Is anyone else super ready for Easter? Or is it just me? Because Christmas ham was all the way back in, well, Christmas, which was about 4 months ago. So we are way overdue for a holiday ham. A ham beautifully slathered in my favorite saucy, sticky, finger-licking orange glaze.

  • Plan for 0.5 lb of ham per person. For about 16 guests, we recommend using a 6 – 8 lb ham. Anything larger than an 8 lb ham may not fit in an 8-qt slow cooker.
  • Bone-in ham will have more flavor. The bone will help retain moisture and distribute heat more evenly, yielding more flavorful, tender, juicy ham. Bone-in ham will take longer to cook through than boneless ham.
  • Use an instant-read thermometer for the most accurate results. The internal temperature should reach 140°F.
  • Mix it up. Swap out the orange juice for pineapple juice.
  • Let your ham rest. Once your ham is out of the oven, let it rest for at least 15 minutes prior to serving, allowing the juices to redistribute – this will allow for maximum flavor and juiciness.

  • Reheat in the oven. Leftover ham can be rubbery when reheated. For best results with leftovers, reheat in the oven at 300°F, covered in aluminum foil until warmed through.

To baste or not to baste

It is not entirely necessary to baste hourly but doing so will ensure that the ham will not dry out, evenly distributing the juices throughout the cooking process and yielding the juiciest, most flavorful ham every time. Can’t baste hourly? Flip the ham halfway through cooking, and then once more one hour prior to serving.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup orange marmalade
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • 8 pound bone-in, spiral-cut ham
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 15 whole cloves

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together orange marmalade, Dijon, orange juice and orange zest; set aside.
  • Place ham into an 8-qt slow cooker. Sprinkle with brown sugar, rubbing in thoroughly on all sides. Place whole cloves throughout the ham.
  • Pour orange marmalade mixture over ham.
  • Cover and cook on low heat for 4-5 hours, basting every hour, reaching an internal temperature of 140 degrees F. Let rest 15 minutes.
  • Serve warm.
