Blueberry Lemonade
Made with an easy blueberry simple syrup, this lemonade is so refreshing, sweet and tangy. It’s the perfect way to cool down on a hot day!
I’ve been blessed to live in California for the last 14 years, leaving me to eat blueberries all year long. But when I saw the huge buy-one-get-one-free blueberry sale at my local grocery store, I stocked up on 6 pounds of blueberries. I may have been overjoyed and way too ambitious thinking that I could eat all of it.
So when life gives you blueberries, well, you make blueberry lemonade.
It’s definitely an unconventional lemonade but after making strawberry lemonade and raspberry peach lemonade, I just wanted to try something really different.
And boy, was I in for a treat. With a simple homemade blueberry syrup, this drink could not get any easier. It’s wonderfully fruity and sweet from the plump juicy blueberries with just enough of a tart kick. And it’s really the perfect way to cool down on a hot day. Plus, if you’re anything like me, well, you’ll sneak in some vodka for an adult-style lemonade!
Blueberry Lemonade
Ingredients
- ½ cup Imperial Sugar Extra Fine Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup blueberries
- ¾ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
Instructions
- To make the blueberry simple syrup, combine sugar and 1 cup water in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Stir in blueberries and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until blueberries have broken down, about 3-4 minutes.
- Strain blueberry mixture through a cheesecloth or fine sieve; let cool.
- In a large pitcher, whisk together blueberry simple syrup, lemon juice and 5 cups water. Place in the refrigerator until chilled.
- Serve over ice and blueberries, if desired.

If I wanted to let’s say make this more of an adult beverage, and add some blueberry vodka how would you recommend I go amongst this.
Raychell, I recommend using unflavored vodka – perhaps a splash or two in each glass prior to serving. The blueberry vodka can potentially take away the flavors of the lemonade here but as always, please use your best judgment.
How much you have added water for the pictures? When I first did this drink it was very very dark blue and certainly not at all see through like yours. Drink itself is great and I’m now making the second batch but I wish the pictures would reflect the real deal and not something else.
Mikko, the images here are an exact creation of the recipe as written – there’s no hidden gimmicks here.
I made it as posted except 1 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water. Strained the berries, even pressed them thru the strainer and it is exactly like the pic. Gorgeous, refreshing and I will be making this all summer!
Mikko mine came out dark also. Not clear like the picture. Still tastes delicious!
Absolutely delicious! I made this for a bridal shower what a hit!
Does this lemonade come out to be a bright pink color? It looks that way in the photos to me. Soo pretty.
It’s more of a purple actually.
My kids and I just made this together for an after dinner treat in January, and I am here to tell you that frozen blueberries will work great, too! It was delicious, like drinking a warm Summer’s day. Thanks for the recipe!
I have to make this blueberry lemonade every week since it was posted on your site in May. For new addiction treatment, should I move to California when the blueberry season is over?
Have a great fourth of July!
