One Pot Pasta

The easiest, most amazing pasta you will ever make. Even the pasta gets cooked right in the pot. How easy is that?!
This is probably by far the easiest pasta dish you will ever make in your entire life. It’s literally a 5-min prep, and then everything gets tossed right in the pan, including the uncooked spaghetti. Let the water come to a boil and that is it.
The hardest part is waiting for the pasta to cook through and having the liquid reduced, which really just takes about 8-10 minutes. Not long at all.
Stir in your freshly grated Parmesan (freshly grated is key here) and top with additional Parm, if desired.
One Pot Pasta
Ingredients
- 1 pound spaghetti
- 1 (12.8-ounce) package smoked andouille sausage, thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cups halved grape tomatoes
- 2 cups fresh basil leaves, loosely packed
- 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan
Instructions
- In a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium high heat, combine spaghetti, sausage, onion, tomatoes, basil, garlic and 4 1/2 cups water; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until pasta is cooked through and liquid has reduced, about 8-10 minutes. Stir in Parmesan.
- Serve immediately.

It’s become one of our staple meals. All three of our girls love it, and so does my husband, so it’s win at our house!
This was delicious! I fried up the sausage, and then caramelized the onion and garlic a bit before adding everything else to the pot. I also added a little stock concentrate and red pepper flakes for some more flavor. But that fresh tomato and basil is just to die for! It created a nice thick sauce that coated everything nicely. Will definitely be making this again!
This was easy and delicious! I had everything in my pantry.
My subs: half chicken stock for water, chopped fresh tomatoes (summer season), and added a bit of crushed red pepper. Oh, and bucatini for spaghetti because that is what I had.
I would certainly make this again.
This was so so delicious!
I did put in 2 cans of tomato sauce along with the water, added some other spices
I also fried some cherry tomatoes, with garlic, Italian seasoning along with banana pepper, then added that with the spaghetti mixture
I will definitely be making this again!!!
So Delicious and easy!! I used the sausage & tomatoes I had on hand but kept the quantities the same. It was perfect!
Great website, thanks for the great recipes… I’ll use them again in the future 😉 THANK YOU !!! Greetings from Germany
This is one of my favorite weeknight recipes. I definately recommend replacing water with broth and drizzle some EVOO when it’s done cooking to prevent sticking. Cheater hack: I use the squeeze bottle of basil and 1 can of diced tomatoes. Since onion and the sausage are always good for weeks at a time, this helps me make sure I always have everything on hand to throw this together on a whim. My 13 year old is learning to cook and this is a recipe that she can make…. It’s quick, delicious, simple, 1 pot to wash and fairly cheap to make.
Rediscovered this recipe on my Pinterest when I needed to do something with all my basil this year. Very tasty and easy, plus it’s a great recipe to send with my daughter off to college. Easy to feed her and her roommates on a college budget.
Love this recipe. One change I made was I add a can of fire roasted tomatoes. Gives it just the right amount of kick
Our go-to weeknight recipe!
We add a whole lot more Parmesan at the end than recommended and we use Aidell’s chicken and apple sausages! Delicious.
This is one of our favorites!!!! So easy to make and absolutely delicious !!!! Thank you so much for the recipe ❤️
I had just bought a new Dutch oven for Christmas and I had been looking for a one pot recipe and this one caught my eyes.
I also replaced half of the water with chicken broth and kept everything the same. This was very delicious and my husband liked it also. Perfect, easy and simple recipe!! I can’t wait to make it again – definitely a repeat recipe and I’m planning on sharing with my sisters and daughters!!
This is very good, but it takes way longer than 20 minutes. You have to pre-chop all of the ingredients, and my pot of water took forever to start boiling. Once it was boiling, mine took closer to 15 minutes than 8 for the pasta to cook through, but I know that can differ based on brand. Once it was done, it was very good and we have a lot of leftovers that I think will be delicious. You could modify it a thousand different ways too.
This has got to be one of my favorite recipes ever. I typically use chicken italian sausage when I make it. So very, very good! Highly recommended!
It was wonderful, I used half chicken broth,, half water , I will definitely make it again
One of my family’s all time favorite meals and it’s so easy to make. The flavors are fantastic! I would definitely serve this for company as well.
Loved it…I’m vegan but it was super easy to make the sausage modification. Used vegan Beyond sausage in place of the andouille sausage. I also used half vegetable broth and half water.
Thanks for sharing!!
This was amazing. Seriously. My favorite part is how easy it is, and that fact that everything goes into one pot. I love that! I will definitely be making this again.
How much salt and pepper does everyone add? I added too much salt and pepper!
Holy yum! Just made this and all I did differently was half chicken stock, half water just based on the other reviews and my personal preference. Delicious and so easy, my new go-to.
