Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup

Classic chicken noodle soup that will leave you feeling so good, so warm, so cozy. Perfect for sick days and cold nights!!!
It’s the dead of winter. 33 degrees F all week. Snow and ice piles everywhere. And it’s only January, meaning we basically have about 3-4 months of winter left.
And now that I am officially a Midwest resident, that basically translates to having this chicken noodle soup on the regular all. winter. long. It’s so warm, so cozy, and so soothing during these chilly nights.
Now this recipe uses bone-in, skinless chicken breasts which means it will take a little longer than usual for the chicken to cook through.
But don’t worry, it yields the most flavorful stock and the most tender chicken bites (so it’s absolutely worth the extra time), doctored up with fresh dill and freshly squeezed lemon juice for a little bit of jazz. SO SO GOOD.
Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 carrots, peeled and diced
- 2 ribs celery, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 cups chicken stock
- 2 bay leaves
- Kosher salt freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 ½ pounds bone-in, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 ½ cups wide egg noodles
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice, or more, to taste
Instructions
- Melt butter in a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion, carrots and celery. Cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Stir in chicken stock and bay leaves; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Add chicken and bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer, covered, until the chicken is cooked through, about 30-40 minutes. Remove chicken and let cool before dicing into bite-size pieces, discarding bones.
- Stir in chicken and pasta and cook until tender, about 6-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat; stir in parsley, dill and lemon juice; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Serve immediately.

I used chicken broth instead of stock and chicken boneless breast’s instead of bone in and it still came out absolutely amazing, super super easy!!
love this recipe for chicken soup; Made for the 10th time tonight and it was spectacular as usual; added hot pepper flakes at end to spice it up. Also I make it w chicken thighs;
Well, let’s just say we will never buy canned or store made chicken noodle soup ever again. OMG, so so good. Forgot to put in the dill, but was still amazing. Used Better than Bullion lower sodium chicken broth. Used 1 chicken thigh as it was only for 2 people. My husband raved about it. That was a 1st for soup!
Is it possible to freeze? Do leftovers stay good?
Delicious! The whole family loves it. Adding the herbs and lemon juice at the end provides a great burst of freshness. I made this recipe several times and occasionally mix breast meat with some thigh meat for a little extra savoriness, but it’s great either way. Also, I add extra carrot… love the flavor when cooked in that broth.
This soup is DELICIOUS and I definitely recommend trying it.
Has been very much enjoyed by everyone that I’ve made it for.
Thank you very much for sharing this great recipe!!!
Instead of chicken breast, I used bone in chicken thighs. I skin them before cooking and trim off any large clumps of fat. After cooking remove boned. Meat from
chicken thighs is much more flavorful than breast meat.
Awesome recipe! It’s now my go to!!
I absolutely love this recipe. It’s my go to for Chicken Noodle soup! You absolutely cannot go wrong with this recipe!
This is the most delicious chicken noodle soup I’ve ever made! I prepare it just as written and we enjoy this soup about once a month or more at my home. Thank you for this!
I made this soup with extra garlic, lemon juice, carrots and onions and loads of dill during a ski trip with 3 families. 6 adult and 6 kids ages 6-11. It pleased everyone! We did not use butter due to a dairy allergy, instead using olive oil. Everyone loved it. Some adults said they’d never thought to use dill in their chick noodle soup but that they would now! My family makes this recipe multiple times during the winter and more when one is sick. It’s a damn delicious way to get a lot of vegetables in bellies.
Hands down the BEST Chicken Noodle Soup I have ever had. I have been making it for 3 years now and have friends ask me to make them a batch
So good!!!
The recipe’s simplicity allowed for an easy and enjoyable cooking experience.
This has been my go to for months. It’s delicious!!
This is easy and delicious! My husband and I really enjoyed it. I substituted boneless chicken in order to save time and did not add bay leaves or dill – it was still full of so much flavor!! I 100% recommend and it is definitely worth your time.
This was the best chicken noodle soup I have ever served My husband went back for a third cup❤️. Also so easy to make
Simply incredible. Easy to make and my favorite CNS recipe that I have ever made!
Delicious soup and so simple to make!
Hi there ! I absolutely love your meals! I can’t seem to find the nutritional information though. I have to keep track of certain nutrients. It’s the only thing that makes me hesitate making meals from this site. Maybe I’m missing them??
Thank you for sharing these yummy recipies
This is so good!
Can I use boneless? I don’t often find bone-in organic chicken breasts.
Really delicious soup recipe! Especially during the cold season! I may have added more veggies (carrots, celery) and broth (an extra 2 cups), but stuck to Chungahs recipe, will be making again!! Thanks for sharing this recipe!
I made it to feel warmth and comfort after eating like a pig from holidays. Wonderful!
A family favorite!!! It’s perfection!
This is the best chicken noodle soup you’ll ever have. The addition of the dill & lemon at the end takes it over the top comforting. So good!
This was great for a chilly night; very tasty.
This is a crazy good recipe. I have made it several time for informal gatherings and people love it. I may go a little heavier on the chicken thighs 🙂 but oh well. Question: We are going to a party that has everyone bringing appetizers. The host has requested this soup and she is going to serve it in mugs. Is there a make ahead technique that I should consider. I really need to make it in the morning due to my schedule and then heat it up. Again–thanks for the recipe.
I cook the noodles separately and add them when serving the soup. That way it’s good for several days without the noodles getting mushy and overcooked.
Can I use dried dill
Soup is a big hit! Love the flavor profile! I used the last serving of spaghetti noodles in the box instead. Thank you for the recipe
This is my absolute favorite chicken noodle soup recipe I’ve ever made. I’ve made it several times now and made my own minor flavor tweaks of course. My husband is SE Asian so maybe my pallet has adapted to his tastes over the years, but I like to add a pinch of MSG and maybe a tablespoon of good fish sauce (we like the three crabs brand). Those two additions just kick up the umami profile and if you’re nervous about fish sauce, don’t be! Not an ingredient to take a big wif of or sip on its own but it’s delicious for adding a savory element.
I keep making this! It’s so easy and so yummy!
Thank u so much for reaching me how to make this!! I like cooking love to experience and experiment, that said I am very appreciative that it was done for me and just needed to follow recipe!! I mean this, u set a foundation for what will be my soup from now own moving forward! Thank u
I used leftover turkey in place of chicken. It turned out great.
This was amazing! And the leftovers tasted even better and next day! The dill put it over the top!
This is my go to chicken soup. I love the lemon and dill. I may add mushrooms or a bit of finely chopped fresh spinach or kale to stretch it. I prefer orzo though rest of family likes noodles. I always try to make extra to freeze.
I wish I had some yesterday when I had a migraine and terrible nausea and dizziness. But I didn’t so made a HUGE pot tonight so I’ll have plenty in freezer!
The best chicken noodle soup!
I absolutely love this recipe. It’s easy to follow. I’ve been using this same recipe for over a year now. It is perfect especially when your sick or someone you know is sick! I froze mine because there was so much and I heat it some up sometimes. It’s great!
This recipe is fantastic!! With a few tweaks to make a larger amount, and a shortcut of using rotisserie chicken vs raw bone-in, this soup was sooooo delicious. Eaten with some rustic French bread, feels like I ordered out when really it was home-cooked!! Thank you!!
My son is sick so I found this recipe and the whole family enjoyed it! I left out the lemon, dill and parsley for the kids but I thoroughly enjoyed adding those ingredients in at the end for a nice, clean flavor kick! Thanks for sharing. I will be making this again.
Delicious
Really delicious! After reading everyone’s comments I added in one teaspoon of tumeric and used riced pilaf/orzo. I’ll be bookmarking and making again in the future!
Really great chicken soup!
How many bone-in chicken breasts make 2 1/2 pounds?
It was 4 for me.
This was so tasty! I served it over rice and it brought back so many childhood memories! Thank you!
This looks SO delicious! I know it’s not ideal, but it I were to use shredded chicken that I have precooked, how much do you think I would need roughly and also- how long would I need to simmer the soup since the chicken doesn’t have to cook? I’m a little unsure, thank you!
Did you leave noodles out?
I’m PICKY when it comes to chicken noodle soup and this is now my go-to recipe. I even cheat and use better than bullion, and it’s still delicious. Only change is I cook the noodles separately, so they don’t absorb the soup. Thank you for a fantastic recipe!
I made this recipe yesterday almost exactly as stated. Before googling and finding your cns recipe, I had sent my husband to the store to buy a rotisserie chicken to use in a cns recipe. Everything else is per your recipe. My husband loved it and told me so. Coming from him, that is a great compliment as he dishes out the compliments very sparingly. I love the addition of lemon juice in the soup.
Can’t wait to make this.
Just wondering how much added salt would be recommended to just bring out all the flavors?
I do not want to over-salt.
Thanks
Oops, I forgot to give my rating. I was so excited to give my comment.
I love these recipes.
Fam, I made this soup on yesterday and it was so very good.
Don’t take my word for it. I challenge you to try it.
I have been making this recipe for at least a few years. Since I found this recipe I have not tried another. My family loves it! I’m making it right now but this time I’m using chicken thighs and shredding them..just to try something a little different. This recipe is absolutely #damndelicious as is
My co worker made this recipe and I am in love. Definitely making as I write this review. I’m putting this recipe with my favorites and will be making during our Minnesota winter ❤️
This soup is amazing! It’s great as is but could also be converted into a chicken and dumplings situation, you could add any in-season veggies, etc. I’ll continue to make!
What if you don’t have fresh dill
Can I make this in the slow cooker?
I’ve made this recipe so many times and it never fails! Just delicious! I love adding some habanero pepper in mine for a kick as well!
The lemon and dill make it absolutely delicious! I added a teaspoon of tumeric as well. A go-to recipe for sure.
I have made this several times and it never fails to be absolutely delicious! I usually don’t have fresh parsley on hand, so I skip that, and I add a teaspoon or so of turmeric as well. Otherwise, the recipe is incredible as is.
This was delicious and so easy, I used bone in skin on chicken thigh cutlets and shredded the mean and tossed the skin. Was just what I needed for my rotten head cold!
Take this recipe a step further add to the veggies 1 large or 2 small parsnip peeled and diced same with a small turnip. This will give the authentic Jewish chicken soup flavor.
I added heavy whipping cream too, which gave it a slightly creamy taste but didn’t thicken it too much. It really kicked an already delicious recipe, up another notch!
Just what I’ve been looking for! I’ve been making this recipe for a few years but I would love to try it creamy. How much heavy cream do you add to yours?
It was easy to follow. However my egg noodles came out gummy in texture.
This the best chicken soup I ever made!
Made this recipe love it, so easy to make!
I usually don’t like chicken soup because it is bland. This recipe is so flavorful and so easy to make! It has become a regular in the rotation.
This was so easy to make and so delicious!
Thank you for sharing this recipe! I love how it’s simple, easy to follow, and absolutely delicious! I’ve made this many times for my family and it’s always a hit!
Easy and delicious! I loved the dill.
I’ve never been a huge CNS fan until I stumbled onto this recipe that added dill, parsley, and lemon juice. It really brightened up a soup that could some times be a bit boring. My go-to chicken noodle soup recipe.
Killer soup
My family loves this soup! I do not like dill so I add fresh sprigs of thyme and saute them with the onions at the beginning. Thanks for the best chicken noodle soup recipe!
Can I use Better Than Bouillon for the stock?
I have done that a few times and it works perfectly.
Oh my!! THIS is it! Made this today for myself and the Mrs. Wow! The dill and lemon really make this dish taste completely different from all other homemade chicken noodle soups. I use skinless chicken breast quite often, bone in isn’t needed in my opinion. Also, I always use a tablespoon or two of chicken base Better than Bouillon.
I add swiss chard to this and it’s yummy.
I’ve made this recipe many times. I’ve even recommended it to my sister and now she’s hooked. It’s really that good!!! The soup will just warm your soul! Don’t skip the dill! It’s a must
Very good
I’ve come to think of chicken noodle soup as a little bit boring & bland. It’s the stuff you eat when you’re sick because it won’t upset your stomach more, right? This recipe is so much more than that. It’s about as close to perfection as food can get. The chicken is tender, the broth flavorful, and the herbs and lemon took it to the next level.
We love this recipe! A couple of changes we made were to use boneless/skinless thigh meat, more noodles (dumpling egg noodles) to make more balanced with the meat, and all dried herbs.
Love this recipe! The lemon and dill set this apart! It’s damn delicious!
My family says this is the best chicken soup they have ever tasted!.It has become one of our favourite recipes especially in colder months
I have made this several times and am wondering what the calorie content is when it is made with noodles or with rice?
This soup has been so delicious every time! My baby absolutely loves it and the leftovers always finish. I exclude dill, as it’s an acquired taste for my husband, but the lemon is his absolute favorite part of this meal. Definitely recommend this recipe to anyone looking to make a wholesome bowl of soup. The bone in the chicken adds more flavor.
It is so delicious I like the lemon taste
☺️
I made this for a sick neighbor and of course I hope she feels better but I am SO happy I made it b/c my very picky son had TWO helpings, and I might have had 3. The dill and lemon was so refreshing and great. Can’t wait to make again, thank you!!!
I made a huge batch of this soup and have been eating it everyday for a week! Its just so d*** good!!! So much flavor but also brings the nostalgic home feels. I highly recommend this recipe.
This soup is absolutely fabulous! I did have a couple changes to the recipe based on what I had in my pantry/fridge: I used boneless/skinless chicken breast meat that I trimmed and cut into about 1 1/2″ pieces; added Jane’s Crazy Salt for additional spices; added additional chicken bouillon along with the Swanson chicken broth; and used the juice of one whole lemon at the end of cooking.
I did not have fresh dill or parsley, but did add both of the dried spices when the soup was simmering to allow time to incorporate the flavors. Absolutely the best chicken soup I have ever had (and I have tried umpteen recipes over the years). I will make this again as written with the chicken with bones, fresh dill and parsley! This recipe is a keeper, thank you for sharing it!
Good simple recipe. Helped to sauté the vegs 1st. I had already cooked half a chicken with vegs to produce a stock then strained. Used multi color mini potatoes instead of pasta.
This recipe is absolutely delicious. I hadn’t eaten chicken noodle soup in probably 20 years before making this because I simply didn’t care for it. I can now say I really like chicken noodle soup! Thank you for the recipe!
Made this soup a couple of weeks ago and it was delicious. I agree that the fresh dill is a MUST! I’m making it again this weekend but was curious if it’s okay to freeze it or keep it in the fridge if I make it 1-2 days ahead of when I will be serving it?
The store was out of fresh dill, so I put a few springs of rosemary, thyme, and parsley to cook with the soup. It was delicious! Best chicken noodle soup I’ve made. The bone in makes all the difference. I can never find skinless with bone in but the skin doesn’t bother me. I’ve even made it with drumsticks and that makes the cook time less.
I’m not going to lie! I was unsure of the lemon & dill especially because I tasted it before adding and it was already delicious. But, I do love both so I went ahead and threw it all in. Hands down best chicken noodle soup I’ve had! So good!!
This was definitely a good starter recipe. I will add more herbs next time as it was a little bland. Added more lemon juice as well at the end – made a huge difference. Will continue to use this as my starting point though!
This is my Go To recipe when were wanting a good pot of soup. Only thing i change is seasoning the chicken with italiano seasoning before cooking to give it more flavor! other then that 10/10 in our books 🙂
This is definitely a keeper! I did modify, I combined this recipe with Damn Delicious’s Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup recipe. Essentially I added a teaspoon of dried sage with the garlic, 2 tablespoons of flour before the stock, frozen peas with the noodles, and then a 1/2 cup of heavy cream off the heat. Bone in breasts make all the difference flavor wise. Best chicken noodle soup I’ve ever had and especially warming with some sriracha squeezed in. Yum!!!
First time for this recipe and it’s so good!
I used dry dill, it seemed fine.
Will make again!
Ok I make this once a month it’s perfect. Absolutely perfect. I’ve done it with chicken breasts too. Just make it exactly how it says and you’ll make the best chicken soup you ever had. Pro tip. Buy an orange instead of a lemon. And squeeze some juice in at the end. It’s next level.
Delicious. Love the dill – this will be my go to recipe.
My new favorite chicken noodle soup. The dill takes this chicken soup to a whole new level. I cooked the chicken and noodles separately because I dont like the chicken foamy water in my soups but this was great. My husband and son loved it too. Definitely replacing my old recipe.
I followed this recipe (mostly, I added some white pepper as well and didn’t really have 2.5 lbs of chicken) and the soup was spot on delicious! Thanks!
What if you don’t have the bay leaves?
No big. Thyme works and is used in chicken soup all the time. I’d use a tablespoon of dried, which is three teaspoons. You might use as little as one teaspoon. Soup won’t look as clean, cuz you can’t remove the thyme like you can bay leaves. But after you add the fresh parsley and dill, it’ll be beautiful. And btw the dill isn’t necessary either. It’s a nice idea, but it’s chicken soup without it.
I love this recipe I have made it several times now. I always end up doubling it but the lemon juice just make it so delicious it’s addicting.
I love the way this recipe embodies all of the feels you crave to experience when eating Chicken Noodle soup! It’s a family favorite!
Unique and superior and just Damned Delicious. Dill happens to be one of my favorite herbs.
This is the BEST chicken noodle soup I’ve ever had! The lemon & dill really bring this basic soup to a whole new level. I’m done , I’m done looking for the perfect recipe! Thank you! FYI: I made it exactly as written.
I think this is a REALLY great base recipe. I used chicken thighs boneless/skinless, I used an extra cup of water, chicken bullion, thyme, rosemary, garlic salt, red pepper flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, lemon pepper, and extra bay leaves. I’m not a huge dill or parsley fan but this is sooooooo good!
This is my go to chicken soup recipe! Very easy to make. The ONLY thing I change is add more veggies since I love veggies.
This recipe for Chicken Noodle Soup is the Best! I made a gallon at a time and take it in to serve at a soup kitchen. They love it. I use several chicken backs and thigh meat along with vegetable broth and chicken broth. The dill and lemon juice just adds a sparkling zing to the soup. 5 STAR +!
5 stars for the best chicken soup, EVER!
The best soup. I used Jasmine rice in place of noodles. It was a big hit.
The dill in here is a really nice touch I went off script a little and included turmeric + paprika. Chicken is a little dry but I used boneless/skinless so that’s on me, next time I’ll probably use bone in thighs instead.
Making this again today! I’ve made this recipe 2 times already and each time it is more delicious. I use boneless skinless chicken breast and I season it with S&P and garlic powder. My boyfriend says this is his favorite chicken noodle soup. It is such a wonderful recipe!
I love this recipe. My husband said it was the best homemade chicken noodle soup he ever had
I have made this soup this way many times and it comes out good. Only difference is, I make the egg noodles al dente in a separate pot and then add them to the bowl I’m eating out of, and then ladle the soup mixture on top. In the past, the noodles soaked up too much broth and was way thick when I cooked them in the actual soup itself. Also, when reheating leftovers, you can make sure your noodles won’t soak up too much broth. I keep the egg noodles in a Ziplock bag in the fridge and add to my bowl I will re-heat in, in the microwave. It keeps the egg noodles a perfect texture without being too mushy. Plus, you can add as much noodles or as little as you want. I learned to do this with chicken and rice soup as well. I used to add the rice to the soup while cooking, but the rice soaked up all the broth and it was like a weird chicken soup risotto. LOL So now, I add the rice separate and it comes out perfect.
Now that hit the spot! I accidentally added about an extra tsp of garlic, didn’t have the parsley or dill, and I cooked my chicken in the crockpot seasoned with S&P on high for 4 hours, diced and added in the end and let it all sit together for about 10 minutes with the heat off. Paired with a grilled cheese. I’m already planning on making more batches for my freezer for flu season! My tummy thanks you!
I know it’s summer time but this what I wanted. I made this recipe and it is better than any other. I only had chicken breasts with out the bone but was still amazing. Thank you. This one legit.
AND WHOEVER GAVE THIS RECIPE LESS THAN 5 STARS DOES’NT KNOW HOW TO COOK OR CANT FOLLOW SIMPLE COOKING DIRECTIONS. I WILL be MAKING THIS RECIPE AGAIN.
Yummmmm!!!!! Smells amazing too!
Very heart-warming homemade chicken soup. Meeded an easy recipe and found this one. It wasa perfect, but asy recipe. Will save the recipe for future use.
SO GOOD! Just made this today and it was a huge hit in our family, everyone loved it! The dill and lemon addition really makes it. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, definitely will be making again.
Wow! I have made other chicken noodle soup recipes in the past, but this is THE BEST!! I don’t know why, but it must be the dill and lemon (and the love for cooking)!!
Thank you so very much x
This was an excellent recipe. My go-to recipe for when we’re feeling under the weather. I have almost learned to cook it from memory. Thank you for this extremely easy to make and tasty dish!
My go to chicken soup my toddler loves it and would eat it everyday if she could!
Absolutely fantastic. This recipe is a near copy of an old recepie. The difference is that you add the extra dill and a little lemon juice. What a difference that makes. Certainly is a permanent change to one family recipe. Thank you!
was wondering if you could add some frozen peas and a couple of potatoes with the soup ?
A-MA-ZING!!!! The lemon and dill change everything! I will never go back. Now I just need to clean out the garden and plant some herbs or remember to buy fresh dill. 🙂
The only change I made was using orzo b/c I was out of noodles, but I liked it even better than traditional noodles personally. (I’m a chicken and rice fan but use noodles for the rest of the family).
This chicken soup is delicious! I can eat homemade soup anytime of year, and I was craving chicken noodle soup. Whenever I make a new recipe, I always follow it exactly and alter it afterwards to meet my own taste preferences. I feel no need to change a thing. I loved it as is.
I didn’t want to add the dill or lemon juice at the end but decided to commit to the recipe. Wow, was I surprised. The fresh dill and lemon juice really heighten the flavor and lightened up the soup. I will definitely make this again.
I am glad to have found this recipe. It’s raining quite a lot lately and this noodle soup has made the gloomy days better and more fun. Definitely gonna recommend this to my friends and family.
It was delicious, just didn’t use the dill or lemon and added a can of cream of chicken soup and Oregano. Thank You everyone just loved it!
The best soup ever! My kids ate all of it! New family staple!
Wow, delicious! I was a little hesitant to add the lemon and dill but I decided to follow the recipe…it adds a light bright flavour to the soup that can’t be matched. And I didn’t have to add any extra chicken flavour that I usually have to with chicken or turkey soup. A winner!
I used turkey instead and it came out wonderfully.
This is a great recipe for the covid blues. While I haven’t tried this out yet, I added this to my recipe book to try out. I’m an Oakland California caterer so I know a good recipe when I see one. I’m definitely going to give this one a try in the very near future!
Wow – SO good and very easy. I doubled the celery and carrots and cooked the noodles separately as others recommended. Very nourishing for sick days!
The best chicken soup I’ve ever had by a long shot! Used dried herbs and was limited on time after work so I used rotisserie chicken. It was such a hit!
This is the BEST chicken soup recipe!! My go to every time someone in my family is sick or it’s just a soup kind of night 🙂
My family LOVES this recipe! It’s so fast and easy and always a hit!
Such a solid recipe. I’ve made it tons of times and it always hits the spot. The dill is the unique ingredient that sets it apart. I use chicken breasts (1-1.5 breasts is plenty) instead of bone-in.
I made this today for My Sister and it really is a great recipe. Really turned out good. I did cook the noodles separately though. Great recipe thank you for sharing with all of us. My Family loved it!!
My husband was sick and I decided to help him feel a little better by making him some chicken noodle soup. I found this recipe and it was a hit with the entire family!
Great recipe and really a nice one. Will surely try this
This is the best recipe. Instead of chicken broth I boil 8 cups of water and add 2 knorr chicken bouillon cubes. I also use orzo instead of egg noodles and YES don’t add the noodles to the soup! Cook them separate unless you want all your broth sucked up. DO NOT skip the fresh parsley, dill and lemon juice!!
This soup is legit. I told my husband we were having the leftovers tonight and he said “YES!! Oh my gosh I love that soup!”
So there you go! I did alter a few things because I am a mom and need fast meals. 1) I used dried herbs, 1 t. parsley and 1 t. dill, 2) I used thinly sliced boneless skinless chicken breasts and boiled for 20 mins, 3) I had to add extra broth before serving and tonight when I reheated.
It is indeed damn delicious!
This a very simple and yummy soup! I didn’t have fresh herbs, used Penzey’s Bouquet Garni instead. Also seasoned chicken before putting in pot to cook with Penzey’s Ruth Ann’s, then again after I cut it up to return to the pot. Served with Trader Joe’s cornbread.
Wonderful recipe, my family loved it! But I did it a little different with the chicken, since I can buy whole ones where I live. I’m not really a fan of skinless chicken breasts. I made my own stock and cut up the whole chicken into small pieces, with the skin, for more flavor.
Delicious! As an added touch, I sprinkled a good dose of Pecorino Romano cheese on the soup before voraciously consuming with a nice chunk of French bread!
Delicious recipe!! But question… the recipe says 8 cups of broth and the video showed 3 ???
This is absolutely the BEST Chicken Noodle Soup EVER!!!! I make a lot of soup, as I live in upstate NY. It’s April and still snowing. UGH!!! Anyway, I love this recipe and my husband said it is the BEST soup I have ever made!!! I was skeptical about the dill, but it really adds a great taste to the soup. I left out the parsley the 2nd time I made it though. Both times I I had to add more broth, probably because I had a little more chicken than the recipe called for. I used No Yokes Broad noodles too. This is the 3rd time making it. Thank you for such a yummy recipe and it is a keeper!!! Again, I love it!!
I live in Alaska and can’t always get bone in chicken breasts. But I did snag a whole fryer chicken at 50% off. I seasoned with salt pepper thyme and basil and used my air fryer. While that was cooking I used the gizzard, neck, and veggies to start a broth. Once done I added cooked chicken to the veggies and put the bones in the pot of broth simmering. Worked out well. I’ve never added dill or lemon before but that definitely makes a difference!!!! The whole family loved it and said it was the best soup ever. Thank you for your recipe!!!
Hello, your soup is super tasty… Thank you for posting this great recipe.
I make soup all the time. I even made this soup before and thought…meh what’s the big deal. However I did leave out the lemon and dill…big mistake!
I made it again using all of the ingredients….it was damn delicious for sure! My husband and son raved about it! Yum!
This is the first time I’ve made chicken noodle soup from scratch and will never go back to canned chicken noodle soup again.
I love homemade food and this is definitely a keeper. I added 2 cups more of broth and I didn’t have bone-in chicken breast so I sautéed my boneless, skinless chicken breast in a little olive oil with seasonings (including Slap Yo Mama) and as weird as this may seem I added a little chicken bouillon granules! Lol I also used Culinaria Homestyle Wide Noodles. Next time I’m using regular egg noodles to see the difference and amaze my family again! Lol. It was amazing and I’ve saved it to my ChefTap recipes as a favorite! Thank you for sharing this recipe.
This has been my families go to recipe. Kids love it. I put in carrots, celery, onion, turnip, parsnip, dill, parsley, garlic, half of stick of butter. 3 bone in chicken breast and 2 1/2 containers of organic chicken stock.
Some fine egg noodles. And we have a great meal.
This was delicious. It was very easy to make. The only issue I had was the noodles. It took much longer than stated. Worth it though. Oh & the dill, & fresh parsley made the meal. Don’t skip them! I’ll definitely be making this again.
Yes! So yum! And definitely kiddo approved. I doubled then recipe
So good! I added more lemon juice then the recipe required, but my family really likes to taste lemon in their soup. Turned out great my family loved it!
I love love love this recipe! I do make mine slightly different in that I typically make it with leftover rotisserie chicken (and don’t like dill, so I use other fresh herbs from my garden instead). Tonight I’m baking chicken thighs and will cut them up for the chicken. I find using pre-cooked chicken for this recipe is delicious and a nice use of leftovers!
I made this last week when I came down with a cold and all I can say is YUM! There is nothing like a delicious chicken soup when you are feeling sick. I added a lot more lemon cause I love lemon and this will be my go-to soup recipe.
OMG it turn out so great!!!
Made this with plant based chicken broth and added some veggie chicken at the end and it’s still super delicious as a vegan option if that’s your thing. 🙂
My husband is feeling ill and wanted soup for dinner so i looked up chicken noodle soup and looked around and a few different recipes and I am so glad I decided to go with this one. This recipe is so tasty! I altered it a little bit and I put about a tbsp of two of fresh cilantro, used more lemon juice, used chicken bone broth and chicken broth, egg pasta and used some chicken breasts instead of thighs and oh my goodness! I was skeptical about using the dill, but after reading the reviews I will definitely be using it next time! Thanks for the recipe!
My youngest daughter texted me to say she had a bad cold and generally not feeling well. So I started looking for tasty chicken soup recipes when I came across this recipe and decided to try it. Certainly glad I did so…it is delicious. The addition of fresh parsley , dill, and the lemon juice really gives the soup a great depth of flavor. I also added a little more lemon juice than the recipe indicated. I agree with the people who cooked the noodles separately which is what I did and added them to each individual serving as the noodles soak up much of the liquid. Next time I make the soup I think I will use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts as I prefer darker meat plus it has more flavor.
Easy to make. Delish.
Impressed with this soup. It will be saved in my list of go to soup recipes. Thank you for sharing this delicious soup recipe.
I love chicken soup with lemon. This is a great recipe although I did add a little more lemon juice. WOW THIS WAS A GOOD RECIPE!!!
It’s so damn good. I made it several times. Even my husband who is not soup lover loves it. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! I took a rotissre chicken and made the home made broth the day before… still had to mix a but of Swanson chicken stock but the flavor of this soup is unparalel to anything i have ever made or tasted! I don’t even know what to say! I used the homemade broth with whole grain egg noodles… and WOW! Kudos to the recipe creator!
Does anything need to be adjusted if I want to make this without veggies??
love this recipe! very delicious
This soup is not only easy to make for a crowd but is very good. I used skinless chicken breast and bone in chicken thigh, removing the bone after cooking. Letting the chicken rest then shredding the chicken breast and removing the thigh bome before adding it back to pot gave the soup added depth of flavor. Be careful when adding the noodles since they expand in the broth. I also let the soup cool quickly in an ice bath before storing it in in the fridge. This soup is a winner!
I’m in love with this soup!
Made the soup for the fourth time. Very easy recipe and definitely great for these flu days. Thank you again for the recipe. How many calories are in the soup, if you know?
If you download a free calorie counter app and weigh everything by grams you can find out how much a serving is and how much it is altogether
Easy and very tasty. I will definitely be making this recipe again.
This is the best chicken soup I have ever made!
It is simply delicious and heathy! SO FRESH!!
Thank You!!
Great ! Recipes
So easy and so, so tasty! This will definitely be my go-to!
Great recipe
Great recipe ! I used your base recipe and added my flavor! Your recipe is fab! We all need some comfort food now. Thank you!
Delicious as written. Substituted leftover, shredded smoked chicken breasts which sped up the cooking time and a great addition to the flavor profile.
Amazing soup and so easy. I will never go back to canned.
Don’t substitute the egg noodles with regular pasta – I made that mistake the first time I made this. It’s still okay, but not nearly as good. The pasta soaks up too much broth and is just a little too thick.
Awesome recipe! Full of flavor. Added my spin and replaced the breast with thighs.. Very easy to make for any novice, and a must for all of the aficionados.
Delicious. I saw all of the great reviews and had to try. This soup did not disappoint. Such a great meal for a cold winter day!
This recipe is incredible. It’s classic, simple, and super flavorful. When my immune system is feeling low, I’ll make this soup and add heaps of garlic, ginger, and turmeric. Food = medicine <3
(I also find that thyme & rosemary add a nice earthiness to this dish)
We love soup, I make it all year round. I wanted to try something different, this recipe is very close to what I normally do. Except the lemon, so tossed that in. We are not fond of dill, so I threw in turmeric, ginger, thyme and a bit of rosemary. Delicious
Thank you!
Oh wow, I was not expecting to love this as much, but dang! It is tasty! My husband even said it was so good that he couldn’t stop eating it, and really praised the flavor. He also said “We should eat this more often”, a good indicator that this recipe is amazing!
Yummy I absolutely loved it and my husband did too I thickened the liquid tho
This is awesome! I’m determined to lose some weight, so I left out the noodles. I put all the herbs and spices in at the beginning, as well as the lemon juice, so that all the flavors could simmer together. The flavor is absolutely delightful!! Definitely a keeper.
I loved it
This soup had such a great flavor! We didn’t have bone in breasts, so I opted for boneless, and I shredded them instead of cutting them. It turned out great! The only issue I had was with the noodles sucking up all the broth. Next time, I’ll cook them on the side and add them to our bowls instead of leaving them in the soup. I just have one question. Would I be able to make this recipe in the crock pot? We’re always short on time for dinner, and that would be a life saver!!
Literally the best chicken noodle
soup I’ve ever had. And I love how big of a batch it makes! The lemon is a must.
Made this without lemon, it hit the spot on a cold winter day, especially with sick kids !!
Does anyone know if I should cook the noodles first and then add to the soup?
This is a great recipe! I make my noodles separately then add the desired amount per bowl. This allows the noodles to maintain a better texture and not get too soggy. I normally reheat the noodles slightly in the microwave before adding the soup.
I always make the noodle’s separately. The noodles won’t get soggy and the soup stays unstarchy. It also allows you to have the amount of noodles you prefer. I will only add around 6 to mine but some like a whole bowl full. I also add a bag of mixed frozen vegetables. My kids love it!
Love this soup! Made it several times, easy to make and so tasty. My family can’t get enough. I’ve also made it using turkey and it’s just as good. Thanks for posting your recipe.
Our family has been hit hard with sickness this week. I made a big batch of this soup, and everyone loves it (even a couple of the picky ones). It is so hearty and so delicious! It’s especially good with fresh rolls or French bread on the side. Yum!
WOW, this soup was SO good!! It reminded me of my favorite chicken soup from whole foods. Anytime I’ve tried to make chicken noodle soup at home it has turned out bland, but I followed this recipe as written and it was just perfect! I love all your recipes Chungah, you have really transformed my cooking…thank you!
We made this for dinner an everyone loved it.
This was really, really good…the dill makes it extra yummy. The only change I made was 1 cup less noodles and added about 1/4 tsp salt. Love all your recipes
Very excellent recipe. I dont know if anyone else said this yet but what i did for kids friendly version is i strained the vegetables out mixed in one cup of chicken broth and immersion blend it. Then i added back to the noodles and chicken. Makes a very good smooth broth.
Yummy! I added a few potatoes and some spinach…great recipe!
A staple in our household–love the fresh dill!!!
Im planning on making this today but with chicken thighs and I’ll tell you why.. using the leg meat is what makes a sick person better faster because of the marrow a chef once told me. Also instead of dill or lemon juice add a 1/4 cup of white vinegar. It cleans out the system faster. I’m awaiting my covid test tomorrow..Ugh!! I’ll let you know how my soup turns out! Thanks for the recipe!
Absolutely delicious! I added just a pinch of powdered chicken bullion for a little more flavor. My family did not complain at all. Directions were easy to follow and it turned out great. Really a good, hearty bowl of soup. Thank you.
Definitely a valid recipe and would highly recommend but as other comments listed it just needed a lil extra salt but leave that to the person eating the bowl of soup to add salt or not so Definitely 2 thumbs up from me…..
Everyone loved it!! My husband is a picky eater and wants me to make this again. I subbed the egg noodles for fettuccine noodles since my youngest is allergic to eggs & used chicken thighs!! This is a new staple for our household!
This is an awesome recipe! Great flavor with the lemon, bay leaf and fresh dill! All it needed was a little extra salt…even though we all should cut back on salt! Oh well! Sure was goooooood! Thank you!
OMG this is the best chicken noodle soup ever. This will become my favorite recipe to fix.
Loved this recipe and I used Germany Spaetzle noodles. Very easy to prepare! I added extra carrots and a bit of green onion and both chicken breast and thighs.
i think this recipe is on point. I like a lot of flavor in my soup so i added a bit of tumeric and it was fantastic.
This recipe is AMAZING! It was very simple to make, and extremely tasty. My family enjoyed it. Will definitely make again.
Making this today….do you leave the parm rind in if you’re simmering for several hours? It’s smelling amazing!
Well this is perfect! I’ve just made this on a rainy Saturday and it’s exactly what we all needed.
I don’t even eat chicken but it doesn’t matter. This soup is delicious and I will be making it again.
So good, we’ve already made it twice this week! Question: can you freeze it?
Will 10/10 make again!!!! Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Quite yummy and so simple. Great for a cold winter evening.
Love this recipe! I’m a firm believer that noodle soup cures all, and even though my store was out of bone in chicken, this recipe worked fabulously with bone in turkey!
this is a really good soup everyone should try this especially since it is winter
So yummy! This soup turned out incredible. Definitely one of the best soups I’ve ever made.
I made it for my family and shared with my neighbor. Very good thank you I will make this again
This soup is so amazing and easy. The lemon really gives it flavor that takes it over the top. SO GOOD! YUM, get in my belly!
First time making this classic and loved this simple recipe with fresh herbs. I modified it with chicken bone broth and added more carrots and celery. I also like it spicy and am a Pho-fan so I doubled the garlic and added equal amount of peeled diced fresh ginger root upon sautéeing and then minced fresh seeded jalapeños upon serving.
It’s a hit! Will make again!

The best chicken noodle soup ever! Everyone asks me to make this for them. I do a vegetarian version as well with Quorn “chicken” pieces and vegetable broth. The dill, parsley, and lemon juice creates an incredible taste. I end up adding more carrots, celery, and broth.
Excellent recipe !!! Everyone whom has it loved it !! i add Reames egg noodles in frozen section and cook in broth for 20 mins , add carrot greens and Italian parsley at end with the lemon and delic! Cooking from the soul Yvette
Amazing chicken noodle soup. I made this when most of our family was sick and it made up all feel better. I personally use beef or chicken bouillon when I don’t have stock and its still good. I like to add extra carrots since boiled carrots is my thing. One last tip making your own broth is best.
My go to chicken noodle soup recipe. Super easy and tasty. I leave out the dill, and use boneless chicken breast. I just dice it up and let it cook in the broth, takes less time. I also cook the noodles separately because there’s always extra and they start to disintegrate after the first day.
P.S. the soup is the tastiest after day 3 or so!
This was a great recipe. I added thyme, rosemary, and some poultry seasoning. I too used chicken thighs. My family said I should put this in a jar and sell it..lol. PS. Jiffy cornbread pairs nicely for a wholesome meal.
Added some frozen peas- great flavor and so easy to make! Thanks for the recipe
This was really amazing! Added red potatoes, a bell pepper for some vitamin c, and vermicelli noodles and subbed chicken thighs for breast’s. Seriously delicious!
This soup recipe is definitely a keeper! Best chicken noodle soup and, it’s super quick to make. Warms your soul on a cold day
This is the third recipe I have made from your site, everything has been awesome! My picky wife says this was his favorite so far I didn’t have any chicken breasts so I used chicken tenders instead. So good! I am recommending your site to my WP group!!
Glad this made you happy!!!
My go-to chicken noodle soup recipe! So flavorful – making for my family Christmas Eve gathering. Follow recipe – nothing to change. Make sure to add the lemon at the end – makes it really nice and bright.
I left the onion out (have a picky eater) used thigh instead of breast otherwise followed to a T. Turned out great. I’ve had it with the onion as well both versions are delicious!
If using low sodium chicken broth or stock like we do this can be rather bland. I highly recommend the lemon juice in place of adding extra salt, and we added grated ginger. It was delicious!! I wish I’d had the fresh herbs on hand instead of dried.
So easy and simple, yet flavorful! I used chicken breast without the bone and just took it out on the earlier side. Also I like to add chopped rosemary and big chunks of fresh ginger to season the broth.
Very good recipe! So easy and simple, yet flavorful! I used chicken breast without the bone and just took it out on the earlier side. Also I like to add chopped rosemary and big chunks of fresh ginger to season the broth.
My favorite recipe for chicken noodle soup. Absolutely delicious. I just add more noodles.
Absolutely delicious! No changes made! The fresh herbs really bring it to the next level. Everyone loved it!!
Didn’t change a thing. This is the best chicken noodle soup I’ve had in a long time and it couldn’t have been easier. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe!
This recipe is EVERYTHING I could have asked for. Full of flavor, and easy to throw together! Thank you for this!
I used a rotisserie chicken, so just added it with a couple minutes left for the pasta to finish. This is a great cold weather recipe!
Offered to make soup for a friend having surgery. I followed to a T. I was about to add chicken and noodles when I realized the veggies were over cooked. I’ve taken them out with a strainer and will probably add some fresh? No one else put this in their comments. I even cooked chicken less? The broth is delicious as I added my turkey broth from Thanksgiving. I don’t want to ruin with mushy veggies.
Wow, best flavor I’ve ever tasted in chicken noodle soup. As stated in recipe Bone in chicken breast a must! Thank you for this recipe. I can always count on your content!
Absolutely love this recipe. I have made this A LOT! Usually I double the recipe; it makes 7.5 quarts that way. Plenty to enjoy and give away. I only make two small changes: I use boneless, skinless chicken thighs and chicken bone broth (I find both to be more naturally flavorful. The bone broth has substantially more salt in it though, so I cut back on what I add). It keeps well in the fridge for several days. Make this! It’s savory and lovely every single time.
JUST WHAT I NEEDED! To speed things up since I’m sick, I shredded a rotisserie chicken from the store, cut down on the boiling time since chicken was pre-cooked, used a single (12 oz?) bag of frozen mirepoix instead of fresh veggies, used water + bouillon in place of the broth, used dried dill weed and dried parsley (2 tsp each), and this warmed my heart and belly. SO GOOD. And I hate dill pickles, but the dill in here added a really nice flavor! This recipe is a keeper.
Delicious. Used no salt added chicken broth, then salt to taste. Dill and lemon was great addition. Will make bigger batch next time.
I just use better than bouillon in the water, no salt needed 🙂
Thank you so much, had to make it for my head cold. Doesn’t even need the noodles!
John 3:16
Good soup, but I had to add some thyme.
This was delicious I hope you don’t mind if I share what I added!
I sautéed the seasonings with the butter!
One clove
1/4 teaspoon of turmeric
A a couple pinches of dried chives
A dash of powdered sage
a pinch of Oregano
Italian seasoning to taste
I didn’t use dill!
Followed the directions to a T! My hubby and I LOVE this recipe. The fresh parsley and dill really make a difference. I highly recommend adding a little cayenne at the end for an extra “kick!”
That really was “Damn Delicious”!!! My wife said it was the best chicken soup she’s ever had (she loves chicken soup), and I have to agree. I used a combination of bone-in thighs and boneless breast, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. Great recipe!
Wow! This was the best homemade chicken noodle soup I have ever tasted and made.
So clean and flavorful! A 10 in our house and will be my go to.
Thank you for sharing.
Just finished having this soup as a light dinner. This is the BEST chicken soup recipe I’ve ever made!! Great combo of seasonings. Everyone in my family has finally agreed on a recipe being great, to keep, and make again. This is a keeper and the only recipe for chicken soup I’ll be making from now on. I’ve definitely found a new recipe website and it will now be my “go to” from now on. Thanks!!
Very easy to make and tasted great!
I have made this recipe several times and I have gotten rave reviews every time I’ve made this. I will admit that I don’t usually add the lemon or the dill and this is probably a mistake, but I still love it. A couple of times I’ve used cheese tortellini instead of the egg noodles and that’s been tasty as well. Highly recommend this recipe.
Made it with leftover smoked turkey and substituted chicken base for the salt. The dill and lemon juice add a very nice touch. It was delicious and I definitely will make it again.
Followed this to a T and it was delicious and comforting, a big hit with the family. One thing I will do differently is to cook the noodles separately so they don’t soak up the soup broth as much and we can have leftovers.
I so agree with you about the noodles soaking up all the juice. This happens with all recipes I’ve made w noodles
I found that the first time I made this recipe also. I altered it my second time making it and added 2 extra cups of broth and a little extra dill and lemon juice to compensate for the broth that the noodles absorbed. Turned out fantastic, same great flavour with a little more soup
Excellent soup just the way it is posted! Dill and parsley give it the little extra to make it even yummier. Everyone loved it…will be our new go to recipe for chicken noodle!
Wow! I am so sick and all I’ve wanted is chicken noodle soup. This recipe is delicious! I added some crushed red pepper flakes but otherwise followed it exactly and I’m so happy I did. The lemon! The dill! So good.
So Amazing!! I made this for my entire family, and you can even make it with rice for friends/family with gluten allergies! I made it with the pasta on the side and doubled the veggies since carbs fill my husband up, but the flavors together were amazing!! Will definitely make this again!!
Very good made it straight from directions. Need nutrition information though.
What kind of chicken stock do you use?
Delicious!!! Thank you! I substituted pasta for egg noodles, and used boneless chicken breast and shredded it instead of cubed but it worked out beautifully!
Family loved it, thanks a million. Only thing I messed up on which didn’t seem to hinder anything is I cut the chicken and placed it with all the savory ingredients for about 35 minutes then added the noodles for about 7 minutes then added the lemon juice, parsley, and dill.
I’ve made this before and it’s absolutely THEE best!!! The bone-in chicken breasts make a big difference!!! My adult son (special needs) said, “Mom, you’re not even sick!” And I replied, “I know, but it’s just such the best comfort food when the days get shorter and the nights get chillier!” I’m currently using Noom now, though, and curious about the nutritional values (i.e. calories, fat, sodium, carbs, etc.)
Fabulous. Wasn’t excited about the dill when I read the recipe, but decided to make as directed at least the first time. Totally love the flavors. My husband loved the leftovers; said the flavors were richer. This recipe is a Keeper!
This is the best chicken soup I have ever had! I have struggled for years to make the “perfect” chicken noodle soup and this recipe is the Perfect soup. Thank you!
How are the leftovers the next day? Should I keep the noodles separate if I anticipate leftovers?
My changes as followed – a good Greek olive oil instead of butter, dry dill and parsley because I didn’t have fresh and hiloptes ( small Greek pasta squares) instead of long noodles. I cut up the chicken breast so the soup wouldn’t take too long to cook. All turned out awesomely and glad you posted it… thank you
I am not a fan of dill, so I cut that out, and the lemon juice as I felt it countered the dill flavor so it wasn’t very needed. I used better than bullion broth and made 12 cups so I had more broth. I cut out the bone in breast, cubed up boneless skinless. Flavor wise I went with more I add a few more veggies, and used and homemade compound butter to soften my onion…. This soup truly was delicious even with all my own twist. Great for my COVID sick hubby.
Yum!! Do all chicken soups have lemon juice and dill?! Wow, those two flavors make the soup delicious!! Definitely a keeper… now I hope my family loves it as much as me.
I made this recipe- superb!!
Great recipe. I tweaked it a little by doing a half recipe and by using thighs instead of breasts and a little more or a little less of the seasonings but stayed close enough to the original recipe and it was awesome. The pot was devoured. I’ll make this again and again.
Thanks for sharing this recipe.
What a wonderful soup! Thank you!
I really enjoyed this soup. Only thing I did differently was substitute the chicken breasts with leftover rotisserie chicken pieces….delicious
Umm ummm GOOD, oh and DAMN DELICIOUS!
Just a question…
I’d like to make this ahead of time as a drop off dinner for a friends. Would you not add the noodles as I cook it bc they’ll absorb too much liquid as it sits?
Thanks!
Simple to make, quick, and the best Chicken Soup I have ever made. My wife said I better not forget how to make this. I did add more carrots and two small zucchini.
Thank you for making me look good.
Very tasty soup.
Absolutely delicious. Easy to make. I added extra 32 oz of chicken broth as I like a soup with more broth. I also added lemon zest with the lemon juice, as well as splash of Marsala.
I have never used chicken broth to make home made chicken soup. I feel it defeats the purpose of home made. Has anyone just used water in place of broth?
You will not get a very flavourful soup using only water in this recipe. Then you will have to add bouillon cubes anyway to add some flavour. If you have ever poached chicken and then tasted the cooking water, you will find it is practically tasteless. Easier and much better o make this recipe as written.
I make broth from a whole chickens bones in my pressure cooker. Doing it this way you won’t need to use bullion. Plus you can use the meat from the chicken in your soup. It is more work but it’s worth it.
I use just water because I don’t like the flavor of chicken stock and it turns out just great.
Instead of using chicken breast with bone in, I use two chicken drumsticks with bone in instead. That adds all the chicken flavor.
I simmer celery, carrots, onion and once those are simmered I add in two chicken drumsticks, cover with water and add in two bay leaves.
I also want to add that for flavoring I add a generous amount black pepper and some salt to the veggies while simmering.
I’ve never cooked a chicken noodle soup that anyone wanted to eat. I finally learned how to make a super tasty one that’s quick and easy. Thank you!
My mother and me got really sick. I was tired of eating canned soup and looked up easy homemade chicken soup. Came across this recipe and knew I had to make it! The food was really good!! For the soup base I did tweak it a bit by adding chicken stock and bone broth. After letting the chicken cook I notice the soup went down a bit so my mother added another chicken broth. The recipe is good for a family of 6-8
Made a few changes cause of preference and misreading lol but overall the recipe is delicious! I accidentally used salted butter and I replaced the chicken breasts with thighs. I thought it said boneless skinless so next time I will try with bone for the extra flavor. Also did not use dill and used herbs de Provence spice. Great recipe and not super hard either !
Delicious & easy
One of the best simplest bone in chicken noodle soup recipes ever. Delicious
Damn Delicious does it again!! I first became a follower a few years ago when I was looking for a lo mein recipe. I love the recipes because they are simple and you can change to your needs! I don’t like dill so used parsley and thyme like others have recommended. I made a smaller batch and it still came out great! Only thing is I wish I would have put a little less salt in the beginning since the broth has it. Used a combo of bone broth and regular broth don’t know if that makes a difference.
And easy soup to make. Turned out good. Next time I’ll cut down or leave out on the fresh dill and add Italian herbs. The dill is pretty strong and adds a unique flavor some may (or may not ) care for. Overall 4 stars.
Delicious soup. I made it exactly according to the recipe. So good! Thank you.
Delicious recipe!! We added an extra 4 cups of stock for a brothier base. Also used skinless boneless thighs (subbed in 32oz bone broth) which is juicer and doesn’t dry out like chicken breast can. Amazing soup:)
This chicken soup is amazing! When I roast a chicken, I use every bit, including making bone broth from the carcass. I then use that broth as the base for this soup. I also use fresh rosemary from my garden instead of dill. Always a winner, even here in Florida! My elderly neighbors love it.
I use a rotisserie roasted chicken from the store. How do you make your broth? Do you do it separately and then add it in, or all together?
This is my new go-to chicken soup recipe. So simple and delicious. The whole family loved it, even my picky 8yo! Thank you.
Could you make this into a freezer meal?
This should freeze just fine EXCEPT I would leave out the noodles as they will absorb too much liquid and get gummy if sitting in the broth too long. So make the recipe minus the noodles, freeze it, and add cooked noodles just before serving. Learned that from my Italian friend.
Amazing! Best chicken soup I’ve ever had. I used leftover rotisserie chicken but otherwise I followed the recipe and it came out perfect. It had a wonderful depth of flavor, very satisfying.
Do not skip using bone in chicken breast and swap for rotisserie chicken, this is what sets this recipe apart IMO and I don’t think I can go back to pre cooked chicken after this. My only recommendation is to use a half bag of egg noodles (6oz dry) because they will absorb all that precious broth and you’ll end up with a stew instead of a soup!
Quick tip for lazy people like me: I used already cooked/canned chicken (2 12.5 cans), bouillon cubes to make the broth, dried parsley/dill (used 1/3 of what it called for fresh) and dried bay leaves. I cooked the veggies (using a tsp of celery salt since I didn’t have celery) then basically dumped in everything else except noodles, simmered for like 15 minutes, added noodles and simmered for another 10 and called it good. Very tasty and super easy (if you cheat like I did).
I was looking for the dried substitutes. Thanks for sharing!!!!
So this soup is so good! I only had dried parsley (2tsp) and dill weed (1 1/2tsp). And I was so excited to eat it that I forgot to add the lemon juice. I also added about 4oz of diced fresh spinach when I added the garlic. But I’m sure this would’ve been just as delicious if I would’ve followed it to a T. I will be making this again FOR SURE! Maybe tomorrow! Ha!
This is wonderful. Will make again
Does this freeze well?
Thanks
This was delicious. Loved the dill and lemon!
Thanks for the recipe! I followed the instructions except I added fresh thyme and added some dry basil & oregano. I also didn’t add the dill or lemon. But the soup tasted really good – hubby love it!! Thanks again for the simple instructions- it turned amazing!! ☺️
I’ve made this recipe several times and it always turned out delicious .
So yummy!!!! The whole family loved it (teens & toddlers included)!!!
This soup was delicious and easy to make for my sick husband! I subbed fresh rosemary for the dill since I had it on hand and added a little fresh ginger. Definitely a keeper. Thanks!!
Excellent. Used rotisserie chicken and threw it in when I cooked the noodles. Also added spinach. Will definitely make this again. The fresh lemon is so tasty.
i love you page. I just stumbled here and i loveeee it
I made this tonight and it was very good! I loved the additional dill flavour. Added some spinach to extra healthy kick.
Delicious! I skipped the dill as I just don’t care for it. Used everything else as called for. Will definitely make more of this and freeze to have on hand for those cold winter days!
I was looking for a good chicken soup recipe, decided to roll with this one give the good reviews and it’s was absolutely delicious!! I used Orzo noodles as my choice. This is definitely a keeper.
thanks for your help
Hello! I’m about to make this but I would like to use a Rotisserie chicken instead. What modifications would I do for that? Thank you!
That was some good chicken noodle soup. I like this recipe, I could’ve gone without the dill though, it was slightly overpowering. But I still liked it a lot
So delicious!! Definitely will make again.
Hubby has had a head cold the last few days. Stumbled upon this recipe. Made with ingredients as called for and this was delicious !
Delicious! I added one additional carrot, celery, and garlic clove. I also used rotisserie chicken.
On my second bowl as I write this review and I must say OMG IM IN LOVE. I’ve been looking for a chicken noodle soup recipe for the longest and I’ve found it. Tried a different one before this couple months back.followed the recipe to a T. All the reviews raved about it but after making it it just seemed bland like it was missing something. Found this recipe and followed all the directions and didn’t substitute anything. When I tell you that I’m on my second bowl I’m on my second bowl. It’s soooo flavorful tasty yummy amazing. This deserves an award. Everyone who hasn’t came across this recipe is absolutely missing out. I can’t see myself making this any other way now and the lemon? Why did I never think about that before. Everyone just works so well together but to give it a bit of spiciness after I added some homemade habanero hot sauce in my bowl and mmmm. Just amazing. Definitely a winner
Made this today & it was wonderful. I added less dill, after reading reviews but will add the full amount next time. Everyone loved it. Thank you for sharing.
I’m making this for the 2nd time in a week, my daughter can’t get enough of it. The lemon and fresh herbs add a nice, bright taste and it’s so easy to make.
This was soooooo good! I added leeks in mine and used parsley, cilantro, and green onions as the herbs (the green onions added as a garnish at the end). I made homemade biscuits with this soup and it was amazing! It’s going in my recipe tin and is now my go-to soup!
I agree with many reviews, easy & delicious! Added fresh herbs & lemon juice sets this recipe apart! Thank you!!
Best chicken noodle soup I’ve ever had! I’ve delivered it to all my friends and their families that have come down with COVID and they all rave about it as well. The dill is such an unusual add but makes it!
This was an easy recipe and turned out Delicious!! The fresh dill and touch of Lemon were super nice! Will definitely make again!
I love this recipe! The fresh herbs bring it to a new level without adding anything artificial. I made this once before, and decided to double it this time because I never got tired of it. Looking forward to eating this for weeks to come out of my freezer. Thanks so much for this great recipe 🙂
Absolutely delicious. The twist with the basil, lemon, parsley and I used tarragon. My new favorite
Awesome flavor and one of the best comfort foods. Well done!
Yum! Feel so good after having this when I’m sick! I fried the onions with a little garlic and ginger paste in the beginning – does wonders to the flavor! Also added 2 cubes of chicken bullion.
I’m currently making this and I used ginger as well. I also used some of a jar of better than bouillon as I didn’t have stock on hand. I added a bit of turmeric as well.
how do i convert this recipe for a slow cooker crock pot?
Oh, that’s easy, just throw it in the trash.
Forgot to mention in my initial review that I also made this in my slow cooker instead on the stovetop. You just make it the same way as you would if you were cooking it on the stove. Use either this simmer or soup setting. Perfection
I am also interested in IP and/or croak pot recipes as I see some others are.
Thank you as it looks mouth watering
So easy to follow recipe. Worth the time preparing . Absolutely delicious. Enjoy
Not a review but a question: Is there an Instant Pot version for this recipe?
The addition of lemon and dill takes this from good to great! I also love that it’s one pot.
Ms. Chungah, can I make this chicken soup in my crockpot? By the way thank you for your great recipes.
Hi, I made this as written it’s delicious except I always have a hard time with sticky noodles if I don’t make them separately. Is there something I should be doing so this doesn’t happen?
Thank you
Made this soup today since I’m not feeling well. Only change I made was to tie several swigs of thyme and drop them in the pot. Omitted dill.Oh my goodness, this recipe is so good! Five star ***** winner for me!
It is AMAZING! It has its own flavor or dill, lemony. It has its “Zing” if that’s what you’re looking for. And it is easy enough for me, a 12 year old, and my family loves it! Tho I added some chicken stock for extra flavor. Definitely try it!
Have chicken soup on the stove now-will add lemon and dill as suggested.
If you wrap celery in aluminum foil so it is air tight it will last for a month or so, maybe longer.
Thanks for the great tip!
this is the recipe brandon farris used in his video!! sure its delicious.
Absolutely delicious. This recipe is a definite keeper. Taking some to a friend who is ill. Thank you!
This is so delicious and ready in under an hour!!it’s so nice not do deal with a whole raw chicken too. The lemon juice is perfect and brings out all the flavors!! Thanks so much!!
I’ve made this a couple times for my family & they all loved it! The fresh dill adds just the right touch. My husband is Jewish so I left out the noodles once & served it with matzo balls! Equally yummy. Thanks for posting!
Really simple, delicious recipe! My grocery store didn’t have bone-in breasts so I used boneless skinless but it was still great. We had a chilly and rainy day today and the soup made a perfect, filling meal.
Awesome recipe. I added half a can of grilled tomatoes a tablespoon of black pepper and a quick splash of lemon juice and it turned out amazing and kinda peppery-the way I like it. Full of flavor and if you want to fish for the contents of your soup when serving it in a bowl double the recipe on everything but the celery, onion and carrots.
Delicious!!!!! Absolutely delicious.
BEST CHICKEN SOUP THAT I HAVE EVER MADE…DELICIOUS !!!!!!
Definitely an interesting recipe with the dill and lemon addition. I found it to be kind of bland. I wish I had added more herbs like thyme. It really needed more depth in flavor. Overall, not a bad recipe though.
Is it 8 or 3 cups chicken stock? Recipe says 8, video says 3.
this is so good! i just made it and made my own adjustments. thank you for never failing me
Lemon juice makes such a wonderful difference!
I use the “Amish made” or home style noodles that I buy at the grocery store. This makes truly just like grandma made!
Of course it took me most of the morning to make. I am slow in a w/c.
Used up all my celery and carrots wilting in the crisper drawer.
My broth had mustard seeds too.
Boiled the bones of a rotisserie bird. But made the soup with the meat of thighs baked in oven. Left the soup concentrated so I will add water and my Amish egg noodles when I thaw and heat up. As I saw others did not add the noodles till later. Do not have lemons, but I have red wine vinegar. It is the same price as salid dressing but taste better!
Nice ideas. This seems like the perfect basic Chicken Soup Recipe to use as is or build on. I’m prejudiced against chicken breasts and envisioned using either bone-in thighs or a rotisserie…Anybody try that?
I started with this recipe, but added chopped yellow onion and diced zucchini. I do my chicken different because when I make stock, I throw in all of my veggie scraps I save from previous recipes, add rosemary, sage and 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, then strain them out and add them to my compost. So, it takes a little longer but, oh! So yummy!
Thanks. I like the rosemary (gracias, Simon and Garfunkel) and zucchini is great in soup. Do you save it and just add it to each serving as you heat it (presuming you’re freezing leftovers)?
My review is late as I cooked this #damndelicious soup around Christmas for a dear friend who had just lost her wife. COVID prevented me from being as physically present as I would have liked, so I wanted to prepare something delicious that would last a while so she wouldn’t have to cook, something comforting that freezes and reheats well and something that would, hopefully, bring a smile. The recipe did not disappoint. De-li-cious! I’m making a pot for myself today.
Do not skip the parsley, dill, and lemon juice. They really brighten the whole pot and take it “next level”.
This recipe is really good! I just added extra celery and carrots, and used boneless chicken breast and it still came out really good!
This is a really good recipe! I used much more carrots and celery, as well as chicken breast and it came out perfect!
Amazing! I used chicken thighs and olive oil instead of butter and orrzo pasta. I mean this has to be my favorite soup though! Thank you!
yummy in my tummy
This recipe was awesome. I did tweak it a bit. I browned the chicken in the butter with the garlic. But other than this I followed it. Came out amazing.
The best chicken soup ever!!!!
This was phenomenal. It’s difficult to describe how the flavors meld, but I’ve made a zillion chicken noodle soups, and this is the only recipe I will ever use again. Incredible. Made it exactly as directed. Thank you!
This is truly the best chicken soup recipe ever! Only changes we made included using Rotisserie chicken and orzo since that is what we had in the pantry. It turned out amazing. It was rich and velvety. The fresh herbs and squeeze of lemon really brought the whole thing together.
The chicken noodle soup turned out great, this is an excellent recipe and the chicken! It’s a thick, rich, and tasty soup. I will definitely make it again, I might add an extra cup of broth.
Thank you, awesome recipe!!!
I have made this three times now. It is the simplest recipe and the flavor is outstanding. I used a store bought rotisserie chicken each time and included the fat. Don’t skimp on the dill and lemon. Adds flavor and brightness. Thank you!
This truly is the best chicken noodle soup I’ve ever had. Followed the recipe almost exactly, except used boneless skinless breast as I could not fine bone in skinless. Amazing! Very flavorful. Could not wait to eat leftovers for lunch the next day.
Delicious and not boring at all! If you’re looking for steamy, rich, and sensually different, this is it. On top of the rich, traditional flavors of grandma’s chicken soup, fresh dill and squeezed lemon add sparkling notes of freshness to the comfort of homemade goodness. I followed the recipe fairly closely, but making a slurry of the juice half a lemon, and the freshly chopped dill, and the parsley. After the noodles were just past al dente, I stirred in the slurry in increments until the tartness spiked. This is an eye opening soup. Seconds will definitely be served.
Family approved. Look no further. Best chicken noodle soup!
Tried it. Based on recommendations here added a few extra carrots and small amount of heavy cream. Excellent flavor and not too heavy and not too light – just right!
This was so yummy! I made this recipe for my family, but I made a few modifications like the other commenters. I seared the chicken with butter while the veggies sauteed. I added more carrots and celery than the recipe called for. I only used half of an onion. I used 3 “Knorr Cube Bouillon Chicken” with 8 cups of water. I didn’t have bone-in chicken, so I used bone-free chicken breasts – I used about a pound. I used 1/2 a tablespoon of parsley, 1/2 teaspoon of oregano thyme. No dill. I also shredded the chicken.
The soup is very good ,I just thought the addition of dill was overpowering and will omit it next time
Second time I’ve made it. Once using chicken the other time I made it Vegan using plant based chicken. This Soup is Awesome! Damn Delicious !!! My Favorite recipe. Simple & soo Flavorful!!
First time ever making chicken noodle soup from scratch. I thought it was a lot more difficult to make! This soup was really good! Filling and tasty—my husband had two servings! I mistakenly bought boneless chicken breasts, but it came out fine. I seared the breasts in a little olive oil and sprinkled them with poultry seasoning before sautéing the veggies. I doubled the celery and carrot amounts, and used more noodles to make it more hearty. I skipped the dill; added prob a teaspoon each of thyme and oregano when I added the noodles. I used reduced sodium Swanson chicken broth as I didn’t have homemade stock. Served the soup with Red Lobster cheddar biscuits. YUM!! It turned out very well. Will definitely make this again!!
Made the chicken noodle soup, it was delicious will not use the dill again. The dill overpowers the dish. Great without it. Thanks for the recipe. Will use again wi8 the dill.
I confess that I doubted you at the sound of lemon juice, but went through with it because you haven’t steered me wrong.
ZOMG!!!!
My family loved it and now I wish I made it with more stock.
The soup is very good ,I just thought the addition of dill was overpowering and will omit it next time.
Great recipe, followed to a T and is a keeper. Thanks
I made this with just a few minor tweaks and it turned out fantastic. I subbed half of the butter for bacon grease. I doubled the amount of carrots just because I like them. For the chicken, I used leftover Dijon roasted boneless skinless thighs. I skipped the dill because of dietary issues with it. I added and extra half cup of noodles because I hoped my toddler would eat the noodles. I finished off-heat with just a sploosh of heavy cream to give it a bump of richness. Served alongside biscuits and it was just amazing. Thanks!
My boyfriend has Meniere’s Disease, and he’s got a cold. Store-bought chicken noodle soup has too much sodium, which can trigger his symptoms. I chose this recipe because of all the fresh herbs and the bone-in chicken. It turned out great! I used unsalted stock so I could control the sodium levels. Please take the advice of other commenters and add as much ginger as garlic (1 1/2 tsp) because it adds wonderful warm heat. I don’t associate dill with chicken soup so used more thyme than dill, and also added two crushed sage leaves to impart more flavor. Served with warm crusty sourdough bread, this was wonderful. Thank you for a great recipe!
VERY TASTY!! NICE & HEARTY!!!
LOVE this soup. I used chicken thighs, other than that my family loved this! With the egg noodles & sour dough bread it’s definitely a winner!
I’ve made this recipe several times and my family adores it. I often make two chickens and use the breast meat for one meal, then make stock out of the rest. This is a great way to use that stock and an alternative when I don’t have any. The whole thing is perfect. My kids froze some dill they grew over the summer so I can get that fresh dill any time. The lemon cuts through the “thickness” of a homemade stock.
This simmering on the stove and it smells wonderful. Luckily we made a stock last night from chicken carcass so it will be extra tasty in this soup. Question though…if not serving immediately, do I still add the dill, parsley and lemon?
Giving it 4 starts since I haven’t tried it yet. 🙂
I made this yesterday to get rid of a few extra vegetables in the fridge. I used what I had at the house, so some of the ingredients got modified… I must say, even cold, this soup was truly amazing!
Our local Walmart clearances unsold rotisserie chickens, so I use these as a way to always have chicken on hand and make extra chicken stock. I substituted the frozen diced rotisserie meat, and used the four cups of frozen stock I had. I had two cups of chicken broth left from another recipe, so I added that with two cups water and threw in two chicken buillion cubes. I also swapped out fresh herbs for their dried counterparts.
This was so easy, and tasted like I was in the kitchen all day. My children raved. This one’s a keeper for sure! Thank you—yum!
Stumbled upon this website the other day while googling chicken soup recipes. This was the best homemade chicken noodle soup I’ve ever had, and it was so simple and easy to make! I did omit the lemon juice and dill only because the hubby doesn’t like pickles and I knew he’d detect it. However, I seasoned the chicken with lemon-pepper seasoning after cooking/chopping, and before dumping back into the pot. Also, I added extra noodles for a little thicker/heartier soup, and topped with fresh grated parmesan and focaccia croutons after serving. My husband and son both loved it too, and we all agreed that it was indeed pretty damn delicious!
P.S. I am back again today, excited to try out the quinoa enchilada casserole for “Taco Tuesday”. I have no doubt it’ll be amazing too. I’m so happy I found this website as I embark on a quest of new recipes for a new year. Thank you!
This soup turned out so delicious! I did double the amount of carrots and celery to give it a lot more veggies. Love it!
A great recipe
This is on the stove now. Tastes good but needed a little something more to me. Only change I made was to add a little better than bouillon chicken in. Delicious! Going on the rotation list.
This was absolutely spectacular. The Wife and I loved it so much, we share it with the our families.
This has become a staple in my house!! We add some gf matzah balls and it’s crazy delicious!! Thank you!!
Made it today. It is very good!
Delicious soup on Christmas Eve! The only addition I made was equal parts minced ginger to the garlic. Love that flavor note. I did dice boneless chicken prior and let brown a bit after mirepoix was tender, just to speed up cooking (time crunch). And lastly, I did cook the egg noodles beforehand so they didn’t get soggy. Followed everything else to the letter and it’s amazing. I LOVE your recipes!!
Love this soup!!! So easy to prepare and so delicious ! Very big hit with all family members . Have made several times already and will be making many more! I add more garlic and some cayenne pepper but we like things spicy!
Very fast and easy. If you’re in a hurry you can use a rotisserie chicken, which is almost as good. It’s never been easier to make homemade broth if you have an Instant Pot. Much better than the boxed stuff.
This recipe has become a household favorite! Especially during the cold months, I make this recipe multiple times a month. It’s so tasty and the perfect thing to warm you up!
Very tasty! Will definitely make again and again. The flavors were wonderful.
Made this recipe on a Thursday morning of our first snow fall, my daughter couldn’t feed it to my granddaughter fast enough, its delicious and easy to make I had everything on hand except for the fresh dill, used the dried, will continue to make thru out the winter months
This recipe is solid! I made a couple of additions by adding about 1/4 cup of soy sauce for some extra umami and 2 Tb of dried oregano. I can see this recipe being great with some grated ginger too. This recipe is a great classic and these additions really gave it the extra cold weather oomf that can help warm and clear your sinuses!
Only one suggestion- sear the chicken in the pot for a couple minutes on each side to brown first, remove then continue with the recipe.
Absolutely better than my mom’s chicken soup!! Every ingredient compliments each other and the lemon juice and dill sets the flavor apart. It gives you that warm, home cooked feeling as if you were in the kitchen all day. Whenever I make this soup, I never have leftovers.
Tried this tonight and it was a BIG hit! Super easy and minimal prep. Perfect for a chilly night’s dinner! Thank you !!
Amazing and easy to make.
Delicious recipe. I added some thyme and sage since it was tiny bit bland and it turned out delicious.
Hi Andrew,
I’m making this soup tomorrow and was wondering, did you cut up the sage or use whole leaves? Thank you.
Made this tonight, with substitutions for my picky eaters. Replaced onion with green onion that I left whole and took out before serving. Also used a bag of frozen peas and carrots because celery is a no go. Other than that followed everything else the same.
This will definitely become part of our regular meal rotation. A real HIT !
Easy and delicious. (I chose to shred the chicken.) Saved this recipe to use again.
Making this for my patient. She just got dentures and her gums are inflamed. This should help. The garlic is good for healing and broth. Plus the noodles are soft.
This is the best chicken/turkey soup I have ever made and eaten. WOW. The Dill and lemon make it pop. I did make dumplings to add in at the end. My wife and kids have Celiac disease, this is a great gluten free recipe.
This was by far the very best chicken noodle soup I have ever made! My hubby asked me if I would make it again, which never happens 🙂 It truly was damn delicious!
Best chicken soup ever had! Everyone loved it!
I’m pretty sure a big heaping bowlful of this gorgeous soup would cure ANYTHING! I generally do NOT go to the trouble of making homemade chicken noodle soup in the fall and winter, just because it usually takes so long! You can bet, I’ll be turning to this recipe the second I get that craving!
Absolutely fantastic I made this soup and I am a terrible cook came out so good I didn’t want to share, but my friend she smelled it and I couldn’t say no.said you didn’t make this its Amazing
Is it ok to dice the chicken before I add it to the stock to cook?
So simple, yet full of flavor. I added more chicken stock so that I could have a more “brothy” soup. Kids loved it too!
Fantastic as described !
My only alteration was to swap out the noodles for 1 cup wild rice which needs to be added at boiling,
then simmer as instructed.
What a treat to not have seasonings dominate the flavor profile.
The chicken, vegetables, dill…everything is a stand alone flavor and yet
blends together perfectly.
Well done !!
Making this for the family right now! Has anyone tried freezing it?
Yes! and it was perfectly delicious the next time around!
Simple but fresh. Loved it!!! Stuck to the recipe but only had boneless breasts, it turned out fantastic!!!
This was easy and delicious. The dill, lemon and parsley adds the perfect flavor. I will make this again!
This is a basic chicken noodle soup recipe, which is just what I wanted. It doesn’t garner superlatives in its rating, but it is a good go-to recipe.
One caveat: I didn’t even go near the amount of dill recommended. Just a dash will do.
I doctored things up with a bit of Rosemary, Thyme, and a dash of ginger powder.
What to do about the noodles continues to be a quandary. In this case, and I believe it will be the default going forward, I boil the noodles separately each time I warm up the soup. That way, the noodles don’t suck up the broth, and it ceases to be soup.
I have adopted the “cook noodles separately” mantra for all soup and casserole recipes. I can’t see any other way to freeze/reheat large batches of anything including (hopefully al dente) pasta. If there’s another solution, somebody please educate me.
Made this tonight- not feeling great & wanted a comfy soup. This was amazing! Used boneless chicken breast and dried rather than fresh herbs because it’s what we had – but excellent! Will be making this again for sure!
Fun making at 7am this morning with my husband. Having a ladies craft night with soup French bread and drinks. We will see what they think. Yummy
Everything Turned out great, the only change I would do is put much less dill and parsley into the recipe. I’m glad I only put half the amount of dill in and still had to skim it out.
This is absolutely the best chicken noodle soup recipe. The addition of fresh dill is wonderful! Thank you!
This was Damn delicious!!!
Excellent! I actually used two rotisserie chickens, poured the juice into the broth, doubled the veggies, and placed one of the whole rotisserie chicken bones into the pot while it all cooked. Also doubled the egg noodles. Was DIVINE.
Tasty and delicious. Easy to make! Best soup to make during the cold season. Thanks so much for the recipe! My family loved it.
Quick question – my boyfriend was only able to grab bone-in, skinless chicken thighs and boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Can I add both types of chicken to this recipe? Planning on making this tonight!
This was so delicious! I’m going off of this and making my own recipe!!! ♥️
I really, really loved this soup and will definitely make it again (and again). But you really need to include nutritional info in these recipes. Some of us have to watch things like carbs, sodium, etc. and it really helps us track what we eat.
Thanks!
Yes, absolutely. The thighs are slightly fattier and will
Add richness to the broth. Can’t hurt a thing !!
This was very easy to make and damn delicious. Definitely looking forward to the leftovers for lunch.
Damn delicious!
Simply AMAZING! So easy to make and tasty. This will go into the regular rotation in our house. Even my picky eater kids at this soup. Do yourself a favor and make this soup!!!
Super easy and delicious. I am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant and nauseous so most food doesn’t settle well. This was perfect! I added spinach and used whole wheat egg noodles. Didn’t have fresh parsley or fresh dill but used dried parsley and it still tasted great.
Simply the best chicken noodle soup recipe. Simple, fresh and warms the soul.
This is a great recipe, but as I am cooking this.I will have to make another pan before the week is out. I love CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP and have been looking for creative ways to use the leftovers.
i wouldn’t change a thing about this meal. And i love to read more posts of yours on regular basis.
I wanted to try a new Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe, and I am so happy it was yours. It was fantastic! The Dill and Lemon juice made it perfect.
Oh.my.word. Wow – this recipe is delicious!! This is my first attempt at homemade chicken noodle soup so I have nothing to compare this recipe with but for my first rodeo, it’s fantastic. Absolutely perfect for a cold day. I followed the recipe on spot (except forgot the celery) and my tastebuds were beyond satisfied. I will certainly be making this again. Thank you!!!!
Did you use the lemon?
so good and very easy! Thank you
This is perfect for a cold day! I also didn’t add the lemon or dill. It is such a simple and easy recipe. I doubled the carrots only because I love them. Thank you for this great recipe!
Yum! I’m a novice cook and followed the recipe exactly and it was awesome, love the fresh lemon and herb taste.
Love it
Why do people feel a need to customize the recipe.
Just rate it the way it was written.
Thanks everybody.
Thank you damndelicious again.
Am I at a Jewish deli ?
Great soup for this cold and dreary day
My 6 year old gave this soup a 10!!! I followed the recipe slightly fresh herbs, no dill/parsley, added 2 water since I only had 1 32oz chicken broth I also used drum sticks and stuck the bone in the broth. (Something my mom always did) I personally love lemon I squeeze a lot.
This was delicious! How long should I cook the chicken if I have boneless chicken breasts?
This is a great recipe for soup. The only switch up is I use 4 tbsp butter to sauté my vegetables because I used 2x the vegetables. I also used shredded rotisserie lemon pepper chicken. Family approved.
Positively decadent while perfectly simple. Exactly what I was looking for!
Wow this was so delicious and comforting! My fiancé wanted to make chicken noodle soup, which his dad made often. We couldn’t find bone-in skinless chicken breast, so we just used regular chicken breast. We hadn’t poached the chicken in a soup before. That was the best part! Loved the recipe, loved the home style feel. Our house smells like celery and soup now. Not complaining.
Love love love! I made this soup for my husband who was feeling under the weather. And he’s a super picky eater.
Anyway, it smells like heaven, even our kiddos were asking about “what smelled so good” and I could smell it the next AM. I did use chicken strips (raw, but not on the bone). Then after they cooled I just tore apart and added back to the soup. Still amazing! I also purchased rosemary/olive oil bread from my local bakery. It’s amazing, I love the hint of dill I taste. But all of the ingredients combined just work. Thank you, this is a saved recipe in our home for sure!
I make this dish OVER and OVER again. It’s the absolute best chicken noodle soup recipe. I even add some turmeric for extra immune strengthening. Have got so many compliments on it.
I’ve made this recipe twice already and it taste just like my mom’s homemade chicken noodle soup. I’m Dominican so I add 3 sopitas which you can find in your local supermarket in the hispanice aisle but other than I followed this recipe to the T. Thank you so much my family loves it!
This is a great soup recipe I do add a can or two of diced tomato and that puts this soup over the edge!
Wonderful recipe! Thank you!
I subbed a half cup of orzo and canned chicken because that’s what was in the cupboard, and it was easily the tastiest chicken soup I have ever made.
The recipe looks great! I was wondering if anyone has frozen the soup without the noodles, and just added noodles upon thawing/reheating?
Chicken soup freezes super well. Just don’t add the noodles, they tend to break apart and become a mushy mess after they come out of the freezer. Boil what noodles you need seperately, and then add at the time of serving. Freeze your soup, then do the same thing when you reheat it.
Chicken soup is always my GO TO meal whenever it starts getting chilly out. I’ve always made it pretty much exactely like your recips except the lemon and dill add so much flavour! Love it, thanks!
I love this recipe and have made it a few times. I do do one simple change and that is I cook the noodles seperate and then you can add just the right amount when the soup is served. I then put the leftover noodles in the fridge in an airtight container. The noodles don’t get mushy stuck in the leftover soup.
Love all of these tips and that looks absolutely amazing! Your pictures make it even better and makes me more excited to try. Love the idea of using fresh dill too!
This recipe is truly amazing. Not feeling too well and each bite sings to my tummy and my throat. Thank you so much ❤️
I am making this as I type but have already made it 2 times before. WOW! It is so yummy. It is also great without the lemon and dill. This one’s a keeper
Did not have onion and garlic on hand due to only shopping every 2 weeks, but I used canned chicken and garlic and onion powder. I love this soup. The lemon and dill (I grow it fresh) gave it the perfect flavor. Better than any I have had before. My whole family actually ate it. First time in forever that we have all agreed on something. Thank you so much for sharing.
Great recipe. Made exactly
Best Chicken Noodle Soup recipe I’ve tried yet. I didn’t have all the ingredients on hand, so I had to substitute the garlic and onion for powdered onion and powdered garlic. Also, I used canned mixed vegetables and canned white chicken in place of the carrot and white chicken breast. Taste and flavor was phenomenal.
I’ve made this 3 times. First 2 times didn’t have every ingredient due to shopping only once a week now.. Today I used some leftover baked chicken breasts so seasoning from chicken. Yum! Sharing with some who are shut in. Thanks!
Can you use chicken skinless chicken thighs?
I always use thighs because they have so much more flavor then chicken breasts.
How much Time does it take to make the thighs and how many did you use? Do you get a lot of meat from it?
Dominick, I’ve used skinless bone-in thighs! Thighs give this recipe so much flavor, and you get all the benefits from the bone marrow…..just simmer for 40 minutes and they’re ready. Then de-bone and add the rest of the ingredients…… 😉
I made this soup for the first time & I’m proud of myself & my family loved it. Thanks for the help. I added some other things like other seasoning & Tabasco. Not cold here in Vegas but soup is always good for the soul
This was so awesome! Thank you so much for your recipes!
Very good soup. I made it using your Instant Pot Stock Recipe. Is there a way to adapt this recipe for the Instant Pot? I don’t want to overcook the vegetables.
Extremely easy to make. I thought the ingredients were simple but the lemon and dill give the soup a fresh flavour. Very hearty. Will add this to my list of recipes to make.
I have never made one before but went online to see many recipes This was very simple and unique. Tried this and it was the best chicken noodles ever, even better than some of the restaurants ones that they sell. Everyone in my family love it. Thanks so much for the recipe. It’s a treasure!❤️
The BEST chicken noodle recipe I’ve ever had and made!! The dill and splash of lemon bring such a fresh flavor to the soup 🙂 I can’t believe this recipe isn’t plastered all over the internet with more reviews. A co-worker of mine brought this in for me two weeks ago for lunch and I’ve got my 2nd pot of this boiling away on the stove as we speak. Thank you so much for sharing. Also wanted to note that the soup enhances in flavor as the days go by. I stored ours in individual plastic soup containers in the fridge for lunch (for the week) and it lasted 5 days only because we ate it all and shared with our fellow neighbors.
I am enjoying a bowl of this flavorful soup as I write this review. I love it. It turned out really delicious. I added fresh garlic and zucchini. Thank you for posting this recipe.
Hands down the best chicken noodle recipe out there. I loves the touch of Lemon and Dill. I used organic Costco bone in Stock and what a great fit. delicious!
I love this! I meal prepped this soup with a side salad and some fresh fruit. Instead of the egg noodles I used white rice since I can’t seem to stop the noodles from soaking up all the broth and it still turned out great!
I made this last night for my husband who’s battling a head cold and it was great! I may have been a little generous with the fresh dill and parsley so I will dial that back next time. It was also great heated up for lunch today. Thanks!!
I Really love this recipe! It is totally diffrent from the regular chicken noodle soup I have made before! I make tons of soup being from the midwest also! Plus have a lot of dental problems so different soup recipes are GREAT! I did add a few extra things like leeks and I made a whole rosemary thyme chicken that I used but otherwise I followed recipe and it was one of my new favorites.
Thanks for the GREAT RECIPE!
I’ve got a sick kid. So tonight, guess what’s for dinner?
Being a divorced man that has very few culinary skills and lives on fast-food due to work (and laziness!), by chance i found your website and after looking at several recipes, I thought I’d try this one as my ex used to make incredible chicken noodle soup and man, do i miss it — especially when under the weather.
So i tried this chicken noodle soup recipe, carefully followed all the directions and it was not only pretty easy to make but was also absolutely delicious! And i had plenty left for 2 additional meals….
Thank you so much for providing such a great site with so many very tasty-looking recipes as after surfing through many other recipes you offer, I’ll be trying out many more very soon! Love the site…..
Looking forward to trying this recipe! I’m also in the Midwest and we may get some nice weather come March or April! Last Easter I remember wearing a dress so here’s to hoping just two more months left of winter!
