Garlic Butter Shrimp

An amazing flavor combination of garlicky, buttery goodness – so elegant and easy to make in 20 min or less!
Garlic and butter. The two greatest pleasures in life. The two ingredients I could probably live off of for the rest of my life. And when you combine these two in a glorious shrimp skillet, well, it’s nothing short of perfection.
Now for those of you on a diet or for those getting ready for bikini season – which is something I should really be doing – this is just one of those dishes to make on your “cheat day” because every last, succulent, juicy bite of this is completely worth it. And it comes together in less then 20 min.
So diet or not, this needs to be made. And devoured. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll make this 3 times in one week with all the crusty bread to sop up every single drop of heavenly buttery goodness.
TOOLS FOR THIS RECIPE
CAN I USE FROZEN SHRIMP?
I recommend thawing frozen shrimp overnight, transferring it from the freezer to the fridge the day before. For a quick thaw, you can run them under cold water until completely thawed, about 5-10 minutes. Pat them dry as thoroughly as possible to remove any excess moisture (so they can brown nicely and evenly).
Garlic Butter Shrimp
Ingredients
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 1 ½ pounds medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ cup chicken stock
- 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
Instructions
- Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Add shrimp, salt and pepper, to taste. Cook, stirring occasionally, until pink, about 2-3 minutes; set aside.
- Stir in garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Stir in chicken stock and lemon juice. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until reduced by half, about 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in remaining 6 tablespoons butter, 1 tablespoon at a time, until melted and smooth.
- Stir in shrimp and gently toss to combine.
- Serve immediately, garnished with parsley leaves, if desired.

Outstanding!! Easy. Quick and delicious. Instead of Chicken Broth, use the shells to make a quick and easy Shrimp Broth.
Step 1 – add the shrimp, and then in Step 6 – stir in the shrimp. I assume the shrimp comes out of the pan prior to Step 6 as more than a few minutes total cooking would be too much?
Thanks!
This was great. I did make two modifications. I added lemon zest to the chicken stock and reserved the lemon juice to add at the end of the preparation. Really good.
Always a hit with family and or company when I make it and service it with jasmine rice and asparagus!
Always a hit with family and or company when I make it and service it with jasmine rice and asparagus!
I have been making this for years and my husband loves it!!! Best recipe so far ❤️
I was cleaning out the freezer and came across a bag of frozen shrimp that was soon to expire. So, I thought I’d try this recipe.
Since the bag was only 12oz I halved everything. It ended up being tasty, but, a little on the middle side flavor-wise. I would gave liked more garlic flavor. The sauce was creamy. I added some sugar snap peas to between steps 4 & 5 to give the dish more color (and to use up some that I had on-hand). Next time I’d use the full amount of the other ingredients even if I only have 12oz of shrimp.
I’d definitely make this again.
Love your simple and delicious recipe. This is my go-to recipe!
Can I make this ahead for a cold appetizer
I have tried several recipes from this site and every one of them has been delicious!
Thanks so much for sharing them.
I did this before and it came out great. Can’t remember if I added more garlic then. Gonna make it for lunch today and will double the garlic ’cause I love garlic shrimps.
This was great, simple. Don’t change anything.
OH YES‼️
I’m a small business owner so I just added my website but just let me say this.
The lemon juice gave it the right amount of flavor, I used minced garlic Bcuz I didn’t that have any garlic cloves but it came out perfect, I ate mine over rice.
I’m going to go to the grocery store tmrw & try it again with some pasta noodles.
Thanks
I just came across this recipe. I think it would be great with spaghetti. Did you try it with spaghetti?
Delicious recipe, and so simple! Serve it on top of rice to make it more of a meal.
It tastes great!
I’ve made this twice, and it’s so good. I added some Tony Charchere’s, and it was as good as anything in a restaurant
For me, this is the perfect garlic butter shrimp recipe I try. Thank you for sharing.
The shrimp were less oily and the garlic flavour seemed to pop more. It was a big hit at out family event
Made this and enjoyed it ALL BY MYSELF. It was terrific. I wish though, that when people put all these wonderful recipes on the internet, they would also give the recipe for 1 or 2 people. It is hard to guesstimate how much of certain spices to put in for 1 or 2. Don’t say to cut everything in half because that doesn’t always work. Thanks for the great recipe.
I measure with my heart, especially when it comes to garlic! If your baking, exact measurements are necessary, but not when cooking add/subtract based on what you enjoy, taste while cooking makes a huge difference, hth
I made this tonight and it was a total hit! So easy! Everyone agreed it was the best shrimp we’ve had!
Thank you for such an outstanding recipe! I used 2lbs of shrimp and adjusted the amount of rest of the ingredients slightly (since it was a half pound more than called for). I served it with linguine alfredo, garlic bread, and steamed asparagus. My family couldn’t stop telling me how delicious everything was! Will be making this often!
Just made this to go with fried rice! So good I love all your recipes.
Wow this was so yummy! Both my husband and I were amazed at how delicious the sauce tasted, especially with the minimum amount of ingredients. The tartness of the lemon really balances the fat in the butter. Yum, definitely will make this recipe again in the future.
Really simple recipe . It was quick to make and tasted delicious. I did cut down on the additional butter though
I made this for the second time last night after my teenage daughter requested it. After dinner, she asked if we had more shrimp. I told her I’d buy some more this weekend. My kids love it and this is now my favorite shrimp recipe! So quick and easy to make.
Thank you. I could even print it out!
Love shrimps and an awesome dish. I also substituted white wine for chicken broth and added a pinch of red pepper flakes.
I WILL be making this again!
Added chilli, more butter and made it in a wok. UNREAL.
Eaten with a small portion of rice, mostly prawns and sauceeeee.
The first thing my husband said after he finished he plate? “ That was friggin delicious!” Glad I tried it. Felt odd not to put any wine in it, but clearly it was not needed!
Just fixed this for a quick lunch, I server it over spaghetti. It was Delicious!!!! Thanks so much!!! It is now my, go-to way to fix shrimp. Loved it!!!
I am going to try it ,I only have the shimp
Easy peasy and oh! So good!
My absolute favorite!!!!!! We have this quite often because we both love it!
Best shrimp I’ve ever had!
Will try it for the first time tonight. Question: Has anyone tried adding mushrooms to this recipe? I think adding a few might be a good thing. Can’t wait to try it!
Made this last week and it was so DAMN DELICIOUS I’m making it again tonight. Super simple and quick with Costco pre-cleaned shrimp. I do add a dribble of white wine. ❤
Crazy good butter and garlic shrimp. I used 10-15 count shrimp and tweaked with the addition of some scallion greens. Great dish! Made pasta and roasted tomatoes as a side.
This recipe is #1 in my shrimp recipe collection now. I would normally add white wine instead of chicken stock anyway but last night I added champagne. Any white wine would do but this was exceptional.
I did exactly what the recipe said and it turned out perfect! THE BEST shrimp I have ever made!!! My husband was very happy and asked when were we having it again!
My husband enjoys shrimp! So I wanted to make something different. This recipe was so good, simple but delicious. He loved it and I was so proud of me. Thank you! Damn Delicious
Have made this a few times and it has always turned out perfectly. Very simple and delicious!
How can I view the video? What type of a pan do you use?
Simple ingredients. Easy go to recipes. Soooo delicious that I was licking the plate clean. Added some broccoli to the shrimp sauce and served it over pasta. Definitely keeping this recipe at the top. Thank you!
Cooked this for NYE and it was a hit with the family!! Things I’ve changed up (1) used calamansi in lieu of lemon (2) added cornstarch to thicken the sauce (3) used Italian seasoning
Also added a ton more garlic since we love garlic here! 😀
Made this tonight for Christmas Eve. It was very good. Will make it again.
Hi Nancy, this is tonight’s dinner. I was looking at the comments and saw your familiar last name. I wonder if there is any relation. Our family was from NYC.
do you cut the tails off the shrimp?
I substituted white wine for chicken broth, and added a pinch of red pepper flakes. Was delicious!!
I cooked this it is really delicious I added pasta and red pepper flakes! so delish! My family loves it!!
One word, DELICIOUS! Thank you so much for the recipe
im vegetarian and i substituted the chicken base for a vegetable base and it worked PERFECTLY. i’ve never made anything this delicious. Even added some cajun seasoning and it somehow made it better. tip: chopped almonds on top are the best 🙂
Just YES. I have not been this lemony-garlic happy since my week in Positano, Italy. Fabulously easy as it is delicious. Served with beets and goat cheese and crusty bread to sop up the lemon sunshine. MAKE THIS DISH!
Easy to make and quite dicious
This recipe was damn delicious indeed! So simple but the flavours are amazing.
Thank you, this turned out great!
My fiance said after the first few bites, “Next time we have shrimp, let’s do this again!” It’s always nice to hear the food was delicious when you cook for someone else. 🙂 I’m more of a lemon lover than he is, but he said he loved the lemon flavor.
Followed the recipe almost exactly, but used both white wine and Better Than Bouillon Chicken base, and served it over fettucine.
Y’all if you haven’t tried this, it’s a MUST!!
Normally, I don’t leave reviews but this was worth it. I made the recipe to the T. I did take the advice of another reviewer and made it with penne pasta.. best decision EVER! As they stated the pasta soaked up the juices very nice! I may just make the pasta this way again.
my husband loves shrimp so i made this for him and he absolutely loves this recipe for the first time will make again
OMG I made this for dinner this evening and savored every single bite! We love garlic and this recipe really delivers. The shrimp was very tender. We served it over penne and the pasta soaked up the garlic-lemon reduction very nicely. Absolutely delicious! We will definitely make this over and over again.
This recipe received high marks and a couple of disappointed cooks. Overall, I thought the recipe was good and I will repeat.
A note to inexperienced cooks, keep in mind you need to adjust recipes to fit your flavor profile. Here is some advice for those who may require more flavor:
– the recipe calls for 5 cloves…..she doesn’t state the size. If you are someone who likes a more garlicky flavor (like me), double it. Also, i always recommend adding 2 cloves to any recipe as you don’t know what type of garlic that was used and/or the freshness of your own. Always use fresh garlic. You can use the minced garlic to add more flavor but i wouldn’t recommend. I prefer a garlic paste over minced garlic.
– incorporate some red pepper flakes. If you are like me and don’t care for spicy food, you only need a pinch. I didn’t add it this time but will next time
– quality, quality, quality…..using dried parsley is not going to work or bottled lemon juice,, fresh is best. Cheap chicken stock is not going to do it either and the same for butter. Cheap stock contains more water than actual chicken. You could always sub for pinot grigio
– if you notice in the photo, she kept the shells on the tail but didn’t tell you to do it. Shrimp shells have flavor too. I left mine on which added to the flavor and it keeps the shrimp from shrinking so much.
-last but not least, if you watch the video, she only seasoned on one side…..season on both
Hopefully, these tidbits will help you have a wonderful dinner.
Really?
A great recipe for those on low carb or keto! Delicious and decadent. If only I could sop the butter up with some bread!
Lick the plate goodness! Easy, fast recipe that my husband and kid both loved. Can’t wait to try this again. Thank you!
I used jumbo shrimp mainly because that’s what I had on hand. The Mrs liked it enough that she said I could make it again.
I normally love all Damn Delicious recipies, but I wan’t fan of this one—I’m sorry! Full disclosure–I used regular salted butter since that was all I had on hand. However, my issue isn’t that it was salty…it was actually bland. Not sure waht happened since others who posted reviews loved it. I DID use fresh garlic and fresh lemon juice. Hmmm…
Great recipe! Thanks for sharing! I really wish that we could get these without the narrative and without all the ads though. Cheers!
Hi Garrett! This is a blog, not a recipe page, but if you prefer the latter, there are many sources available online.
As for the ads, they keep our professionally-tested recipes free of charge to our awesome readers like yourself. Thanks so much for stopping by! 🙂
The best shrimp I’ve ever had can I after I cooked it I put it over rice and vegetables on the side and yes a dash of red pepper flakes
I love this recipe! I use less lemon and garlic as I otherwise find them too overpowering. When I first tried it, I didn’t have any chicken stock, however as I had fresh prawns I used their heads and shells to make the stock. Turned out absolutely amazing and I keep making it this way! Thank you for the recipe!
Delicious!! Everyone enjoyed it and asked for more.
Probably one of the very best shrimp dishes I have ever had… Ever!
I didn’t have fresh parsley but dried worked just fine. I also didn’t have capers so I tried jalapeno brine! It was awesome. Will definitely use this recipe again.
I did a search and didn’t find capers mentioned in the ingredients. Were capers removed from the original recipe?
I have made this recipe for a few years now, right off this site, and have never seen capers mentioned.
GARLIC BUTTER SHRIMP recipe is great! I made it according to your recipe and the taste is great! Everyone in the family likes it, it makes me happy. thank you
Delicious!! But not for those who do not enjoy butter and indulgent foods! I’m glad I did not know how easy it is to make garlic butter shrimp until now, but maybe should’ve held off until later in life when I have the excuse of “I’m old, lived a good life and now can enjoy and eat whatever I want!” Will definitely make it again but will wait for another special occasion to treat ourselves.
My family loved it 🙂 What a great recipe – will make it again 🙂
I do not cook, this was easy & damn delicious!
Would love to try this recipe! Can it be made with the shrimp shells still on?
Love it and so simple
Hmmm… I am surprised at the number of positive reviews. I made this step-by-step exactly as described.
I did use mince garlic from a jar, which is as potent and delicious and freshly minced. The jar and “the internet” all say to use 1/2 teaspoon of minced to equal 1 average close of garlic, so I used 2.5 teaspoons.
The garlic was WAY overpowering even to this garlic craver/lover. In addition, the combination of ingredients was simply too simple. Nothing to create depth of flavor (and if there were anything, againn, it would be overpowered by the garlic.
Sorry to leave only a negative review, but this was my experience. If I were to do it again I would (1) cust the garlic in half, (2) cut the butter in half, (3) add a little tapioca starch or corn starch to slightly thicken the liquid, and (4) Add sugar snap peas, perhaps cabbage, and other crispy and relatively neutral veggies.
Hi JB – crushed garlic in a jar isn’t even remotely the same – even when it claims to be. Make it again with fresh garlic and see what you think then.
Follow the exact recipe or don’t rate it. It’s not fair to change the recipe then give it a poor review, in essence you are rating your own recipe and not the author’s!!
‘
Well if you chose to use jarred garlic instead of fresh garlic as recipe stated, its on you that it didn’t work. I would try exactly as written then see what you want to change or riff on. I’m making it for dinner tonight again over some fresh fettuccine, very excited.
There’s a place that has Thursday and sat prawn night specials, they’re always sooo tasty. This recipe hit the spot and reminded me soo much of the ones I like.
Thank you for this recipe. My family loved them
I love it!!! Thank you for this recipe! 🙂 wish i could share how the shrimps looked
My daughter made this recipe and she loved it, I did too. Definitely recommend this recipe
Ok so I never EVER leave a review however, this was AMAZING! I made zero changes and was impressed with the flavor and the taste! Job well done
This was one of the best shrimp recipes I have made ever. How can you go wrong with garlic, butter and shrimp but the addition of the chicken broth and lemon made it superb. A dish I was pretty much licking the plate. This will definitely be one of my go to dishes for a “damn delicious” treat for family and friends!
This recipe was AMAZING! I added some saffron to it and I couldn’t stop licking the sauce!
I made this last week this dish is everything I absolutely love it
Super delicious and easy! I accidentally made it all in one big skillet and it still turned out amazing. As an inexperienced teen chef, I can say, anyone can make this. I also precooked the shrimp with green seasoning (I’m half trini) and added a little bit of ginger powder to add a different flavour. Super awesome, thanks!
this is Damn DELICIOUS so good and tasty
This was indeed damn delicious! I used white wine instead of stock and added the zest of one lemon along with the juice. So, SO good.
This is now my husbands favorite shrimp. He absolutely loved it! It was super easy to make and my goodness, was it delicious! Definitely recommend this recipe.
it was great, i have never made food as good.
I love shrimp, butter & garlic together, so I had to try this recipe. Thank you it was delicious !
I am excited to try this recipe tonight however I’m just modifying it for one person because I’m making it for myself. I’ve decided to serve it with roasted asparagus in the oven with a little bit of salt and olive oil and a Sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
Also, I hope somebody deletes Latreen Johnson’s review because I find it seriously offensive and ignorant.
Great idea to include asparagus.I have made this recipe before and it is so good I have to also agree that comment from the Johnson woman should be deleted
Usually recipes are had to immigrate where I’m from because ingredients. I got all the ingredients with no problems and they came out just as expected!
First time making this. Absolutely amazinggg!!!! I’m so happy to have found this recipe. thank you
All good… I really liked your Garlic Butter Shrimp invention. New York is not good… LA is somewhat better than the rest of SoCal… Is your fiancé Jewish? I hope not, for many reasons.

OMG! I agree! Who says such a thing, especially on a RECIPE website! Geez! That should be censored and removed immediately!
What is wrong with your brain chemistry? Why would you make a comment like that? P.S., I live in NY and the country is watching MY Governor for advise on how to survive this Pandemic. Oh, and great recipe, I love making my shrimp like this and serving it over butter sautéed pasta.
I used this recipe to make shrimp tostadas. It was super delicious!
Delicious and easy. Very rich but ok for an occasional splurge.
On a whim I decided to make this for my girlfriend and she is over the moon about it! Thank you so much for sharing, it is now a staple in our household.
The title is on point! Damn delicious was right!!! Added a little more stock for more gravy. Excellennttttttttt
This meal is absolutely delicious!!! I use less butter than the recipe calls for, and it’s so easy to make!!
YUM!!!! This was absolutely scrumptious! Used Earth Balance butter due to a milk allergy and it turned out wonderful. Probably a little less rich than real butter but still very good,. Served with rice and oven-baked spicy sweet potato rounds. The kids and husband loved it! Thank you.
Tried it today with scallops, so good.
Can I make this with pre-cooked shrimp? Maybe just sauté it a little to warm it up in the butter garlic sauce??
Did you try it with pre-cooked shrimp? I want to make it today, was thinking of making the sauce and then just let the shrimp heat up in the sauce?
Served this with pasta. Added more chicken stock for pasta sauce. Excellent!
Delicious recipe and the saucy isn’t overwhelmingly heavy and just the perfect amount of garlic.
For flavor, I added bone broth that has some fish sauce in it. SOOOOO SOOO GOOD!
Will make again 🙂
Delicious recipe! I doubled the sauce and added pasta at the end. It was sooooo good! Thank you!
Havent’ made the recipe, but looking forward to trying it. I’m thinking of making dinner for the family. I’m looking at doing this garlic butter shrimp with some homemade cheddar biscuits. I would like to add another side; something with some good veggies in it. I was thinking it could be as simple as asparagus or even sweet corn on the cob. Any thoughts or recommendations?
Very tasty shrimp recipe. The whole family loved it!
Threw this together last minute, it was amazing!!
This one of our favorite ways to cook shrimp. I usually use a little less butter because we buy shrimp by the pound, but I keep everything else the same. My husband loves garlic and we always have homemade chicken stock on hand, which adds to the flavor. And I sometimes finish with a little chopped green onion if we have it. Great recipe!
Me and my friend (which we are both 12) made the Garlic butter and shrimp and it turned out soooooo delicious. It was really fun and easy to make. I really love this recipe!
This Garlic Butter Shrimp is very good that my husband utterly said, “this is the best garlic shrimp sauce ive tasted in my entire life”. Thank you, it turned out to be a very fantastic, delicious dinner for the family
Was amazing!!
Ezcellent I made spaghetti and used the shri and sauce delicious thank you so much for a wonderful recipe
It turned out wonderful! My 8 year old son is the major shrimp lover and he ate 2 servings!! I’ll make again!
This is DAMN DELICIOUS
DELICIOUS!!
I love to cook. I’m always looking for new recipes for my menu, which makes me always interested in my work. Today’s my lucky day, GARLIC BUTTER SHRIMP is great, just follow the instructions and everything is easy, I like that. Thanks for your sharing
I loved it!!!! I made it for my sisters and I and they loved it. I loved how the broth and lemons kinda soaked up in the strimp, cause we cooked it longer but it was better that way!!!! 100/10
I was very skeptical when I saw chicken broth for a seafood recipe but had been failing at creating my own garlic butter shrimp so thought I’d give it a shot. Glad I did! I used fresh off the boat gulf shrimp and followed the directions to a T and this turned out amazing. Definitely will make again in the near future.
Damn delicious. It got rave reviews by my family. I made one chang. I used white wine instead of chicken stock.
I have a lot of frozen cooked shrimp in the freezer that I caught on sale; peeled and deveined in 2 lb. bags. Thawing them in cold water and removing the tails only took a few minutes. Then drain and pat dry to remove all water. I cooked the recipe as stated except using only 1/2 lemon. After adding all of the butter, except the last two tablespoons, I added shrimp to the pan, covering with the hot garlic butter, then added the remaining butter, stirred it in and turned off the heat. It came out delicious. Just don’t overcook the cooked shrimp. Heating them through a minute or so is all it takes. Great recipe that I will make often.
Just made this: fantastic, easy, tasty. Served it with vegetables. Used crushed garlic from the bottle. My family loved it. Thank you.
This was awesome! I switched the chicken broth out for white wine and can’t believe how simple and good this was. Thanks for the recipe!
Easy and delicious!! Will be making these again!!
I’ve been looking for perfect recipe of shrimp which is my favorite .. thank you for this ,I found it.. more power and God Bless !
We’re so glad your search came to an end, Melissa! 🙂
I’ve been looking all over the Net for a Red Lobster Garlic Butter Scampi shrimp clone and your recipe is right on. Simple ingredients, quick and easy to make. I substituted the chicken stock with white wine and added a little Old Bay. Not that it needs it but next batch I’ll add a little Parmesan cheese. Got a thumbs up from my Wife and she didn’t even complain when she had to do the dishes. Thanks for an excellent recipe, Dave
but why use chicken stock? when its seafood based dish. so does it come out tasting of shrimp of chicken? its confusing.
I would’ve normally used white wine in this type recipe but was out. Chicken stock is a great neutral base for almost any recipe and worked fine in this one. With all the butter, garlic and lemon you don’t taste the stock. Hope this helps.
Prepared this dish last night and served it with rice.
It was delicious! My husband and I loved it. Loved that it was so quick and easy to prepare. Thank you!
I usually have this dish with pasta, but I haven’t cooked it myself. Thanks so much for sharing the recipe.
Just made this. It looked beautiful, tasted great!!!
This is such a lovely recipe. Your shrimp looks really delicious and so healthy too. Great job.
Pointless setting the shrimp aside. Do step 2 then 1. They came out great. Quick and easy.
Do you think this would still work with Dairy-free butter or do you think it’ll throw if the taste completely? Recipe sounds delicious by the way!
What a great idea! But unfortunately, without having tried this myself, I cannot answer with certainty. But if you get a chance to try it, please let me know how it turns out! 🙂
Great recipe! I love the formula because of its simplicity. Simple materials, easy to process. Thanks for your sharing
I made this for lunch today and it is absolutely delicious!
Simple. Quick. Tasty.
Definitely a crowd pleaser in our house!
Made this recipe for someone else. I don’t even eat shrimp. But after tasting these results, I have changed my mind about shrimp. This recipe is indeed “Damn Delicious!!!”
Could I just use frozen cooked shrimp and cook it for a shorter amount of time?
I do worry that the shrimp will get overcooked but unfortunately, without having tried this myself, I cannot answer with certainty. But if you get a chance to try it, please let me know how it turns out! 🙂
I used thawed, drained and patted dry cooked shrimp. Just heat through only a minute or so covering with all that buttery, garlicky goodness. Mine turned out great. Hope this helps you.
This is one easy recipe for a beginner like me to follow. Yummy! Thanks for sharing. Bob
Garlic butter shrimp sounds totally yum … but too much lemon!!
I added only 1 juice of lemon as the recipe states but now I can’t taste any butter or garlic ☹️
Going to have to try again another day when I buy shrimp again. Some of the family like it as is
Judene, you can always reduce the amount of lemon as needed. 🙂
A great recipe. We made it and devoured it, wished we had more instantly. The base sauce turned out to better than the shrimp. My children begged for more.
Easy and everyone from my husband to my one year old loved it!
Awesome!! It’s better than my fav shrimp scampi and you can also use it as a wing flavor. Thanks for the recipe. It’s delicious!!
The colors look so eye-catching, I will definitely make it for the weekend party, I hope my friends will like it.
Nervous feeling
Thank you for sharing
Awesome Garlic Shrimp dish and very similar to the way I make it. I add a splash of good quality white wine and a few Red Thai Chili peppers for an out of this world experience!! Lastly sprinkle some fresh cut parsley and cilantro (Bc I love both) and lemon juice!!!
Yes there are. They are optional. I just sprinkle less than 1 teaspoon.
Amazing! I love the sweet and savory taste.
Your instructions aren’t accurate. If I were to follow them the shrimp would be overcooked.. And I substituted cilantro for parsley. If you are going to add green might as well have some flavor.
Cooking time is simply an estimation. If you plan to use smaller-sized shrimp, you may need to reduce the cooking time. It’s as simple (and easy) as that. Cilantro is also a great substitute to suit your preferences. Substitutions are the beauty of home cooking to tailor your needs, right? 🙂
This was so delicious! I added red pepper flakes and it added the perfect spice to the dish. I’ll be making this for my hubby soon!
I’ve made this twice now and it’s so delicious and one of my fav dishes of all time. Serve it with bread and you’re good to go. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
This has been my favorite dish for several years… can’t live without it. I remember Chef John saying, “If you don’t add 6 cloves of garlic for a pound of shrimp… it is not garlic shrimp.” I agree. I sometimes add garlic Alfredo sauce, and sometimes linguine. With or without it is to die for.
Very tasty!
Tnk u for the recipe.
Sounds so yummy..
What do you serve it with…can’t only eat shrimp.
Hi Dorothy! My absolute favorite side dish is the garlic parmesan roasted potatoes. But please feel free to check out all of my side dish recipes here.
My son doesn’t like lemon. What should I use as a sub?
You can omit.
Try throwing some ginger in to replace the lemon?
Can I substitute garlic powder for fresh garlic?
Yes, of course.
Oh my my! Amazing!! I cooked this with grilled pork chops and baked potatoe and it was a smash! Everyone had seconds…would highly recommend this recipe
should i use one whole lemon?
Jass, you can use as little or as much as you’d like. It’s up to you!
Yum! Damn delicious for sure. I added just a sprinkle of fish sauce to the broth/lemon juice step. This is going into my regular rotation.
Hi, can I make this creamy by adding heavy cream to the mixture.. Or would the citrus from the lemon cause it to separate ?
Yes, it should be fine!
The sauce was so nice but the shrimp was way to overcooked using this times. Thanks for the recipe though.
Just made that delicious dish and OMG that was off the hook…. I will make it again next week
This reminds me of two of my all time favorite ways to eat shrimp — in a chardonnay buerre blanc or Shrimp De Jonghe.
When I was a little girl, 60+ years ago, my family made frequent trips into Chicago for my dad’s business and to visit family and friends. We often ate at a restaurant that served Shrimp De Jonghe. I ordered the Shrimp De Jonghe often. (There’s a good recipe at Food52 and I like the serving suggestion.) Years later my husband and I ate at The Chestnut Street Grill, also in Chicago, and I had an appetizer of Grilled Shrimp in Chardonnay Buerre Blanc. Had I known how good it was, I would have ordered two of them and called it my main dish. If chardonnay was substituted for the chicken broth in this recipe, it would be similar. Just saying…
I always have a pound or two of shrimp in my freezer. They thaw and cook quickly and there are so many things I can make with them (truly the “chicken of the sea”).
This sounds delicious and I can’t wait to make it. It might even show up yet this holiday season. I think it would be good with pasta or even just a simple salad and plenty of bread.
We will be eating this tomorrow for dinner. Thanks!
Serves 4? Hahahahaha!
What can I serve this with? Angel hair pasta under and what sides? I need an idea for a complete meal. Thank you!
My absolute favorite side dish is the garlic parmesan roasted potatoes. But please feel free to check out all of my side dish recipes here.
Try white rice (add 1 teaspoon chicken beyond bullion) to the water
Delicious recipe. I subbed the parsley for cilantro (because it’s what I had on hand). I mixed the shrimp mixture with penne pasta. Amazing!!
That is too much fat for someone with diabetes and high blood pressure:-(
You are so very WRONG! Check your facts. Ask your doctor. Google it. Something! Butter is good for you.
Hey! I’ve gone pescetarian recently and this looks like a perfect dish! Was wondering if veg. broth would be a good substitute for the chicken broth?
Yes, absolutely!
I made this for dinner . I added heavy cream and served over yellow rice with bread from Panera……DELICIOUS!!!
Hey! Love LOVE this recipe. I make it all the time! I actually make quite a few of your recipes all the time. I figured it was time to comment and let you know that I use your recipes in my meal plans that I create for clients. However I NEVER pass them off as my own. I always include the link from your site on the printed out recipe. Just wanted you to know! Love your recipes! YOU ROCK!
Do you ever have any trouble with the sauce being too thin? I notice you don’t use any flour or thickeners, but it looks like the reduced sauce still clings to your shrimp just fine, looks great!
I actually don’t mind the sauce being a bit on the thin side but you can certainly use flour or thickeners to suit your tastes!
We loved this recipee, however, my goal is to stock up on freezer meals. Is this a meal that can be frozen? Would I make it first and then put it in a bag in the freezer. Let it thaw and then just warm it up the night we are eating it? We have NO time for any cooking during the week so I make all my meals ahead of time. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I cannot answer this with certainty as I have never tried freezing this myself. Please use your best judgment for freezing and reheating.
Oh my I just made them. I used everything but parsley. Bomb.com
Does this heat up well? I want to use it as a meal prep.
Yes, it does!
Looks amazing! I used to be grossed out by shrimp but now I could eat it all day. Gotta try this recipe tonight.
could I replace the chicken stock with something
Vegetable stock.
Can I use olive oil instead of butter ?
Yes, you can.
Can I use beef stock instead of chicken stock? Do you think it will still come out good?
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
(: got it.. thank you. Will let you know how it comes out. the receip looks delicious otherwise.
I will also be using frozen cooked shrimp…is it ok?
I recommend using thawed uncooked shrimp to avoid overcooking the shrimp.
Can I subsitutte chiken stock with anything else?
Vegetable stock! 🙂
Hey! I’d love to make this but I only have a bag of frozen shrimp. Do you think that would work??
Is it uncooked frozen shrimp?
Very good recipe thank you. Only add in where shallot in with the garlic and 1/2 cup white wine with the stock. Excellent.
Absolutely FAN-TA-STIC. I came back from work, I didn’t want to cook something too complicated, and believe me… for the effort put into this, the outcome is amazing.
Really nice smooth flavor, I added some left over garlic white rice to the skillet after removing the shrimps. They soaked up all the flavors and it came out amazing.
A must try if you are a shrimp lover. 10/10 !
Can you use lemon juice from a bottle? Or will it affect the taste?
Yes, you can use lemon juice from a bottle, but as always, I recommend using fresh!
Made this tonight and OMG so yummy. Added 2 ladels of pasta water and served with roasted asparagus.
You can substitute white wine for chicken stock
That just looks insanely delicious. I love a good shrimp dish!
pictures are great again–they say eat—eat now–only thing is I don’t have the makings in the house,,,so I will just have to droooool at the pictures until the stores open—thanks for another great looking recipe…..
The only thing I would add to this yummy recipe is to use grass fed butter. It is so good can’t wait to make this again!!!
I’m salivating as I print this recipe. It’s morning but I want this dish now. Can’t wait to make it. I know how good it will be because most of your recipes are at the top of my menu rotation. Thank you!
I like the fact that you give the nutrition information, but as far as the calories go, you say how many calories per serving, but not the serving size. Any way that can be added to your damn delicious recipe’s?
This was so delicious. Made it for dinner tonight. Thank you so much for this post. I will certainly be making it again.
I don’t have unsalted butter in the house, do you think I can use salted? Thanks.
Yes.
I’m so mad and sad. I tried it for dinner last night and it came out really salty because of the chicken broth :/ had to just reinvent but it does not look anything like the picture. So dissapointed in myself.
I’m sorry that this recipe did not turn out the way you had imagined. I only post recipes that have been successfully tested in my own kitchen, and as you can see from the comments here, many of these readers have had great outcomes in the final dish as well.
But with a little bit more information, we can troubleshoot what went wrong to have a successful turnaround next time. Did you follow the recipe exactly as written without any substitutions?
I’m really lost. The picture on the Pinterest says “Garlic Chicken and Brown Sugar” . Something is wrong or it’s me?
Anyway this Shrimp looks good. Thanks
I’m not too sure! I am not able to replicate the issue on my end. Are you still seeing the same pin?
I made this tonight and it was delicious! It’s very similar to a shrimp scampi that I make, but I don’t have any white wine, so I was happy to see that this only needed lemon juice and chicken stock. The only thing I changed was that I added diced onions and sautéed them in the beginning. I served it over linguine with Italian parsley and Parmesan. Yum!!
Made this tonight. It was delicious. Thanks!
Hi Chungah,
I made this last night for a girl’s night dinner with my daughter. It was simple and sooo good. Thanks!
Hi.looks great.thanks for sharing.I’m going to try it tonite.plz let me know if anyone tried it with fish.thanks
Thanks for this awesome recipe! We loved it with shrimp; I’m going to try it with white fish. Thanks again!
I’ve never told my boy friend that I didn’t know how to cook (My little secret). He came home last night from the market with raw shrimps and placed it on the kitchen counter and said “babe let’s have shrimps tonight”. OK Hun, I said almost immediately. I quickly searched on the Internet for a recipe and did as instructed. Luckily he kept inside of the room watching television so he didn’t see my readings. I was nervous at 1st, but once I completed the meal the shrimps looked yummy and the kitchen smelled like heaven. I paired the shrimps with cheesy grits. I watched in joy as my boyfriend devoured the food on his plate and once he was finished I received 3 compliments of “That ish was really good!” Followed with “can you make more in the morning?”. Thank you for this simple and quick recipe. It’s most definitely a great life saver. : D
I used fresh basil instead of parsley, it came out fantástico! Thanks
This was delicious!!! So easy and quick. Had shrimp in freezer which i thawed in 5 min in water, had dinner on the table in less than half hour. I only used 2 T of butter for the sauce, that was plenty. I served it with tri color quinoa and broccoli. Very good. Can’t wait to make it again.
My family and I love it.
Actually this is perfect for bikini season…fat doesn’t make you fat…sugar and grains do!
I made this last night and my husband & I loved it. It was so easy and flavorful. Only thing I did different was to add a small amount of pepper flakes. It is definitely a keeper. Thank you.
This is a fabulous recipe….served over lemon pepper fettuccine. Easy enough to cut in half and serve for two!
Yummy!! The kids love it.
Do you use raw or already cooked shrimp?
Raw.
I’ve used thie recipe a few times now – heavier on the lemon as is suggested as an option. All I can say is that it gets a “wow!” reaction every time! Thanks for the recipe muchly.
Thank you . Simple and looks delish
I want to give this recipe a try but what can I substitute for chicken stock?
Here is a great resource discussing possible substitutes – hope that helps!
It looks so delicious I really want to try it out but what if I have only access to frozen ones? How does the recipe change? Do I defrost them first? Thanks.
Yes, it is best to defrost.
I attempted to make this all was coming out well untill i put the lemon juice i put to much and it ruined the dish do u have any pointers how i could have dimmed the taste of lemon juice ?
You can try reducing it for next time?
Heavenly good!
The family loved these. Really great.
made this for supper last night and it was really good! i had leftover rice from another supper so I used that. I used much more rice than what the recipe called for. (I have two big eaters with a teenage son and my husband, so I have to make things stretch.) I also used coconut oil instead of butter. I actually like using coconut oil with shrimp recipes, it gives the shrimp a different, coconutty taste. Very good recipe and I’ll be making this often! Thank you!

My husband and I love shrimp. This garlic shirmp and my homemade fettuccine alfredo is definitely was winning combination!
Just tried this recipe & absolutely loved it! Was so simple and quick to make. Took some into work the next day & had people begging for more. Thank you!!!!
OMG this was the best ready in 10 minutes. in my belly in 2. PERFECT
Making this for dinner tonight. Can hardly wait for dinner time!!!!!
It truly is damn delicious. Its easy to follow directions, makes it so simple, a six -year old could do it. Thank you soooooo much
This was a hit! Thank you for the recipe. I seasoned the shrimp a couple hours ahead of time with a little salt, black pepper and garlic because I find shrimp can be bland otherwise. So I didn’t add any salt or black pepper when sautéing. I also used a little less butter. This is now my go to recipe .
I made this tonight but I substituted olive oil for the butter since we have a dairy allergy in our family, the flavor was great but I am guessing that velvety mouth feel comes from the butter.. Still good but probably not as good.. Put it over spaghetti squash and added red pepper flakes..
This looks amazing and I’m going to make it for my daughter’s upcoming birthday – she wants some kind of shrimp! For those of us doing low-carb, this isn’t even cheating!
I just made this for dinner…. Aaaahhhhhmazing!!! We’ll be adding this more regularly to our dinner rotation!
Thank you so much for posting this recipe. I made this for dinner tonight and it was absolutely delicious! I followed the recipe exactly but added pasta to the finished dish and WOW, just wow. Had to resist licking the bowl.
I think this is relatively healthy. Butter is good for you. Butter is not fattening. Unless you gobble this whole dish down yourself. That’s a different story.
I think I could hahah
I REALLY want to make this today but I have no chicken stock, broth, bullion or anything 🙁
Is there a substitute?
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot advise an appropriate substitute that will not alter the overall taste/texture of the dish. Using a substitution may also result in a mediocre outcome.
Great recipe! I serve it on a bed of very fluffy mashed potato & it gets rave reviews every time! Thanks!
I’m going to make this next week. But what would you pair it with?
You can really pair this with anything – potatoes, vegetables, etc. It’s up to you!
I added a half cup cooked Smart Taste rotini pasta to each (4) serving and it was delicious and filling! 🙂
Thanks for the recipe, Chungah, turned out great! Next time I think I will add less lemon and butter and more garlic to suit my taste. Love these simple, easily customizable recipes!
I made this for dinner last night and served with spaghetti squash!!! A side of steamed broccoli for some greens. Delish! Poured some of the extra butter garlic sauce over the “spaghetti”, and it was amazing..
How did you cook the spaghetti squash ?
Here is a step-by-step tutorial: https://damndelicious.net/2016/04/26/how-to-cook-spaghetti-squash/.
Renae:. THANKS for the spaghetti squash heads-up. We’re low-carb here and for some reason I’d forgotten spaghetti squash. Big THANK YOU to Chungah for both the shrimp and squash recipes. I can imagine a couple of future experiments with the shrimp, subbing white wine for chicken broth, Italian seasoning, a little parmesan for a different twist. Blessings to you both.
Thank you! It was delicious! I added bread crumbs and cheese! It can be made with any size shrimp! Thank you the easy steps! Happy New Year!
Thanks for the recipe! Do you recommend serving with cocktail sauce?
It’s really up to you, although honestly, a dipping sauce is not really needed here!
this recipe was absolutely fabulous! I think this will be my permanent recipe! I will recommend this to everyone!
So i will be making this for dinner tomorrow night in the instructions you said to add the shrimp in but in the end of the instructions you said stir in shrimp so I’m not sure if the shrimp should be put in at the beginning with the first 2 tablespoons of butter or at the end when all of the ingredients are mixed and warm together could you please clarify that for me? Id greately appreciate it
Yes, that’s completely right. If you read the first step, it also states, “set aside”. That way, you can create the garlic butter mixture without overcooking the shrimp! Hope that helps.
I made this tonight with cheesy grits!! It was fantastic!!
I want to make the recipe called garlic butter shrimpmmmbut would like to know if this can be made in advance and kept warm in oven for 2 hours on very low,, or kept warm in the crock pot,,,,, instead of serving immediately,,,,
thank for ur answer
Unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot advise if this is appropriate or not. Please use your best judgement to convert this recipe to utilize a slow cooker.
very good. I just made this for dinner and my family is inlove…
I was skeptical while I was making this because it didn’t seen too fragrant, but it was sooo good!! I’ll never feel like I need to go out to a restaurant for shrimp again. Who knew it was so easy to make such yummy shrimp?? Thank you! 🙂
I made this tonight only substituting Italian seasoning for the parsley cause I had none. It was absolutely amazing! Saving! My go to recipe! Thank you for this!
Great find, I’ll be making this tonight! Might even get crazy and add a little red pepper!
This was fabulous. I’ve been doing the low carb thing so this is OK carb wise and what a treat. I have been making garlic shrimp for years and this is the best.
Just made this and it was so beyond delicius!/
not sure if you know this site has your pics & recipe?

Thank you for letting me know.
Thank you for this recipe. I made this for my In-laws and they had seconds and thirds!! It was quick, easy, and delicious. And best of all, it made me look like a rock star chef! Thank you!!
Very delicious! It would be good if you let the chicken broth with butter sauce chunkier. My husband loved it. Thanks for posting.
Was looking for a shrimp dish for dinner last night, and came across this recipe so decided to make it. Words from m husband “this one is a keeper” thanks for sharing
Holy cow! I love shrimp but I’ve never been lucky when it comes to cooking them….that was until this recipe. So easy and delicious! Served over some pasta and my husband was in food heaven.
Good job
It looks delicious. What would you serve with this?
You can serve this over a bed of pasta for an entree or even stick some fancy toothpicks to serve as an appetizer.
I think it has a great taste and so deliscious and very healthy food too! Thanks for this recipe
I would like mine with grits please!!
Me too!! 🙂
Looks delicious! I am going to make this for dinner this evening. After following the recipe directions, there should still be some sauce left in the pan. I may try it over some sort of pasta, place the shrimp on top, and pour the balance of the sauce over the pasta. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the recipe and the gorgeous photo! Larry
How did the shrimp turn out with the pasta?
I can’t believe how easy and elegant this recipe looks. I adore shrimp. Definitely going to make this over the weekend!
You’re so right! Butter and garlic are incredible together… they equal perfection. Add garlic and it’s even more perfection! Looks super tasty!
This looks amazkng! I am soooo making it today! On the ingredient list you said 2 tbs fresh cilantro but in the instructions you said to garnish with fresh parsley. Could you specify which one we should use?
Jazmin, you can use parsley as a garnish.
You can never go wrong with garlic shrimp, love these!
Whenever I see recipes with shrimp, they look super delicious. Until I remember that I don’t like shrimp. Its unfortunate.
What a shame. Maybe you had bad/old shrimp or badly cooked/seasoned. Or you might be allergic??
Garlic and butter were made for shrimp. Seriously! 😉
Great recipe, Chung-Ah. I just want to reach through the screen and grab a few of those shrimp. Or maybe all of them.
Oh goodness, this recipe is just pure yum! I have such a weakness for shrimp. I just cooked 2 lbs last night into a ceviche and my husband and I pounded on it like a pack of wolves…or sharks…not sure what predators eat shrimp. Sea horses?
So pretty and there is absolutely nothing better than the combination of shrimp, butter and garlic!
I could probably eat that entire pan of shrimp! I love this recipe!
Gorgeous photo!
This looks like the perfect tapas-style dish, so delicious – damn delicious and nothing short of it 😉 I hope you’re having a lovely weekend 🙂 x
Yum! This is my kind of dish!
Any shrimp lover would love these! Gorgeous pics as always!
