Orange Rosemary Chicken
Crisp-tender chicken, roasted in the most epic, melt-in-your-mouth orange rosemary glaze that you’ll want to drink!
I make a ton of chicken thigh recipes but I just had to save this one for Fall. And yes, it’s really Fall here in LA! I wore about 80 layers outside today in 64 degree weather. I know. Us Los Angelenos are wimps with this kind of weather.
But this recipe is even more special because of a secret, secret, SECRET ingredient: the ZICO Chilled Orange Juice Blend.
This new chilled coconut water and orange juice blend has 45% fewer calories than regular orange juice and with 5 naturally-occurring electrolytes, it has all of the hydration benefits of 100% natural coconut water. There’s no added sugar, no artificial flavors, no added preservatives – nothing!
And you see this glaze here? It’s made with real maple syrup and fresh rosemary with the ZICO juice goodness so just go ahead and guzzle that down. The juice only has 120 calories.
You can’t lose here.
Orange Rosemary Chicken
Ingredients
- 8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs*
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
For the orange rosemary glaze
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ZICO Chilled Orange Juice Blend*
- ¼ cup chicken stock
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Season chicken with thyme, oregano, salt and pepper, to taste; set aside.
- Melt butter in a large oven-proof skillet over medium high heat. Add chicken, skin-side down, and sear both sides until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side; set aside.
- Add garlic to the skillet, and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in ZICO Chilled Orange Juice Blend, chicken stock, maple syrup, honey and rosemary; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until slightly thickened, about 3-5 minutes. Return chicken to the skillet.
- Place into oven and roast until completely cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, about 25-30 minutes.
- Serve immediately, garnished with parsley, if desired.

I made this for dinner and OMG will definitely make again. The chicken was super moist, I used pineapple mango orange juice and added some coconut water. I also added some Sambal Oelek to Kick it up a notch and flavor was unbelievable not too sweet not too spicy. Can’t wait to make this again, the chicken was addicting.
This was fabulous. I typically tweak recipes but aside from using plain OJ it was great as written. Husband approves.
Easy and Excellent. I had cut up oranges and added coconut water that I used instead of the special oj. Instead of honey and maple syrup, I used two dates. Chicken was so tender it melted in your mouth. I added chopped celery and onion with the garlic before I added the sauce.
I make this over and over and am still not sick of it! I can’t get Zico where I live so I combine ok with coconut juice. I’ve served it with mashed potatoes, noodles, or good bread. Tonight I’m giving sweet potatoes. Happy weekend!
This was an amazing recipe! I’m so thankful I found it. I couldn’t find the ZICO orange blend and stressed over if I could a decent substitute. I ended up just using orange juice and it was STILL delicious. Im not even the nest of cooks, but I was given the Mom AND Boyfriend seal of approval. This one is definitely going down in the books!!
I made this last night. It was delicious!! I cannot find Zico Orange so I combined coconut water with the juice (I experimented with taste and ended up doing 1/2 c coconut water and 1/2 c OJ). Also, I accidentally bought orange-pineapple juice (I just grabbed a bottle from the fresh-squeezed section in the store). That was a happy accident, and the sauce was still to die for! This is a definite do-again!
I want to try this, but am wondering what kind of rice dish would compliment it. Any suggestions?
This was absolutely delicious! Even my 5 year old daughter loved it (of course without the skin), which I was worried because of the condiments but no problem here whatsoever. I didn’t have chicken stock and just omitted it and used fresh squeezed orange juice and it was still amazing! Maybe a little too sweet which is obvious since I omitted the chicken stock but still finger licking’ amazing! Thank you for this recipe!
This was off the wall delicious! My blood orange juice was primo in this! Thanks for sharing
Made this using regular orange juice because that’s what I had. It was absolutely delicious. We just finished up the leftovers and hubs just asked if I was making it again tomorrow. Really a keeper!
We love that you liked it so much, Sue. Thanks for sharing with us.
Gonna try this with fresh blood orange juice! Can’t wait
I can’t see the directions. 🙁

Great Petra!!
When simmering and placing the pot in the oven do you cover with a lid?
There is no lid needed here.
simple, tasty, cheap – my kinda eating. made it for my folks. smash hit. thank you, chungah.
I’m gonna try this recipe tomorrow I have a bag of just picked Oranges I am going to squeeze they are the sweetest oranges I have ever eaten. I don’t have a skillet that I can put directly in the oven but I am resourceful I will figure something out. Can’t wait to try this out thanks for the recipe
This chicken looks so mouthwatering! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Very nice recipe:)
I made this type of chicken and my son love it also. Keep sharing new recipe. I love to cook for may husband and son and they are foody.
I love chicken, will try this recipe soon. Thanks 🙂
Note! I substituted with orange juice. However, the orange juice already has sugar in it. Mine came out WAY too sweet. So please decrease the sweetness you are adding if you will be subbing with orange juice. I tried to fix it by adding a bunch more chicken stock. It turned out with too much liquid of course, but the taste was ok. This would go well with something to make it spicy like hot chili oil. I will have to make this again but with less honey or find the orange coconut water the recipe calls for.
I am making this recipe TODAY (1/16/18) and I could NOT find the Zico orange juice blend ANYWHERE! I did purchase Zico coconut water, and some 100% OJ. I’m going to mix the two, half and half to see how it comes out. I’m excited about putting it all together 😉
Was wondering if I could use fresh squeezed oranges instead of orange juice ?
Yes, absolutely.
