What is white sangria?

Also known as sangria blanca, white sangria is a lighter twist on traditional red sangria featuring white wine, liqueur, fresh seasonal fruits and sparkling wine (or club soda).

Key Ingredients in raspberry peach white sangria

White wine

Choose a crisp, dry, fruity wine such as sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio.

Liquer

Peach schnapps will add rich, juicy, sweet peach flavors without changing the color of the sangria (like brandy).

Fruits

Use a blend of fruits to complement the crisp, light flavors of the white wine, adding in citrus, stone fruits, tropical fruits, apples, and/or berries.

Fizz

For a refreshing fizz, top with sparkling white wine (such as prosecco), or club soda just before serving.

Garnish

Elevate the sangria and add a simple garnish (ex. mint sprig) to each glass.

How to make raspberry peach sangria

  1. Combine. Combine the white wine, peach schnapps, peaches, and raspberries in a large pitcher.
  2. Let chill. Let the sangria mixture sit in the fridge for 2-4 hours, ideally overnight but no longer than 48 hours.
  3. Add fizz. Pour the mixture into glasses with ice, topped with sparkling white wine or club soda, garnishing with mint.

Variations and substitutions to white sangria

Fruits

Add different fruits based on seasonality and availability.

  • Citrus: oranges, lemons or limes, removing the rinds after 24 hours to prevent the sangria from turning bitter
  • Stone fruits: peaches, nectarines or plums
  • Tropical: pineapple or mango
  • Apples: firm apples such as granny smith or honeycrisp
  • Berries: strawberries, raspberries or blackberries, adding just before serving

Sweeteners

This is not required but can be added for those who prefer a sweeter profile.

  • Simple syrup or cane sugar
  • Agave or honey

Fizz

Add a light refreshing fizz to the sangria, always adding right before serving.

  • Prosecco or cava for an extra boozy, bubbly finish
  • Club soda or sparkling water to dilute the sweetness
  • Lemon-lime soda or ginger ale for a sweet finish

Raspberry Peach Sangria: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best wine to use?

Use a crisp, dry, fruity wine that you do not mind sipping on. Sauvignon blanc and pinot grigio are both excellent options.

Do I need to use expensive wine?

Not at all! Avoid overly expensive bottles of wine.

How long should the sangria sit?

Sangria is best when it sits in the fridge for at least 2 to 4 hours, ideally overnight. But avoid letting it sit for longer than 48 hours or the fruit will become mushy.

Can I make this non-alcoholic?

Yes! Swap out the white wine for white grape juice or non-alcoholic wine, and replace the peach schnapps with peach nectar or non-alcoholic peach syrup.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle dry white wine
  • ¼ cup peach schnapps
  • 3 peaches, sliced
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 (750mL) bottle sparkling white wine
  • 8 sprigs mint

Instructions

  • In a large pitcher, stir in white wine, peach schnapps, peaches and raspberries.
  • Let chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, about 12-24 hours.
  • Serve over ice with sparkling white wine, garnished with mint, if desired.

Notes

  • Pick the right wine. The wine does not have to be anything fancy or overpriced, just something you don’t mind sipping on. Keep to inexpensive white wines such as pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc.
  • Make ahead of time. Sangria tastes better the longer it sits. Let the sangria sit in the fridge for at least 2 to 4 hours, but preferably overnight (about 12-24 hours). This will allow for everything to come together for maximum flavor infusion.
  • Add bubbles just before serving. Top the sangria off with sparkling white wine (or club soda) right before serving to prevent the bubbles from going flat.
  • Keep it cold. To keep the sangria from being watered down with ice cubes, use frozen peach slices or raspberries instead.
