Guacamole Shrimp Wonton Cups
Crisp wonton cups filled with guacamole and cajun grilled shrimp. A quick and easy appetizer sure to impress everyone!
It’s September which can only mean one thing. Football season is now here!
Well, it actually starts in one week but we can have all of our tailgating needs ready and prepared before it all starts so I have partnered with Weber Grills and Eat Shrimp to bring you the most epic appetizer ever.
Now the kind folks over at Weber Grills sent me the Weber Q 1200 Portable Gas Grill, a tabletop powerhouse that can withstand frequent use and transport for all of your grilling needs, which is obviously a must for football season. And this grill will take your tailgating to the next level, with this perfectly grilled cajun shrimp nestled on top of a crisp wonton cup filled with guacamole.
Yes, there’s a lot happening here but it’s such an easy recipe, I promise. You can even bake the wonton cups ahead of time, and if you’re really short on time, you can also use store-bought guacamole.
Either way, no one will be watching the game when these babies are served!

Ingredients
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly oil a 24-cup mini muffin tin or coat with nonstick spray.
- Fit a wonton wrapper into each of the 24 muffin tins, pressing carefully to make sure there is an opening in the center.
- Place into oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
- In a medium bowl, combine shrimp, olive oil, garlic and cajun seasoning; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Preheat grill to medium high heat. Add shrimp to grill and cook, flipping once, until pink and opaque, about 2 minutes on each side.
- Fill each wonton with 1 tablespoon guacamole and 1 shrimp.
- Serve immediately, garnished with cilantro, if desired.

One of my guest is allergic to seafood what could I substitute for the shrimp in the won ton guacomale shrimp recipe.
How do you eat these? Seems like they would be hard to eat. Please tell because I love the ingredients- just don’t want them to be difficult for the guests.
Question regarding won ton wrappers…..should I split the sheets until they are thin and see-thru or leave as is. (Kind of double layer) Sorry, but have never used them before. I look forward to making your recipe!
These turned out yummy!
Delicious and super E A S Y!!
We agree! 🙂
Substituted Tortilla Scoop chips for Wantons. Turned out great with less work.❤️
Awesome! Great way to improvise. Thanks for sharing!
Can these be served cold?
Yes, absolutely.
Hi- I dont exactly understand what you mean in step two regarding leaving a center in the cup. Please explain why
Because there needs to be a space (opening) for the filling.
How far in advance can you make the wonton cups? And how best to store them if I’m going to assemble the following day?
I recommend making them no earlier than the night before. You can store them at room temperature.
Hello! These were in fact delicious! Thank you for sharing. What type of wrappers did you buy and from where? 🙂
I was able to find standard wonton wrappers in the refrigerated section of my local grocery store.
Can these be made and assembled ahead?
Unfortunately, I just don’t think the wontons will hold up – but as always, please use your best judgment.
Do the wonton wrappers form a flat no-leak bottom so the guacamole doesn’t seep through? Looks beautiful!
Yes!
Gorgeously and deliciously presented! WOW.
Oh my! Just found your website and I’m super excited to try so many of your recipes! These Shrimp Wonton Cups will definitely be on the table for the first game!
Epic appetizer is right…I can’t wait to try these!
This is the perfect finger food! And all the flavours and textures going on here. Can’t wait to try these!
Hey! Love your blog! I have never had good luck with ANY mini muffin cup recipes in my non-stick muffin pan. No matter how much I spray or oil, things always get stuck. I bought a silicone mini muffin pan. Do you think the wonton wrappers would get crispy with it or do you have some other tip for getting things out of a mental one smoothly?
Thanks!
Casey, I have never used a silicone pan so I cannot really speak for that but the wonton wrappers should come out very easily even with a little bit of nonstick spray.
Three of my favorite things combined: shrimp, guacamole, and Cajun anything!!! These look divine!!
