Slow Cooker Cheesy Bacon Ranch Potatoes
The easiest potatoes you can make right in the crockpot – perfectly tender, flavorful and cheesy!
Potatoes. Cheese. And bacon. With these 3, you can’t go wrong.
And when you can throw these in a slow cooker, well that’s a double win right there.
Now the hardest part about these is not the prep.
It’s the part where you have to hold yourself back before you eat every single perfectly-textured potato chunk smothered in cheesy goodness and crisp bacon bits.
And I really don’t even know how to classify this. It could be an appetizer, side dish, snack or an entree.
I actually had it as all of the above, and devoured every last potato. And don’t think that Jason and I weren’t fighting for that last bacon bit at the bottom of the plate!
Slow Cooker Cheesy Bacon Ranch Potatoes
Ingredients
- 6 slices bacon
- 3 pounds red potatoes, chopped
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- 1 tablespoon Ranch Seasoning and Salad Dressing Mix, or more, to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped chives
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Spread bacon in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheet. Place into oven and bake until brown and crispy, about 12-14 minutes. Let cool before crumbling; set aside.
- Line a slow cooker with aluminum foil, leaving enough to overhang to wrap the potatoes on top, and coat with nonstick spray. Place a layer of potatoes evenly into the slow cooker. Top with cheese, Ranch Seasoning and bacon, repeating 2 more times and reserving 1/2 cup cheese.
- Cover potatoes with aluminum foil. Cover and cook on low heat for 7-8 hours or high heat for 3-4 hours, or until potatoes are tender. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Cover and cook until melted, about 1-2 minutes.
- Serve immediately, garnished with chives.

Can you make this in a Dutch oven?? I gave my crock pot away a along time ago
I found this recipe too late to use my slow cooker so I fried the bacon, cut up the potatoes and put that in the grease, added onions and the bacon and ranch mix and baked it for about 45 minutes. Then added the cheese for another five minutes. Really good. Next time I will use the slow cooker as I love not heating up the house in summer.
Love crock pot recipes. Love & have done many of recipes that yall have posted & love them.
Has anyone tried this using rutabagas instead of potatoes?
Can this be made stove top? I am physically unable to handle a slow cooker and live alone.
HELP!! My daughter would like me to make these for her wedding next week. I’ve made them a few times they are EXCELLENT!! There expecting approximately 100 people…I got an electric Roaster but no clue how to adapt the recipe & the cooking time. I’ve never even cooked in an electric roaster! Any suggestions would be Greatly appreciated!! THANKS
Not a review, but a question. Has anyone tried this with a slow cooker liner instead of aluminum foil?
I always use crockpot liners. Works fine!
Is there a way to make this with bottled ranch?
These are so easy and delicious. I followed the recipe but used real bacon bits and cooked them a bit more in the microwave before using in the recipe. I didn’t have chives and they were still wonderful. The next time I might use a bit more ranch seasoning. I forgot to spray the foil with nonstick spray and it was fine. I made 3 1/2 pounds of baby potatoes cut up and it took about 4 hours on high to cook. Everyone enjoyed them and one guest asked for the recipe. It’s a keeper and will definitely be made again. Thank you!
I love this recipe because it can be modified so that there’s just enough flavor to seem decadent without adding extra fat. (We use less cheese and bacon). We have made these twice and they are fantastic. I have a large family so I’m cooking 5 pounds of potatoes in a 6-7 quart crock pot. They were done in about 4 hours the first time. We will see how they are today. Great recipe!
After reading all of the comment, I am wondering why you don’t just go to everyone home and make it for them, might be easier. LOL. I made it as instructed, and the Family loved it. Thank you for this great recipe. I am sure we will have this many times.
These potatoes just melt in your mouth with the cheese bacon and ranch dressing flavor add a burst of goodness added in. I wanted to cut down the cook time so I nuked the potatoes for 5 minutes and it cut off about an hour. DAM DELICIOUS says it all!
Hi, Can i use the regular slow cooker liner instead of the foil?
Delicious potatoes. I added garlic and onion and subbed ranch mixed from packet (about 1/3 cup). Turned out perfect. Thanks for recipe!
I made this for my friends daughters birthday party and it was a huge hit! I have had multiple people ask for the recipe! AMAZING!
Made this exactly as directed, but didn’t have chives, so used some chopped up nacho jalapeños we had on store, it was so good! Thank you for your wonderful, easy and delicious recipes!
Great improvising! Glad you liked it! 🙂
I have made this several times! Its delicious.
Can you use regular ranch from a bottle?
This requires ranch powder, not bottled dressing.
Yes we always use bottled ranch.
I added a simple cheese sauce (melted butter, cheddar and milk). It was perfect.
Husband counting carbs. What is the actual serving size – 1 cup?
Hi Nancy! You would have to divide the full amount by 8 servings to get the serving size. Hope that helps!
