PF Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps

A copycat recipe that you can easily make right at home in just 20 minutes. And it tastes a million times better too!
I am such a sucker for lettuce wraps. They are so low in carbs so I become a bottomless pit, stuffing my face without any kind of guilt. And when it’s an exact PF Chang’s replica that can be made in 20 minutes or less – well, that just means I’m having this 5 times a week.
I kid you not. This is the easiest, quickest meal you could ever make. And if you’re quick in the kitchen, you could even get this on the dinner table in less than 15 minutes. Plus, it’s budget-friendly and you can easily double or triple the recipe as needed. What more could you ask for?
PF Chang's Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, diced
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha, optional
- 1 (8-ounce) can whole water chestnuts, drained and diced
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 head butter lettuce

Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the chicken as it cooks; drain excess fat.
- Stir in garlic, onion, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ginger and Sriracha until onions have become translucent, about 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in chestnuts and green onions until tender, about 1-2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- To serve, spoon several tablespoons of the chicken mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf, taco-style.

So good! The right type of lettuce has been hard to find I recently served with rice and my hubby loved it! My boys like to put it in a tortilla instead of lettuce. It’s also great the next day served with mixed greens, sliced cucumbers, tomato’s and a rice vinegrette.
I just made this and it is EXACTLY like Chang’s. It’s delicious!

SO YUMMY and FRESH! This is a regular dinner meal my husband and I prepare. It is easy, fresh and sooo delicious! I prefer it over PF Chang’s actually.
Fantastic! Easy, quick and super delicious. We needed to use up what ginger we had, so put in a little more than was called for and it was still great. We were also out of Sriracha, so I substituted 1 generous teaspoon of Gochujang and it gave it the perfect “warmth” for my wife who does not do spicy very well. This is definitely what we call “a keeper”, and thank you so much for making this recipe available!
Delish! Mine came out a little dry, I used ground turkey, so I added a couple Tbsp of chicken broth to moisten it a little! Yummy, thanks for posting it
DELICIOUS! My hubs and I really enjoyed this for dinner, along with Pot Stickers (frozen from supermarket) on a hot summer evening. Cut ginger by 1/2, as we like a lighter ginger flavor. Also garnished with additional sliced green onions, because we love them. This recipe will be in our rotation.
Tried this tonight with diced chicken thighs (cut quite small) and everyone loved it! I was hoping for leftovers for work, but I guess I’ll have to pack something else!

This is delicious! I have made it several times. The only problem I have is finding the right type of lettuce that doesn’t become difficult to handle. Any suggestions on something else to put the chicken in? Thank you!

Can you please share best subsititute to chicken in this recipe
I’d double the water chestnuts and substitute more chopped mushrooms for the chicken.
More crunch and more umami meaty mushroom flavor.
If you were looking for another meat that isn’t chicken, try 90/10 ground beef.
I’ve made this recipe several times using soy curls (hydrated and roughly chopped) instead of chicken. I would guess you could similarly veganize with tvp or crumbled tofu.

Amazing taste. I would like to see someone chop all that in 10 min though. I spent about 30 minutes getting everything prepared, but definitely worth the effort. I picked up gochujang (my first time) instead of siracha because the store was out. It worked very well with the recipe. That was my only change except to double everything. A lot of recipes just aren’t flavorful enough for me, so I end up adding. This one is super tasty as is. If you haven’t made it before, I would suggest you try it without modification first. Your guests will be amazed. My guests all wanted to know what was in it that made so much flavor. My wife asked me why I haven’t made it before, lol.
Found this recipe randomly, and boy am I glad I did. Basically followed the “rules”, substituting a few ingredients, based on personal preference, and items on hand.
I prefer romaine hearts for the vessels, and used finely diced chicken breasts, for more texture…I don’t like anything that’s ground up.
I can honestly say right here and now…I’ll be eating this at least 2-3nts a week. YES… IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD!
