Honey Orange Firecracker Shrimp
Sweet and spicy crispy shrimp for all occasions (appetizer or main) with the most heavenly and amazing honey orange sauce!
I’m all about tailgating apps – hot dogs, sheet pan nachos, chicken wings, you name it.
I’ll take them all.
But this.
This firecracker shrimp.
This really takes the cake.
The honey orange sauce is the true star here.
And thanks to McCormick, the sauce comes together in seconds using a few pantry spices.
Now you can drizzle, toss, dunk or dip these crispy shrimp babies.
It’s up to you.
But I’d go for the drizzle+dunk action.

- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 2 large eggs, beaten

For the sauce
- ½ cup honey
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
- Zest of 1 orange
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder

- To make the glaze, combine honey, orange juice, orange zest, garlic powder, red pepper flakes and ginger over medium low heat. Bring to a boil, simmering until thickened, about 1-2 minutes.

delicious! i used spicy chili crisp in place of the red pepper flakes. Served it over rice mixed with spicy chili crisp for extra taste. This was so good! Absolutely no leftovers!! will make again for sure!
Delicious! We aren’t fond of crushed red pepper flakes, so I subbed am out a tablespoon of sweet chile sauce. Served over orzo simmered in chicken broth. Theank you for sharing your recipe
I know this is an old recipe but are the ingredients correct? I made it as written and it was unbearably sweet and just tasted like honey. I wonder if the orange juice and honey measurements have been switched?
Loved this! I paired it with broccoli and rice to make it
More of a meal. Not a single bite leftover! SO good!
Hello, I want to try this recipe but I just was wondering some clarification. In this and other recipes, when you use shrimp are you using raw or precooked shrimp?
Toni, recipes typically specify if precooked shrimp is required. In this case, you want to use raw shrimp as it is cooked in step #2.
I love this recipe! Ive made it many times and it comes out delicious! My question is about the eggs. When I dip my shrimp in egg and cornstarch, they get coated really well and I end up with a thick coating of batter that is like s little scrambled egg pancake with a shrimp in it! Any suggestions for how I can avoid this? It’s still delicious, just not pretty or easy to work with.
Hi Kelly! Is there any way you can try a thinner coat instead?
Sorry I’m a complete novice in lasagna… i am throwing a dinner party and just realized one guest is vegetarian! Now because i have sooo much to cook, I want to make this and freeze it…now for the stupid novice question:
Do i bake this and then freeze it…or do i just have it ready in layers (no baking) and then freeze it???
And both ways, bake later for how long after coming out of the freezer?
Please reply urgently!! 😛
Rish, I’m a little confused here. This recipe is for the honey orange firecracker shrimp.
The shrimp recipes were outstanding! Hopefully my wife can cook it today for dinner … hmm .. surely delicious
I always order firecracker shrimp as an appetizer whenever it’s offered at a restaurant. I have yet to make it myself at home so this is perfect! It looks delicious!

My husband is not a big shrimp fan (I know, he’s crazy!) Would this work with chicken?
Yes, absolutely.
If made with chicken would you still recommend coating the chicken with egg? Or would it be okay to omit that step? I have a rather unfortunate egg allergy 🙁
Yes, you can omit as needed.
Made this for my girlfriend and I Monday night. Didn’t have Orange Juice (used water instead) or Ginger and it still came out tasting great over rice!!! And as with the other recipe I made from here, no leftovers, cause it was so good!!! haa haa Thank you!
This shrimp looks amazing! I need to make this foe dinner one night this week!
Wow yum, I would love to serve this up in the middle of the table for a social gathering or something around those lines. Excellent work as always (:
You are really an inspiration ! Thank you
This sounds FAB, but is there a way to make it without frying the shrimp? Hopefully yes!
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
