The easiest fuss-free apple pear crisp made right in your crockpot with a sweet crispy topping that is TO DIE FOR!!!
I figured we needed a break from all the soups.
Yes, it’s freezing cold. And yes we need all the soups and stews we can get our hands on.
But, more importantly, we need dessert. But not just any dessert.
We still need a warm and cozy dessert.
One that requires no babysitting or fuss. One that we can just whip up into a slow cooker and walk away from.
And that’s exactly what we have here.
15 minutes prep time with just 3 things.
Your filling, Your topping. And vanilla ice cream for serving.
The most difficult thing about this is choosing which ice cream flavor to go with your apple crisp.
I recommend a classic vanilla but you can’t go wrong with any other choice.
Slow Cooker Apple Pear Crisp
Ingredients
- 4 apples, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch slices
- 3 Bosc pears, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch slices
- ⅓ cup light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- Pinch of ground nutmeg
For the topping
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup old fashioned oats
- ½ cup chopped pecans
- ⅓ cup light brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into cubes
Instructions
- To make the topping, combine flour, oats, pecans, sugar, cinnamon and salt in a medium bowl. Add cold butter and toss to coat, using your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles coarse crumbs; set aside.
- Lightly coat the inside of a 4-qt slow cooker with nonstick spray. Place apples, pears into the slow cooker. Stir in brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Sprinkle with reserved topping, using your fingertips to gently press the crumbs into the batter.
- Place a clean dishtowel over the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat for 2-3 hours or high heat for 90 minutes. Remove the dishtowel and continue cooking, uncovered, until the topping is browned and the apples are just tender, about 1 hour.
- Serve warm.

Just wondering what the purpose of the cloth over the slow cooker might be? I’m thinking, all apples and a vanilla caramel swirl ice cream.
The purpose of the clean dishtowel is to absorb the condensation and stop it from dripping down into the dish. This is the secret to a crisp topping!
Do you think I could make this in the Instant Pot, Slow cooker setting?
I don’t see why that shouldn’t work! 🙂
I am going to follow this as written, but I am curious about the towel. What is its purpose?

Is the dish towel the only cover or are you using the dish towel and the lid?
You are using both the dishtowel and the lid.
Just to be super clear: the dish towel covers the cooker and then put the lid on?
Yes, that is correct.
Hi – this looks great – are there a certain type of apples that will work best with this?
Crisp and tart apples like Empire, Granny Smith or Honey Crisp work best here. Hope that helps!
Just wanted to mention that I’ve found this recipe very versatile. It came out great today with the 9 hard pears I had on hand and no apples. (I like to eat soft pears…so your recipe fixed them! 😉 )
Hi! Looks like a great recipe! Could you provide an alternative with oven bake time and temperature?

This looks AMAZING! I love all fruit crisps!

It will be easier and nicer if you ll have more photos or a video with the reciepe
I am going to offer the opposite feedback. I LOVE that I don’t have to scroll through 52 pictures of the food to get to the recipe. THANK YOU!
Thanks, Tracey!
I know this is an older post but I’m going to say the same as the last commenter… thanks for the short intro and quick to the recipe and no video
Can I use all Apple instead of pear?
Absolutely!
If you doubled the recipe, would it fit in a 6-qt slow cooker? If so, how would you adjust the cook time? Thanks!

Love that you used apples and pears! Yum!
