Parmesan Garlic Spaghetti
5 ingredients. 20 minutes. With melted butter, garlic and freshly grated Parmesan. A winning combination for the ENTIRE family!
I know. It’s a brand spanking new year, and I should probably be posting some variation of a quinoa-kale-type salad.
But guys. It’s a new year.
I say, let’s eat more Parmesan, garlic and pasta. Drenched in browned butter, of course.
I mean this only has 5 ingredients. And then takes about 20 minutes to whip up.
It’s almost a crime to NOT be eating this every single day of 2016, right?
Parmesan Garlic Spaghetti
Ingredients
- 8 ounces spaghetti
- 10 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
- ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
Instructions
- In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions; drain well.
- In a medium saucepan, combine butter, garlic and red pepper flakes over medium heat until the butter has melted. Cook, whisking constantly, until the foam subsides and the butter begins to turn a golden brown, about 4-5 minutes, skimming foam as necessary.
- Remove from heat. Stir in pasta and Parmesan until well combined, about 2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Serve immediately, garnished with parsley, if desired.

Thank you for the amazing recipe! It is quick and delicious!
The taste I was looking for! I used Italian durum semolina linguine, Kerrygold butter, garlic, Sartori Classic Parmesan cheese. I skipped the pepper and parsley as I wanted to enjoy just the deliciousness of the pasta. It is wonderful by itself. I love it
This recipe amazed me as far as quick-come-together meals go. They usually fail me big-time but this one was as simple as described, as quick and as delicious as promised. I should have cooked the spaghetti longer but that was on me (I usually like Al dente pasta but it was a bit more of a bite than preferred in this). The recipe itself was divine.
This pasta was exceptional!! My husband and I had this tonight. I sautéed some butter garlic chicken and added. So good. What could I do to make it a little more “saucy”? Maybe add some pasta water? Thank you! This is a keeper!!!!
So good! I’m super picky and just wanted garlic parm pasta. I tried two recipes which were so bad I couldn’t even finish it. This is better than I had in mind. I rarely leave reviews. Thank you.
Easy and delicious recipe! I made some rare steaks to accompany the pasta and everyone loved it! Thank you
Very delicious recipe. The entire family liked. Tasted liked ordered at an Italian restaurant. Next time will use less butter.
So yummy! Only thing I would have done is add more butter.
Made this recipe-so darn good I’m making it again as I write this review. On its own or with salad or protein, the flavour is so very delicious! Fast and easy too-just can’t go wrong.
Very good. I used less butter as recommend.
Fast and easy to make
This dish is so good! When I make this I double the recipe so we can have leftovers and I use garlic powder instead of minced garlic and pre packaged shredded parmesan instead of freshly grated, but I don’t think it deviates too much from the recipe for me to not give a rating to the recipe.
Easy to follow recipe and super tasty!
This was super easy to follow and the result were delicious !
Tried out this recipe loved it very good. However I would down play the butter a few table spoons.
This is the original alfredo recipe! A classic <3 lov it!
Dh and I really enjoyed this! So fast and easy to make. Thank you! (The only change I would suggest is to use a bit less butter as there was quite a bit left in the pot. Or serve it with bread to sop up the extra butter sauce.)
We tried this sauce tonight and it was delicious. So easy, so quick. It’s a nice alternative to the heavy red sauces we tend to use. We will definitely make this sauce again and again!!
I love these pasta recipes !!
Absolutely loved this recipe. This is my comfort meal when craving a nice simple bowl of pasta. I tend to add lots more garlic as I do love garlic. Once the pasta is done I add the pasta (right from the pot) right away to the saucepan and mix. If needed I use the pasta water to thicken up the sauce. I sometimes make this as a side with Chicken Parmesan.
This is SO good and easy! It’s our second time making this with Shirataki noodles. We use Shirataki noodles for all our pasta dishes. We love them! Today, we decided to use 5 tbsp of butter instead of the 10 tbsp that we did the first time. It was delicious the first time, but we had a ton of butter left in the bottom of our bowls. We also used a slice of toasted Extraordinary Bites Keto bread to dip in the leftover butter and garlic that was in the bottom of our bowls today. YUM YUM YUM! I can’t wait to make this again!
This is a rough take on the Italian version of “PASTA GA LOY Q” (phonetic spelling). A ‘poor man’s spaghetti. DELICIOUS, no matter how you pronounce or spell it. You can also use ramen noodles if you’re pressed for time. One of my favorites!
Haha, was looking up butter and spaghetti because thats all I have right now and gaplen to have these few extra ones too lol, fits the part
I used to do this when I was a kid.. thanks for the reminder lol
Made the sauce exactly as directed and mixed it
With tortellini. It was a huge hit and really delicious. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
Excellent recipe. The only differences I made were to add a scoop of bacon grease, a few more cloves, and dried parsley, rather than fresh. I also added some of the pasta water before adding the pasta in.
Super quick and easy with big flavor results! Thank you!
So easy to make and absolutely delicious!
Absolutely delicious
So easy and delicious!
I salted the pasta water and used it to emulsify the butter sauce instead of throwing it out and it was AWESOME. Perfectly seasoned that way. Thanks for the recipe
PREFACE! I only had cheddar in the fridge on the late night I stumbled upon this! Nevertheless I pursued, I only had a small amount of butter in the fridge too haha so I only managed to get 4 tsps in, but it was fine when it got to adding the pasta, I added a little pasta water I’d saved to help with the sliiight dryness. Something about butter and cheese is amazing.
I need to try this with parmesan!!!
This was fast and easy and infinitely better than the italian diner on the corner. Thank you for this easy recipe. My daughter loves it!!!
This is a keeper my whole family gobbled it up!!!!
Excellent! Quick, easy and delicious!
Yummy! Will definitely be making this again! Only thing I would change next time is using 3-4 tbsp less butter. Using 8 oz of pasta I ended up with a good amount of butter sitting at the bottom of the dish I put it in.
Wow this was so easy and delicious! Would be amazing with shrimp or scallops.
One of the easiest and delicious recipes ever!
Simple and delicious! My kind of cooking. Just made it and I was done within minutes. It’s so good.
This recipe is elegant and simply delicious. However, I would go easy on the butter. For 8 oz, half of sticks butter seems too much.
I love garlic spaghetti! My husband’s not a big pasta eater. Spending all this time at home, I’m EATING AND GAINING!! Ate 1/2 lb. myself last week! But used only 5 T. Butter. And loved every forkful!
Plan to treat myself just once a week!
Anyone needs to try this easy recipe!
Thanks, I am a 12 year old that likes cooking and I cooked this with my mother for our family, was great!
That’s incredible! Wish my 12 year old would cook! Good for you. Your family is lucky to have you ❤️
Jana! Pinned your recipe to my cheat day menu. Is it necessary to add freshly ground black pepper to the dish? Wouldn’t this make the SPAGHETTI taste a bit spicy?
You can omit the black pepper if you want but we love it!
It’s soooooo delicious you can’t stop
Eating this pasta dish, and is so easy to make can beat that.
Yummy
I have made this recipe now about five times. I love love love it. I use about five cloves of garlic. But that’s all I change. Delicious! Thanks for the great recipe:)
This works so well as a main, and we thank you for this recipe that is possible to easily pull together with the staples found almost always in our kitchen! Top parmesan that you grate yourself and good pasta seem to be the key to the success here. If possible have everything else ready to go so it’s simple to put this together and can be served while hot. There is no real need to create a so-called “traditional sauce” for pasta, calling for the all-too-familiar flour/cream/butter based white sauce when there is an opportunity to experience this, with fresh ingredients from the lovely pasta chosen to the fresh herbs and a veg. like mushrooms. Perhaps add on the plate an oven baked sweet potato with s & p, and butter or a favorite substitute like an organic, non-GMO butter-like substitute. The results are a simple comfort food to be loved by all.
I have fussy eaters in my home and wondered how this recipe would fare. Considering the kids like garlic bread I thought it might be ok. I added roast chicken to it to make it into a main meal. Turned out everyone loved it! I feel like a cheat, it was super easy and quick to make too!! Might have to be a staple in our house from now on!! Thank you Chungah!
Yummy
Quick and easy. Loved it. Combined it with grilled chicken in white sauce. Was a perfect starter for the day.
I have been eating this since I was 6 years old and still enjoying it at 31!!!
I’m going to make this tonight to go with my eggplant parmigiana, I think it will compliment the eggplant
Such a simple and great recipe! I added some broccoli to mine. I kept going back for seconds haha.
I tried making it with 8 tbsp of butter and it was still a lot for me. I’ll try less next time. I read someone tried virgin olive oil instead and would like to give it a shot as well. Just don’t know how much to use.
It was sooooo easy and delicious. I used spaghetti. I grilled some chicken and it was perfect dinner.
Sweet!
All my picky eaters loved it AND it really took only 20 minutes to make! Winner!!!!
I make this at least once per week. I love it!! I added it to my blog post on favorite recipes. Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Damn delicious doesn’t come close . In fact a superlative doesn’t existed !
Haha thank you!
We made this tonight. Doubled the recipe and added peas. Delicious! Thank you!
Great!
We found that adding milk and flour really thickened up the sauce to make it almost perfect! It started off too thin and with a lot of butter but the flour and milk fixed the thinness issue.
idk where i went wrong. everything was going great until the end adding noodles and cheese. i bought an expensive block of parmesan i had to grate myself and it just balled up and all my noodles were sticking to the cheese…..and it’s swimming in butter so i’m going to try and add the flour and milk as another review mentioned. i’m sad as i’ve roasted a pan of veggies to go with this dish if consistency was there i’d say this is delicious
how to increase to feed 10?
You can double or triple the recipe as needed.
Hi, I just made this dish but I steamed asparagus and I used butter with olive oil and lemon juice to your recipe and it was awesome!
Four out of five of us loved it! I think my youngest might not be too fond of garlic. I used just one stick of butter and a full pound of spaghetti and I still felt like there was more butter than necessary. I might cut it down to 6 TB next time but there will be a next time. When she was done my daughter said, “My lips feel so moisturized.”
I made this as a side dish with fish it was a big hit. I used angel hair pasta. Quick and easy and very tasty.
Made this today for my 4 year old who loves noodles. I had to substitute basil with parsley as I didn’t have it at home. Also I used olive oil and butter. And I tried to chop up some broccoli finely so my daughter was forced to eat it. My daughter wasn’t too fond of the broccoli but she loved it. Thank you so much!
This sounds sooo yummy, but need to know if I can make it and keep in slow cooker on warm for Christmas dinner?
Thank you.
What a great idea! But unfortunately, without having tried it myself, I cannot answer with certainty – sorry!
Just made this and turned out pretty good. it’s soooooo yummyyyy
My husband said he could live on this!! This was really delicious. The only change I made was to add a bit more parmesan because we love it. Soooooo good. Thanks for a great recipe!
We can always add more Parmesan! 🙂
We made this tonight. I thought I was too tired to cook but this recipe was so quick and easy, I pulled through. We liked it a lot!
Very bland. Not much flavor.
i was try to cook it, and follow your intruction and last i try it, it so delicious, thank for sharing.
The picture make me feel hungry… thankyou for your sharing
nice
This is my favourite food, I have to try this recipe at home
thankyou for sharing
This recipe is so delicious! Wasn’t super excited when I read the nutrition information but, hey, it’s butter, so…
I didn’t have fresh parsley in hand but substituted a little dried, which I added when I added the pasta and Parmesan- still great!
Definitely going to use this as a base for other variations- adding chicken, a little lemon, maybe even fresh crushed tomatoes would be incredible! And it’s SO quick and easy that it makes a great side or last minute family meal.
Oh my goodness! I can’t wait to make this! This looks and sounds so amazing!
thank for sharing
i like this
Love your idea. I’m going to try it soon.
thank you
hmmm,, yummy …
i like it
That’s not spaghetti…. that’s linguini.
Made this tonight. It was delicious! Family loved it!
(Only had half & half on hand – still turned out great)
This is my favorite food !
Can this be made ahead and stored in the fridge for a few hours?
Yes, absolutely, but it is really best when served immediately.
Awesome…I Like this food… Totally drooling over this
It’s looks like delicious..I will try this recipe soon
thanks for sharing !
Awesome…I Like this food… Totally drooling over this
Delicious. I added a package of Starkist Lemon Pepper Tuna. Yum!
Definitely will use less butter or more pasta. 227g for 4 servings???
Wooow… it’s amazing..
I made this last night with sautéed shrimp and steamed asparagus. I cut the pepper flakes in half, which worked well for hubby and me. I also added more garlic – but I love garlic! Very very good recipe. I think fresh picked crab would be an awesome topping for this pasta recipe.
Can you add some shredded chicken to the mix
Yes, absolutely.
A great recipe to try, one of my favorites…
We added bacon to the recipe! SO GOOD!!! ☺️
my favorite spaghetti, yummiiii
When do you put the sauce in?
Please refer to step #3:
3. Remove from heat. Stir in pasta and Parmesan until well combined, about 2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
This looks AMAZING!!!
I had four eggs at the end of this while the pasta is still hot stir until they are cooked in the pasta it’s delicious and it’s good for you. Try it you’ll like it
seems delicious, and makes it even seemed quite easy, I will try it tomorrow. thank you
There was a suggestion to change the color to make it more appetizing appearance?
In an America overwhelmed with diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, BP etc, is it appropriate to drown a dish in cholesterol laden butter? I mean one can load cardboard sticks with enough butter, salt and pepper to make it delicious, but is that really the thing we ought to be doing to make food delicious? Why not capitalize on the inherent food flavors accentuated with a responsible amount of fat and flavors instead? Food bloggers are followed by many in the masses who may not really recognize the beast hidden behind the delicious and I think it is wrong to entrap crowds just to get some hits.
The author never claimed it was a health food. She put the nutrition facts right on the recipe. Keep your laws off my butter.
Why would you write a response like this? Everyone can see that it has a lot of butter. You can either try to substitute the butter or cut down on the butter if you want or even better if this bothers you so much then go to another recipe. People are ridiculous! Look for the most negative thing to say about a flipping recipe. Find something to do!!
This looks and sounds soooo yummy! I’m making it tonight on side of steak and salad….YUM! I’m ready for supper now!
This was a great dish! I needed something for spaghetti but was out of sauce. So, I opted for this. Its very easy and very good. I dont keep garlic on hand but minced garlic I use a lot so I used that. 3 tsp. I also didnt have fresh parsley so I omitted that. We don’t like a lot of spice in our family so I probably used 2 good pinches of red pepper flakes. 🙂 You will need to add a bit of salt and pepper after its finished cooking. Some dishes really dont require it and I havent before but after first tasting it I needed bit of salt….so much better! Thank you!
523 calories in this whole thing? Are the nutrition facts for one serving or for the whole recipe
Anyway this looks good
The nutritional information is for each serving.
Made this for the first time and it was a hit. A keeper also. Great recipe
I was looking for something for lunch and now I have the pot boiling!
Can you make this with margarine or is the real butter important to making ‘browned butter’?
Margarine can be used but to really get that brown butter consistency, you’ll always need to use real butter. Sorry!
So delicious , I love pasta.
You have done it again! This was delicious! Making again
For many years, I was perplexed as to why restaurants’ “clam spaghetti” seemed different and worse than the recipe my mom passed down to me. Turns out what I’ve been making isn’t “clam spaghetti” so much as this, but with some minced clams added in! I think the clams fit very well into the recipe, by the way, but are indeed optional.
I may try with small shrimp next time. So delicious!
I just made this and it was OMG good!! Learning how to cook and this was the best idea to start with. Thanks so much.
Can’t wait to try this..sounds like what we eat at our fav Italian rest but I think I’m gonna throw some baby salad shrimp in there too..yummy!!
This recipe is do simple yet so flavorful. My family truly enjoyed it. Will make again and again.
Very good recipe. Just made this recipe for the first time and it’s an absolute hit with my husband and I. Much better than the previous alternatives that I’ve tried.
I don’t know how I found this recipe but I think it may have been a blessing from God that I did. It is so wonderfully delicious and we absolutely love it. I’ve made it twice already and I intend to make it often from now on. Cannot thank you enough (I cut down on the butter – 8 T instead of 10 T). – Blessings to you and your doggies, gail
This looks amazing, but is that really spaghetti? It looks more like linguine in the picture.
Martha, you can use spaghetti, linguine or fettuccine – whatever you have on hand! Isn’t that the beauty of home cooking? 🙂
I want to make this tomorrow night! I was wondering if it would be good with chicken? And how you would go about seasoning the chicken? Also I would be using a whole box of pasta so would I double this recipe? Hope to get a response before I make it!
Yes, chicken would be a great addition – you can season it however you’d like, to taste. It’s up to you! And yes, the recipe calls for 8 ounces spaghetti so if one pound is used, it would be best to double.
Probably will use way less butter next time. Made it with some lemon shrimp and homemade pasta. So good!
Hi! I came across your site about 4 months ago, when I was searching for a quick pasta dish using spaghetti noodles. I had no crushed tomatoes to make a basil marinara sauce. I only had the noodles. I looked up a simple pasta recipe and soo lucky I came across Parmesan Garlic Spaghetti! I whipped this up in minutes. The other 4 ingredients, thankfully, I had on hand. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this easy, delicious dish, my family and I love!
I made this tonight with spiral sliced zucchini…. AMAZING!!! They didn’t absorb the butter well so I will make more zucchini next time. My kids (9, 9, 4, and extremely picky) gobbled it down!! Thanks! Your recipes are the best!
I’m loving the simplicity of this dish, that I know is absolutely bursting with flavour. Yummy recipe thanks for sharing. Sammie x
Oh my gosh, this looks amazing! Parmesan, pasta and garlic- how could it possibly get any better?
Add chicken!
This cannot be anything than utterly delicious. 2 things though. First, half (8oz or 1/2 lb) a box (16oz or 1lb) of pasta only feed 2 people in my house. Second, 10 tbsp of butter for half a box of pasta is a lot but must be so delicious. This is not for the diet conscious. However, I can’t wait to try it out. Thanks!
i have some picky eaters, but they LOVED this! made it new year’s night and it was delicious!
Know what I generally do with recipes? Think “ooh that looks good,” bookmark them, and never ever make them.
This one I found about two hours ago and have already made. SO EASY. SO TASTY! SO THANK YOU! 🙂
PERFECTION
That looks wonderful. I have never made this recipe with chili flakes. My family and I are going to have to give it a shot. awesome idea.
That does it!!!! Just spent an hour looking at various items to make for tonight’s dinner – then here it is . . . . and it came to me! Thank you and HAPPY NEW YEAR ! Gonna be a good one too!
My family has been making something similar for years from an original Italian recipe. We use olive oil instead of butter (healthier) no parsley, and put over a bed of steamed broccoli with lots of parmesan and fresh ground pepper. It is one of our very favorites!
How much olive oil would you use instead?
How much olive oil do you use in place of the butter?
I love the idea of using olive oil! That way it would be dairy free for my dairy sensitive daughter! Thank you! How much do you use?
Love your idea. I’m going to try it soon.
We also do something similar! While the Asta is boiling,we take a handful per person eating of cherub tomatoes, any kind, any color, put into a glass baking dish with garlic and a pinch or 2 of sugar and pimch or 2 of salt/pepper/cayenne then douse in olive oil, giving the dish a good shake to stir. Bake at 375 until the tomatoes pop, pour over cooked pasta, juices and all and top with grated parm! I have done it with the butter, too and actually prefer this recipe she has with butter, but that sticks to my butt in my old age!
Thanks for this! I might have to try it with the olive oil. I just made it & used the butter. I feel it was too much butter for 8oz of noodles. The red pepper flakes gave it some spice. It was pretty good except for the butter.
that sounds a lot better than butter, using olive oil.
Make that Chungah!!! So sorry not paying attention to my typing!!!
This is everything I would love in a meal!!! What type pasta are you using in the pictures, linguine or something? It looks SO good!! My husband is not a big pasta eater, but thats ok, I can handle this on my own! 🙂 Thanks Changa!! Happy New Year!!!
OMG! my kind of recipe, fast, easy and delicious…it’s on the menu for tomorrow 🙂 Thanks
Gawd!!! My favorites in one dish!! Making this one tonight!! Happy New Year!!
This is everything I would love in a meal!!! What type pasta are you using in the pictures, linguine or something? It looks SO good!! My husband is not a big pasta eater, but thats ok, I can handle this on my own! Thanks Changa!! Happy New Year!!!
I am using spaghetti!
Love this recipe!!!! I made my citrus chicken with it…mmmmm th!
