks to others’ suggestions I added grated carrot as a garnish, along with cilantro. Going to add bean sprouts next time! I made them a couple of weeks ago and wanted to make them again tonight, but due to food on hand that needed to be eaten must wait until tomorrow… 🙁 And here’s the kicker: my young adult son who eats very few veggies was disappointed that we’ll have to wait! He is a sriracha fan, so we had extra as a condiment, plus bottled peanut sauce. Will make my own hoisin and peanut sauces in the future!
This recipe was amazing! I did a homemade hoisin sauce, and it was seriously incredible! My skeptical husband even loved them 🙂
There are many PF Changs copycat recipes out there but this one is BY FAR the best! I’ve made it so many times and every time it’s amazing! Rave reviews from everyone I’ve made it for. Ground turkey works great too if you can’t get ground chicken. I also add chopped roasted (unsalted) cashews for an extra bit of crunch!
I just had to share that I made these tonight and they were PHENOMENAL! I used ground pork because my grocery store didn’t carry ground chicks and I didn’t see all the comments about food processing my own. They were so so so amazing! Even better than the real ones from PF Changs! I’ll be making these all the time!
what kind of lettuce works best for the cups?
Butter lettuce.
YOU ARE A FOOD WIZARD. these were amazing! I have never had the ones from PF Changs but they looked great on your website; I was going to make these as a starter then move on to your PE orange chicken for the entree, but I am so stuffed I need a wheelbarrow! keep up the amazing recipes, and thank you for ending my search for Asian recipes that taste like takeout! (but yours are better!)
This was so quick and easy! My mom has a very similar recipe, but has more ingredients and would chop up the chicken herself. Growing up it was always our task (my sister and me) to chop up all the ingredients and it always seemed to take FOREVER! So as an adult I’ve avoided making what I thought was a labor intensive dish. This proved me wrong! Certainly being added to our dinner rotation!
This PF Chang’s is spot on, I pointed to it in a buzzfeed article of top PF Chang’s copycats! Really good thanks!
I made this for the first time a couple weeks ago, and I doubled the recipe, and WOW. Delicious. Ate it literally every night for dinner until it was gone. I’m making it again tonight! Lately nothing sounds appetizing to me, but these do, so I better give my stomach what it needs, right?
Hoison sauce had too much sugar for my liking so I used Teryaki and you can skip the soy cause it has enough soy in it. Kids loved it, I love it. Thanks. This will become my new go to dinner. We also added some yummy red peppers and skipped the hot sauce. THANKS!
This is delicious. Great flavors – very fresh. Two observations. I used ground turkey breast since chicken wasn’t easily found and I live in Chicago…? Also, next time i will probably add a teaspoon on corn starch to the liquid(s) before mixing in the meat. The sauce was perfect in flavor just did not cling to the meat and ran out of the warps.
I’ve made this recipe several times, and I was never happy with the “lettuce” part of this…the hot filling made the lettuce wilt and fall apart. I took some leftovers to work with a flour tortilla, and it was delicious. So that’s how I serve it now, with lettuce and tomato. I also add some diced carrots and no hot sauce.
I was excited to try this recipe. But it was too sweet for me. Will use less hoisin next time, but not likely to be any time soon since the husband and kids didn’t like them. (And they like almost everything I cook.)
I made this tonight for myself and my picky boyfriend and he loved them! For spicy lovers, I’d recommend adding 1.5 tsp of Sriracha. I will definitely be making this regularly!
Who would have thought that a wonderful little recipe for lettuce wraps (accolades Chungah!) would have turned into “Politico” discussions? Wow, thought we had enough bashing by our #1 Ugly American nasty, the “Donald”! I love cooking and I’m pretty sure everyone here is a “Foodie” too. Leave the mud slinging to the fools who sling it and let’s sling hash or whatever floats your boat! Besides the time of the year for new beginning…
Peace, out, y’all!
Even though this “discussion” began nearly two (!) years ago, I had the same thought about the Trump-like nature of those comments, the same sort of comments you read for virtually any political article about any presidential candidate these days– i.e. petty, mean, and extremely tiresome. It’s bad enough to read that nonsense in the papers, but I never thought I’d have to contend with that on a food blogging site!
As an almost-senior citizen, my advice is to choose your battles folks. Believe me, there are FAR more important issues to deal with in life than a food fight between the US and UK! Good grief.
On a happier note, I’m trying this recipe, Chungah! Just what I was looking for! Thanks 🙂
This was so good! I made some changes. I used ground turkey instead of chicken, doubled the ginger (I love ginger!) and I omitted the water chestnuts. I will absolutely make it again. Thank you for a recipe that is quick, easy and delicious!
Chunga! This was so awesome!! We are on a low-carb diet and this was the ticket! I’ve used so many of your recipes the last couple of years! Please keep posting your great recipes!!
very good! thanks for sharing 🙂
*palate, not pallet.
Tikka masala was almost certainly invented in Britain, despite the ingredients being brought from India. Brits also did not breed cattle or other farm animals until very late in the game (as it were); sheep and fish were their food sources.
I think many people have mentioned carefully, and not so carefully, is that you two are behaving very crassly about misconceptions about one another’s cultural food behaviouralisms. The board is being kind to the author about her delicious wraps. So why don’t you make her wraps and comment on her wraps?
I absolutely love ginger and water chestnuts, so I am anxious to try them, although for me I think I’ll have some rice along with the “tacos.”
Easy and delicious! We didn’t have ground chicken, so I diced and cooked chicken breasts and a thigh, then put them in the food processor. It came out really well. Will definitely make these again! Thank you
This looks AMAZING! What would yall serve with this dish?
So easy to make. So delicious! Will definitely put these on my favorites list. Thank you! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much!! These were delicious, easy, and my toddler gobbled them up, even the lettuce with a little encouragement for my little bunny!
Have made these twice now and love them! Thank you!
Made these for New Years Eve for my husband & I as an appetizer & we absolutely loved them! The sauce is so flavorful. I made them with ground turkey. Along with the water chestnuts I added finely chopped carrots and celery for added crunch. Also sprinkled on some sesame seeds. Love your recipes Chungah. I’ve tried a few with great success and will definitely try others. Thanks for sharing them with us!
Fantastic! We just double the recipe and glad we did so! My fiancé does not like water chestnuts, so I substituted topping with a sesame ginger dressed broccoli slaw. Will make again!
Oh I just ate these at the restaurant last months. Thank you for sharing. I can’t wait to try these!
I just made these and they came out perfect! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Made these for dinner tonight, SO good! Thank you!
LOVED these and so did my husband and teenage sons. Wow! This will be a new addition to my dinner menu rotation. Thanks!
This smells Amazing while cooking and Tastes So Wonderful !
Can not wait to explore more of your recipes !
Amazing!!!! So good and fresh!
This is the first recipe of yours that I tried. It was so good. I added the crispy fried rice noodles for the finishing touch. My whole family loved it. I will be making it again.
People really, get off your computer and go cook something! Some of you just are to high drama.
Omg these were yummy and so easy! I will definitely make these again. Thanks for sharing!!
I am so excited I found this recipe…I am going to make it tomorrow for dinner!!! I <3 lettuce wraps from P.F. Changs….I was wondering if you have a recipe for the dipping sauce????
Thanks so much!!!
Unfortunately, I do not have the recipe for the dipping sauce at this time.
Hi Chungah,
I did not see the nutritional info for this recipe. Is it available?
Thanks!

Amy,
This isn’t a PF Chang recipe, but a recipe for dip that we got from Thai Basil in Charlotte, NC – you can adjust the heat as you like:
Sweet & Sour Sauce, Garlic Chili Sauce and Hoisin Sauce – mix and top with chopped peanuts. We use this for dipping egg rolls or steamed dumplings. I’ve stirred it into stir fry and even just Chinese noodles for a quick side dish. It’s PERFECT with these lettuce wraps (and I’m making them tonight along with the dip!)
This recipe has far too much ginger in it! The ginger trumps all the other flavors, if I make this again I will use a third of the amount and hope it tastes better :/.
Great recipe! I added bean sprouts, Thai basil and another pound of ground chicken since I don’t like things too spicy. Served with a little hoisin sauce to spread on the lettuce before piling on the meat. Perfect.
just made these for dinner tonight and they were sooo good. I used 3/4 tsp of ground ginger instead of real ginger. 1 cup of “ready to eat” edamame instead of the water chestnuts since I’m not a fan. My husband couldn’t stop raving about this dish. Had it with a side of frozen gyoza and the 2 of us gobbled everything down.
Replaced chicken by veal and added crispy Chinese noodles. Delicious.
I have made this two nights in a row! Can’t get enough!! My aunt gave me a good tip…….
TIP: DOUBLE the SAUCE ingredients including the siracha
I made the PF Change lettuce wraps two nights (or nites) in a row! My husband can’t get enough of it! It’s very quick and very easy but tastes like it has a great deal of difficulty! Yum yum!!! Love the recipe! Thanks for sharing! It’s VERY healthy! Does anyone know what the weight watchers points / serving for this is?
I made this last night for a few friends and there was not one crumb left- and I made a double batch! My favorite comment was “you must have put crack in this because I can’t stop eating it!” I made it ahead of time and reheated in a skillet. I put the lettuce leaves on a chilled platter and served the chicken in a large bowl that I warmed in the oven. This is a WINNER!
These look awesome!
I also don’t have Hoison sauce. Is that gonna make a big difference?
Yes, hoisin sauce is a key ingredient in this dish. I do not recommend omitting.
I have ground turkey meat in the fridge.. Do you think it will still be just as good to use? I’m trying not to waste lol
Ground turkey is a great substitution!
Awesome! It was so yummy! New family favorite
I am making this tomorrow. Any idea how many carbs per serving?

Made this for my co-workers for lunch today!! super easy and very tasty. They all loved it!
I made this last night and it was SO GOOD! My boyfriend and I gobbled it all up within half an hour. I have made some of your recipes in the past and they have always turned out good. It is so nice to have a website that I can trust!
Recipe sounds great, regardless of all the British vs. American food war comments (weird).
Would this dish be considered “larb”? I had larb at a Thai restaurant and always wanted to replicate it.
Yes! I hope you get a chance to try it 🙂
I can’t get enough of these. They are great–one of my favorites!
Made these tonight exactly as written and they were delicious! A little sweet chili sauce makes a nice addition if someone wants a dipping sauce. Thank you for the recipe!
thank you for sharing this recipe. i made this recipe following your exact directions but tripled it and it was so freakin delicious!! definitely going to be a keeper
I am falling more and more in love with your blog! I ran into this recipe on an obscure little pin on pinterest. My husband and I love PF Changs, but don’t always have PF Chang money, and not to mention we have two young kids, so eating out gets much more expensive. I typically have a lot of Asian style ingredients on hand because we cook a lot of Asian food, so this recipe was actually quite budget friendly for us! We only had to buy the meat, lettuce, and I was running low on soy sauce, so grabbed that too. My local store didn’t have ground chicken, so we used turkey instead, and I omitted the water chestnuts because I never really cared for them. I can say with certainty though that this was a five star dish, better than the one I fell in love with at PF Changs. It’s simple, healthy, and cheap. Three buzzwords for me 🙂 Thanks for this recipe. I will be incorporating it often in our weekly lunches.
This was a great recipe! If you are concerned about salt like me, use a low sodium soy sauce and cut back on the added salt – it still tasted plenty salty to me! This was a quick dinner recipe and the leftovers heated well – my boyfriend loved it too!
I didn’t even add extra salt and it tasted just fine, and I used low sodium soy sauce too.
I made this for dinner Saturday and it was fantastic. I left out the green onions and the Sriracha Sauce, some in my family have wimpy tongues. I will definitely be making this many more times in the future.
Thank you for posting this. I made them for dinner last night and my husband and my son loved them. I was looking for the Wokcano recipe and this was very close so I just improvised a little and they were pretty spot on. I use Jennie-O ground turkey for mine it’s pretty much the same as the ground chicken but I like the quality a bit better.
I made this just now. Guess what? It is delicious! Thank You so very much!
I’ve made a # of your recipes and always like them. These lettuce wraps are no exception. Made them tonight for the 2nd time, minus the green onions on top. I did make a topper sauce of hoisin, soy sauce and stone-ground mustard. It was delicious…again!
Made this last night and loved it!! Will definitely be making it again.
I’m curious if you ever calculate the nutritional information on your recipes, I find that info very helpful.
This meal was so good I look forward to trying some of your other stuff!
I’m so glad you enjoyed this recipe, Kate!

Just made these lettuce wraps last night and it was delicious and easy. I also added some chopped baby bella mushrooms. I’ll make this again for sure.
Ive made other copycat PF Chang recipes and they were just as good but they took forever to prepare! Making the sauce from scratch. This was awesome, super quick, and so easy!! Thank you! This is the only version I will need from now on.
I’m trying this tonight! Thanks for the recipe
I absolutely love this recipe! It’s so delicious and easy to make – its a staple in my household. My hubby and I have quit our jobs to travel for a year, so I’ve now been making this all around the world 🙂 (check out our adventures on http://www.thinkofallthestories.com, if you’d like!) Thanks for the wonderful recipe, Chungah!
I made this tonight for dinner and it was delicious!! I made it with turkey instead of chicken because I always have ground turkey on hand in my freezer and it was still great and just a tad leaner. The sriratcha really makes the sauce! My husband loved it too! He raved about it and ate 6 lettuce wraps!! Thanks for the recipe!
I am so impressed with all the great comments on these lettuce wraps. I am going to make these Sunday for Father’s Day. My son is a terrific single daddy to his 3 young ones & l think he will love these. My grandchildren will be here, too, of course and are all very picky eaters but will at least try anything. I hope l have found something we all will enjoy. I know l will love them so l will be doubling the recipe because l know l will eat all if any are left. I will let you know. I am excited to make these. It doesn’t take much to excite a doting grandmother. LO L.
Just finished making this recipe an hour ago and I must say, its quite delicious! Thank you so much for sharing, my family appreciates it and they’re happy I made double the recipe… Hopefully it’ll last a couple days… Lol
Made these for dinner last night & they were awesome. Husband ate every bit so no left overs for lunch!
Modified these a bit to suit our tastes (more ginger and used thigh and breast meat, and cooked chicken in sesame oil) and they were fantastic. Nothing like PF Changs (I do like their wraps) but delicious none the less! Company worthy for sure!
With an abundance of fresh lettuce I found your recipe and decided to try to, never having PF Chang version. This was great thank you so much for creating or ‘recreating’ this recipe. Glad I found your website and look forward to trying other recipes on your site
I’m planning on making this but I can’t find rice wine vinegar anywhere. Can I use rice vinegar instead?
Yes, rice vinegar should work just fine.
I made this last night and OMG the flavors were excellent! My normally picky husband gobbled down most of it before i even sat down. I will definitely make it again soon. Thank you for yet another great recipe!
Hi beautiful, can I use ground pork or sausage?
Ground pork would be a great substitute.
Just made these and they are DELICIOUS! Super easy to make too. I plan on making them when I have family come and visit in a few weeks. Thanks for posting this recipe!
I made these last night and they were superb! After reading the comments, I decided to make my own hoisin sauce, instead of buying a whole bottle of it. (I used this recipe: http://www.food.com/recipe/homemade-hoisin-sauce-312992) I also added diced red peppers to the mix. These were so fast to whip up, especially on a weeknight. Wlil definitely be making them again, thanks! 🙂
Made these last night. Used turkey instead of chicken, and cashews instead of water chestnuts. Soooo delicious. My fiance went back for thirds. Will definitely add this as a staple in our future dinner menus.
ooooh! will definitely try the cashews next time!
Thank you for the amazing recipes! I skipped the ginger and they were so delicious… we each made a side sauce mixing soy sauce and spicy green sriracha sauce to our own heat preference to put on top. 2nd time making it and had to write to let you know it was a HIT!
I would love to see “Copy Cat” recipes as a recipe section on your website. love these! As well, I would love to see a post that would list pantry basics that your recipes tend to call for, especially for your Asian stuff. Seriously love your site, your easy & tasty recipes have got me cooking again for my family!
Oh my yummy goodness, I just made this and it was the best thing I’ve ever made! Thank you so much for the delicious recipe!
I have made this dish FREQUENTLY! This dish got my 8 year old to even EAT lettuce! It’s amazing and I agree with several others that this recipe is much tastier than PF Chang’s! This is dinner tonight and we can hardly wait! Thanks for a GREAT go to meal, safely stashed in my recipe book!
I made this recipe for my family last night and it was a HUGE hit! And tasted without a doubt very close to the original!!! YOU HAVE A HIT ON YOUR HANDS HERE! THANK YOU!
@Bill , you are another traumatized humiliating AMERICAN, get over, LOL
I loved this recipe and had all the ingredients in my fridge already. Healthy and delicious. I added julienne carrots and bean sprouts for some added crunch. Yummy. Love this site.
I have been putting this recipe in my menu rotation for months now, and I just thought that I should leave a comment. It’s the least I can do after you giving me such an amazing meal for weeknight dinners. It’s super easy, super fast, and so delicious, just as advertised! Thank you, and I love your site. =)
I just made this recipe with ground turkey and it is delicious!
Thanks so much for this recipe!!! I am so obsessed that I make a double batch every Sunday. Luckily, Costco has the butter lettuce since I am tearing thru so much! I have made w turkey and chicken and although the I like the chicken a lil better, the turkey is just as good (and i can get it at Costco). I eat topped w diced avocado and drizzle w Sriracha (b/c the hubby likes and makes it look gourmet :). LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!!!!
Made this last night. Quick & everyone loved them! Only thing is I couldn’t stand the ginger taste…next time I will only put in a tiny bit or none at all. Thank you!
I love the recipe. The family did too. Thanks! My 8 year old said that I have to put this on the menu.
So it goes on the Menu. All love!
I am making this tonight for the second time. We use grassfed ground beef and organic ingredients whenever possible. It is hard to find the asian sauces in organic so I’m using alot of the regular ones. But the flavor of this is just yummy. So. freaking. good.
Wanting to utilize what I have in my kitchen, and also not owning a food processor, how would you suggest using boneless, skiness chicken thighs in this recipe? I was thinking of boiling them until they pull apart, then cook as per recipe. What say you?
That sounds like a great idea!
So good! They are now a staple at my house.
We had these at PF Changs which reminded me to look for the recipe. Made them tonight with ground turkey and subbed celery for the water chestnuts because that was what was on hand. It was wonderful! Tastes so much like the restaurant. I think the wraps are a bit messy so I make a bed of shredded lettuce and top with the meat 😉
I’m a sucker for copycat recipes and I have to say, this one is DELISH! I used 2tbsp of hoisin instead of the 1/4 cup and skipped the water chestnuts to cut down the calories/carbs (240 cals / 54g carbs less). I do want to ask; how many wraps is 1 serving?? 4wraps; 6 wraps?
Mara, it’s really difficult to answer how many wraps is equivalent to a single serving especially because some people tend to fill their wraps up more so than others! It may be helpful to divide the mixture into 4 equal servings to serve 4. Hope that helps!
Who cares what Pete says? Thanks for the recipe.
Fast and east and SO delicious. A great low-carb meal. Kids loved it too. Thanks!
This is a terrific recipe that has become a part of our regular rotation. Thank you!!!
Wowwwww, so many divisive comments up top! Well, I just came to say, I could’ve sworn this recipe had oyster sauce when I saved the link, not hoisin sauce! Was I dreaming?? Anyway, I’m about to step inside the supermarket to get the ingredients, so we shall see how this all pans out! 🙂
Love It!!! My picky eating children ate this up and I had to beat them off so I could get some.
Wow, made these tonight and I can see that I will have to double the recipe from now on, because these go FAST! I am looking forward to serving this when we have company. Thanks again for another amazing, simple, and easy recipe! I have to say…everything I’ve made from your blog so far has been so delicious!
I have been thinking a lot about chicken wraps the past few days, and when I logged in to Pinterest this morning it recommended your recipe! I guess I should take it as a sign that I need to make these lettuce wraps, and I cannot wait because they look delish!!
I have been making these in my regular rotation for several weeks now but am just getting around to commenting. In a word – fantastic! I leave out both of the types of onion and also the water chestnuts (personal preferences) and just use plain, old romaine lettuce. They have such a wonderful flavor, you could put this on top of a piece of cardboard and it would still taste great!
I have made these a few times now and they are DELICIOUS!!! If you haven’t tried them yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. Oh and did I mention o n how easy they are to make!
Made these for dinner tonight!! Best recipe I’ve tried at home so far!
I made it with Cilantro Lime Rice. Will be making again very soon! Thanks!!
These Lettuce Wraps look delicious, thanks! Also, the “Godwin’s Law” style diversion into WWII was a fun read. I suggest we call them “Liberty Wraps”. Thanks!
Om goshhhh I made these tonight with a friend over she absolutely loved them sooooo good that we both ate an entire pound of ground turkey each hehe LOVE!!
This is a fabulous recipe, will need to dbl so I can have some leftovers next time!!! Thanks!
Made this for dinner tonight. Followed the recipe exactly. It was delicious and easy. Thanks! I’ll make this again!
Does anyone know how many carbs are in this per serving?
Nutritional information is provided only for select and new recipes at this time. However, if it is not available for a specific recipe, it is best that you use free online resources at your discretion (you can gooogle “nutritional calculator”) to obtain such information.
I made these tonight for our family appetizer night. I added grated carrots, tho. I made a sauce as well and used rice noodles as a garnish! De-lish!
This is amazing!! My children even ate it, which is nothing short of a miracle! We should have doubled it…they would have polished it off, I’m sure!
Looking forward to trying this recipe! As for Food in the UK, I have had some of the best meals in my 65 years in Scotland. The world is full of great food !
Pete and Bill ……what can we say ? whoa you guys need to go back into the kitchen and work it off . this awesome recipe is not meant to be destroyed by your bad attitudes . thank you Chungah for the recipe and lively discussion
This is a keeper! Yum! Next time I might see how many more veggies I can squeeze into this dish. Very versatile! Thank you!
Michelle, I had the same thought, so far I came up with a list of, diced celery, diced red bell peppers, chopped mushrooms, bean sprouts or pea shoots, and as a garnish, julienned carrots (I can only eat raw carrots-on a very restricted healing diet), plenty of chopped cilantro and/or parsley and black sesame seeds. And only because I’m crazy about them, rice noodles, just a few, and a T or 2 of Sesame Oil. I figured that should give me 2 to 3 times as many veggies as meat/noodles. Good luck with your creation!
Chung-Ah, thank you for this post, I can’t wait to make it, with extra veggies!
So good – my new favorite! Thank you for sharing.
Made this last night for the first time. I absolutely loved this recipe. Definitely a keeper.
Thanks for sharing!
Just made this and it is so good!!! Easy too!
I’m trying to make this for my dad who is on a potassium restricted diet. How can I get the nutrition information for this recipe? Thanks so much!
Nutritional information is provided only for select and new recipes at this time. However, if it is not available for a specific recipe, it is best that you use free online resources at your discretion (you can gooogle “nutritional calculator”) to obtain such information.
This is a wonderful recipe. Our little family loved it. We have to double the ingredients!
Thanks for another great recipe! This is my fav dish at PF Changs! Your recipe is a delight!! Easy peasy and yummy!!
This recipe was quick, easy and tasty! My 14 yr. old daughter actually did the cooking tonight and let me have a break! 😉
These were really good! I don’t know how quick it is though. It took me quite a while to grate ginger, mince garlic, chop green onion, chop onion, chop chestnuts, and wash lettuce. I’m not complaining, it was still delicious!
I didn’t read all the comments so I don’t know if someone already mentioned but DO NOT ADD SALT! the soy sauce alone has plenty of it. Thankfully I already know from experience but for someone who isn’t as experienced could possibly ruin the whole meal. other than that, they were delicious!!! thanks for posting!!
Good morning! I am thinking of making your lettuce wraps for dinner since your Pork Potstickers were a hit last week! I just have one question. Do you think that you could substitute sesame oil for the rice wine vinegar?
Samantha
Unfortunately, I just don’t think sesame oil is an appropriate substitute for the rice wine vinegar. It is always best to use the ingredients listed in the recipe to obtain the best results possible.
I love these and make them often, we top ours with a sprinkling of chopped wasabi soy almonds and it adds the perfect finishing touch!
Made these tonight & they were super quick, easy & delicious! My boys are 10 & 14 and they usually don’t eat lettuce. That was not the case tonight! Glad we made a double batch so we can enjoy the left-overs!
Made this the other night and they were DELICIOUS!!! Even my husband said they were great and the recipe is a keeper!!
For the record, hoisin sauce is actually quite high in carbs and sugar. :-/
It’s a good thing that there’s only 1 TBS per serving, even less if you stretch this out to 6 servings!
Made these tonight. Quick, easy and DELICIOUS!!! My hubby lived them too. Next time I will make two batches, one spicy for us and one mild for our toddler. These are definitely going to be in my regular rotation! I am becoming a huge fan of your recipes! Fantastic!
Thank you for posting, I am going to try these tonight!!! I can’t wait!!
My friend shared this recipe link with me and it is so delicious that I just had to post a “thank you”!
You are very welcome!
Do you know how many calories it is per serving? Just made them and they were amaaaazing!
Ashley, I try my very best to provide nutritional information for my recipes. However, if they are not available, it is best that you use free online resources at your discretion (you can gooogle “nutritional calculator”) to obtain such information.
I found your site about a month ago and I’ve made these chicken wraps out times since then. I have a big bowl of it in the fridge and my teenagers devour them after school. I can’t wait to try some of your other recipes.
Is store bought ground chicken dark meat? Could I take a raw chicken breast and process it in my food processor? Would it turn out about the same?
Cindy, it is fine to use a food processor.
I made this for my family last night and even my picky 8 year old gobbled it up and asked for more. Next time I will need to double the recipe and plan not to have leftovers. It was amazing! Thank you so much for sharing!
Made this tonight. It was delicious! Will be making this a lot! Thank you for sharing!
I had never had pf Chang’s lettuce wraps before. I had made these because the recipe looked great. I recently had PF Chang’s lettuce wraps and have to say that these are WAYYYYY better. The PF Chang’s were super salty and not nearly as delicious!
Wow, a simple cultural difference observation sparks so much controversy! Those who found Pete’s comment offensive are obviously insecure and, most probably, have not travelled much. To stir up more controversy, I, also, hail from a country where the food would be considered bland and tasteless by an average American. When you grow up on over sugared, oversalted, over-ketchupped and hot sauced diet, food in its’ natural form will have limited appeal. I love the varied cuisines and options here and enjoy trying new recipes, but I can find as much enjoyment in a fresh tomato with a dash of salt.
I apologize for commenting on something not related to the recipe, but this small-town offensiveness with rude comments reflects poorly on American culture.
I am looking forward to trying this recipe!
Thank you! On my to do list! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
So delicious and quick! Thank you!
I am an American and I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the UK and Ireland, and of course at home. I will say this- I was at my thinnest when I lived overseas…not military. There were good and bad things about food….they have fast food there too and good food and mediocre food and bad food. But we do too. But our simple massive country and multiple climates and cultures gives us an advantage food-wise….except in Minot, North Dakota….where it’s slim pickings in the food department. I would kill for a Whole Foods, but that’s neither here nor there.
Now, on to the recipe. Gonna try this tonight- this is a dish I could eat every day, and we are a low carb home, and this is just so good, I’m so excited to try it. Thanks for the recipe!
Thanks dear for the recipe. My bf brought this to work and I insisted on the recipe. We garden and it is paired especially well with red russian greens, which are quite peppery. Yum. I have already had a few guests ask for us to share.
I just made this with gluten-free soy sauce and apples instead on water chestnuts and added raisins instead of green onions, only because my MIL needs gluten free and dislikes water chestnuts annnnd I didn’t have green onions so I modified and it was delicious! The sweet of the fruit with the spicy of the Sriracha is a nice contrast.
These were a treat! My husband and two year old couldn’t get enough. I ended up using ground turkey since that’s what I had in the house. I also added a 1/2 lb of chopped shrimp! The turkey was a bit dry so I added some coconut oil. I’ll use chicken next time.
Also reading through the comments here, it’s hilarious how people get so fussy on a recipe post. I mean come on. The author is just sharing something enjoyable from her experience.
Thanks for the yummy low carb post!
This was perfection! Slam dunk once again!
Terrific recipe! Thanks so much! I was missing these after having to give up PF Changs- I read their nutrition sheet.
The understated crunch from the water chestnuts is spot on.
Making this again this week.
I have made this recipe twice now and it is delicious! And for anyone on Weight Watchers, it’s only 7 points a serving!
I made these for lunch today. Ah-mazing!!! I didn’t have Sirarcha sauce but crushed red pepper flakes worked. Thank you for sharing.
I will make this as an appetizer for a party tomorrow. I think the guests will love it. 🙂
I made these for the second time this afternoon, adding 8 oz of chopped up baby Bella’s. Just like last time, I made my own hoisin sauce and ponzu sauce(for topping) from scratch because I couldn’t find one in the store that wasn’t full of undesirable ingredients. Every hoisin sauce I’ve found had some msg or other garbage in it. Does anyone know of an organic hoisin or ponzu sauce? This is my new favorite recipe! Thank you for sharing. I’ve been sharing it with everyone I know!
Im gluten and dairy free and my bf is the pickiest eater and hates vegetables. Of course he’s never had lettuce wraps and was determined to hate this. We both LOVED it – it was so good and filling! Im making it for the second time this week.
Made these tonight with ground turkey (couldn’t find chicken) and they were great:) Went together fairly quickly. Our store didn’t have butter lettuce, so I subbed green leaf lettuce, cut in half, and they went together fine. Can’t stop eating them!
I discovered this recipe about two weeks ago after taking my roommate to P.F. Chang’s. He fell in love with the food there so I decided to see if I could replicate it. Not only did this recipe replicate the Chicken lettuce wraps at P.F. Chang’s, it exceeded them in flavor! I have made this recipe six times since I found it!! Once for my neighbor’s block party, three times for myself ( I just couldn’t help it!), and twice for my teenagers as a weekend snack. I’m looking forward to exploring the rest of this site. Truly a great find!!
Your site in the recent months has become a site I visit on a daily basis. Your recipes are awesome and I made this one last night and my husband and I are huge fans of PF Changs. This recipe was dead on, we greatly enjoyed it last night and there were no leftovers!! =) Thank you for making this website! It definitely helps all of us who are searching for new and healthy options to throw in the mix!
I wasn’t sure if you were “just” a great food photographer or if the food was as good as it looks. Now I know! I made the PF Chang lettuce wraps last night and they were loved by all…, even a picky teenager! It was as easy as you said and the flavor was terrific. I used ground white meat turkey because that is what I had, so no fat at all, still awesome:)). Looking forward to trying more of your beautiful dishes.
Hey! I have made this recipe already twice this week! once for the family I cook/clean for and also for my own family it was so good! This will definitely be a staple in our kitchen, now! Thanks for sharing 🙂
These look great, I love the PF Changs version, but I have always wondered WHY the restaurant version has SO much fat? This recipe doesn’t look like a lot of fat, and i used to think of the PF lettuce wraps there as guilt free, not after I learned the calorie/fat content of the original. I am going to try the recipe, possibly cut down the hoisin type sauce tho….
I get a LOT of recipes from here and there online, and I’ve never posted a comment before about any of them, but in this case, I felt I just HAD to. This recipe is AMAZING! SO, so easy, quick, and delicious! Even my uber picky husband liked it! Well, he wouldn’t eat it as a lettuce wrap, but he ate the meat mixture over some rice. And he liked it! I took the leftovers to work for lunch the next day, and it was just as good re-heated. Thank you so much for your recipe. I’ve shared it with others too!
Thank you so much for this. I made it at home and my partner could not believe it. I am planning on making it at work for our Halloween potluck!
Just made these for lunch! They were quick, easy, delicious and GONE in the blink of an eye. Definitely going to be added as a regular in my house. Thank you so much for this!
I think Pete is referring to the junk food mentality we have over here. Probably relates to our obseity levels.
I never write review on recipes…but this is the best meal I’ve tried recently, and so fast and easy. THANK YOU for making this copycat recipe. It is awesome!
Hey there,
So I made your chicken lettuce wraps the other night and it was AMAZING! The recipe is exactly the same if not better and so much more healthier. I used 2 pounds of ground chicken instead of the one pound and it actually was more than enough; my boyfriend was even able to take some extra for lunch! Just FYI, because I am in Arizona and we don’t get a lot of fresh produce here and the Asian markets here are somewhat bleak, I went to our local grocery store that had ginger paste which is a complete miracle for me. I was able to add that into the recipe as well as extra garlic which made the dish phenomenal! So, if any of you guys are in a situation like I am, definitely look for the ginger paste in the produce aisle! Will be making this recipe again tonight: one with beef as an experiment and another with chicken for a company potluck! Thank you again for sharing this wonderful treat with us 🙂
Looking for lettuce wraps for a kick off appetizer for our supper club. Well, loving PF Changs, I jumped at this one. Outstanding.
I doubled recipe and had enough for 24 people. This was one of several appetizers before the main meal. Not a scrap of anything left over.
Will repeat and i intend to try using some diced beef tenderloin.
I think it too will be a hit.
Thanks
OMG…. This was so AWESOME!!! Even my picky Hubby & Son Loved it. Has anyone ever tried putting this over rice?
I made these last night and they were wonderful! My daughter, who usually turns her nose up at anything chicken, LOVED them! The bowl was licked clean. Will be doubling the recipe next time. So good!
WOW!!! I usually buy a family pack of chicken breast and usually cook two different dishes.Today I was going to make the lettuce wraps and my second dish was going to be mole( a Mexican dish). After tasting the lettuce wraps I was so pleasantly surprised this dish is going on top of my list. It has an unuasually satisfying twist on my palate I didn’t need to make the mole tonight.Almost like mole but from all the way across the world.I am speechless.Back to eating now!
This is a GREAT recipe — it’s super easy, and the husband loves it and requests it regularly. Thanks for posting!
This is my daughters favorite dish of all! I had no idea how to make it at home until I found this recipe. Thanks so much, I will definitely try it at home.
At Chungah: Do you have the P.F. Changs dipping sauce recipe to go along with the P.F. Changs lettuce wraps recipe?
I actually do not. But these lettuce wraps have so much flavor, a dipping sauce is not even needed!
The dipping sauce at pf changs is a just ponzu sauce. They mix in the hot mustard and chili paste. Some places use a plum sauce. I made my own ponzu sauce from scratch with soy sauce, orange juice, rice wine, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes. Tastes almost exactly the same with out all the mystery ingredients. Hoisin sauce is very easy to make from scratch too. Peanut butter, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, sirachi, and garlic blended together.
I made these today and they were delicious!!! Even my husband who is picky loved them. thank you for this recipe!!!
Another fabulous receipe by you! These were amazing! The lettuce wraps at PF Changs are my favorite but unfortunately I have moved to a very small town and closest PF Changs is 1.5 hours away not convenient so these are perfect! My store didn’t have ground chicken so I got out the food processor and made my own! These will for sure added to our dinner rotation! Thank you!
Awesome dish! We loved it very much. Decided to sub the chicken with ground turkey, turned out great. Thank you!
I made these tonight and they were fantastic! I’m loving your recipes! I’ve been on a roll with making great meals! Thank you.
Really yummy. The first time I made the dish it had a very strong ginger flavor, and I like ginger. So in round 2, I used 1/2 the amount and I preferred the result.

I made these tonight, and they were a huge hit with everyone in my family. That NEVER happens!
Everyone in my family (picky eaters from 3 to 40) loved these! Don’t plan on having any leftovers!
This is your first recipe of your millions that I have pinned, that I finally made tonight. My family loved it and said it was better than the restaurant. Much less sodium too! I never had a water Chestnut before and the one I bought I didn’t realize had to be sliced but it still was really good and gave it that nice crunch. I can’t wait to try your other recipes. Please keep making more. Ooo and if you could do some indian ones that would be amazing.
I just made this for dinner. AMAZING!! I was a little scared of the Siracha as I do NOT like hot food, but if just gives it a little flavor and minimal to no heat. My husband loved it, too. So easy and super fast. We were eating within 20 minutes of me walking in the door from work. Will be making this again soon. Thank you for sharing!
I made this tonight and it was fantastic. Didn’t have ground chicken so I subbed ground turkey and added some fresh cremini mushrooms. Can’t say enough good things about the rich flavor. Outstanding dish!
Made these tonight and they were delicious! Your photos of the wraps looked similar to one of my favorite dishes at a local tapas restaurant, so naturally I had to try them. They were even tastier and the whole batch was cheaper than the $15 dish from the restaurant! Awesome recipe!(:
I have been craving lettuce wraps and was a little nervous to make these because I was worried my husband wouldn’t like them (he is not a “leaf eater”) HE LOVED IT!!! HE said it’s now one of his favorite dishes I have made. I used romaine lettuce leaves because I had it on hand and it was delish!!! Served with a healthier version of fried rice. Kids even loved it!!
Phenomenal recipe!!! Thank you! My family plowed through it! Keep them coming!
Silly question, would it taste good if I use ground beef instead of chicken?
You can certainly substitute ground beef but I cannot speak for how much this will change the overall taste/texture of the dish.
I tried making these yesterday and they were delicious! Being Indian, I found that adding a little sriracha to the lettuce before adding the chicken was highly suitable to my palate 🙂
These look Amazing and soo simple! What kind of sauce would you recommend to top these off? I love the 3 sauces PF Chang’s serve with theirs…. maybe a peanut sauce but what about a spicy sauce? Thanks in advance!
These wraps have so much flavor, a dipping sauce is not even needed!
I made these tonight, hoping my purchase of hoisin and sriracha wasn’t for naught. These were fantastic. I can’t speak for the similarities to P.F. Chang’s but I’m making these again soon. Even my 2 year old, who’s going through chemo treatments, enjoyed his “lettuce tacos” and he eats nothing!
I did use just 1/2 an onion and doubled the sriracha
Hi Jamie….I just read your post and pray your little guy is doing well. Old post but caught my eye and heart.
OMG! Absolutely amazing! I just made a few tiny changes. I only used about 1/4 of a large onion. I thought one onion would be too much with the green onion also in there. I also didn’t have any Sriracha in the house. So, I substituted some Roasted Red Chili paste that I had (about 3/4 tsp). Then, my last little touch was to add in some thin carrot strips at the the same time I was adding the green onion and the water chestnuts. The carrots added color & crunch & tasted delicious with all of the sauce ingredients. My husband gobbled everything up. No leftovers tonight!!!
I was craving the Pei Weu lettuce wraps, but had no $ in the budget for take out. I’m so glad I found your recipe! These were delicious, and we’ll never have to do take out for lettuce wraps again.
I agree about the Pei Wei version of these – whenever I have to fly through Las Vegas, I make a point of getting an order of this to go – this saves me from having to cook or forage for someplace to eat once I finally get to me destination. Haven’t confirmed it, but I’m under the impression that PF Chang’s and Pei Wei share a corporate parent somehow…
In any case, I’m thrilled to be able to have a homemade version of this dish, instead of waiting for my next pass through an airport (the only place I ever seem to see a Pei Wei, tbh)!
I made this for the family tonight and it was a huge hit. My husband ate 10 of them and it still fed a family of four with a couple left for lunch. A great recipe to stretch a dollar and it tastes amazing. I’ve never been to PF Changs and don’t think I need to now!
I have tried several lettuce wrap copycat recipes and we didn’t like any of them. This is my second time making these for my family. We love them and look forward to trying your other takeout recipes.
Easy, quick meal loved by even my youngest, pickiest eater. Yummy!!!!!!!
Made these for dinner and they were banging! Definitely tasted like PF Changs if not better 🙂 It was easy to make too-will make again.
I made these last night for a group of girlfriends and it was a hit! It’s such a fun dish to entertain with. I wouldn’t change a thing to it. I served it with a side of stir-fried vegetables with just sesame oil and soy sauce. So simple and easy! I think they were even better than PF Chang’s original chicken lettuce wraps. Thanks for posting the recipe! Loved it!
I cook a lot and we rarely eat out. That being said…I NEVER comment about any recipe! After my hubby and I finished dinner tonight I knew that I had to! I made a double recipe and we are eating it again tomorrow and I HATE leftovers! I did adjust a few things.
1. I cooked my meat separate
2. I used peanut oil and olive oil
3. I let it all sit in the oven on warm while the hubby and I took the family on a run….(allowed the flavors to come together and cook down)
Haven’t had PF Chang’s in years. All that I know is that this was super easy and very fast! This will be going in our families rotation! So glad that I stumbled upon this site.
I never comment on recipes but had to come in to say this is an amazing and easy recipe and tasted even better than PF Chang’s. It would be so easy to double or triple it and I made a side of rice that we ate it with for leftovers. Super inexpensive and tasted just as good reheated. Love it!
I was curious, have you tried it with tofu? I love the tofu version PF Chang’s makes and would love to experiment. Just thought I’d ask before I tried it. I’m a vegetarian so I don’t know what the chicken tastes like. But I’m hoping similar.
Unfortunately, I have not tried this with tofu.
Just finished dinner of these awesome wraps. Used ground chuck, because it’s what I had. They were delicious. I make my own hoisin and it was great in this dish! Thanks for your hard work!
How do you make your Hoisan sauce? I would love some recipes on that as it was hard to find any type of Hoisan where we live.
Here’s an easy hoisin recipe that I use. I blend it up afterwards otherwise it’s too thin. http://www.grouprecipes.com/47010/homemade-hoisin-sauce.html
I made these tonight and they were a hit! Even my 1 year old daughter liked them! I’m making them again on Saturday for a potluck. Thank you!!
Made these. Easy Peasy. Went to get the lettuce and it was gone-already eaten so I made some rice added diced veggies and had a wonderful flavorful rice dish. Got rave reviews will be making again. Thanks for sharing.
I like these but they are so messy, especially at parties. What about making it (with lettuce) inside rice paper to make more like summer rolls? What do you think? Also, can you just buy chicken breast raw and chop finely in food processor? Anyone tried that?
They sound amazing as summer rolls! And yes, you can certainly buy chicken breast and use a food processor to grind them.
Have made before and loved them. What do you think about substituting diced shrimp for the ground chicken? I would like to serve the wraps for a party but have several guests who won’t eat poultry, beef or pork.
Yes, diced shrimp would work amazingly well! You may have to adjust cooking time as needed though.
Made this for dinner tonight with friends. We all loved it! I made a double batch and added beans sprouts and we all gobbled it down. I might just have enough leftover for lunch.
Hi I just tried these last night and WOWZA! They were awesome. Thank you and I can’t wait to try out your others!
Wow, I just stumbled across your site after searching for a lettuce wrap recipe – I am so excited to try everything on here!!! It all looks so fresh and appetizing, not to mention time-conscious. Thank you so much for sharing these recipes and your cooking process. 🙂
Had to come back and tell you how stunningly delicious these were. I made them tonight after having tried several other recipes for the same thing — none of them came close to this recipe. My five year old devoured them…she who will not eat lettuce. This is going into the weekly rotation for sure!!
These were amazing…. Even better then PF Changs. Thanks for sharing.
We made these tonight and they were delicious! I did omit the whole onion as my husband is not a fan. He decided the only thing missing was the white crunchy noodles. I’ll have to find those for the next time. Thank you for the great recipe!
You can buy rice cellophane noodles at the store and dry them in a little oil until they puff to make the crunchy noodles.
Had a bunch of leftover Romaine lettuce from another meal and I made these. Absolutely delicious. I used 1 tsp dried ginger because I had it on hand already although I’m sure fresh would have been better.
Hello! I found this recipe on Pinterest and just made it this evening for dinner and it was great! Easy to make and very tasty! I served it with Calrose (sticky) rice. The only issue my husband and I had was the leaves from head of butter lettuce we used seemed too small and flimsy. Maybe we just used the wrong brand? Regardless, it was still great, thanks for putting it out there on the inter webs! <3
I’m so glad you had a chance to give this a try! As for the butter lettuce, feel free to use your favorite kind of greens. I prefer butter lettuce but it’s really based on personal preference.
So glad you enjoyed the recipe! I swear I could eat the whole batch myself!
This was so delicious. I made double to have some leftover meat and we may have eaten most of it in one setting! Thanks so much for the recipe we will be using it a bunch.
Just made this without the chilli sauce and it was delicious. For anyone else shopping in aus i found woolworths had everything only rice wine vinegar was labelled “Chinese cooking wine” and found in the Asian food aisle (exact same ingredients just a different name). Oh and I like mincing chicken at home instead of buying mince chicken so you know it’s not fatty 🙂
I have NEVER had the desire to post a comment on someone’s recipe but I had to come back for this one. This was AMAZING. The idea of using ground chicken instead of cooking chicken then adding it to a food processor was genius. The flavor is amazing and it was entirely too simple to make. Thank you so much for sharing. These wraps were DAMN DELICIOUS!!
Made these last night and my husband devoured them. He wants me to make it again tonight. Easy and delicious.
I’ve tried to find ground chicken and cannot, do you think ground turkey would be ok?
Yes, ground turkey should work just fine.
A whole onion seems like a lot.????
Bebe, if a whole onion seems like a lot for your taste preferences, you can certainly reduce the amount to your liking.
Depends on the size of the onion. My gf and I both love onion so I used a whole yellow onion and it was perfect for us. The onion also softens and caramelizes, taking on a sweeter taste, the longer you cook it.
So glad to see that–I couldn’t find ground chicken either, so I will probably try it with turkey. So excited! I love lettuce wraps!
Found this recipe on Pinterest. Tried it tonight. Not hard to make and delicious! Thank you for sharing. 🙂

You don’t lie! These were better than PF Changs, and I love their lettuce wraps!
I made these two nights in a row. They are excellent, I used diced chicken in mine because I couldn’t find ground. I only added a little bit of ginger because I am not a fan, it turned out great. I was skeptical that these wouldn’t be as good as PF Changs or even better, but they were so much better. They tasted fresher and they probably had about 1/3 the sodium, I used low sodium soy sauce. Great recipe that I will be making every week.
Can you make this ahead of time and reheat for a party? Or even serve it room temp?
Reheating should be fine.
How would you reheat it? Is microwave ok?
Yes, microwave or stovetop should be just fine.
These are fabulous!
Pingback: Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps | Two Forks One Love
This is a really yummy and simple recipe. I made a triple recipe and
froze two portions in separate baggies for summer time house guests.
So easy to pull a baggie out of the freezer and have a light something
at the end of the day of sight seeing and a big lunch out somewhere.
Think my company is gonna like it.
I just made these for my family tonight and they were absolutely delicious! Even better than P.F. Changs!
Very good! One detail, isn’t there maifun noodles or something similar in the pfchangs wraps? It seemed like that was the only thing missing. Thanks for the recipe!
I’m not entirely sure if there are noodles in the original but if there is, you can definitely add them in. I may just try that myself – it sounds amazing!
The noodles in the original – just buy packaged noodles and fry them in bunches for a few seconds to puff them up. They’re one of my favorite parts of the wraps!
Hi Amanda…Hope you get this after almost 4 yrs. Can you tell me just how you incorporated the noodles into the dish? Did you cook the noodles until crisp, crush, and then add them to the meat before, after cooking. I’ve never tried this and would appreciate your response. Thank you
Oh yeah, by the way …..I minced up some mushrooms and tossed them in. Just to sneak in some veggies!
I made these for dinner tonight, they were a hit with the entire family! My picky teenager even went back for seconds…. that never happens!! Thanks for the crowd pleasing recipe, it’s a keeper 🙂
ive not made your recipe yet, but i had an idea.
imagine “orange chicken” coating on the chicken in your recipe. i think an delightful crunch could make the dish really POP!
What a great idea! I may have to try this variation as well as the ground chicken. Thanks!
I’ve tried several copycat versions of P.F. Chang’s Lettuce Wraps, and even though they have turned out edible, I’m not overly impressed, and find myself looking for yet another recipe. Then I came across this page, and when I saw your photo, I remember seeing several of your other recipes. Ah ha! I’ll definitely bookmark you this time so as not to lose you.
I’ll be trying your version soon. May I ask, do you have a preference with regard to Hoisin sauce? The brand I chose for my most recent dish was very sweet, and I wish I had not added as much as the recipe required.
Many thanks for sharing!
I actually do not have a preference. But if your brand of hoisin sauce is too sweet, you can always adjust the amount you see fit for your taste preferences.
I have had lettuce wraps and they are wonderful. Guilt free. Yay. Plus they are delicious. I appreciate your recipe VERY much. Thank you.
Excellent—eating now!
This may be a silly question but, can you buy ground chicken at any grocery store? Or do you use a food processor? Thanks!
It’s not a silly question at all! Ground chicken should be available at most grocery stores. If not, you can certainly use the food processor method!
I’ll bet you could substitute the following:
fresh ground pork for the chicken,
any leftover pork (e.g. from a roast) for the chicken
or add bean sprouts or julienned carrots or squash for variety.
Hi,
Love your recipes!! I’ve never made these but am wondering if you could used a diced rotisserie chicken, or even dice up chicken very small and saute from there. I just didn’t know if the ground up chicken would be too mushy. I remember from previously eating chicken lettuce wraps that it was more of a very small diced chicken. Just curious….my memory might be wrong. I cannot wait to try this though. Thanks so much for sharing!
It is best to use ground chicken but feel free to use diced chicken breast to suit your taste/texture preferences.
Yeah, you can totally dice up your raw chicken and sauté it. Found this out by accident tonight when I spaced at the grocery store and bought chicken breast instead of ground chicken. I made this once before and it was amazing. Not to be deterred, I spent the extra time dicing up the chicken very small and sautéed it first and it turned out just wonderful. Took a lot longer than I had anticipated but the final result was worth it. Next time I’ll pick up the ground chicken though promise. We love this recipe! Even my toddler does, he just won’t eat the water chestnuts yet.
These look amazing! Thanks so much for sharing the recipe 😀 Bet it tastes heavenly with sweet chilli sauce (I’m addicted to that stuff!)
I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend 🙂 x
Looks so yummy! Definitely want to try it out! 🙂
http://youtube.com/addalittlefood
This will be dinner tomorrow night! I love when you “recreate” recipes like this! I dont’ have a PF Chang where I live, so this is perfect for me!!!! Thanks! I just discovered you about six weeks ago and now follow you! Great stuff!!!
just made these – Yum Yum – thank bunches. I make my own hoisin sauce from another blog. Wouldn’t change a thing. Love these type of recipes for the weekend so we just munch so easy.
May I ask what blog you got your hoisin sauce from? I’d love to try making some myself! 🙂 thanks a bunch!
May I too ask for your homemade hoisin sauce? Thank you.
A million times better, huh? PF Changs Lettuce Wraps are pretty much the best thing ever, so I can’t wait to try this recipe.
I could live on these wraps, they look fab!
These look fantastic!! I love a good copycat recipe 🙂 These look like they’d be a great lunch to pack to take to work, too!
Girl these look bomb! I love PF Changs too, but yours look so much fresher! Pinning!
Wow, this is my go to dish at PF Changs!!! Thank you for making it possible to create at home!!!!
Now I know what I am making for dinner tonight! Pinned 🙂
I love these wraps at PF Chang’s so I can’t wait to try out your recipe!
Love these wraps. Thank you.
I’m so making these! Love!
I could so go for one of these, even for breakfast! They look delicious. 🙂 Have a great weekend!
I agree! Breakfast burrito with eggs & lentils?
I find it so curious that American pins on Pinterest and on your site often hold, as their highest accolade, that food tastes like shop bought food. Whereas here in the UK we would consider take away or chain food as inferior, and home cooked is the ultimate accolade – in other words NOT tasting like mass produced, processed food. Take aways are usually considered here to be full of junk, and almost certainly nothing like the ethnic food it claims to reflect. I don’t mean to criticise, but this cultural divide has just become so noticeable, it is just interesting isn’t it?
Actually, Pete, here in the United States, we love recreating take-out dishes and popular restaurant items because we can control the ingredients, make them less fattening, save on money, and have them taste completely homemade. That’s the beauty of copycat recipes!
I just made this for dinner and it was outstanding. Thank you so much for sharing. I will be making more of this and many of the other recipes you have posted.
A lot of people fail to realize that all restaurant food / chain food / mass produced food ideas all started at home; not the other way around. It’s that family recipe or grandma’s special way of making a dish that gets shared with the public. However, people wont talk about that grandmother who taught the family the recipe, they are more likely to know and remember the restaurant that made it taste so good. Then the people make their own variation at home. Thus the restaurant becomes the reference point. ” spinach dip sauce like the one at Applebees restaurant” now every one can relate cause they all ate there at some point;0).
This is so silly! Pete, don’t look for issues where there isn’t any. This recipe looks amazing and if your not interested in it then you move on. This reciept is home made and a better version of a popular dish. Nothing wrong with making something good, better! C
He was just making a comment…he wasn’t criticizing at all. It was just “food for thought” hehe I put spaces between my sentences but it’s now showing them sorry.
NOT showing them.
That was my reaction, as well, Cheryl. Just a comment. However, I did find Chung-Ah and Mel’s comments well written. This is a great website and I love reading the comments (as well as the recipes).
Carrie, I agree with Cheryl. Pete was just making a point ~ and I, totally, agree with him. 🙂 Homemade is always better. Unfortunately, restaurant food often tastes really good but is full of unhealthy things, which is why we have to make copycat versions of it ~ so we can get back to the wonderful homemade food that he’s speaking of. Which is why I love this site so very much!
As an American living in the UK (16 plus years) I would say we do cook more at home here in the UK however, PF Changs is a chain restaurant not fast food, with high standards. It is not a typical take away like I’ve experienced in the UK. It’s much much better.
Nice explanation Chung-Ah! Pete did not understand this recipe. Actually this recipe took away alot of the junk and made it homemade. You can adjust sodium and add more vegetables. This is fabulous.
Never tried a lettuce wrap before… This one sounds good and healthy,so I’m going to try it!!!!! P.S. I love our ” copy cat” culture and lets be honest no one goes to England for the food! LOL…. Its one of the few places in Europe which the world agrees has the worst food.
I have lived in London for 15 glorious years until recently and the “WORSE Food in the world” has been a thing of the past for a very long time. You can now eat THE BEST of the world from any ethnic cuisine in this FANTASTIC City !!!
True, you can eat wonderful food in London, for a very high price. And in the smaller towns and villages you might still run into some purely awful food. I was served some green paste at a pub in Loughborough once that was called “lasagna”.
I second that motion, Laurel, although there is something charming (albeit not gourmet or particularly impressive) about getting cornish pasties or fish and chips from a little country shop. The best (or at least consistently praiseworthy) food still comes from Italy! 🙂
You are in the minority on this. I have never, until you, heard anyone say positive things about good dishes from England. Another reason why we left and came to America … The people couldn’t stand your food. Soon after that, as you know, we kicked your rears back across the pond. You want to be an elitist? Then I’ll join you … I don’t have to sit and wonder what it’s like to be a mediocre country. I live in one that has all the diversification I need. One that could easily whip your rear once again. Welcome to the USA j@ck@ss.
Geez, calm down dude! I don’t think Carmen was trying to be elitest. She was just saying that you can get a lot of different types of food in London and it doesn’t suck. I don’t that calls for running down the entire country.
Wow Bill did your mother raise you to be this rude?
WELL BILL,
I went to England and found the food amazing. The food in the US is just like any food in North America.
And, by the way, you never kicked anyone’s ass lol. Read the real history books. I don’t live in the UK either, just stating a fact. Now this is a cooking site no a political site. Try to catch up.
In my opinion, your obnoxious post exposes you as the epitome of “The Ugly American”. Your hostile and disparaging attitude is exactly what most Americans are trying to avoid. We need to repair and improve our image globally, not further damage it. Most of us don’t want the U.S. to be viewed internationally as a people who have a superior, judgmental and aggressive attitude toward people outside the U.S..
And Bill perfectly demonstrates what it’s like to live next door to the US. Can you imagine this as your neighbour?
The only reason the US has their independence is because France saved your ass Bill, without France you’d still be part of the Commonwealth. I’ve heard it said that the American education system is lacking but that’s certainly the case at least for Bill if he doesn’t know his own history. Don’t worry Bill, you have messed up your own country well enough that no one including England or the Commonwealth would want you back anyways.
Not to elevate the hostilities. But, I do agree with Carmen. London is one of our favorite cities in the world. The food in the US as well as any country can be hit or miss. But London is offering much to satisfy any pallet. BTW I made this dish and it came out as good as any I have had in any Asian restaurant. Yummy
Haha!!! Amen!
Everything about the UK is just so superior to anything we loud, obnoxious American choose to do, isn’t it Pete? Your comment was (expectedly) snobbish and made no sense, really.
Way to get your a** kicked on pintrest PETE!
This is all really great.. Lettuce wraps with a side of ‘merica
Pete, I think the reason we love the copy cat recipes is, like someone said before about controlling the ingredients, and not just that, but because we haven’t had some “home made” dishes that taste as awesome as some of the restaurants have. Just because something is home made or authentic doesn’t mean it’s so much better than a restaurant’s version. I do understand that a lot of things home made are delicious, but i’ve had some authentic mexican dishes that honestly just don’t compare and are SO BLAND compared to the things i’ve had at a restaurant.
I am from the UK but now live in the States. PF Chang’s is a restaurant chain, of fairly decent quality and certainly not a fast food restaurant. The quality of food in the USA ranges from tasteless junk (the typical high street fast food companies such as McDonalds, KFC to very high end food which would rival the very best restaurants in the world). Much the same as you get in the UK. The big difference of course is price. In the UK, most food is expensive as for the most part it has to be imported. In the USA the variety of food is astounding but that is thanks to the diverse climates. It is much , much cheaper to eat out with your family. We do it at least once or twice a week. As others have pointed out, it is nice to make the food at home, suing whole organic ingredients and tweaking the recipes for your own taste.
The British are hardly known for their amazing cuisine.
Wow! rude… obviously you’ve never been to england.
I’ve been to England, and the food WAS that bad!
Worst food I’ve ever had in fact, I’ve been all around the world and it was shocking how bad and expensive the food is.
Not an American btw, but they do have fantastic food 🙂
Than you’ve never been to Holland if you truly think British food is the worst lol.
Omg!!! Just finished cooking this recipe and it is EVERYTHING.
I enjoyed England’s food (and Scotland’s)! Meat pies FTW!!!
Pete – We like the taste of restaurant food, but don’t want all of the questionable ingredients like MSG and hydrogenated oils. So, in order to eat delicious food, but avoid the contaminants we look for copycat recipes online. Get it?
Pete I do think you mean to offend. People never say this pompous words unless they have something critical to say. Not constructive, but critical. Could it be that in the UK, that your traditional recipes are bland and tasteless … Because that’s all I’ve ever heard about food from your region. Here’s an idea, why don’t you come down off your high horse because the thin air up there is already too much for that tiny thoughtless brain of yours. If this offends you, well guess what? No one cares. Go back to eating some delicious …. Wait never mind, you wouldn’t know delicious if it bit you on your rear.
Bill, did a British woman (or man) break you heart? Why so angry? Maybe you need to eat a lettuce wrap and have a nice cup of tea. Or, since you love America so much, have some maize… oh, didn’t you know? Most of the delicious food you eat here in the US came from some other country too.
Is it just me or are Americans not known to have a great cuisine either..? I’m sure there are lots of nice places to eat in the USA as there are in England, to say that a whole countries food is bland and tasteless is rude and ignorant. Talking of high horse Bill…
Pete, I think takeout food is the same everywhere (greasy, salty, definitely not “culturally” correct). But “convenient” is always something busy working people aspire for – so if we can make delicious, healthy food that is just as convenient as take out, why not? I think that’s something we can agree on from both sides of the pond 🙂
Pete, Ol’ Chap,
If you are going to “criticise” the folks who bailed you out of WW II, please use a spellcheck. You speak as if you are educated on health, but it seems you and your countrymen have trouble lofting a dentist, or even a toothbrush for that matter. Stick to your side of the pond & enjoy your fish n chips.
Sincerely,
Greg
Greg,
I’m not English but I live in the UK. I also lived in the US for a while.
1st of all, stop trying to make it as if the US were the only saviours in WWII. It was a joint effort. Do some reading that is not completely biased first.
2nd of all, you should also get a bit of education in terms of health and dental health in the UK nowadays, your stereotypes are completely wrong. Just because in the UK (and pretty much the rest of the world) we don’t get fake teeth (ie veneers) it doesn’t mean we have bad teeth/oral hygiene.
Last, but not least, I wonder how much you’ve travelled outside of the US. The UK has a wide range of multicultural exposure and its food has reflected on it.
That was funny!
Let’s put this English vs. US thing to bed. Indian is the national food of the UK replacing mushy peas, spotted dick and haggis.
It took you buggering long enough to join the war to start with Greg. You wouldn’t even join until you yourselves were attacked. The world was doing a fine job without you and we were winning the war without your help the only thing that was accomplished by the Americans joining WWII was that it ended perhaps slightly sooner. Yet another American who doesn’t know his history.
These are healthy and delicious, and for arguments sake, P.F. Changs isn’t fast food. It’s a decent, although not authentic, restaurant here.
Pete there are also other reasons why someone would want to make a restaurant dish. I am disabled and therefore cannot drive. Ever. If I have a craving for something like a chik fil a sandwich, and my husband is at work, I make myself one from a recipe on pinterest, right down to the bun. Just like i did two days ago. It makes me feel less stranded to be able to do that.
Before you attack an entire country for something so petty, you might want to open your small mind and consider all of the possible reasons why someone might want to pin a recipe on pinterest. Also, my grandmother taught me to cook great southern soul food. Im a wonderful cook. It doesn’t make me less of a cook or a person if I want a chik fil a sandwich or a big mac occasionally.
Pete just because a food recepie comes from a chain/fast food/Big Corp/Ohnoes my crumpets/ establishment doesn’t mean you need to poop all over it. You probably never tasted it.
But hey, it’s fun to just poop all over something that you’re ignorant about.
Pete, I think this is because we Americans rarely have enough time at home to learn to cook properly.
I’ve lived in both the US and UK, and I will have to say the biggest difference for me is that take-away food in the UK is usually absolute crap and therefore no one would want to re-create it. Even the most popular chains have very little to offer as far as taste. The US, though often laden with chemicals, injects far more flavor, which is why every restaurant that I tried in the US seemed to have a signature dish that people came back for. It doesn’t surprise me that people try to mimic recipes of things they like. It’s no different than one of the few popular London based chains, Wahaca, putting out a recipe/cook book in the UK…everyone wanted to try and recreate the tacos. Don’t be pompous…the UK is the last place to criticize food consumption (cough cough everything in a pie shell).
Really? The English food that I have tried, on several occasions, was horrible! The English people should expand their search for better food. A good start could be a good restaurant! You could always tweak a recipe to make it more healthy, or to better suit your taste buds. In the end, you can be proud of it too!
Congrats on starting a nationalistic flame war with this “innocent” observation.
I know I’m about a year late with this comment, but oh well:
Pete, I am originally from the States but now live in the UK. The standards for restaurant food are much, much higher in the States. I would certainly consider British take-away and restaurant food to be inferior to homemade meals, but there are so many restaurants in the States (note: not all) that do absolutely incredible food that you often only wish you could make at home. I can’t think of one restaurant meal I’ve had in the UK that I found so amazing and unique that I would be dying to replicate it at home, but there have certainly been restaurant dishes I’ve had in the States that I’ve tried long and hard to remake at home.
I think that’s probably the difference here.
Well Hannah, I must say i have had the opposite experience, I have eaten in many restaurants in both the UK and the USA, and frankly I found there to be little difference. I think that it is possible to eat lovely food in restaurants in the U.K. And the USA, but the majority of restaurants in these countries are serving something which is at best mediocre and at worst inedible . Fast food and chain restaurants tend to be the worst offenders, especially in touristy locations.
Perhaps there is also an element of national pride at stake here as well, judging by some of the comments. Thus far I would say that France, Italy and China offer the best food, I suspect because these nations pay more attention to what they eat than most. My interest in this recipe is because I fist ate it in a restaurant in China. I am planning to sample the delights of Japan soon I am hopeful that new taste experiences await me there.
What you don’t understand, because you probably haven’t experienced it, is that in the US many of the best chain restaurants use almost entirely fresh, locally produced ingredients. The US restaurant market is extremely competitive in terms of quality and innovation…not my experience while living in the UK and certainly not in Portugal where the most often served menu items are made with salt cod, now, imported from Norway, although originally fished in local waters.
Pete, I have noticed that too! “It tastes just like store-bought” seems to be a huge compliment. That’s actually the OPPOSITE of what I’m going for when I make it at home! 😉
I agree, the restaurant food in the UK is aweful. I figured even an American cgain wouldnt be able to screw up a cheeseburger…but it was bad too.
PF Changs is known for healthy, fresh, Chinese California fusion food. Their foid is not greasy, over vooked or mysterious like most other Chinese food restaurants are. I could own one I would so I could eat there any time I wanted.
My family spent 3 weeks last summer on vacation, visiting several areas of England. I understand why home cooks don’t replicate dishes from your restaurants. Most unmemorable.
@ Pete: Major way to piss people off, posting offensive “Anti-American” sentiment and being a Brit who “technically is a visitor in OUR country” (ya BITCH!)
I find it curious that in a passive-aggressive stance, you ignited some pretty inflammatory “issues” and suggest that you suck on these facts:
British cuisine is the specific set of cooking traditions and practices associated with the United Kingdom. British cuisine has been described as “unfussy dishes made with quality local ingredients, matched with simple sauces to accentuate flavour, rather than disguise it. “However, British cuisine has absorbed the cultural influence of those who have settled in Britain, producing many hybrid dishes, such as the Anglo-Indian chicken tikka masala (Tikka masala is NOT “British Cuisine, it’s East Indian).
Fish and chips, a popular take-away food of the United Kingdom
Celtic agriculture and animal breeding produced a wide variety of foodstuffs for indigenous Celts and Britons. Anglo-Saxon England developed meat and savoury herb stewing techniques before the practice became common in Europe. The Norman conquest introduced exotic spices into England in the Middle Ages. The British Empire facilitated a knowledge of India’s elaborate food tradition of “strong, penetrating spices and herbs”. Food rationing policies, put in place by the British government during wartime periods of the 20th century, are said to have been the stimulus for British cuisine’s poor international reputation. It has been claimed, contrary to popular belief, that people in southern England eat more garlic per head than the people of northern France.
Furthermore, you gobsmacked idiot:
During the World Wars of the 20th century difficulties of food supply were countered by official measures, which included rationing. The problem was worse in WWII, and the Ministry of Food was established to address the problems (see Rationing in the United Kingdom). Due to the economic problems following the war, rationing continued for some years, and in some aspects was more strict than during wartime. Rationing was not fully lifted until almost a decade after war ended in Europe, so that a whole generation was raised without access to many previously common ingredients. These policies, put in place by the British government during wartime periods of the 20th century, are often blamed for the decline of British cuisine in the 20th century.
Just returning from 3 months in the UK? Your food absolutely sucks. Period. Get over it, and if you don’t like how “Americans attempt to copy cat recipes”, go back and learn HOW to cook. Back to the UK that is, you don’t seem to like it very much here.
lmao, your comment just slayed the entire comment section.
@ SK, I’m American, and wanted to “rant and defend our cuisine AND country”.
Pete seems to have forgotten that “they LOST the war” with the American colonies, due
to the fact that their sovereign at the time (George III) was TOO STUPID to even KNOW the whereabouts of the “American colonies”.
He’s even got a page on Wiki about “nutty kings in history”:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mentally_ill_monarchs
i dont know anything about history but THESE LETTUCE WRAPS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Pete, please be quiet. I hardly think that bullying your pompous and arrogant opinion on a lovely recipe blog is wanted or needed. It is so important to be kind, everybody is going through something. More Wag, Less Bark kind of concept! Cherrio chap.
That may be because in the US “fine dining” is a form of entertainment and therefore an area of specialty skills. These skills – to combine flavors in such amazing and creative ways… and to find perfection in the balance of flavors – is not something we all have naturally or have the time to study in depth. Therefore we enjoy learning from those who do this for a living. That isn’t to say we don’t understand that recreating it at home is even better as you can attempt to ensure minimal processing and also personalize it a bit if you like. That is why you have posts like this one to share those recipes so that we CAN make them as a home cooked dish! 🙂 I have to say though, having visited the UK that while it has many lovely aspects as a country it isn’t a country popularly known for amazing cuisine so that may also be part of why there is that difference. Each country has it’s own strengths and weaknesses which give us all our individual culture! 🙂
We find it strange that you all like eating at hotels. For us it’s just the same as any other place and usually twice as expensive. Just differences in all countries.
Sounds like you have crappy take-out food in the UK. That stinks for you. 🙁
You may never see this Pete…but I am a Canadian who has made many recipes from this site and every time I do my family and friends rave about the great food I have made.
Now on the other hand I have a friend from England who lives here and we avoid going to their place so as not to have to partake in a meal. It is the worst most tasteless grey colored slop I have ever seen. The cook took ground beef and water and put it in a crock pot with a couple potatoes and onions ( not sautéed) and let it cook all day. The desert was worse than the main meal. There have been a couple other “homemade true English meals ” we have had and it is so tasteless. Give me restaurant copies any day! Most folks from England I have met will not put lettuce in their mouth so was surprised you commented here. Seeing as you are at this page I hope you made and enjoyed the wraps they are the best.
Pete, Do you prefer your fish and chips homemade or did you eat them out more often? I know there are approximately 8500 fish and chip shop across from UK so I was wondering if it is easier to make them at home or eat them out.
Thanks,,
Sparkie from Alabama
USA
I think that all of your copycat dinners look way better than the originals! They should be taking tips from you! 🙂
Loved the recipe! Made it tonight!
or is it tonite..
Thank you!
Where do I sign up to bash the nerds crying about London food, USA food and WWI?
Oh. My. Goodness! This was delicious! This tastes way better than PF Chang’s! Thanks for the recipe! I had to ground up the chicken in the food processor so I did the same to the onions and and water chesnuts. It made it so quick and easy! I will definitely be making this again!
This recipe is fabulously easy and fresh tasting. I followed your advice and added the onion & diced water chestnuts in with the chicken breast as I was grinding it in my food processor. i used romaine heart leaves instead of Bibb and it was fabulous. I can’t wait to share this recipe with my family.
Tips for Grinding Meat in the Food Processor
Cut all the meat into 1-inch cubes to make it easier to grind.
Freeze the meat in a single layer until stiff on the edges and corners, but still pliable in the middle (20 min or so)
Freeze the food processor blade.
Only fill your food processor half-full when grinding — work in batches if needed.
Do not over-process the meat — aim for finely chopped meat, not paste.
Clean (or at least rinse) your food processor right after using it before any leftover meat has time to dry.
Much less expensive than purchasing it at your local grocers ($1.99/lb VS $3.99/lb)
Thank you for this tip. I am going to try it today for lunch.
Don’t be fooled got food poisoned at PF Chang’s Pasadena Sunday afternoon eating chicken wraps ended up in emergency for 4 hours. Also chicken on other meals were over cooked
Food was salty also others in our family had other stomach issues eating the food.
Very disappointed in the food not to mention cost of emergency room?????????
not sure you understand – this isn’t a PF changs website – put your review on their site 🙂
This is awesome.
Lol!
My car got a flat tire
Haha
Dave…that was hilarious!
Squirrel!!
This is the recipe you make yourself. Sorry to hear about your food poisoning though
Sounds like an idiot you doesn’t get this is a recipe website!
Be nice, must be having a bad day
Clearly having a terrible day! Food poisoning is no joke. I’m sorry that happened to you, Donna. However, when you are feeling up to Chinese food again, you will LOVE these lettuce wraps!
There is no need to call anyone names. This is a recipe site not a rude comment site
ALOHA
Donna,
People often think that is was the last place they ate where they got food poisoning from. Do you realize it usually will take 8-14 hours after eating for you to get food poisoning? Most likely it was your home cooked meal you made your family and not the restaurant you ate at an hour before. Funny how people will always try and blame someone else for their own bad cooking.
Absolutely Glenn. There are times when a food establishment is to blame however it’s generally a mistake the family made at home. Cook temps, Reheating process, cool down methods and so much more factor into it. I’m not fond of the negative publicity restaurants face when false accusations are made.
Sorry, not entirely true. In the case of foods infected with preformed enterotoxins such as Staph Aureus the symptoms can be felt in as little as 30 min! Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea and usually only last a day. Staph is usually found on human skin so don’t forget to wash your hands when handling food cooked or not.
Um….glad you googled Wikipedia but it’s not staph that’s causing your food poisoning unless you’re immunocompromised…when you think of toxins you’re probably trying to explain e. coli and salmonella….and staph is normal skin flora, so “washing” your hands isn’t going to stop you from “getting staph”.
Having said that, washing your hands IS important and ensuring you cook your food to an appropriate temp, cooling in fridge, etc. And all those bacteria can be on vegetables if not properly washed or watered with dirty water. And often it is humans who didn’t wash hands properly going to the bathroom, or their or own foods and salads that sat out forever that cause the food poisoning.
Hi, Glenn. If you could refrain from mansplaining to Donna about her own illness, that’d be cool. And on the note of you being sexist, why would you assume that Donna cooked her last meal? Maybe your assumption has something do with the fact that she is a woman? And furthermore, how do you know that she cooks for her family? Or that she even has a family? God forbid a woman do something with her life other than having a family and cooking for them! Your assumptions are disgusting.
Liza, did you assume Glenn’s gender because of his name? Interesting that you criticize someone for making assumptions…by making assumptions.
Wow. Assume much, Liza? Would you be saying the same thing if you thought Glenn was a woman? It’s your assumptions and agenda that are disgusting! You are the one that’s sexist.
SERIOUSLY??? Come on you both must own stock in that overrated, over expensive CHANGS. what are you a doctor too?? Give me a break.
SO TRUE GLENN… People are STUPID!!
What does this have to do with the recipe? Try it – it’s fabulous!
Donna…Please pay attention to the sites you look up. This is a RECIPE site…not P.f. Chang’s website.
Wow this is fantastic. “Don’t make this at home cause this one time I got food poisoning at the restaurant that inspired this recipe.” I have a feeling Donna is new to the internets.
lol this all started from an accidental post.
Here I was, just looking for a chicken lettuce wrap recipe, and this thread has made my whole damn day. Thank you!!! :)))))))
What does that have anything to do with this recipe?
Donna this was not the forum to revue PF Changs
Can have some of whatever you’re smoking please????
She seems to be more of a drinker.
Donna is NOT PF Changs!!! I hope you told them this?
This comment gave me food poisoning.
PS: I’m sure 3.75 hours spent in the emergency room was spent waiting behind people with actual emergencies. the other .25 hours was the ER tech telling you that you probably have food poisoning and just need to go home and barf it out like a grown human.
NOT DONNA (freaking awesome name choice),
You are hilarious and CORRECT and you just made my day, thanks! Oh, and trying this recipe tonight btw…hope we enjoy it as much as this commentary.
Cheers to all!
Yyyyyyeeeeeeeessssssssss!
Ate Burger King whopper, was pretty good!
It’s 2018 and this is still funny
And STILL causing giggles in 2019!
It’s 2020 and I can’t stop laughing at this thread!!! LMFAO
Oh, this recipe is the best!!!
Omg this is literally the funniest thing ever!!! All I was looking for was a simple recipe but I got so much more lmao
On the real though, this recipe is amazing!!
Had this for dinner and it tasted so good! My husband loved it
I’ve made these also but I ordered course ground chicken from my butcher. Using course ground chicken makes it more like PF Changs. Try it next time. You will see.
i pulse my own in the food processor. you can get the desired consistancy.
Me too, I find I get the best consistency when I use my own fresh chicken brest in the food processor.
How long do you process it for?
I made this last night, skipped the onion, it was the same if not better than PF Changs!!! I also made the shrimp and broccoli which was also great!
Made this tonight and it was great!!! I sprinkled shredded carrots and bean sprouts on top and delicious. Keep up the great work.
I put carrots as well, thought maybe next time doing that with daikon as well!
I have made this meal time and time again. Based upon what ingredients I have at home will determine if I alter the recipe. Sadly, my husband is allergic to onions therefore I never put that in my food…. love this recipe. AMAZING! Pairs well with jasmine rice…I have added different proteins as well when I didn’t feel up to going to the grocery store and it’s still a delicious meal.
Only eaten at pc’s once and had these. They we yummy. But living an hour from the city we have to cook at home 99% of the time. These were great…and easy with wholesome foods made from scratch.
Made this for the holiday get together and everyone raved about it!!
I use to buy PF Chang chicken wrap frozen faithfully 4-5 pls each week at walmart. Now no dam store in Topeka Ks sells it. I’m so disappointed I love it
I used Dark Soy sauce, which is a bit sweeter and much better tasting than regular soy sauce, and it took this dish from really good to AMAZING!
Loved this recipe.
Taste was I feel I’m in heaven
Yesterday I was craving at home and due to lockdown, I can’t go anywhere. So I decided to make this and I must say It is an easy and loveable recipe.
Topeka Ks sells it. I’m so disappointed I love it
