These ham and swiss sliders are technically classified as an appetizer. You know, for all those big crowds and for general entertaining. It’s easy to make, serves 12, and is a crowd favorite. It’s a no-brainer.
With super fluffy Hawaiian rolls baked until perfection where the cheese has melted into all that ooey gooey goodness along with the buttery-Dijon insides. So so good.
And because these are sliders, they’re quite small and wonderfully bite-sized so they tend to disappear very quickly. So be sure to keep count, it’ll go by fast!
tips and tricks for success
- Use Hawaiian rolls. Hawaiian rolls are perfect for sliders – sweet, fluffy, melt in your mouth dinner rolls. Not to mention, they are perfectly bite-sized to feed a big gathering and large crowds.
- Use your favorite cheese. The recipe lists Swiss but havarti or gouda are also great options.
- Double the recipe. The sliders can easily be doubled or tripled, using a separate baking dish for each.
- Make ahead of time. This is a great recipe to assemble ahead of time and placed in the fridge (up to 4 hours).
- Cover with foil. If the tops of the dinner rolls are browning too fast, tent with aluminum foil as needed.
- Mix it up. Swap the ham for turkey or roast beef, add bacon or pickled jalapeno slices, or use everything bagel seasoning blend for the poppy seeds.

Do you know if we can cook this ahead and freeze it for afternoon snacks throughout the week?
Any other cheese suggestions? (I don’t care for swiss)
Thanks!
Literally any other cheese would work.
Great lunch for a chilly winter day.
I almost didn’t look at this one because, hey, it’s a sandwich. I was so wrong and I am also never going to prejudge a simple recipe again!!! I think my husband loves you, lol!!!
Delicious!!! Worked out great for the Superbowl. Everyone was going crazy!!!
sounds good but question is does the spread go on top of upper roll or on inside of upper roll?
Inside of upper half of roll. The tops are brushed with melted butter later.
