Hawaiian Hot Dogs with Mango Salsa
A simple, yet refreshing summer hot dog loaded with a spicy mango salsa!
It’s been a hell of a week, not because something bad happened but I’ve had a sense of heaviness since Monday.
It’s been chaotic with my editorial calendar along with various deadlines and I’m just biting off way more than I can chew. I’m realizing that I need to learn how to say no because at the end of the day, I just can’t do it all.
Except for hot dogs. I can always do hot dogs, particularly Hebrew National dogs.
See I recently made these Mexican Hot Dogs but I needed another Hebrew National fix so I picked up a bag of dogs the other day and threw them on the grill. It didn’t take long before I decided to use up my fresh, ripe mangos, making a refreshing, spicy mango salsa along with some avocado slices.
I was a bit worried that these hot dogs were too simple but I’ve learned that with hot dogs, the simpler the better. Plus, with these fun toppings, you’ll have the most summery, most refreshing dog this season!

Oooooh. This lovely recipe gives hot dogs a whole new meaning! Tomorrow I am doing a hot dog roundup to celebrate National Hot Dog Day and thispost will be featured! Hope you can stop by 🙂
Just want to let you know that I am obsessed with this recipe! I’ve made it several times and each time it’s been amazing. My dad loves it, too, and says that it’s the best way to eat a hotdog now. 🙂 Thank you for sharing!
Couple questions:
What kind of mango did you use? The yellow skin mangos are much smaller than the green skin mangos.
Are there diced strawberries in one of your mango salsa photos above? Which is better, tomatoes or strawberries?
Can the mango salsa be made ahead of time? Is it still good the next day?
Christa, I used green skin mangos. You can use either strawberries or tomatoes in this salsa – that is up to you. Both taste amazing. And yes, you can make this ahead of time.
