Berry Green Smoothie
Make-ahead freezer friendly smoothies that are healthy, nutritious and so refreshing for your mornings!
Ever since I started to work from home, I need every excuse to get out of the house into the real world. That’s when I started to walk down the street to Starbucks and the donut store for a morning treat before I start my work day. But obviously the donut calories are not doing me any kind of justice. So with bikini season right around the corner, I decided to change up my morning routine with a healthy green smoothie.
But instead of having a green-green smoothie, I decided to throw in some frozen berries that I had on hand. Now I love all kinds of berries but I’ve found that blueberries and raspberries make a great flavor combo. Plus, you’ll get that extra antioxidant boost! From there, I also added in a banana for some natural sweetness and old fashioned oats to keep you nice and full until lunch time.
You can also freeze individual smoothie packs in a Ziploc bag using your favorite combination of fruits. You can have a different smoothie every day, and it doesn’t get easier than throwing everything straight from the Ziploc bag to the blender! There’s absolutely no thawing needed. All you need to is add your milk and oats when you’re ready to blend. Super easy, right?

Great article, I have just started to incorporate more blue berries into my smoothies. Great way to incorporate the greens as well to make a great taste. I use this same one, but sometimes I will add a variety of strawberries and raspberries…Awesome!
I made this smoothie, it was amazing! The color didnt come out as expected, but more of a green color. But it tasted great!
I am lactose intolerant. Can I substitute milk for another ingredient, i.e. water?
Sarah, I recommend substituting soy or non-dairy milk rather than water.
Question. You have used cup measurement for all the ingredients so, have you used the standard 1 US cup measurement of 201 grams for all the ingredients or have you used different cups for different kinds of things like 1 us cups is 30 grams of spinach leaves whereas 1 cup of blueberries is 190 grams. Please clarify as it is creating a lot of confusion.
Also, if possible please use grams measurement for all future recipes. Thanks! 🙂
Loved the recipe!
I made this today for a snack, and it was delicious! I was sad when it was gone! I did have to add more milk, though, because there was not enough liquid to blend on its own…
We make them with spinach, kale, chard, 1/2 cucumber, 1tbls coconut oil, 2 tbls flax seeds(ground), 2 tbls protein powder, 2 tbls collagen powder, 1/4 c coconut water, 2 kiwis, 1/2 c frozen blueberries is the base. Then add either 2 lemons, 1 orange, 1/2 c frozen strawberries and 1/2 frozen pineapple or 2 limes & a cup of frozen watermelon. This makes two servings and it keeps my 6’4″ carnivore, very physical husband full until lunchtime.
Really lovely, healthy recipes – very easy to make. Thank you.
Can’t wait to make this :). How do you store it if you freeze it?
Mandy, you can freeze in individual smoothie packs in a Ziploc bag using your favorite combination of fruits. I wanted to add, i used unsweetened almond milk instead of normal milk,
instead of only spinach i used a baby spinach/kale mix, also frozen mixed berries. Nevertheless, it’s so delicious. I think i will not be using any ice cubes next time, or a little less.
I ordered a blender and today it arrived. Bought some fresh veggies and frozen berries and also the unsweetened almond milk! I made the smoothie (without any sugar) about an hour ago. I made 32 oz. My 2.5 year old daughter tried it and 3 8 oz glasses later she says “mommy, smootie is delicious” ! Lol
This is a great recipe, she didn’t even mind the grittiness! I find the little seeds from the raspberries more annoying !
Thanks for this, we really enjoyed this delicious smoothie ! Yum Yum 🙂
This and others sound yummy BUT where are the nutritional amounts. All these ingredients add up and may NOT be for all to eat.
Nutritional information is provided only for select and new recipes at this time. However, if it is not available for a specific recipe, it is best that you use free online resources at your discretion (you can Google “nutritional calculator”) to obtain such information.
I’m wondering if you have ever blended these ingredients first then froze the blended smoothie for drinking or ‘spooning out’ later? I have paba free, dishwasher safe bottles that I use for my smoothies that would be perfect for freezing pre-blended smoothies in.
Unfortunately, I have never tried freezing the smoothie after it has been made, just before.
Love this recipe except for the oats. Am trying to go gluten-free (some resources list oats as gluten-source). What do you suggest as a substitute to make the smoothie ‘filling’?
Thanks!
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot advise an appropriate substitute that will not alter the overall taste/texture of the dish. Using a substitution may also result in a mediocre outcome but if a substitution must be made, please use your best judgment.
I just made this, and it was delicious (and filling!). It was the only one I could find that called for ingredients that I actually had around the house, so I didn’t have to go out and buy anything special. Amazing!
my husband just went through a pill form of kemo so we are looking for new ways to stay healthy for us and our boys. I just love the smoothie recipe it looks so yummy. thank you so much and I also would love to win the giveaway we would surely make great use of it. thank you
I am trying to get healthy. I want to smoothie but some recipes are not so appealing. However, your recipes look very yummy and I’m anxious to get started. Thank you so. Ugh for sharing all your recipes. Your giveaway is a super idea too!
Thanks!!
Smoothie sounds interesting with the spinach leaves, but i will give it a try.
Do you need to add ice if you have frozen all the ingredients beforehand?
You don’t have to but if you like crushed ice in your smoothies, you can still add it in. It’s really up to you.
This looks delicious but not sure the table sugar is needed? Will skip that part. 🙂 thanks for the recipe
Made this, and it’s awesome!
This looks great! I have never tried oatmeal in smoothies; we usually use flax or chia. I bet the oats would make it more filling. Thanks for the tip!
