Strawberry Wonton Cups
These elegant wonton cups come together so quickly and easily, and you can even make them ahead of time!
With Valentine’s Day just two days away, Jason and I finally decided to go out this year. Except, waiting two days before the most romantic holiday of the year to make a dinner reservation is not recommended. We usually stay in on this holiday but since we’re in a new city with so many amazing restaurants, I thought it would be nice to play dress-up and go to a fancy schmancy restaurant. But like I said, there are no reservations available. That’s why I’ll be making these cute little wonton cups instead.
Wonton cups can be so versatile. You can bake them up in mini muffin pans and fill them up to your favorite toppings. I chose to go the savory route with sweet, balsamic drenched strawberries, topped with crumbled goat cheese and fresh basil. They come together so quickly and easily, and have just the perfect romantic feel for that special someone. So if you’re like me and waited for the last minute for a Valentine’s Day dinner reservation, this will more than make up for it!
Strawberry Wonton Cups
Ingredients
- 2 cups strawberries, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar, or more, to taste
- 24 2- inch round won ton wrappers
- ¼ cup crumbled goat cheese
- ¼ cup basil leaves, chiffonade
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly oil a 24-cup mini muffin tin or coat with nonstick spray.
- In a large bowl, combine strawberries, balsamic vinegar and sugar; set aside.
- Fit a wonton wrapper into each of the 24 muffin tins, pressing carefully to make sure there is an opening in the center.
- Place into oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Fill each wonton with strawberry mixture. Sprinkle with goat cheese.
- Serve immediately, garnished with basil, if desired.

This recipe looks so yummy! Do you know how well these would do as leftovers?
You can make the cups ahead of time but they should be assembled prior to serving or else there will be sogginess!
I’m thinking of using your idea of the wonton cups for Fathers day this Sunday and was wondering, would it work out to bake the cups today (Tuesday) and freeze them for a few days? I was hoping to fill with a bit of white chocolate mousse and topped with a strawberry but my A/C died on me and today is the last cooler day for the near future. I might just give it a shot, nothing ventured nothing gained right? lol…wish me luck, I’m heading to the kitchen now 🙂
Unfortunately, I cannot answer this with certainty as I have never tried freezing this myself – there were no leftovers left to freeze! Please use your best judgment for freezing and reheating. (Side note: that white chocolate mousse sounds AH-MAZING.)
How far in advance can these be made?
I would recommend making them no earlier than the night before. You can store the wonton cups at room temperature.
Going to an office party. Theses look perfect for a spring time appetizer. Was wondering how well they would hold up if they were made 3 to 4 hours in advance?
These are really best when served immediately as the wonton cups may not hold up once they are filled. But as always, please use your best judgment.

I was wondering what the dressing is that you use for the strawberries.
Maureen, please click on the link to obtain the recipe for the dressing.
Can you elaborate on making them ahead of time? How far in advance, say, for a party? Any special instructions? Thanks!
Jennifer, you can bake the wonton cups up to 2 days in advance.
These cups are awesome 🙂 the flavor combination is dreamy
Um, could these be any more adorable and brilliant?! We’re the worst at those last-minute dinner plans on holidays. Case in point, we ended up at a taqueria last New Years Eve.
These are so cute, love the strawberries and touch of basil and balsamic!
I wouldn’t mind staying home on V-day and hanging out with these delicious treats!! They are adorable!

This is a great snack to bring to school!!! Kids will adore these little cups with fruits in it. Can’t wait to surprise the children. 🙂
Was wondering what U did to the outside of the wonton cups. Is that just the way they come out? Sugars website says nothing. They look too yummy not to try!
Lorraine, I just popped them in the oven. That’s it! Easy peasy, right?
