reasons to make pf chang’s chicken lettuce wraps
- Lightning fast recipe
- Budget-friendly
- Copycat favorite
- Healthy and low-carb yet so filling
- Can easily be doubled or tripled
- Freezes and reheats very well
Ingredients
Ground chicken
Ground chicken is a great economical, quick cooking option. Ground turkey, pork or beef (extra lean) can also be used.
Garlic
We love subbing in garlic puree, one of our favorite meal prep hacks to cut down on prep time even more.
Onion
Yellow, sweet or white onion will all work well here.
Hoisin
A key ingredient, the hoisin adds a complementary sweet, savory and tangy flavor to the filling.
Soy sauce
Tamari and coconut aminos can be used for gluten-free options.
Rice wine vinegar
Rice vinegar and rice wine vinegar are the same, and are used interchangeably.
Ginger
Similar to the garlic, we love subbing in ginger puree in a pinch.
Sriracha
For a little bit of heat! Chili garlic paste is also a great sub.
Water chestnuts
This helps bulk up the filling, and adds a nice little crunch.
Butter lettuce
Sturdy lettuce such as Bib or butter lettuce are both great options.
tips and tricks for success
- Use your favorite protein. This recipe will work well with quick-cooking ground chicken or ground turkey. Finely diced chicken breasts or chicken thighs can also be used.
- Use reduced sodium soy sauce. Reduced sodium has less sodium and less salt without compromising flavor.
- Make it mild. Need something a little more mild for the littles at home? Skip the Sriracha altogether.
- Sturdy leaves are best. Use Bibb or butter lettuce – both are ideal for wrapping as they have wide, pliable and sturdy leaves without falling apart when filled.
- Freeze leftovers. The filling is very freezer-friendly. Portion the leftover filling into plastic freezer bags in individual servings, squeezing out any excess air before sealing. Label, date and freeze up to 3 months.

PF Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps: Frequently Asked Questions
Bib or butter lettuce are both great choices – strong and sturdy that can hold up filling without breaking apart. Romaine lettuce is also a great option for a crisper wrap.
The optional Sriracha adds a little bit of heat but can be skipped altogether without compromising flavor.
Use gluten-free hoisin sauce, and swap the soy sauce for tamari or coconut aminos. Rice wine vinegar is generally gluten-free such as Marukan Rice Vinegar.
Leftover filling can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days, adding a splash of chicken broth when reheating (if needed). Store leftover lettuce separately in an airtight container or Ziploc bag to prevent sogginess and wilting.
Yes! Let the filling cool completely and portion into plastic freezer bags. To reheat, thaw overnight in the fridge, reheating over low heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through.

Super good recipe and an easy dinner. I added shredded carrots and topped with finely chopped peanuts.
Delicious! I knew this was going to be good just from the smell in my kitchen while it was cooking. Thanks for the great recipe!
This is delicious! I used a small electric chopper to grind the chunks of boneless skinless chicken breast before cooking, it worked great. This recipe tastes just like PF Chang’s, costs less, quick to make and feeds more! Thank you
Amazing! I made mine gluten free and they tasted just like PF Chang’s- excellent recipe. I will definitely make this again.
We do rice, shred lettuce on top and then do the meat mixture! Easy and delicious!
How do you make it gluten free?
GF soy sauce and GF hoisin sauce are the only things you need to alter.
Just made this for lunch.. I was craving yesterday and stumbled upon this recipe.. I had ground turkey instead of chicken, and used garlic chili paste instead of sriracha had the 2 replacements on hand.. yum will def make again!
Absolutely delicious. The whole family enjoys this recipe.
Delish!! Everyone enjoys this wonderful dish…so good for your figure, too!
Loved this recipe but felt it needed a little boost at the end in the lettuce cup so, added chopped salted cashews and cilantro, (the idea came from an Epicurious recipe), really brought the flavors to life!
I hate when tasty food takes little to no time to make because it’s so easy to eat it too often and usually it’s high on carbs :). This one is quick to make but low on carbs so I’ll be without any kind of guilt as you are…Thank You!
So simple, yet so tasty!
For those who love cilantro, add to the wrap and it’ll make big difference. You think this recipe is great as is, but after having it with cilantro, this original recipe seems like an A- compared to an A+ with cilantro.
Agreed
Simple and easy best combo
Love this recipe! Can I change to chicken breasts? Thanks!
I came here from your instagram page. I made this recipe yesterday night with my sister which was so delicious. Thanks for your posts. Again thanks for your post. I love your instagram posts.
I made this last night and it was delicious. I love the crunch of the water chestnuts. Eating it in the lettuce wrap is perfect! One thing I noticed is the sodium content – when I tracked it in my food diary, it shows double the sodium amount. I only use lower-sodium soy sauce so I was thinking the milligrams would be even lower; however, they weren’t. Can you double-check the recipe to see if the nutritional facts are correct?
This turned out great. Loved it and so easy.
So, so delicious — highly recommend!
Excellent and delicious! Easy to make. I ground my own chicken using 3 skinless boneless chicken breasts. Only change I made was using an additional tablespoon of olive oil because chicken was so lean. Also didn’t need salt and pepper at end because it was perfect without it. Would make again. For the sauce I used the Ginger Soy Sauce recipe from Food.com. These wraps tasted like PF Chang’s. Thank you for sharing!

So good!!! Better than PF Changs in my opinion because they don’t cost an arm and a leg – haha! We eat these often and my whole family enjoys them!
I would not add salt due to the high sodium content of the other sauces that are added.
This is not a larb recipe, Emme, larb is good, and we make it far more often than the lettuce wraps but larb is a Thai dish with mint, fish sauce chilies and other goodies. The PF Changs crunchy thing in it is the puffed fried rice vermicelli they add for crunch and to absorb some of the sauce.
